my phone: SM N900 india lollipop 5.0 out of the box
yesterday i rooted with chainfire's cf-auto-root first with odin
it went well, phone was rooted but i could not install a recovery
then i tried twrp.tar with odin
phone was rooted with twrp recovery v2.8.7.0
but when i tried to wipe data for new rom, it struck on formatting cache using make_ext4fs function
and it could not mount one or 2 things (system, cache...) and twrp restarted
now i could not even restore the backup i made before wiping
when i try to reboot , it says no OS installed
what to do guys, please help as i am staring the twrp screen right now
Flash a stock ROM via Odin and then proceed installing your ROM by flashing recovery...

Hello,
Try to install an official ROM, for your phone, with Odin then root again and install Custom recovery. I advice you to download latest build of recovery.

PS. i am having TWRP v2.8.7.0 which is latest i guess
You have tried to install a new rom with Odin?

i am still downloading firmware from sammobile
its very very slow, can someone tell a workaround?
Yes, downloading from sammobile.com is very slow unless you are a paid member.
If you want to run a custom ROM, there are ROMs that can work on your phone and would be faster to download. There are even ROMs that are based on Samsung's TouchWiz.
thanks guys for ur support
i was able to revive my note 3 again
but i did the whole rooting process again by auto-cf-root and then twrp latest through odin and i am still struck on the same screen like the last time in twrp recovery
it is still not able to mount system
can anyone has a solution?

Flash supersu via TWRP instead of using cf-root.

but to gain root access, i assume auto cf root is the first step
correct me if i am wrong
Flashing supersu from TWRP will get you root access.
i am writing the messages twrp shows if they matter
updating partition details
E: unable to mount /cache
..done
E: resources (font)- (fixed) failed to load
E: unable to mount /cache
kernel doesnot have support for reading SELinux contexts
E: unable to mount /cache
E: unable to mount /cache
MTP enabled
E: unable to mount /cache
E: unable to wipe dalvik
updating partition details
E: unable to mount /cache
..done
E: unable to mount /cache comes multiple times later too
Steps: install again the rom, next step it is to install custom recovery with odin(The Rom and recovery must be in .tar format) and the last step, search for supersu in format zip and download in to sd card. Boot you phone in to recovery and install supersu. Now you will have an rooted phone.

Maybe cf-auto-root is changing something in the phone to cause the error in twrp?
well i was third time lucky
repeated the same process 2 times:
rooted with cf-autoroot with odin, flashed twrp with odin, still freezes
3rd time:
flashed official rom
did a factory reset by inbuilt recovery
installed cf-autoroot, flashed twrp by odin
this time i was able to install aurora rom despite the error message in mounting cache
so running aurora rom now...
will try to flash supersu through recovery as recommended by @bogdan109
but will take a good night sleep first

Check if your phone it is rooted or not (install an program from play store: root checker). I don't think it is necessary to install super from recovery, now when you used cf-autoroot, but maybe i'm wrong.
Flashing supersu from recovery means not having to use any other root tool.
thank u guys for ur replies
i dont know the reason of the problem but it seems almost sorted out now
what i did was i flashed older version of twrp twrp-2.8.6.0 and used suemax kernel
since then it seems okay though on running recovery it still tells one problem:
E: resources (font)- (fixed) failed to load
but everything else has been resolved for now
thank u again
Well.... did you use the right twrp? These are not all the same ones:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Canada (hltecan)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 International Exynos (ha3g)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 International Qualcomm (hlte)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo (hlltexx)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Sprint (hltespr)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 T-Mobile (hltetmo)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 US Cellular (hlteusc)
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Verizon (hltevzw)

Sup,
got a S4 from a mate to root. Already rooted my own S3, so I know what to do.
I flashed the newest CF Auto Root from chainfire via Odin
flashed the newest CWM via Odin too
then went into the recovery
Wiped everything (data, factory reset, dalvik and even system)
But as soon as I want to install a custom rom, it tells me "installation aborted".
Tried different roms, but none has worked.
Also tried Philz Touch 6 and TWRP but still getting the same problem.
Why does the recovery say that there's no root access if I want to shut down the device?
"Root access is missing. Root device now?"
This appears everytime I shut down from recovery. Could this be the problem?
I appreciate every kind of help
E3: uh.. After a few hours I finally got the solution.
- I installed this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824) (Stockrom)
- Flashed root again
- Flashed CWM again
- and finally I am able to install a custom rom !
I was going to say reflash root. But I see you did it yourself. Nice thinking

I have searched and can not seem to find a solution
Here is where I am at:
Odin back to stock 4.4.2
Root with Towel Root
Install SuperSU, Update, and Disable KNOX
Install busy box
Install SafeStrap
Install Recovery
Boot into SafeStrap Recovery
Create Backup, Create a Partition and active Rom Slot 1
Wipe System, Cache, Data
Install Zip via External Card
Install goes perfect every time
Reboot
Phone gets stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy S5" screen
I can get into the stock recovery (not safestrap) and Download Mode
I then Odin back to stock and try again
I have tried 4 times and 4 different Roms. Has to be something I am missing
would using Flashfire possibly fix this?
EDIT:
Current set up
Android 4.4.2
Kernal 3.4.0
Build KOT49H.G900VRU1ANCG
update: Same problem with flashfire....
update 2: Could have been bad/wrong kernel. Going to odin to 5.0 and see what happens

I think the problem may be you are trying to use the ROM slot. I thought I read that you are supposed to flash ROMs in the stock slot with safestrap.
Thank you for the help
I fixed it but not really sure how.
I THINK it was messed up because I had the wrong Kernel
Here is what I did:
Flashed latest Lollipop with Odin (on parrells on a Mac, worked really well)
Followed the KingRoot Guide to root phone
After a few attempts got root back
Installed the Rom suggested in the the Kingroot Thread
Found some script on XDA to debloat
I really wanted to try the toxic rom but going to play it safe for now...
ROM slot 1 is your problem, as it isn't supported on our devices.
Flash to stock slot only. Ignore the ROM slots.
If you did indeed have the wrong kernel flashed, you would never successfully boot.
Sometimes you also have to wipe cache and dalvik cache again after installing a ROM.

try fix premissions or lastest twrp 3.0.0.2 or then older 2.8.7.0 twrp. Make sure its not european twrp
Ok guys, im going through youtube, google, XDA on fixing this thing (stupid xposed...)
I have Samsung galaxy note 3 (sm-n9005) on android 5.0 that i rooted using odin method and installed TWRP (did not made recovery image)
i did that few days ago...but today (idk why) i wanted to install xposed to see what it is...
So i downloaded these:
xposed-v86-sdk21-arm.zip
xposed-v86-sdk21-arm.zip.asc
installed through TWRP and i restarted and it was stuck on samsung logo.
so i deleted davlink, cache rebooted nothing...i wited entire phone using TWRP except system partition, still nothing, than i downloaded:
xposed-uninstaller-20150831-x86.zip
xposed-uninstaller-20150831-x86.zip.asc
and it said in red letters:
updater process ended with error: 255
error installing zip file '/sdcard/xposed
uninstaller/xposed-uninstaller -20150831-x86.zip'
I dont know what else to do. Can someone help me please?
Download and flash a stock rom on Odin, factory wipe/reset, reboot.
So here is my problem i can't flash any custom rom i tried twrp cwm philz edition and the problem is the same i get stuck at* patching system image unconditionally at the very beginning of the blue line i tried with resurrection remix, slimrom, and other ROMs and when trying MIUI 8 i get an error couldn't mount system rw
Itried with adb sideload get stucked at 45%.
I e2fsck -y /dev/block/mmcblk0p23 wich is my system partition and fixed so many error but the problem stay the same ... i can flash a recovery or a kernel with no problem with TWRP the problem as i think when dealing with the system partition .. so im stuck with a stock rom that i flashed with odin btw who works great .. so is it my system partition messed up or the gpt table isnt right or is there a way to flash custom rom using odin
It could actually be the permissions. Other problem could be the recovery.
hi i know it's been a while since, but have you found a solution? I am getting exactly the same problem and tried everything possible. at the stage ready to sell it off ebay and upgrade if this doesn't work.
I had same problem with galaxy note 3 sprint variant and twrp 2.8.7.0 helped
If you are not getting twrp 2.8.7.0 try two or three lower versions
Don't use the latest twrp it won't work
1. Try to put custom rom to external storage microSD card or USB otg
2. If not helped 1. solution try older version TWRP 2.5.xx
This 2 solution help for me sometimes
You need to flash the latest TWRP.

Thanks, and I was on the latest already at the time of posting. Will try the two suggestions with getting the older versions of TWRP 2.8.7.0. Interestingly enough the CWM has done the same thing, as well as TWRP's sideload.
Will post back later.
tried all the possible versions of twrp, sideload, cwm, different roms, fixing permissions and formatting the partitions...no luck, still gets stuck at 45%. I guess it is time to give up and get myself a new xmas present.
