I am confused, I had a galaxy note 2 for few months but i recently lost it I am currently using a non smartphone and I know that lots of new phone will be announced next week at IFA berlin 2013 but am not willing to spend a lot on a phone after losing my note 2.
Nexus 4 prices are gone down to clear out the stock for nexus 5 but am not sure if it will be as cheap as nexus 4 was when it first launched. what do you suggest, should i wait till nexus 5 is announced and see if its worth it or get a nexus 4 now?
I also wanted to know if the battery life is good enough to last me a whole day since my note 2 had 3100mah compared to nexus 4 2000mah?
thanks in advance
The battery is good, atleast for me, I can easly get 1 day out of it.
Hmm well PERSONALLY I would buy the N4. But that's because I can't wait when buying something new and because I think that the N4 is already so smooth that you don't some more cores/ghz etc like the N5, because how much faster can it get? The heaviest games are already smooth so...
Maybe only a camera improvement would be nice.
Eitherway it's up to you, these are just my 2 cents.

Nexus 4 is indeed an amazing phone with the best pure android experience.
Of course all top branded high end androids will have support community for custom Roms and latest android features.
If you want some more customized UI like touchwiz or sense you can try something else.
But take into consideration that Nexus 4 is a value for money device with high performance which leaves most users satisfied.
It also has a unique design , a nice manufacturer and support both LG and Google.
I would recommend you to give it a try.
( another option for me is Moto X . very nice looks , customizable case , nice features etc. )
Just to reiterate what the other's have said, it's a brilliant value for money device, and recently in the UK at least there has been a 33% price drop from £239 to £159 which is absolutely crazy for a device of this spec. That's like a quarter of the price of the S4 which experiences more lag than the Nexus 4 if kept on touchwiz.
If you're one of those people who gets bored of the phone quite quickly, wait for the N5, I'm sure the price point will be just as good.
Nexus 5 isnt out yet and look at those people coming with their answers to buy n4.
First of all op it would be wise to sit and wait for n5 to come out and compare it on the based reviews with n4.
Then and only then you can say which phone suits you best.
Seriously, you guys sick the **** out of me with your adoration towards n4.

I recently broke my Note 2 and bought a Nexus 4 to replace it, so I feel I should chime in.
1) The Nexus has horrible battery life compared to the Note 2. I wish it wasn't so, but I've recently even gotten a battery pack to recharge it on the go. It lasts maybe 50% as long, and this is with the most recent update (jwr66y). --- EDIT: OP asked if he could use it all day. For me, it's a maybe. With light usage, yes, but not if you use it like you could the Note 2.
2) Switching from the big screen to the small one has been a real challenge. I've caught myself looking at tablets a lot lately, and I never felt I needed one with the Note.
3) While pure android is nice, touchwiz is nice too. I consider them a toss up.
4) The Nexus 4 is a very nice device. It has good build quality, a nice screen, runs fast, and enabling LTE is easy (with T-Mo at least).
Bottom line, I'm seriously considering buying the Note 3 when it releases in the coming weeks, and keeping the Nexus as a backup. It's either that or getting a tablet, but I'd much rather continue to have 1 device.
might as well wait for the nexus 6, itll be even better than the 5 :silly:

It's different when there's maybe a 2 month wait vs. a 14 month wait. I'll be waiting for the 5.
Buy N4 and then sell it off resale value will ofc be good till N5 is released.

Well, I have a gnex and a nexus 4, and the nexus 4 is a massive improvement over the gnex, however I'm not sure a nexus 5 phone will be a massive leap over the nexus 4 unless klp is more resource heavy. My n4 is buttery smooth and I even considered buying another one just because there only 200$ now. Go for the nexus 4 and you can probably resell it in a year for 200-300$ still

It's been a long time coming but after making the jump from an S4 to Note 3 I took the next step and went with the Nexus 6.
I couldn't be happier with the choice. The size, feel, root love and NO F-ing TOUCHWIZ is like falling in love with Android all over again.
I just needed to tell someone who is Androidliterate, thanks for listening
Meh, probably should have posted this in the Nexus Lounge. My bad
This is my first Nexus (pure Android) device. I traded my note edge for it. So far liking it but I kinda miss my edge. But I'm such a phone junky that once the new round of phones come out I'm sure I will be swapping again.

I just recently got rid of my Note 4 For the Nexus 6. Same reasons as the op. Much happier with the Nexus 6. Smoother, faster updates, and best of all, no touch wiz! Looks like the Note 5 is more of the same.
Switched a couple of months ago my Note 3 for a Nexus 6. Was waiting to see what Note 5 was going to offer, but since they didn't offer anything of interest, and suffering the Samsung policies about updates, or more about lack of updates, moved to Nexus again.

I'd avoided the Nexus 6 and other recent Moto phones because I like having a removable back - I like microSD card slots and removable batteries. Since Samsung has made the conscious decision to remove one of their greatest advantages over other brands, I decided that if I was going to upgrade to a phone without a removable back, microSD and swappable battery, I'd go with the phone I really wanted and not just the slightly better version of the phone I already had... And since I just turned 49 a few weeks ago, the bigger screen helps my old eyes to not need glasses - yet.
I have a Nexus 6, I decided to buy the Note 5 to see what it offers, Got rid of the Note 5, didn't miss it at all.
I was very happy that I didn't sell the Nexus 6. Although it's a bit old, it is still very capable.
I live in Sweden and I am dying to buy the Note 5 and get rid of my nexus 6. Don't get me wrong this is still the snappiest fastest most stable and incredibly comfortable phone I've ever had. But nexus does not utilize the large screen as Samsung does. Multiwindow spen etc. Stock Google is very boring

Its nice that they are there, and they are getting better every year, but some users don't really care.
Those features are really useful sometimes Ill give you that.

Looking to get rid of my note 4 for possibly a nexus 6. Just trying to at least find a 64 gig version. Having a hard time pulling the trigger though. Note 4 is such an awesome phone but TW and lollipop are just horrible on the note 4. So sick of not having the latest update. I just like the note 4 cause it offers evey feature you could want, but the experience is so average. Where I know the nexus 6, while its basic and just has the essentials, would offer a much better, richer experience. What's better, I don't know. Just tired of the hesitation that occurs with everything on the note 4.

I ditched my Note 3 and 4 for a Nexus 6 and I don't miss them one bit. Get a Nexus 6. You won't regret it.
Only reason I am taking the Note 3 out of service and replacing with a non Samsung device is the insistence on locked bootloaders. That's inexcusable in this day and age. My signal strength is not particularly good, and while I've been itching to replace it because of that, Samsung can't be a contender for my money. They need to quit doing what carriers want and listen to customers instead. Google is doing just that.
i find the s6 edge plus a nice looking phone than the note 5..specially in white..if they ever come out with a 128gb option i will buy it in a hearbeat..as of now i have my eyes on the moto x pure
Damn I must really like this phone. I didn't even know the note 5 was out yet. When I had my note 3 I was constantly waiting on "the next big thing" but since the N6 I haven't even cared about new phones coming out.

I'm not a fan of multi window. It has its use, I guess, but I didn't buy a large screen phone to split it into two little screens. I rarely split up windows on my laptop. Maybe I just got spoiled by the wide screen monitors in my office.
Stock Android isn't boring. ☺ it's clean. Like in cooking and construction, it's easier to add than remove.
I've had every Samsung, HTC, and Lg phone made in the last 5 years and NOTHING compares to a Nexus 6..
Boring? You obviously havent looked at the Dev threads to see dozens of roms, kernels, and mods, and tweaks, and that doesnt even take into the account the Original Dev Section. or the several "M" roms that we have to choose from already!
If you need a Spen, or are a Samsung fanboy, then buy a note 5

I had a Note 3 and went with the Nexus 6 and now I wish I had gone with the a Note 5. I bought my 14 yr old daughter a Note 5 and the wife a S6 Edge + last week. The Edge + seems to need some software updates to fix things but the Note 5 is awesome. I miss the SPen every day since months ago when I switched and using her Note 5 reminded me of how useful it was every day. Could give two f's less about multi window.
Also the screen and camera quality of the Note 5 and S6 Edge + are leaps beyond a Nexus 6 and I own all three.
I like being able to control software updates but not as much as I like us I like using the SPen. I would deal with no root and stock Touchjizz to be back in a Note again actually.
Well, let me tell you the truth friends. I was one of those folks who disappointed the Galaxy Note 5 because of not having the ability to swap the battery and the sdcard. I wasn't even considering an upgrade nor recommending to anyone! But boy, I've now changed my idea, why? because I realized that the note 5 is the best of phone out there.
Two weeks ago, someone brought me a 64 gb brand new galaxy note 5 and he wanted to sell it, I asked him how much he said 600, I said well I'll give you 450 he said okay. I called sprint to make sure if the devices is clean and they said good to go.... I gave him the money and here you go I started using my new note 5.. I really don't know the reason he was selling but maybe he was moving to outside of US, who cares the reason he was selling? the device is not reported lost or stolen... Anyway
I was using the device about two weeks and man, this device is so awesome. No more Samsung lags, no more freezing or stuttering, it's ridiculously fast and smooth. And that it's self is really big jump from the note 4. But it's not only that, the note 5 has the best screen, best camera, better speakers, better fingerprint and the most amazing thing which is Samsung Pay......... I was using that samsung pay one week and I haven't seen one single problem. Yes, the down side is that I was spending a lot of money lately because of that Samsung pay, every girl says; well we don't use mobile payments and I say to her well; well just watch and wait I'll show you, Oh my God what's this phone. I don't take my wallet no more, just my driver L. and that's all! Apple pay and Android pay works with only some NFC payment machines which sometimes they don't even turn it on!
In my conclusion, yes I'll miss sdcard and the removable battery but I have 64 gb internal memory and the note 5 has better battery life than my Note 4 so I can live up without these feature because of the many other good features of the phone..
I don't know about the upcoming Xperia Z5 Premium, but no other phone can compute with Note 5 today...
That was hard to read, but interesting and uderstood. Thanks for sharing.
They took away far too much for the 5 to be an "upgrade". Also, we now have Note 5 ROM's so there is certainly no reason to shell out the $ for the 5. Glad you like the new phone, but anyone on the fence to get the 5 or 4 coming from the 3 or other older phones should get the 4 hands down.

I was exactly saying something before but again the fact is that Note 5 is way faster and better than note 4. I had my note 4 a year and I know it very much. The phone is slow and laggy compare to the Note 5 and that's its self is worth an upgrade. I've installed note 5 rom on my note 4 but that's still slow unfortunately.

hahaha, I absolutely got your point. It looks like phone manufactures are moving away from expand-ability and even removable batteries. Look the new Google nexuses, the new v10 phone from LG, and so on, so let's see how it goes. as long as I got enough battery and storage I honestly don't care.

Currently have the Note 4 (and 3 and 2 before that). Since they took away the microSD and battery on Note 5, i was going to skip upgrading this year. Ended up pre-ordering the Nexus 6P (128gb) though. Figure if I didnt have microSD and removeable battery, id rather go stock android route. Hopefully I wont miss the removable battery too much since I do use that often.

Exactly what I did and loving my new N4. I played with the 5 on several occasions and I just didn't fall in love or even like with it. I wish I had because I could have gotten a 5 easily - but I fell in love with the 4 and it just kept drawing me back to it. From the 5 that is.
Coming from a Note 3 that I've had since it was released - the 4 is a very worthwhile upgrade. Very classy and fast as lightning running Sacs N5 2.1
Couldn't be happier.

I'd love to have the Note 5 for the fast wireless charging and MST for Samsung Pay. I have tons of free space on my 32 GB Note 4 with a 64 GB microSD. 20 GB free on the phone and 55 GB free on the microSD. I put everything on the cloud or on NAS. So microSD isn't a big deal for me. I'd be fine with a 64 GB Note 5. It would be nice to have a removable battery, but I can live without it.
To the OP...Im not trying to be a d here....But you know the saying.
I have messed with BOTH side by side. Took about 1 hour on my lunch break with a lady a coworker who just got the note 5 and i asked her to please lets check the differences. She was pissed off. The sprint rep said they were all out of note 4 she wanted the sd ir and battery being bigger and removable option. So being she wanted to know the difference too we had a group of us. We had people coming in and out of the breakroom. Asking randomly which screen looked better. Few said mine. Few said hers but most said same phones. Lol. Pics? Most were unable to tell. Granted we were inside it was well lit.
I wanted the note 5 to be so much more. But samsung really lost ground this year. The benchmarks are the only thing that stands out. That is all. Now add what it doesnt have? Its pure and simple the better choice however subjective.
Not to say I wont ever own one. I just cannot let marketing run my opinion. I am happy that you are happy and anyone that bought the phone. I can upgrade too and snag one for 200. Then 10 a month. But i really can not think of why i would pay for again for a lesser featured phone that offers way way way too close if not identical screens and cameras which are my focal points. Thats my thoughts.

Exactly. With the Note 4 being what it is and owning it still waiting for that right move to jump to a next phone... not knowing 2015 would be the year of Sh!t Smartphone releases. I don't know much about the LG world but just checked out the V10. Looks like everything Samsung should have done with the Note 5, but this will not be on Sprint? If so that really blows.
I personally am upgrading from a Nexus 5 mainly because I upgrade my phone every two years anyways.
I am also upgrading because of the abysmal battery life with the n5, and I want more speed and ram.
Plus, a better camera and better speakers will be very nice. How about you guys?
I'm upgrading from a Note 4...
1) the lag can be ridiculous and nothing I do resolves it
2) the updates take too damn long to trickle down with AT&T having to mess with the firmware before releasing
3) work app will only work on nexus phones because of requiring updates to be as soon as possible

Samsung galaxy note 2. I get my phones through work. This is a great benefit for someone with more kids than disposable income (and because I'm always on call)
Although the brass purchases nearly every new device for testing (we are a broadcast company with video app and lots of games), they frown upon replacing personal devices each year.
I've had my note 2 since it came out. And last year was the first year computer acquisitions was able to offer/get nexus devices. But the demand was so high, I was unable to get a quote for the nexus 6 till March!
By that time, I figured I'd wait another 6 months for the newest nexus device.
I'm a flashaholic, so I've been rocking lollipop or note4 on my note 2 for a bit, but pure nexus will sure be nice!

I'm upgrading from the Samsung S6 with Verizon. I really love the phone and I'm rooted. I'm stuck on an older version of lollipop just to keep root. I had a version of the phone with the latest update and no root and the phone suffered drastically.
I chose to get the nexus 6p because I love Android and I want to get updates immediately. I'm hoping that Huawei makes a splash with there first US released phone.

It's definitely good to have another OEM in the US market. Especially with HTC doing poorly lately.
Note 4 / LG g4
OnePlus One to the Nexus 6P, I had the Nexus 4 before the OnePlus One and found the dev support to be better on the Nexus 4. Also want front facing speakers and a better camera. Looking forward to this new phone

Coming from n5
Wanted bigger, better everything, and wouldn't own anything but a nexus device.
They are just too much fun!

One of my best friends had a OPO and he loved the specs/speed, but was annoyed by the software support so I can definitely see why you'd want to upgrade.
Hopefully this phone turns out to be rock solid.
Also, time to update your signature
Samsung sm-910a / NO ROOT ! And to try out project Fi.
I dropped my LG g2 a week ago at work slightly and a couple days later it stopped reading all Sim cards. Sucked because it had one of the best development communities I've ever been apart of and the phone had unbelievable battery life. Phone just turned 2 years old, so I guess it was time for an upgrade anyway. Now I just have an excuse.

Coming from the nexus 6.
Why? Because I get each nexus device on launch day, and have since the galaxy nexus.

So I assume you ordered the 5x as well?
I'm upgrading because I want to continue to enjoy the Nexus party on XDA! There's few rush's like it in Virtual reality ...

i'm coming from a tmobile galaxy s6 and i'm going to get the nexus 6p, but i want to wait a month or two to see how this snapdragon 810 performs in it. with the recent news of the xperia z5 heating up a lot even with sony putting in heat pipes and thermal pasting to try to keep it cool, i'm wondering how the 6p users will feel once they have it in hand and have a chance to work the soc.
