Hello everyone. My system restarting itself over and over and I know why.I have to gain access to root directory files to edit a file.My device is on TWRP right now and my pc recognizes it.I have access to sdcard and external sdcard right now.I want to know how do I access root files through windows.I tried "Android Commander" but it didn't recognize my phone.I see some articles about ADB but I don't have enough info to use that.Is there a guide or something to use that for it? Do you know another way? Please help me.

In TWRP you have a build in file manager. Look for it.
You can use an ftp app like this one :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t+ftp&pcampaignid=APPU_1_NTEOVpDRFsP-aYnvkIgK
Its a paid app but you can find similar ones free on playstore.

No he cannot. Because his device did not boot.
By custom recovery, there is a solution to create a flashable patch to correct error by replace app or delete it.
I can do it if i have infos and upload it there
Use ADB to fix it with shell by pulling/editing/pushing files.

Hello,
I need beta testers running Mac OS X to test a new application.
This application is for people who are either uncomfortable or unwilling to use Terminal and ./adb for pushing files to their device.
This first beta version is just to test how it works on different computers. It pushes the file to the sdcard of the phone using ./adb. The only input needed from the user is to select the file.
Later releases will let the user choose which folder on the device to copy to, but the next release will probably just involve pushing .apk to the /system/app folder.
Please let me know the results.

It's a program that runs a script
It's just a test to see how it works, I will turn it into a more "real" application later.
I've updated it to Beta 2

Ah, you're using a different language. That could be the problem. Is the folder path still /Documents/Android/SDK/tools on your computer?
Also, when you run it in Automator, where does the error occur?

The folder path in my iMac is /Users/Rainbow/Documents/Android/SDK/tools
the error occur after a few seconds after click OK after choosing the file to be sent to MemoryCard
Okay, if it doesn't occur until then, that means it sees the device and android SDK. Is the SD card mounted on the computer? are you copying to /sdcard/ as the file path?

i don't understand this_ " are you copying to /sdcard/ as the file path?" sorry

I am so sick of using a windows computer to do anything on my Hero so as soon as I get home tomorrow I will be trying this out on my system. SL 10.6.4 and I will be so happy to do it..

I'm a bit confused--PushFile is for pushing files from your Mac to phone (in other words, a computer-side application), while Root Explorer is a file manager for the phone (a phone side app), that, unless I've missed something, does not replicate the functionality that PushFile attempted to provide. Am I missing some cool new feature of Root Explorer that lets you easily transfer files from your Mac to your phone?
I just want to give props to a program for windows called Android Commander. I am not sure if its been mentioned on the Vibrant forum yet, but it got me out of a major jam today.
Android Commander is basically ADB with an easy to use interface. It lets you pull and push files to and from your pc to your Android device.
Story:
I tried to MM the Androdena theme but it seems the framework was corrupted and caused me to keep me in a forceclose loop not letting mount or boot or really do anything. I did make a nandroid backup but some how deleted the CW update zip from my sd at an earlier date and could only boot up into the stock recovery. I was ok with having to reflash the stock rom using Odin, but needed some important pictures that I took for work. Needless to say I starting freaking out. I have ADB set up but only know a few basic commands and I'm sure what I needed to be done could have been done from there. I started searching for solutions on Google and found this awesome program.
I was first able to move the picture folder from my sd card to my pc, then move and rename the CW update.zip to root of the sd card in turn letting me boot into CW recovery and restoring my nandroid.
The only thing I needed to do was to make sure my device was online through ADB and Android Commander was able to find the device and show me all my files and such. Its a great program, and I highly recommend it if you are not familiar with ADB.
I will need to check this out when I get home. I want an easy way to remove the bloatware on my phone.
it seems like an interesting program, and would be good, but for me it doesn't show that i have root. it tells me "root no" and when i use the console in it and use the su command it tells me no. but still a good program over all, i did some looking around and i believe it will only show you have root access if you have an APP2SD installed. i might be wrong with that, but atleast if anyone else has the same trouble with it please let me know if you figure a work around.
ps, you can view root files and folders just not push or pull anything from them.
Yep, I am seeing the same thing.
I did some research on Google and this is what I came up with:
"adb remount and adb root are protected commands and need either a rooted kernel or a flashed recovery model to run" - Source: Rastaman-FB
ah I see. That's good to know. I guess ill be sticking with just the normal ADB. But I think the program will still be very useful for other stuff considering we don't have to mount the USB so no rescan media after the unmount. That alone is a keeper for me. Thanks again for the information pal.

I must say
I have been using android commander since his 1st beta on all my android rooted phone..
It is the best android tool Out there.
Im usually private about the tools I use but
Android Commander (By PanPiotr) is the best and easiest adb GUI tools out there.
Features
Explore files:
- copy multiple files/dirs between Phone and PC
- copy multiple files/dirs between Phone folders
- delete multiple files/dirs from Phone
- new dir and rename options
- drag&drop multiple files/dirs in to progrm
- drag&drop files/dirs between program tabs
- partitions size info
- bookmarks
Manage apps:
- windows integration
- backup multiple apps to any dir on Phone/PC
- batch/single apps install
- install as private
- update
- batch/single uinstall apps
- uninstall with option to keep data or not
Console:
- type any shell command
- run sh script from PC
and more…
- flashing zip and img files
- options to reboot, reboot to recovery, reboot to bootloader, power off phone
- screenshots (beta)
Stupid question. I accidently deleted my update.zip file and I attempted to reflash another rom. Of course now I'm stuck at the Vibrant Logo and tried to use this app. It says its trying to connect, but never does. I have SDK installed, but I think its the version from when I was tinkering with the G1.
I got into Download mode with the BIG yellow triangle, but my PC never seems to show anything connected via USB unless I try connecting via Recovery.
This app sounded like something would help me since I'm not very good at ADB, but I guess I'm having issues getting over the first hurtle is seems. LOL

Hi all,
Love my HTC Desire so much i bought a Witstech A81E Android 2.2 Tablet. Which is pretty buggy to say the least though on the whole works well.
The one thing that is driving me crazy is a number of apps dont install with the logcat error:
"packagename.apk requires unavailable shared library com.google.android.maps"
Now from what i have read apparently this device does not come with Google Maps API so my question is how do i add it?
Can it be done? Do i need to modify a ROM to do it? can i push it via adb or apk?
A little help would be greatly appreciated.
It would need to have google apps installed to be able to access the libraries. Best bet is to find out if it has been rooted yet and try to install the proprietary applications they can't ship the device with.
appreciate the help mate. i've rooted the device though where can i find google maps api?
the unit already has google maps 5.0 installed but apparently doesnt have the API's.
Any idea what im looking for? will it be an APK or just some files i need to put in a system folder?
i think im over my head
additionally i have searched for any com.google.android.maps related data on my desire and have found the following:
/system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar
/system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml
/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml
/data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected]
could it be as easy as copying this over to my tablet?
Ill try it out tonight.
If the application is installed correctly it should work because the api is stored in the data. Is the application on the tablet installed to the /system/ or /data/ partition. It might be looking for the data in /system/
not sure what you mean about where the application resides? you mean the app i am trying to install? The app i am trying to install is Tasker.
i have been doing some googling and saw someone else have the same problem and he managed to fix it:
When trying to install some apps, I would see this error message in logcat:
requires unavailable shared library com.google.android.maps
I had the Google Maps app installed and working, but that didn’t fix the issue. It turns out, I had to add two other files and restart the phone. I found those files in the google zip from Cyanogenmod. It took a little fiddling, but I was able to use these instructions to remount /system in write mode. First step was to take the following two files from the google apps zip (gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip) and put them onto my sd card.
/system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml
/system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar
Then to load them onto the phone, I opened the terminal emulator and ran:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /mnt/sdcard/com.google.android.maps.xml /system/etc/permissions/
cp /mnt/sdcard/com.google.android.maps.jar /system/framework/
Then after I rebooted the phone, I was able to install apps that depend on Google Maps. I can now check bus and train times, and do all kinds of other cool stuff with maps!

i simply used root explorer to copy it across though still not working. surely someone smarter than me can tell me what i am doing wrong.
is copying with root explorer essentially the same as above?
damn i could have sworn someone here would have been switched on enough to help me on this
oh well back to random googling for me.
Well did you try using terminal emulator? And do what he did? B/c that looks like a remount to system to me easy as pie just do what he did you can find the files with root explorer or do it on your pc doesnt really matter. You can Not achieve what he did just using root explorer you need terminal emulator!

I don't know how much it will help (or if its 100 percent true) but I was just told recently that moving a file via root explorer is the same as pushing it via adb.

now i am confused. can i use root explorer or not? i used root explorer and then reset the correct permissions on the files though its still not working.
I take it i can get a terminal emulator that runs on the device itself yeah?
Ill try that next.
If that fails i am going to try my first attempt at cooking a ROM
Appreciate all the help!
no more love for Sage?
i dont know why its so hard..
I did try to cook the original ROM though unyaffs couldnt extract the img.
looks like i might have to boot up a Virtual nix box.. damn this is so much harder than it should be.
my nexus 4 was rooted with 4.3 but then i decide to upgrade to 4.4
this is the video i am trying to follow, basically just wipe & install which i did most the time.
youtube title "NEXUS 4: HOW TO MANUALLY UPDATE TO ANDROID 4.4 KITKAT"
it has two files one is mako and one is gapp.
after i did all the wiping in cwm and try to install the mako file, it shows "no file context" or sth similar, and installation is abort (i think there is problem when i transfer the file), but then i continue to install the gapp file (what the hell was i thinking?)
so now i am stuck in the google start up loop, i can only access cwm recovery mode and don't have a valid rom to install in my sdcard.
i tried to adb push another rom to the sdcard with no success (my storage was already very low, any way to remove files in the storage at this point?)
the "mount & storage" also doesn't seem to let me mount the sdcard (but system shows up "unmount").
so now i don't know what to do.
if anything has any idea or suggestion please let us know.
i am quite desperate now with a dead phone and will try anything.
thanks for reading such a long thread.

after tons of troubleshooting finally got it back to work.
it ends up the reason is i didn't update to the latest cwm at the very beginning.
and sideloading 4.4 didn't work because of that too, i have to install an old 4.2 to have it working.
Many thanks to Jeff_kz for the excellent Nookmanager. I just set it up on my UK NSTG 1.2.1 and everything seems to run well.
I have a few questions. Keep in mind that I'm a newb and that I have gone through the forums looking for answers but can't find any.
1) How do I get ReLaunch to stay on /system and not on /sdcard?
2) I tried deleting some stock apps, starting with demomode.apk to be safe, but after delete and confirmation nothing happens, how do I delete them? After that, can anyone confirm that these are all safe to delete? And could someone identify the Amazon app store for me, since I can't find that one to delete?
3) How can I install ES File Explorer? (Will that replace ReLaunch?)
4) The only apps I really need are Pocket/Read It Later and a pdf viewer, so I don't think the NTGAppsAttack is for me. Once I have ES File Explorer, will I be able to install Pocket using an old .apk file loaded onto the nook via sd? Or will I need to use adb? And where is a guide for installing apps?
Many thanks in advance!

I followed some tutorials on this, but I haven't gotten adb to work on my computer yet. Did anyone else have this problem with their nook?
Since I can't use adb: am I really stuck without it? Or should I use your GApps tools? (My problem with using the GApps tool is it includes a lot of things which I don't want/need.)
Thanks for the help so far.
You can't see anything in /data because you aren't using adb or a root file explorer. adb over wireless is pretty darn easy to get going. Not much more than loading adb on your pc and starting adb wireless on your NST. To get a root file explorer going without adb put an .apk of ES File Manager on your SD card then tap on it in ReLaunch to install it. Run through its settings for it to be a root explorer and to mount system R/W
