I updated my Google Play Services and I recently started getting a message in Google Fit that Activity Detection is off. I click on it and it acts like it will take me somewhere and it never does. Same when I try and view the Google Maps Time line. When I go into location settings Location Services is missing.
Any ideas?
Can I reinstall Location Services somehow?
Can I downgrade back to whatever version of Google Play Services that came on the phone?
I got it fixed renaming the com.google.android.gms-8.1.15_(2250156-240)-8115240-minAPI21.apk to GmsCore.apk and replacing the one in /system/priv-app/GmsCore/GmsCore.apk
And of course changing the permissions to match the one that was I there. I then rebooted and then it let me install the com.google.android.gms-8.1.15_(2250156-240)-8115240-minAPI21.apk
That restored my Google Location Services!
Make sure to install Google Play Service apk's that are meant for your device!

i know there has been a couple of threads concerning this problem. but i have already read all of the threads that i could find. nothing worked.
i live in china and the chinese version of note 3 doesnt have play store installed. so i had to download the apk from the internet. and installed on the phone. it flashes white and closes immediately. also google play services that i installed from the internet yesterday, failed to open. it flashes black for a while and then (unfortunately google play services has stopped). BTW, my weather widget shows a different city. a city which is a little far from where i live. i tried to let gps and map access my location to refresh my home city, but no success.
here are the solutions that i found online and have already tried with no success.
1.Set your correct date and time for the current location. Try this it will work out, and also try to inactivate your play store account and reactivate. (i failed to change my home city in weather widget. the date and time are correct though)
2-Find " Hideman VPN " and Install . you don't need Play Store you can download this from SAMSUNG Store. And Its Free.
Now Open Hideman VPN And Click Connect.
Onces Its Connected Open Internet Explorer And Check Your IP . It Will Be Changed
Now Open Google Play Store .. It Should work
3-clear cache and data, then reboot.
4-Try clearing the data and cache for " Google Services Framework" also (my phone has no google framerowk. no any google service)
5- Your downloads are probably disabled ...go into your settings then application manager scroll over to all. go all the way to bottom you should see downloads click enable. thats what i did works good now.
............none of the above has worked..................
is there anything else i could do? my doubt is that samsung china has disabled something about google or there is a built in app that keeps my home city incorrect. im not sure. i hope to get it to work. andriod is useless without google play.
thanks in advance
Isn't your government that won't alow google services in China?

This is what happens when you get apps from a pirate store. Why did you download it from there in the first place? It already comes installed on your device.
I second Heisenberg's concern about getting apps from a pirate store, and doing system apps is just silly.
You need to fully reset your device and start again. Either use factory reset or flash a factory image via fastboot. Heisenberg has a full guide to all guides. Do that and stop using pirate sites!
hi
I have been using my Note 4 N910 h for more than one year and everything was perfect despite this annoying google service battery draining issue that i believe many are facing as well ..... it drains cellphone's battery as hell no matter what you do .
i installed Greenify and activated experimental features to be able to greenify system application including this bloody one , but i wasn't able to find it among them ..... why
any idea how to find and greenify it ? is there any other way to prevent it from draining the battery
thanks in advance
This is total guesswork, but I think "Greenifying" Google Play Services might F up your phone.
That's why it's not included on the list.
You could "App Settings" (Xposed app) and stop Google Play Services from starting up when your phone starts, but just have Nandroid backup ready.
If you look at the battery usage settings for Google Play Services, it shows the following as included packages:
Google Services Framework, Google Backup Transport, Google Account Manager and Google Play Services.
Some of those can be selected in Greenify. I'm not sure would happen if you selected them though.
Again more guesswork, are you syncing (lots of) data frequently via your Google account?
i.e. contacts, calendar, apps etc
This might fall under Google Backup Transport or Google Account Manager, which in turn falls under Google Play Services.
I denied all the stupid permissions it needed. There's an xposed module called Xprivacy, you can deny many permissions using that like keep awake and stuff. Helps, but don't mess with it that much. I don't. The guy up me is making a good point. Have a nandroid backup.
I'm running OCT-M 6.0.1. Every time google apps try to access location services, I get play services crashing. This does not happen with non-google apps such as waze or GPS Test.
I've tried reinstalling play services to the latest, reinstalled google maps, and cleared data for services and framework (backed up beforehand of course).
Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm unsure where to find a crash log.
Just in case anyone's curious, I managed to figure it out myself. Disabling and re-enabling play services through privacy guard (OCT-M is based on CM13) fixed it. GPS now works and I no longer get any play service crashes.
I tried selecting download apps from google play, but it doesn't work and says that google play servies has stopped.
even adding a new google account in settings doesn't do anything.
Any help on this?
