As you know, when Android L was first released Google added a "feature" that showed notifications on the unlock screen of your phone. This feature was controversial because it added an extra step to unlocking your phone. Even if you turned off the notifications feature you were still required to swipe up once to remove this screen before you got to the screen where you could input your pattern to unlock the phone. I am one of the many who detested this extra step and who downgraded or rommed their phones to remove it.
Did Motorola remove the extra unlock step in its stock ROM for the Moto X Play? Sorry to ask such a basic question, but I don't have physical access to the phone and will have to order it if I buy it. The extra swipe up is a deal breaker for me that I would prefer not finding out about the hard (and expensive!) way.
Cheers,
EJ

It's still there.
If you have pin unlock and unlock the phone with the button on the right. You will have to first swipe up and then input the code.
However, if you interact with the active display feature of Moto by swiping down, you will go directly to pin input screen.

Hi, I've seen a lot of video's out there that featured an unlock screen where you would drag your finger through some sort of square maze to unlock your screen. The pattern you need to make seems customizable.
Is there any way I can get this unlock screen in an 1.6 rom? It looks pretty cool!
Here is a screenshot of what I'm talking about:
http://www.droidnews.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/haptic_screen_unlock2.png
that is in all roms, goto setting then security, then set unlock pattern
Do'h.. just found it.. thanks.
I thought it was simply an unlock screen though, not a security measure..
Now I have to press menu as well as make a pattern to unlock.. not sure if this is what I want
Hey all,
One thing I've always wanted on android is the ability to slide-unlock, THEN to enter pattern/passcode/whatever.
Is there any way to do this? I found no way to do it in CM6. I'm now running MIUI and there's no way in this ROM either.
Is there some hack or software out there that will do this that I don't know of?
Have you tried downloading Widget locker from the market? That seems to be the most popular lockscreen replacement
No, there's no trial and I can't buy stuff off the market anyways. Does this allow for unlock->pass unlock?
From the screenshots it looks like it may.

just curios why do you want to unlock your phone twice?? ocd?
Haha no, I just like having a password on my phone and the lock screen with pattern lock is fugly. I don't want to see big dots all over my screen. I was able to fix this with CM6 by making it all invisible.
I sort of want it how the iphone does it, or how my buddies android 1.6 phone does it.

I actually really miss this function from my G1. Haha. I don't like the invisible buttons because it just makes the screen look absolutely empty. I would love a Unlock -> Password option.
Uhm, am I missing something or isn't that how it works by default? When I have a password or pin setup, and go to unlock my phone, I get the unlock screen. Once I've swiped to unlock, then I get the password/pin prompt. The only time it doesn't behave like that is when a pattern-unlock is being used.

Yep, I was. Makes no sense why you can't have this for pattern unlock as well!
I can't understand why anyone would want that!
It's one of the main reasons I don't like HTC sense roms - you can't get rid of the stupid unlock slider even when you have the pattern unlock enabled.
Why would I want to unlock it twice?!?
I want it because I frequently look at my phone for the time or for other various locked-screen uses, and it's aesthetically displeasing to look at it with the big bubbles all over the screen. Not to mention you lose the ability to slide to vibrate and that sorta stuff you get normally by default.
If you can't get WidgetLocker, try Simply Lockscreen. WidgetLocker looks way better, same with GoTo (but both are paid).
I am sure this has been dealt with, but I have tried so many searches and found nothing that could help me.
I cannot find any setting anywhere to keep the screen locked even when the keyboard slides out, and sometime sin my pocket the keyboard slides slightly but enough to turn the screen on and unlock the device.
What can I do? do I have to replace the basic lock app?
please point me in the direction of existing threads if you know of any or solutions.
cheers
grymcent
Yes I would like to know that
I solve it by also using pattern type screen lock (in security settings with immediate lock on after) thus even after sliding, the HTC default lock will be unlocked, but the pattern will be required to completely unlock the phone...
If I'm not mistaken, HTC designed the Desire Z and the G2 to unlock when the keyboard is opened. Naturally, on paper, this would make sense given that you could just slide the keyboard to go right to typing. However, as stated before, if you put the pattern lock, then it shouldn't be able to unlock even when you slide.
if you have a pattern or PIN lock it won't unlock when opened.
Now. There is a nice elegant solution that I didn't think of.
And there I was trying to be simple and all I needed waas added security, thanks guys.
Setting it up now
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA App
i find this more convenient this way as i can just slightly tilt the keyboard-screen flip to unlock the phone right away.
Replace your springs in the hinge so it will close tightly and not open in your pocket

Also, using pattern prevent accidental unlocks when the screen slides along some material that it respond to. I don't use the pattern for security but as additional screen lock because the default lock is just poor
So I set up a Pattern Lock. I really like it.
only issue is having to still do the slide down lock AND then the pattern lock.
I cannot find the setting to turn off the slide lock.
what have I missed?
If you rooted your phone and installed a ROM like Cyanogenmod ... you'd have the option to unlock by using the trackpad instead hitting the power button and then slide down to unlock.
I'm SO frustrated. The stock Marshmellow Lock Screen is terrible. One of the poor design points of Android for quite some time now. There are much better lock screens such as Microsoft Next, Hi Locker, etc. Some of which (like the ones mentioned) support fingerprint unlock.
The problem with the G6 is that it won't allow you to setup a fingerprint, WITHOUT enabling the system lock screen!
There's other apps that use fingerprint option, such as LastPass app. Can't use it unless you have System Lock screen enabled.
Pathetic

#1. Why are you on Marshmallow? Most G6's launched with 7.0
#2. I barley see my lockscreen. I just put my finger on the scanner and it unlocks. I don't see a point in having one anymore.

Especially with AOD the lock screen is very rarely seen. With knock on and the finger print scanner being very accurate on this device, I don't use the lock screen ever. I suppose if you use the swipe to unlock it's still relevant.

First the absence of a notification LED.... now this catastrophe!
Life's really tough.
Sorry I got my sweets all mixed up. I meant Nougat, not Marshmellow.
Everyone has different objectives of how they use their smartphone. For me, I'm not one to be using my phone frequently throughout the day. This is a key difference between me and a lot of typical users, especially the younger generation that is doing SMS/Facebook/Snapchat/Instagram/YouTube/Etc much of the day. I for one must have repeating sound alarms for missed SMS and phone calls as the LED indicator doesn't do any good when you aren't always glancing at your phone. I can leave it in another room for much of the day. So I guess I don't miss an LED indicator on my G6. (I use Prof Reminder app). When I do turn on my phone I want to see vital info right up front. That is:
- Text of missed SMS messages
- Missed phone calls
- Upcoming appointments for the next few days
- Weather for the next 3-5 days
I used to use C Locker which lets you put any widgets you want on the lock screen but I'm preferring the simplicity and look of MS Next Lock Screen now.
Anyhoo, my preference is to double tap screen to see my lock screen with all the info, then if I want to unlock, use the fingerprint sensor. The stock lock screen SUCKS.
The bottom line is that use of the fingerprint sensor should be independent of the lock screen setting. This would be like saying you can only use the home button with the stock home screen and couldn't use Nova Launcher.
Hi all of you
I got rooted exynos note4... i need fingerprint app for my lock screen. Which one do you prefer? And why.. it can be not only for lockscreen
I am running a Note 7 port on my Note 4 and I use AppLock.
I do not use it's lockscreen feature (it does have it included) because I think the Note 4's fingerprint reader is not well suited for unlocking the phone (IMO, because it can be tricky to unlock when handling the phone with one hand)
Instead, I have my lockscreen set to "swipe" so I can do basic stuff like switch the volume or turn toggles on and off at will, as well as double tapping the home button to open the camera from screen off phone.
I have most apps locked behind my fingerprint reader, that way nobody can open any app and a fingerprint lockscreen doesn't get in the way when I just want to mess with the volume or some basic stuff.
Applock also has a feature that it will only ask for your fingerprint once per unlock (until you turn your screen off), so that way you don't have to swipe your finger every single time you open an app (PRO version, not expensive at all)
Another reason that 3rd party lockscreens aren't that great are because:
1. Not all of them will allow you to use the screen off memo, I think Hi Unlocker doesn't let you use the screen off memo unless you unlock it with fingerprint, which can get annoying
2. There is no 3rd party lockscreen (to my knowledge) that will allow you to double tap home to open the camera app. All of them WILL require you to unlock it with the finger-print or turn the screen on and then swipe the camera shortcut. To me, this is a deal breaker since I take a lot of photos, most of the time to things that happen pretty fast and losing a couple of seconds to unlock the phone and/or swipe the camera option builds up and gets annoying.
But overall, the most used (that I've seen) is AppLock and Hi Unlocker.
Good luck, both are free to try anyway so I'd test them both to see which is to your liking
