how can i remove this awful thing from my home screen?
Use nova launcher or some alternative
You can also use Xposed GEL Settings if you have Xposed installed. That's what I used to remove the search bar.
Didn't wana root but xposed is nice....I'll try Nova for now

I'm a huge Nova user for years now... having never had a Moto X phone, does using Nova as your default launcher impact Moto Voice and active listening features in any way?
(edit: still waiting on my "should have been delivered by now, but delayed by Moto" Moto X Pure form Motomaker.

Launchers have no affect on Moto features.
I like both Nova and Action Launcher.

Awesome, good to know! I was worried about those huge icons only four across... worry no more!

Just wondering what launcher you guys use/what works best with the RAZR m? I've always used go launcher (kind of getting sick of it) but I'm hearing that nova works well with android 4.0 + . What are your thoughts/opinions? Thanks

Nova Prime for me, all though I hate losing the circle widget..

Apex.
Nova and Apex seem to be the launchers of choice these days. I've used both and slightly prefer Nova, but I couldn't really tell you why. Both are great.

I like to keep it real simple. Nothing on home screen but 10 icons on dock. Just switched to Nova from go launcher and wow its smooth and fast. Love it

I was using nova but decided to go back to the stock launcher after playing around with it. I figured out how to remove the Google bar and then added some custom dock icons. Add all that with the circles widget and i am very happy with Blur.
I noticed that there's gestures included in the free version of apex. Pretty legit.

Yeah the free version of Apex has more features than the free version of Nova.

What have you done to your Moto X?
MIne, after Smart Launcher, Root, Xposed/GravityBox
Dark and minimal, PIE controls.
Looking for inspiration.

Nova launcher. FD shift calendar widget. Combo of stealth icons and cobalt icons. Gravitybox
US Cellular Moto X
Nova Launcher w/ "Made icon theme" (I didn't make it. It's called Made). Yahoo weather widget.
Nice.

Trying the basic approach. Top rows are folders, image is shortcut to gallery, double tap is playstore. Nova launcher prime is bomb haa
Pretty basic

How Did you get the sound search widget?
Edit: never mind I didn't realize the app was in the play store. It can preinstalled on my nexus 7 so I thought it was a nexus app.
Simple Yet satisfying..
Imprinted directly to your mind via a Moto X
Simple and functional.
It works for me, nothing special
Apex launcher Pro
Digital clock widget
Google Keep, Calendar, Play(music)
speed dials folder
and weather
Updated mine
I like the minimalist look a lot. I think I'm gonna stick with this for a while.
Looks great coming from the active notifications. And I'm all about consistency.
I hae gestures set up for Google Now, App Drawer, Quick Settings Bar, Flashlight and a few others. Plus the PIE controls, everything is pretty quick and easy.
Satisfied.
Pretty basic, I know. I got tired of changing my setup every couple days because I wanted it *just so*, so I put a pretty monochrome wallpaper on it and picked an icon pack that I liked a lot. I used Nova Launcher + Missed It for unread counts on certain icons too.
[EDIT] Finally found the attachment button.
Mine is very simple, yet elegant I think:
Using Zeam launcher....
So I have the new phone and it's nice and fast but what I'd like is to have 5x5 icon size as opposed to 4x5. Other than using a launcher is there any other ways to do this?
I think you'll have to use another launcher to do that.
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA Free mobile app
you can unlock the bootloader and root the phone. Install xposed and use gravity box. that will change the icon to 4x5 without changing the launcher.
True, but for some reason I thought if you didn't want to change the launcher someone wouldn't be likely to root but if you like the Google launcher that makes sense.

Gravity Box has the option, I'm not sure that it's currently working right now though.
Use nova or action launcher 3

OP said "other than using another launcher".
Does changing the DPI change the Icon size?

I am using Nova since I paid for that in the past. So far so good. I didn't want to use another launcher but I'm actually liking it
I am coming from Samsung devices and I really got used to seeing the stock icons with notifications on them. Are there any launchers that will do this without needing root?

Nova with the Tesla Unread plug in gives you icon notification badges.
Nova ftw! I have their paid app with gestures and other goodies...
I have used nova in the past and liked it but I don't like it on my 6p. I use the Gmd immersive app to hide my soft keys and when I use it on the stock launcher the screen becomes larger. When I use it with nova the screen stays the same size and when the soft keys hide nova just leaves a large black box instead of expanding the screen.

In your opinion Popular/Best launcher to use with this phone ?
I like Apex or Nova Launcher. Super customizable and stable. They have gestures which let you put all that screen real estate to good use.
The best for me!
The best for me is BuzzLauncher. I have been using it for 2 years already
i use Nova Launcher Prime...well worth it.
Pixel launcher
Action launcher 3. Looks and works great and has all kinds of shortcuts.

Action Launcher 3 skinned to work mostly like the pixel launcher... But with swipe from the left edge to open Google now in absence of assistant, and with double tap of the home screen to open the camera.
Nova Prime is my dd!
+1 Nova Prime. I'm going to experience the V20 as it is when I get it, perhaps for a few days. Then, time to customize!

Nova Prime FTW

I dont know the others but Buzz Launcher does. Also Next launcher, TSF Launcher, and Go launcher do too. (TSF is not being updated anymore, so you will probably discard it, although it is REALLY GOOD TOO)
