Anyone using barnacle wifi on mytouch and able to actually tether? I know about wifi tether built into the phone or the wireless tether app. Those work fine, I want to use barnacle because of its open NAT. So no critics please. I just need someone that got it to work because my device can see it, but barnacle won't show me its connected or that its a client

I have it installed and configured, but can't get anything to connect to it. The SSID broadcasts, but it shows up as an available "device" vs. a wifi network. I try to connect by with and without WEP (Barnacle says it failed to parse WEP if security enabled), and it appears to connect, but Barnacle shows no client connections and no access from the other device.
Just using the android wifi tether app instead...

Hope it's not a (too) stupid question - with a rooted device, can I use the Wi-Fi Tether bundled app w/o the tethering option in my plan (read: for free)?
Thanks
Hi there
I use Wifi tether for root users, looks and works better than Barnacle
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Which version have are you using?
None of them specify MT4G.
I have a rooted Mytouch 4g running 2.2 and was able to get "Android-wifi-tether" working using the version for the Samsung Fascinate 2.x. Its the last option at the link h4xdaplanet provided.
I cant provide a direct link since I have a new account, sorry.
Thanks
I actually got this one to work a while ago but forgot to update

I am using to built in hot spot with no issues at all, before and after root. Not a stupid question. As long as you have the data plan, afaik, there is no current extra cost for using wired or wireless tethering. Hope this helps.
Hi all,
I have a 3G mobile access, Tattoo, Hero. And i would like to use the Tattoo to share the 3G mobile signal as a hotspot for other mobile devices such as Hero, Nexus One, etc.
Could this hotspot be available in Tattoo or Hero just like hTC Desire, Nexus One?
Thanks.

Thanks, Hm... Tried the aNetShare which provide a tethering services only allow wireless access to computers such as PC, Mac, Ubuntu.
But other kinds of mobile devices such as Hero can't find due to it's not a WiFi hotspot
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ that should do it but be careful the battery !It drains out real quick. My GF's Mac book had successfully connected to it.
P.S. You might have an issue with the resolution.
Barnacle is good as well for WiFi tethering.
But tethering only allowed PC, Mac to connect with but it's not for other kinds of mobile devices such as my Hero

You can use Proxoid, no need to have root, only need to have Android SDK installed on PC!
Tutorial (it's in Portuguese, you can translate it via google translator):

You could always try commercial apps like EasyTether or PdaNet.
Both have free versions, but these won't allow you to use secure http (https). If my memory serves me, both these should work just as well with wifi as with 3g.
Barnacle WI FI tether is the best out there, I believe. You can find it on the market.
Do you mean use your phone as a WI FI receiver for your computer/laptop/whatever?
X8 can't WiFi tether as we don't have iptables in are kernel, you can how ever usb and Bluetooth tether with the apps suggested

If you're still looking for a Wifi tether app, I'm rooted with JB and the "Wifi Tether for Root Users" app by Muller,Lemons, Buxton works great. I put my device profile as Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) and it works perfectly
