I know Google mentioned the 6P can charge quickly, but I don't recall hearing anything saying "QuickCharge 2.0 compatible". If it is compatible, which accessories are recommended? Based on a quick Amazon search, I've found:
Car Charger
Would it be possible to pair this with a USB A to USB C cable? I need to purchase all new adapters as I was relying on Qi charging pads. I need many new adapters, and just need to know which ones to purchase. Thanks!
I was wondering the same. The charger is 5v/3A rather than variable voltage

Yea... I have the same question.. I have a couple quick charge 2.0s.. can I get a standard usb to usb-c adapter like https://store.google.com/product/usb_type_c_to_usb_standard_a_plug_cable and plug it into quickcharge and will i get quickcharge capabilities?
I have the same question, i think we have to wait some guys to receive the sample and confirm if the Nexus 6P support qualcomm quick charge 2.0
for the car charger, here is my recommend.
You don't need to get another type c cable, just plug and charge.
Didn't Qualcomm announce quick charge 3.0 too?

coming with the 820, I believe
This phone supports USB 3.1 and USB Type-C so therefore it supports the new usb power delivery spec which is capable of up to 100w. If I were to bet money, I would say google is referring to this as "quick charging", not to be confused with Qualcom's implemntation.

Doesn't have 3.1. Still 2.0

Google has stated it does not support QuickCharge 2.0 but just the faster charging that USB C allows for.

Not all USB type c devicess have to support 3.1 and power delivery. The 6p supports neither.

You are correct, some tech sites were originally posted that this phone supported USB3. Its now been confirmed that its only USB 2.

You say that the 6P doesn't support "power delivery". How is Google providing 15W to the phone via it's Type-C charger? From what I understand, the pins for Vbus in the Type-C cable/plug is the only way to provide that power? As you can see, I'm a little confused.

Maybe they used their magic to find a better way to do it
**Delete**
Now I'm totally confused... so this doesn't support the same quick charging that's in the current line of micro USB phones, such as the Note 5 and S6? And it doesn't take advantage of the newer USB type C technology that allows for faster charging? So how the heck does it provide a "quick charge" for a quick boost in battery?
Here is a great article explaining Quick Charge and why the 2015 Nexus devices (possibly) do not have it; link

I think the wikipedia page may have been missing something important in what I quoted from them. That "Power Delivery 2.0" doesn't have to be supported for a Type-C cable. Based on the wattage of the new chargers though it does look like Power Delivery 2.0 is being used, just not the full 100 watts that Power Delivery 2.0 does support, but it's definitely over the 7.5 watt limit of usb 3.0.
What's important to note is that Power Delivery 2.0 can be supported on Type C cables with usb 2.0.

Helpful article, just not news I wanted to read.
I have 3 QC 2.0 adapters, and 1 QC 2.0 car charger. Luckily, I did just purchase this http://amzn.com/B0146FK3G0 for $12 using a coupon code. This should charge the Nexus 6P at 15W since it's a native USB-C charger, with an additional QC 2.0 port. Just need to find another wall adapter now.

The specs say that the Type-C port only does 5V/2.4A (12W) so you're not going to get fast charging off of that on your 6P (which needs 15W). You need to find something that does 5V/3A over Type-C.
Hey everyone, The OPT charger is around 10W (5A x 2V) while the Nexus 6P charger is 25W. Both devices have the same Snapdragon 810 chipset and they both use USB Type-C. Is it possible to get the Quick Charge functionality from the 6P (0 to 100% in around 90 minutes) to the OnePlus 2?
Thanks in advance
No, op2 doesn't have quickcharge built in. You might break your battery.
Energy don't work that way.
Think of your opt charge circuit as if it is a water hose, battery is a little container, charger is the big container.
It doesn't matter how big is the charger container the hose will take the same time to fill the small container.

Couldn't have said it better myself
Quick charge is a built in feature which is not included in op2. So it's not possible to charge it that way.
I believe the snapdragon 810 supports quick charge, however, the OP2 designers chose not to implement it, probably due to the increase in cost associated with upgraded current handling for some parts, but that's a guess on my part.
There's usually no problem with using a larger capacity charger with your phone because they're almost always self regulating. However, it will probably not accelerate charging unless the device supports it.
No it doesn't support it.
My OP2 charges in 1hr50mins to full.. I am satisfied with it.

The nexus devices don't quick charge, they however charge quickly (called fast charging) with the new type C connection via a 15w 5v/3a charger. It's a non proprietary open standard and not a Qualcomm certified type of deal. The question is legit, you could be able to get a quicker charge with the nexus charger.

Yes I know that they don't use Qualcomm Quick Charge but some fast charging that's possible because of USB Type C. So that's why I asked if the OnePlus 2 could also use the ''Fast Charging'' capability from the 6P

Well maybe I should grab a 6P charger and test it
Quick charge/fast charge whatever you want to call it won't work, opt circuit/controller is designed for 1A current, it won't demand any more than that.
You can have a custom kernel that tells the controller to not "shutdown" with more than 1A but is your risk and probably won't speed up the charging process by much.
Opt charger is 2A and should be enough to test a kennel tweak, again changing just the charger won't work.

I wonder if it is possible to some how forcefully enable quick charging somehow.

How is OPT circuit designed for 1A?? then why would they make a 2A charger, that makes no sense.
Fast charging on nexus devices is a capability of usb-c, not snapdragon quickcharge.
So I think we need to reevaluate this..
Somebody needs to test with a 3A nexus charger and run ampere.
Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk
I might be wrong in something.
I used ampere to "measure" the current always tops at 1090mA but with screen on, which also drains juice from charger.
Any way you need a custom kernel like boeffla to change the mA to charge I remember it tops at 2200mA
But a 3A charger like nexus will only supply what the device is demanding (2200 mA)
Fast charging on nexus it's a feature of charger and charger circuit, remember to have a puppies a ***** (female dog) needs to mate with a dog not a cat. You might force different species they could mate but won't breed.
You need any race of dog to have puppies.
The same you need any brand of 5V/3A charger for a nexus and you will have fast charge.
Opt don't have fast charge won't harm to try but don't buy the charger just to test borrow someone's

Opt supports 5v 2amp charging on screen off.
Quick charge (Qualcomm quick charge®) is achieved raising voltage and not amperage (up to 20 volts, in qc3) and should be both hardware-supported and software-enabled since is the phone that asks the charger for a specific power level (volts-amps couple).
The real question is: is qc hardware supported on opt, and, if yes, could it be software enabled in some way in a custom kernel or so?

I found an article that says that you need Qualcomm PMI8994 Power Management IC and SMB1351 (as well as snap 810 SoC) to get quick charge working... I can find the first in many teardown but I can't find the second, any idea? Maybe it has been replaced by another component or is it missing at all?

Depends on which class quick charger. It can go up to 3 amps I believe.
Either one will only charge up to 1.5A, considering they both use chargers with a USB Type-A port (the traditional rectangular port). This phone doesn't support Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0.
If you want the faster 3A charging mode, you'll need a charger with a USB Type-C connector and a cable with USB Type-C connectors on both ends.
While the marketing says this is "fast-charging" It's actually part of the USB Type-C specifications.

Thanks for your explanation. I thought pairing a 3A USB-A charger with a USB-A-to-C cable will still work, but in reality it's limited to 1.5A which baffled me a lot. Now I know the reason... Goddamn Google, there's no way I could buy a second original charger set in my country!

Yeah its kind of lame. Supposedly its where all android devices are headed, but not very helpful for us 6p owners right now. I got a good car charger USB C cable that charges it as quick as the stock charger through amazon for only $13(prime member). I also use a USB 3.0 A to USB 3.1 C cable on a charger that supports quick charge and it goes up to 1700 amps which is almost two thirds of stock.
QC 2.0 hardware is present on the Nexus 6P
So does anyone, then, know why QuickCharge 2.0 isn't supported, despite that the hardware necessary for supporting it IS available?
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+6P+Teardown/51660?revisionid=HEAD
If you head down to Step 14, you can see that this device does, in fact, support the SMB1351 that is the power management piece necessary for QC 2.0.
Do we just assume that it's disabled in the firmware of the device?

First of all, our phone does not support USB 3.0 speedwise, also USB 3.0 cables are backwards compatible with the 2.0 interface. So yes, you already have the cable you need. ?

USB is backwards compatible with older standards, such as 2 being backwards compatible with 1, 3 being backwards compatible with 2 and 1, etc. Obviously it depends more on the physical connection (such as type A, B, C).
With all the returns and obtaining of phones I've amassed a nice stockpile of Samsung fast chargers and a few Samsung USB C cables(and adapters).
I've read before that USB C allows for non standard use of cables by manufacturers so I'm wondering if anyone has tried or knows if it will be an issue using the said chargers/cables (yes I know the Samsung chargers are only QC 2.0 spec).
I have a QC 3.0 car charger I got from Aukey during a sale. I have some Aukey USB A to USB C cables too that work fine with my Note 7 too.
Trying to see if I need to slowly replace my Samsung chargers with official QC 3.0 wall chargers (will need at least 2)
Here at work I am using my Note 7 charger setup. Left LG flat cable at home.

It's adaptive fast charger and does either 5.0v @ 2A or 9.0v @ 1.67A so 10w or 15w respectively
All QC are backwards compatible. QC 3 will know you are using QC 2 and charge at the rate of QC 2. If you use a QC 3 charger and have a QC 2 device the device will only draw QC 2. So you have nothing to worry about as long as they are QC compliant
