[Q] GT I9505 Overheat - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
Im got the Galaxy s4 I9505 Black Edition and my phone gets hot at the top of the screen, for example when i watching youtube videos or using the browser. It is really annoying so i want to ask u guys, is there a Custom ROM or a Kernel which avoid the overheat problem?
It will be really nice if someone could help me
King Regards

Undervolting might help.
Mine gets to 72 degrees celcius while playing intensive games.

I use a fan to cool mine down

Will try slimsaber with alucard kernel and will try to undervolt, never did that :/

[Q] LG G2 game lags

Hello,
i downloaded a few games and i`m surprised that on Snap800 are some lags...
Assassins Creed Pirates
GTA San Andreas
at last this 2 game has lagged for me and idk why? can anyone help?
If games are not optimised for the chip, lag will occur. If games aren't properly coded or graphically intensive the phone will use a lot of processing power and heat up quickly. Then it will start throttling the CPU to avoid overheating.

Ok, thanks for answer... but can be removed some lags via changing rom? cuz im now at stock wit no root and maybe such lags?its really noticable
Try disabling thermal throttling. I would consider this a design flaw

i dont want warm phone for this games, i already have disabled high temp off, if ut suggestion wont warm phone ill do it
actually on GTA not so many lags as on assassin xD bu gta sucks as his gameplay so not so interesting game, im worry about assassin lag its sometime goes really noticable but still playble but i saw that that game was running smooth on nexus 7 abt interesting wrf with ubisoft that cannot make game optimized x.x or aaah im confused what ti do that not warm phone and makes games smooth
hello guys,
I have recently bought G2 D802 and i have found the same type of lagging in my device to, previously i was using S3 and S4 and gaming was smooth in both of my previous devices. I play games which do not have high graphics like Temple run 2, Granny Smith and Banana Kong.
It is such a costly device and i am ruing the day i bought this device because i also dont like the camera result of my G2, hoping that update will resolve this problem....
try setting down_differential to 70 in ondemand settings. this stops the CPU frequency jumping up and down so much
you can use apps like trickster to do this easily, but you need to be rooted
remember to turn it back to 10 after playing your games for better battery efficiency
edit.. oops, sorry I brought up an old thread, I forgot I was looking at search results

[Q] Tegra Note 7 shaky kernel issue on wifi with static ip

Hello Sir
I am new Xda.I have installed your latest overclocked shaky kernel on my tegra note 7.Its really awesome. But only an issue with my wifi.It doesnot load images in playstore and browser.Youtube app always showing network error .My internet provider uses a static ip.But its fine with the stock kernel.only problem is with your kernel.Still now i am using your kernel with this issue because while using tab its really cool and playing games with almost low heat is amazing.on stock kernel on gaming the tab would really heat up which really makes me tensed whether it would blow off.But now it reaches max. to 43 even on hours of gaming.but please fix my wifi issue. It would be helpful to me.
I hope you give me a solution for this asap.Thank you

[Q] is it safe to disable thermal throttling on G2?

hey guys
i am looking for some advice. Some of the custom kernels out there have thermal throttling disabled .
Is this safe to do ?
I mean , if i usually play for 2 hours continuous , will there be any problems ?
Or for example HD video recording ... the phone tends to get hot on stock ... but with thermal throttling i guess it will get even hotter.
So what do you say , is it ok to disable in case i sometimes play some games for 1-2 hours continuous ?
thanks

I personally wouldn't do it. You see, it is not just a matter of overheating the Snapdragon 800, but also the LCD display can get to hot. And if you destroy the display, it will cost at least half as much as the phone itself. It is probably not worth the 5 or so extra FPS. If you are serious about android gaming, take a look at Xiaomi MiPad, with the Tegra K1 it is probably the best android gaming device BY FAR.

actually i am not serious about android gaming
it's just that sometimes to pass the times i play some games . For example games like kingdom rush . And sometimes i get lost in the phone and i find myself playing 2 hours straight
the reason i am asking is because i want to use a custom rom . And almost all of them use kernels that have this option disabled
if you know a good kernel that will not crash and will not cause any problems but has thermal enabled ... pls share
I would recommend LG stock kernel, furnace kernel 2.5.1 or CloudyKernel (with CloudG3 2.0 rom for example)

Dude, use the latest NH6 version + the Force GPU Rendering trick (from Developer Options).
To some limit, this helps (but unsure if the framerate goes back to normal, because I never played heavy games while I had Jelly Bean).
Check and, please, report back.

Almost all games lags ... I tried ticking force gpu rendering ..btw still games lages ..any way to fix ?
@white7561
His work greatly cuts lags, combined with Scary Performances (not sure of the name) which was shared by @sanjujoseph
Not totally cutting, but a great deal faster.

Could you please tell me what i should do? I tried to flash factory image still didn't solve thus problem.

A different ROM won't make any difference, unless it has its own kernel with some performance tweaks. Set CPU to On Demand, and GPU to Performance. Might make a difference. You could try a kernel with overclock, like AK, but you should make increases incrementally and keep an eye (or hand) on possible overheating.
If you were able to run things before, but now things are lagging with the same settings, It'll be because you've got extra crap running the background hogging resources.
I think Hells Core b57 can help u, dude. I tested this kernel w/ some heavy games and it did very well :3. But, play so many heavy games w/ that kernel can make ur battery drain very fast w/ b57 version include ur phone will be heat up @@

PARANOID ANDROID or CYANOGENMOD.
You can't go wrong with either of these ROMS
Plus you can download Franco's kernel for PA.
Under the CPU governer choose performance. This will cause all your cores to run at 1.5ghz regardless of the load on your system. Hence maximizing performance
There's a temperature throttling option in Franco kernel.
Google sets its GPU throttling at 37 Celcius. So when your phone heats up, the performance decreases.
You can actually override this default temperature so you'll get a better performance in the LONGER RUN.
Just don't crank it up too high. We don't want your phone to be extra hot.
But 37 degrees celcius is way too low when compared to other phone GPU throttling temperature.
Thanks everyone!
That really helped me.
