How can i root my Samsung S5? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i have resolved the problem i have where i was stuck in Download mode.
Must i root my phone to install Ambasadii rom V7 , How can install without bricking my phone?
My phone is Samsung Smg900f .

I'm not an expert here but I have an S5 and when I first tried to root it I had difficulties, even though I thought I was doing everything right. It turned out that I had not enabled 'Developer' mode. In there is a setting to allow writing to the system. Enable that and try again.
Worth a try until a more qualified person can help you out.
Good luck

Exynos bug.. Good or bad?

Hi everyone. I know everyone is trying to get a fix on this exynos bug.. Me too. But it is also because of this bug that I was able to help root, flash cwm thru mobile Odin and follow up with custom rom for now 1x sgn2 and 4x sgs3 to custom rom DLL firmware. All this done out door on the go without any pc or computer... So it wasn't that bad a bug after all.:good:

I would like to see what would you write if your phone would be bricked and only samsung service center could repair........
I would rather be safe so I installed the new updates and a patched kernel (RedPill 1.01)

Any custom ROM is different. Its good test them. I have the same phone yours but maybe the same ROM dont works for me and for u yes. Be relaxed coz no is problem of ur phone. Enjoy testing them :highfive:

[Q] Can't get custom rom to load after install, keeps loading stock image

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I am new to this custom ROM stuff and am trying my best to follow all the guides, but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. Android version 4.4.2 and Build version KOT49H.I337UCUFNC1, so I've been following the NC1 guides. I was able to successfully root using towelroot and verified that it worked using a root checker app. I then installed SafeStrap, backed up my stock image, and put two different custom ROMs on my external microSD card, Graviton (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372742) and PurifieD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454205). After creating another ROM slot, and performing a factory wipe using SafeStrap, I installed Graviton and it went through and told me to reboot. However, when the phone loaded again, it looked just like the stock ROM again. So I wiped everything again and did the same with PurifieD. It gave me all the installation options of what bloatware I wanna get rid of, etc and also seemed to install successfully. But once again, when I rebooted after installation, it looked just like stock again.
Am i doing something wrong? I really want to use these nice looking ROMs!!
And if I can get that to work, it seems like I have no 4G connection, even though WiFi works. I'm assuming http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50965837 is the guide I will want to be looking at to make it work?
Thanks for the help
I assume they are based on GNG8 AND GNG1 and you are running FNC1.
The rom based on stockrom is important too.
I suppose you downloaded Purified HD's v3.3? Because it is based on FNC1.
Try roms made specifically for your device to avoid problems and bricking. Experimenting without knowledge is also not supported here. Plus people are not responsible here for bricked devices or any weird thing that happens.
Towelroot worked for your phone as it is a universal app, made for S5 by the great @geohot, but works for many devices.
EDIT : Well I totally missed the i337 part. Thank you @Lennyz1988.

You need to read more carefully.
You have a I337 model. NOT an I9505 or an I9500. You can't flash other roms to your device. Stick to your model only the AT&T. Try what DeepankarS tells you. From what I remember your stock rom needs to be the same as the rom you are trying to flash.
Thanks for the assistance fellas. And yeah, knowing that I was looking in the wrong threads would have been a better start and I'm lucky I didn't permanently damage my phone. Thanks again for the heads up.

Anytime. But you can always port roms to your phone. There are a lot many ways to port a rom for your phone
*A bit of perfect copy paste skills required for that

im outdated, would appreciate a little help

Hey, first off thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to read this.
So I've had the D802 for about 2 years, I installed a modified 4.4.2 stock ROM and Ive had no reason to keep myself updated cos the phone worked fine. Im currently working my way through all the resources in the general forum but specific pointers would be great!
However, I've now run into a WiFi issue that I cant fix and Im considering using this as an opportunity to upgrade to kitkat/lollipop (recommendations would be helpful)
I also have the issue where, when I put the phone into download mode, the progress bar stays at 0%, so I cant flash KDZ via the normal method.
What Im looking for are noob friendly resources or advice on how to proceed safely.
Are there alternatives to that flashing method?
Am I required to unroot?
Whats all this about kernels (to the best of my knowledge I never messed with a kernel)
Alternatively, a simple WiFi fix wouldnt be the worst thing. It doesnt connect to a network and frequently switches itself on and off.
Thank you!
As the phone is rooted, flash a recovery(i recommend TWRP). Make a backup of current ROM and flash any stable CM12/13 ROM
You might want to check the connection for the WiFi antenna to make sure that they are secure.

Samsung softbrick fix

Hi. This is a general question... Tomorrow I'm buying a J5 Prime SM-G570m, and it's going to be my first samsung device (and 3rd android device). From my experience, I know that Samsung always modifies a lot of their stock ROM, and many things that work in most android devices, don't work in a samsung one.
I've searched about the J5 prime and there is not much development or guides about it (I hope that changes, because I love to root and modify and install xposed), but in case I soft brick my J5 trying to root it, is there some easy way to reflash and get to stock ROM again and unbrick it?
I know this is probably a noob question, but I know almost nothing about Samsung rooting and modding and just wan't to be sure that anything that is not a hard brick can be easily fixed in these devices too. Thanks for any answers
Samsung Smart Switch, see how to flash/restore Stock Rom here

You can flash stock rom with Odin and root the device. Xposed only available on Android marshmallow. If you want to buy J5 prime and expect for custom rom support, you make a mistake. There's no active development for J5 prime.

I would love to see CROM support for the prime, but I can live with root and xposed only

Cool, I don't have root yet, I'm waiting a little more time before voiding my warranty but I've read some users install wanam version of Xposed. The normal version doesn't work with Samsung?

Never tried the normal one but wanam version works. And systemless xposed via magisk manager also works 100% if you have telegram you may message me http://t.me/dikketesla
