Note 4 n910f 5.1.1 root? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, so I've searched around and can't find a clear answer so I've created this post just to get some clear advice!
I've just updated officially to my carrier (h3g UK) 5.1.1 through Odin.
I know I can install twrp but just wondering how I can get root so that I can get full access to my extsd card and also install adaway to get rid of adds.
I'd quite like to stay on my carrier stock from (at least until simplrom comes out)
Can anyone point me in the right direction???

No root yet on stock 5.1.1
I have root by flashing TWRP and BobCat custom rom whitch is rooted if you want root for now,you can use that rom .
When root on stock rom 5.1.1 is available then flash stock rom and root it. BobCat is battery friendly

[Q] Global rom for AT&T SGH-I337 ?

Hi there,
I am planning on getting a Red AT&T S4 and getting it unlocked for use with a Canadian Carrier. I would like to know if it will be possible to flash the phone with the stock rom, that is,one that still has touchwiz but no AT&T bloatware. Does such a Rom even exist and can I find it online ? Also, will I get OTA updates once I flash it or will I need to keep re-flashing to get the latest version ?
Thank you for the help.
Goldeneye has exactly what you want:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313469
Touchwiz ROM based on the latest international firmware, debloated, with lots of option addons. AND AWESOME dev support in the above thread.
Once you flash the ROM, you will not be able to receive OTA updates unless you go back to stock. The dev will quickly release updates to the ROM and you can flash the update and reap the benefits!
Sounds good, thanks for the fast reply ! Will flashing the updates afterward remove my data ? Anyway,I guess I will move over to this particular rom thread for more info about that....
One more thing,if I stay with att rom I will be able to get OTA updates ? Or will I loose this ability if I root and go outside the US ?
Thanks,

After you read those, ROMs are located in the "Development" and "Original development" sub forums. But read these before you do anything with them...

Why would you buy an AT&T S4 (bootloader locked) and then use it on a Canadian carrier? Why not just get a SGH-i337M (Canadian) with an unlocked bootloader? If you get the AT&T S4 on MF3 firmware you will only be able to Root it. Custom recovery is not available for that firmware.
Make sure you read all of the information in the threads I linked you to above. The information you need for all of your questions is located in those threads. Good luck.
Really helpful, thanks ! So once I install say goldeneye rom,I'll be able to dirty flash updates without loosing anything right ?

That depends on how significant the updates are. The dev will usually let us know if we can dirty flash.
There's also a semi dirty flash where you wipe everything, flash the rom cleanly, then do an advanced NANDROID restore of only the /data partition.
Once in awhile you might have to redo all your settings but you can use Titanium Backup to help out with the app settings. Titanium can also restore your calls logs/SMS/MMS. Of course all your contacts should be stored on Google's cloud so those come back automatically.

[Q] How to root a Note 4 910F in the UK?

Hi guys apologies for a question that there is masses of info on already. Experienced iPhone user here who jailbroke everything I had (and even then it was rubbish compared to stock Android hence the move!!). The trouble is it's too much info and is confusing my little head (new to Android) especially as many of my searches go to old threads so I don't know if things have changed.
I have a 910F in the UK and it's on EE (Everything Everywhere = a network in the UK like Sprint or Verizon or whatever in the USA). I want to root it but can't find roots for the UK EE version as everyone seems to talk about US versions only.
1) Is there a root specific to this provider (EE) or doesn't it matter? For info my "baseband version" is: N910FXXU1BOC4 but the "build number" is LRX22C.N910FXXU1BOC5 and when I search the chainfire lists I don't see this I only see somethign ending in B4, is this a problem?
2) Is there a safe way of rooting now without tripping knox?
3) I probably don't want to do a custom ROM as I want to hold onto my apps but just get rid of bloat apps one by one (very happy with Go launcher so far) but I may in the future. Will this affect which method I should use?
4) I've read n00b info about what a bootloader is and I'm still confused - I imagine I will have to unlock this as part of any rooting process?
5) Will rooting also unlock it so I can use with any carrier?
This forum has been fantastic to me so far, thank you. I hope this question isn't too annoying.
http://galaxynote4root.com/galaxy-note-4-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-4/
But im sure it tricker knox . But i dont use it .
I have a 910F also and my baseband is alså C4 and builenumber is C5 . In denmark
I use this root file http://download.chainfire.eu/571/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root-trltetmo-trltetmo-smn910t.zip
Sendt fra min Note 4
Tak!
But it says 910T so I'm a little nervous to use it, even though it worked for you..
Sorry my bad
Here is the rigth one. http://download.chainfire.eu/568/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root-trlte-trltexx-smn910f.zip
That is the one i used. Its my fail i copy the wrong link
Sendt fra min Note 4
Ah ok cheers.
That's cool then. I wonder why it doesn't mention the build number then? And I've been doing more reading and am trying to work out at the moment whether I need to change the recovery (TWRP) as well or just need to use chainfire on its own..... ? It's quite confusing.
I have stock recovery . I will change til twrp wen i will play whit roms when you have stock recovery you can still get updates from samsung kies .
When you root ota updates dosent work
Sendt fra min Note 4
Thanks again buddy.
May be a silly question but are you saying you can do chainfire without changing the recovery and then add the custom recovery bit later?
And can you only add custom ROMs if you change the recovery bit too? (eg with TWRP CWM)
You can use chainfire on stock recovery of you want to play whit custom rom then you need a custom recovery i hold to stock recovery until i want to play whit custom rom i have played a lot whit custom rom
I dont know if custom rom suports Spen that i dont have checked yet
Its my 2. Week on note 4 same day i got the phone i rooted it
Sendt fra min Note 4
Thanks once again mate.
Last questions to clarify: can I root first without custom recovery and do things like remove Samsung bloatware?
THEN
apply CWM or TWRP to the phone some time later if I want to add custom ROM?
Or can you only remove bloatware by changing the recovery too and havign a ROM?
And will the phone wipe and lose all data if change the recovery so best to do it all in one go?
Thanks
Yes you can ..
Just root . Keep stock recovery. Then get root uinstaller or titanium backup from google play and freeze the bloatware
Remember always only freeze. Then if you freeze somthing wrong then you just unfreeze again .
Then later on if you want to play whit custom rom then you just install twrp og cwm recovery and a new rom
Sendt fra min Note 4
Hi everybody, before everything i ask sorry for my English...
I have the same phone in the UK EE N910F TRLTE its unlocked for every careers...i all ready root it since the first day i both it but i never fund a custom rom for this tipe of phone can same one help to get on for TRLTE and not TRLTEXX.

[Q] Koodo S4 upgrade questions

Hello Gurus,
I have the Canadian S4 (I337MVLUFNI2) running stock 4.4.2. I've just downloaded the Lollipop upgrade from Koodo but did not install.
I'm looking to root and flash CM12 or other ROMs, but I'd like to try Lollipop first.
Few questions about the upgrade:
-Will I be able to root the device after upgrading to Lollipop?
-If I don't like Lolipop, can I revert to my 4.2.2 using my Kies back up ?
-If I want to be able to evert, do you recommend that I root my 4.4.2 and take a nandroid back up first ?
(Battery life is important for me. If the upgrade turns out to be disastrous as some online reports indicates, I'd like to be able to go back to 4.2.2).
-What is the recommended way to root and install recovery for my device ?
Thanks to all..
Do what I did.
Backup all files to PC
Flash lollipop firmware through Odin which you can download from sammobile
Reboot into recovery and wipe data and cache(this will erase everything on phone)
Boot up phone and setup accounts
Then once finished flash this through odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293800
Flash twrp through odin
Boot up and copy files back to phone
Reboot into recovery and flash cm12 or whatever you want
So far, there is not a root method for Lollipop on the S4, nor does Xposed work for it yet (lots of issues with the way Samsung implemented ART to Touchwiz).
There is a keep root method in the S4 general Forum, which is just a way to keep root throughout the install of lollipop if you are already rooted on the current ROM you're upgrading from. I'm on my phone though so apologies for not linking it.
I'm not certain if a kies backup will restore after the upgrade, but even though the keep root method removes safestrap functionality, there is a way to get it working temporarily, which may provide some hope.
Seeing as you're using a Canadian model I don't think you need safestrap, and seeing as I do (AT&T model), I can't tell you how other recoveries will handle the situation.

Ah, didn't realize the Canadian model had a root method yet. I'm in america on AT&T and our bootloaders are locked.

Hey Zehlek, I'm coming from CM11 (details below). I'm trying to move to CM12 because CM11 is doing strange things with my GPS. Which version would you recommend that is stable for the SGH-I337M? I read the CM12 dev page, but I'm a little nervous about the whole "editing scripts" part of the process.
Current Software -
SGH-I337M
CWM v6.0.5.1
CM v11-20141112-snapshot-m12-jflte

How exactly would I go about updating a rooted SM-N910W8 from 5.1.1 to marshmallow?

Just noticed that Bell released the 6.0.1 update for my phone (at least I think Bell is BMC, since sammobile stopped displaying the carrier names I'm not sure anymore http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N910W8/BMC/). How would I go about doing that? I'm assuming there's more to this update than software, they usually include stuff like radio/modem/bootloader firmware updates that I can't get by just using some custom MM build. So I have to install their update to get that. But I'm running 5.1.1, using some custom debloated version of COK3.
I've got lots of questions that I couldn't answer with my google-fu. Is the 6.0.1 build rootable? Does xposed work on it? Can I use Chainfire's Flashfire to update it? https://flashfire.chainfire.eu/ Or do I have to completely downgrade to stock to apply the OTA update? Chainfire's Flashfire says it won't work with a locked bootloader, but that only applies to Verizon Note 4's, right, not Bell? I'm pretty sure my bootloader is unlocked or I wouldn't have a rooted phone with a custom rom and recovery. And it says "things get tricky with a modified /system partition like if you're running xposed", which I am, so what does that mean for me?
Thanks for any help! I know a lot of these questions can be vaguely answered by google if I look hard enough, but I like to be absolutely sure of all the steps for my exact phone before I go do anything that could possibly hard-brick it.

cant figure out how to root a g900v running 4.4.2 and ank7. any help?

Like the title says, I have a g900v running 4.4.2 with ank7 and it seems like that's a combo nobody else has. I had it rooted before but I believe I accidentally updated with an OTA at one point and lost root. Does anyone know how to regain root from here, or guide me to which updates I should install to get to a rootable firmware? Thanks in advance!
also, I do like 4.4.2 a little more than 5.0. My gf has 5.0 and I'm not too fond of it, but if 5.0 or 6.0 are a lot better speed-wise then I'd be ok with upgrading. I'm just not a big fan on how it looks.
Does anyone have any tips or knowledge on what I need to do to get root back?
Have you tried to root using towelroot by geohot?
you can install it just by googling towelroot and then installing it
once installed you just click make it rain and you should get root
Try this web page if it doesn't work at first
http://www.naldotech.com/how-to-fix-towelroot-phone-isnt-supported-problem/
otherwise flash using odin to a different KitKat firmware that is supported by towelroot and then root
