I won an HTC One M9 from sprint. My previous phone was a non-triband L720 Samsung S4.
I'm selling the phone to a friend who will be getting Sprint, but can't yet do it because the closest place around is like 60 miles away!
So in the mean time, he got a straight talk card (CDMA&GSM)
I have found two relevant URLs pertaining to unlocking the phone.
Domestic unlock - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530610
And international - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415587
Thing is,
A. I'm in good standing with Sprint so I can get it unlocked.
B. Dear god look at those instructions! I can unlock it manually, but dang man! That's scary if I go into a menu and screw things up, or worse, it doesn't unlock and I don't even know which step I messed up on. I've been flashing for years, I'm not a newbie.
I need help with:
A. helping me know which stock from to flash. I came from lollipop.
B. while keeping my recovery if possible. He wants my CM12.1, so I will back it up and then restore it.
C. Do I need to flash any modems/basebands? I'm confused. I have
L720PUGOD2 currently.
So
1. Backup cm12.1
2. flash lollipop stock
3.call Sprint, get UICC unlock
they will domestic unlock it right?
4. Then I can get back to the cm12.1 on my own.
Is that correct? From what I read, CDMA straight talk
So hopefully it's that easy. My buddy want the phone working asap so I would really appreciate an opinion from a pro. Thanks!

Yes, OD2 is the stock Lollipop, actually if you look in the General section there is a domestic unlocked OD2 modem that you can simply flash in Odin.

K, so I was using a guide that required me to download a self extracting zip that would downgrade me to M919. It just. wouldn't. work. I went through hell to make it work.
downloaded Kies, drivers.... I ended using a different guide that had me downgrade to NG2. with a few lines of ADB, I was unlocked! two days, 20 files later....
Anyways, flashed the Google edition ROM, pimped it out, and everyone is happy. I learned a lot in the process.

You can't, just edit the title to say [Solved] at the beginning or end so if someone else has the same problem they can find the solution.

Hello, I have been updating my phone to KitKat and following tutorials for bypassing the NAE Bootloader with KNOX. I have MK2 so I have KNOX already. Is there any reason why NAE bootloader would be any different? I have not run into any tafus with the bootloader I have now. But all the work around stuff is probably pointless right? Since it all seems to keep MF9.
I have TEP on my Sprint account so warranty has never been an issue I had broken the camera on mine. So I traded it out with a custom rom and custom recovery and everything and they didn't seem to pay any mind.

I never understood why some people stayed away from the new bootloaders other than avoiding the secured bootloader. There's more...A lot more. Recently I tried to use Heimdall to print the PIT of a N900T on Kit Kat. No go. A SIMPLE PROCESS that's HARMLESS got locked down. Now that we're unable to access that, Heimdall isn't even usable. Only Odin...and I can't use Odin to do what development I need to do on the N900T.
Yes I know this is the L720 thread but how long before we get this bootloader too? THIS is why I recommend avoiding newer bootloaders whenever possible. Samsung is starting to foolishly lock down everything like...(as noobtoob put it) that one company whose phone starts with an I.

Yeah I was surprised when I I got access to a Sprint S4 that was was Kit Kat-ed up and I could do anything to it with CDMA workshop flashing to pageplus was a breeze.
So even though MK2 and NAE both have KNOX you would still recommend sticking with MK2? Because I screw up my phones quite a bit and have needed to have the PIT file. So I can see why this would not be beneficiary.
I also think that carriers have a lot of say in what goes on with their phones. Sprint was pretty cool in the beginning but now it looks like the ATT variant.

AFAIK, KNOX isn't the issue, it's what they're doing to these bootloaders to secure them. The AT&T variants are much worse. The N900A hasn't had root since kitkat dropped for it. AND even IF they got root...back to safestrap? F that... I wish I was more skilled in bootloader hacking.

I personally use HTC one and am rooted with a custom rom. I had purchased a verizon Galaxy Note 3 for my sister as a Christmas gift and she loves the thing but i guess after loading up junk to it and the bloat already on the phone its gotten slow and Samsung patched out the ability to tether. So she has commissioned me to root her phone for her and find a Debloated rom that's as close to stock as possible. Correct me if i'm wrong but based on my reading Samsung devices have a extra hurdle to jump called KNOX and it will cause you to void your warranty and its unrecoverable from that voided state ? Is what i'm asking possible to do without doing this to the phone if this even happens ? I know the new TowelRoot method is the in thing to rooting Samsung devices but that's all i know about it. Her Note3 is on the second OTA update does this matter ? should i update to the latest OTA ? then root ? Any input would be GREATLY appreciated especially cause you'd help me to get my sister to stop harassing me to do this for her lol

Check to see if the phone is on NC4, most likely you are at this point. If so read this thread here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Scroll down to post 2 and follow instructions that read coming from NC4 OTA.
If you've never used Odin see here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576104
Once up and running most roms are good. Alliance is great but the settings are very involved and may a bit much for her. I have the last Baja rom before they became Alliance if you're interested. The s5 port is a work of art as well but more than she's looking for probably. I can't really say for what rom you should pick as that's user choice. Hope this helps.

Thanks for checking and sharing that pic. You're on MJE. Look for the kingo root app online. There's no link on xda. The app is pretty straight forward from what I remember. If she just wants bloatware gone she can download Titanium Backup once rooted and get rid of some bloat.

Not from a website, he must be a samsung ses or employee.
Any word on a potential release date for nougat? Extremely dissatisfied with Samsungs lack of support with the U variants. Makes me want to avoid Samsung products here on out.
It makes me think that they're waiting to synchronize the S8 and S7u software releases... So perhaps the S7u will get all the S8 features before the carrier versions?
I know the SM-G930VL got Nougat today. No Wi-Fi calling or video call but it did finally get it. It's the Straight Talk unlocked version.
That's pretty pitiful when prepaid carriers get it before unlocked owners...
It's pretty stupid that an UNLOCKED version doesn't have the latest software, so dumb of Samsung to do that.
Also None of the Verizon versions of S7 has the updated firmware too, so far only T-Mobile in the US has 7.0
May be AT&T does too

All the major carriers have it. Verizon just got it about a week ago.
I bought this thinking 7.0 was on it, and quite disappointed that it's not, and it's not even available.
You can Odin another carriers nougat on the U. I'm using Verizon's until it does cone out.
Do I need to root my phone to do that? or I can just ODIN it?
Any instructions or videos on it, really don't want to root the phone as it decrease the value

No you don't have to root. It's just a simple Odin procedure.
Great

Is it pretty smooth? Any lag and what about the battery life?

what? no, just scroll down (bottom of first post) to where it says "return to stock" and follow the instructions there. you don't have to be rooted to install another official samsung rom. and also fwiw even if you do end up rooting you can always reinstall stock rom without tripping knox (as implied in the tutorial).

Just like he said but when you download the Verizon firmware, make sure you use CSC and not the HOME CSC when you flash. Home will keep your data but I'm not sure how it'll react coming from a different carrier.

alright. so i want to say i went this route as well. i have 3 months left on my sprint contract.that being said, i have the files he used during the unlocking process. the problem is there is another thing he did to actually unlock it. he used something called flexihub while it was in the combination firmware to actually do something on his machine that i couldnt see. this is something he did on the modem level, but i confirmed with him that it doesnt matter if i flash another firmware using odin, my sim will still be unlocked. i have tried this with verizon sim and it works. again, my contract is not up with sprint yet, which means my device shouldnt be unlocked, but this somehow works. if anyone else wants this, here is the ebay seller link that i got mine done within an hour. keep in mind that you have to back up your device, because what he does is flash firmware. also he will need access to your computer to work remotely, but he never strayed from what he was doing. for 7 bucks, this is a steal.

Hey this ebay link does not work anymore can you guys tell me the sellers info so i can contact him thru ebay directly? Thanks in advance. My Note 8 has been just a wifi only paper weight for over a year now cause i cant switch carriers.
So I just bought a used Galaxy s10 Plus on eBay. I was getting amazing battery life and great SOT but I was forced to download Android 11 by force update and now my SOT has gone down almost 2.5 hours from when it was previously running on Android 10. I despise having to deal with these issues even though its a used phone. On the SamMobile website I found the correct PDA G975U1UES5GUD1 but I can't find the CSC code on my phone and I am afraid I will flash the wrong firmware and damage the phone.
How can I Find the CSC code on my phone? The device is been used on Verizon prepaid via Red Pocket Mobile and its Factory GSM and CDMA unlocked. I would really appreciate any help I can get with this.
Thank you so much in advance.

You won't damage your phone if they mismatch, probably only carrier settings would break
But the link I gave according to that you are having Verizon as the carrier and you are living in the US when you got force OTA update then it’ll match.
That's if you can go back.
Doesn't 11 update the boot loader version too?
Well yeah now that you mention it probably.
Hmm, but there should be a way of degrading the software even so.

I'm still running Pie. It's what I've been seeing here about the 11 update updating the boot loader too. Maybe that's OTA upgrades only.
Not a concern of mine though.
Data loss is a given... at least be prepared for it.
Yeah, I agree since I'm still running 10 Idk really about bootloader changes from 10-11.
But if that's the case then Its probably impossible to downgrade without getting a bricked phone.
Doublecheck the bootloader version code of both versions of android so you don't brick your phone.
This is starting to sound too risky I do appreciate everyones help on this post honestly but at this point I am not going to risk messing up a $330 phone. But thank you all for making things clear.

Well, you can wait for the fix then. Maybe Samsung will release a fix to solve that issue

Yeah hopefully thank you for your help tho. Appreciate it.
No problem, but if the kernel hasn't changed the ROM can be downgraded. If it has you can just take it to Samsung and ask them to downgrade for you.
My friend did that.
