[Q] Nexus 7 to TV question

HI guys,
I just wanna know, how can i connect my device to tv?
Is there wired connection? what about wireless connection?
What are the things i need?
For example, my tv is Samsung LED Series 5?
What are the things i can do after connecting:
- can i access my device as a storage device?
- can i play a movie to my device and have it displayed in my tv?

With the app Mediahouse (pro) you can stream movies from your tablet to you tv (netwerk).
you can choose to stream content to your tablet of from your tablet to your tv (if i'm correct)

New or old n7? This is easily found anywhere online. Old n7 can't mirror it's screen to the TV except with a mod for miracast (this mod is new). This mod doesn't work on 4.3 yet and requires supported hardware on the TV too.
What does work is dnla or upnp, which sends local media to the TV - movies, music, photos that are stored locally not streamed. Many apps support this and lots of hardware does too.

I have the old one, there is no something like adapter, converter, cable that can connect the device to the tv? i cant seem to find any on mr. google, and yeah i saw that the new nexus 7 is capable of that, thanks

Chromecast may solve your problem if you can get your hands on one.

[Q] Hdmi INPUT? Possible to use N10 as monitor?

Just wondering if it's possible to use nexus 10 as essentially a portable hdmi monitor. I would like to Sometimes play console in lounge without taking up the TV and just wondered if it's possible to connect console to nexus basically... I already have a HDMI to mini HDMI lead... Wireless would be even better although not essential... Briefly investigated screen cast but seems like this is only designed to wirelessly stream to a TV (which already has hdmi input)

Ps my N10 is currently not rooted although I would consider rooting if it would enable such a possibility

N10 is designed for OUTPUT only.
That said, it's resolution is high enough that it would be a cool feature, but it's OUTPUT only.

Thanks for the reply I figured that might be the case, any ideas if its possible in a virtual sense? Ie plug a transmitter into console or other hdmi output and have it transmit the signal which can be picked up in an app like YouTube (but source is generated from transmitter rather than the Web)

Only solution I know of right now is Onlive, but then you have to pay for the game AND a subscription.

This might be possible, depending on what you want to play.
If it's a DVD/blu ray, you can stream that on a local wifi network with VLC on a computer, and play it on MX player on your tab, just point MX to the address of the stream.

I'm after doing it without a intermediary computer, that said I'm currently looking into hdmi to composite adapter into a raspberry pi and using that to stream to network and picking it up via this mx player you mentioned...

That could be possible, but yikes! HDMI to composite is like going back light years of technology!
But yeah I've wanted to do the same in the past, to run my GameCube without a TV.
I ended up with a LCD hdtv with hdmi, component, composite and vga, so I just use that (mostly for my PS3 now).
I actually just ordered a pi last week!
I'm going to use it as a file server with a 1.5TB usb drive, and also a Wi-Fi repeater, on top of that, a torrent box (qBittorrent with http remote interface).

[Q] Nexus 7 as display for TV dongle possible?

Hello everyone,
I am attempting to set up a Tronsmart MK908II TV dongle as a portable sandbox and web development environment. For my first attempt I'm using the stock ROM and apps from the app store such as Bit Web Server and Terminal IDE. I've had a fair amount of success, though very tempted to install Pi****u (Ubuntu) for a more powerful environment.
One of my main objectives have a miniature HD monitor so I can have direct access to the device if necessary even when I'm on the go. Before I go out and buy a suitable device for this, I'm trying to get my Nexus 7 to act as the display, since I will always have it with me and it's the perfect size. I believe I may have all the necessary cables and converters to make something like this possible... I'm just a bit stuck at the moment on getting it all to work as I want and I suspect its a software/config/capabilities limitation more than a physical one. I have already attempted this a couple of different ways, including using a USB cable from the dongle and an OTG converter for my Nexus 7, but could not get the Android USB Serial Monitor Lite app to recognize input from the dongle.
Does anyone know of any tools or knowledge that might help me achieve this? I can probably find an app that will allow me to remote control my dongle from my Nexus, which is plan B, but it's far less desirable since there are some circumstances that a purely software solution might not work from the dongle end.

I recall a decent thread here on XDA somewhere but can't find it right now and seem to recall the app wasn't going anywhere too fast.
And there's at least one 3 star app on Play, but doesn't work for many people.
I'll be happy just to get FM radio, with SDR Touch or whatever...

thanks, can be a thing like that but I want to use any usb dongle that I want and not a single choose like that.
For example I'v build for my daily use, a mini barebone with a small debian distro with VDR, in this way I can play divx and dvb-t as I want but, if my dongle usb dvb-t for any reason broke........I can buy the first dongle usb that I found on any market online, compile kernel module for that dongle and put in usb port it, it's so simple.......
I love nexus player, 99$ about, remote control, android marke, playing game, youtube, and more infinite possibility, but at TV DVB side I want be free to use any usb dongle DVB for desktop pc as I made today
There's any chance to get, nexus player kernel, enable DVB module for dongle, put inside usb port of nexus player, and watch tv?
At software side, is need an app or Android TV S.O. is capable to manage DVB correctly?

Do you have any other Android devices? If you're already comfortable recompiling a kernel to support your hardware, I'd suggest trying that on a different Android device first. Then you would know if the Android framework could handle such a device.
EDIT: Here's a link to the Android TV developer site about supporting live TV in Android TV. It appears it's designed around that being possible, so if you can add your tuner hardware support to the kernel I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to make it work within Android.

Nvidia Shield TV questions

I am probably going to buy one of the 16gb Nvidia Shield TVs but I have some questions or want feedback if I am on the right
track with this.
I currently have a Roku Premiere Plus(with problems with HDCP 2.2, etc) but it works with the Spectrum App which gives me local channels that
I think the Shield can't do or can't do easily without side loading the app with bugs.
I have plenty of IT hardware(have worked IT for 40+ years) so I will probably use one of my spare PCs as a Plex server...can I connect an OTA antenna
to that(locate it near the antenna) instead of having to route coax through my house to the Shield? I am also on the distance border for this at about
45 miles from nearest towers(Rochester, NY).
Is a separate Plex Server better as I don't need additional hw attached to the Shield but can still access it via my Meshed WiFi environment(Ubiquiti)? Or
will my wifi performance be slower than a usb 3.0 connected drive on the Shield? If I don't go with a separate Plex Server then should I go with a powered
USB Hub to allow more toys to be connected to the Shield at one time?
I will add the Rii keyboard to ease use...any best ways to manage a single(recommendations?) universal remote to get down to just one remote for my
TV(Samsung 4K HDR), Denon AVR, Shield, Samsung BluRay DVD player, etc? I also have two XBox 360 controllers that I will add to my list of things to
try after figuring the device out better.
