Questions about standby mode

I may have asked this before, but I'm not sure.
My A500 has a custom ROM on it, but its had this problem on multiple roms. I haven't tried on stock yet, but that's probably my next step. Anyways, here are my questions:
- How long can you usually leave your A500 in standby mode and still wake it up?
- Is there a way to manually put the tablet into sleep mode?
When I first got it, I remember leaving my A500 in standby mode (it should automatically go into standby when you idle, right?) and being able to wake it by hitting the power button almost a day later. Now I can only do it for a few hours and then it won't come out of sleep. I'll have to turn it off by holding the power button down (even though there is no indication that it is turning off), then I can turn it on again. Sometimes my battery will be depleted, apparently indicating that it did not properly go into sleep mode?

Usually I can leave it in sleep mode for well over a day, and it still wakes.
Press the PWR button will put it to sleep.
I would guess, the problem is Kernel related. This sometimes happens with kernels that supply Over/Under voltage. Usually for overclocking. Most of the newer kernels walk a fine line with trying to get maximum battery life, and your tab may suffer "the sleep of death" and require a hard re-boot.
I would advise one of the older kernels, like RTrips 3.4+ or Thors 3.7. Try to stay away from the most recent kernels.
Also, a few of the custom 500 roms, are really "cooked". Lots of changes to the rom itself.
You may want to try a lightly stock rom with a lower version kernel. This will fix the sleep of death issue.
As with your battery, the usual stuff like wifi/gps on, notifications, syncs, these all cause battery drain.
I leave my wifi on, but my syncs are set to every hour. Mail, Sms, and FB (silent). GPS is hard set to off. Widget refreshes also are 4 hrs.
I lose maybe 6% or so overnight.

All of the above is true there is one more issue that can occur . Google backup and restore.a bad app that you keep getting restored by the above.
if all else fails you can try the fallowing..
download a near stock rom.. with STOCK Kernel .
in cwm
of course wipe all
format all..
flash rom..
wipe all again.. (you know all of that)
if im having a app issue.. to find the app.
when your tablet boots the first time.. when you get to setting up your google account.. untick the boxes for backup and restore of data.. then install your apps one at a time back . to see what app is causing the trouble.. Of COURSE this all only applies if the rom flash does not work.. google often puts the problem back.. Ti backup will do the same .. put issues back.. Trial and Error is only way to solve this issue. ITS THE ONE MOST COMMON AND MOST TALKED ABOUT ISSUE WITH not only our tablet but all of android devices..

Thanks to both of you. I needed reassurance that my tablet wasn't just messed up. I have a warranty on it and was thinking about getting it replaced and seeing how the new one behaved, but I'll try the suggestions. I'll probably try to reload my ROM after formatting and start with just the base apps and add one at a time as you suggested. If that doesn't work, I'll try a different kernel or ROM with a different kernel. I've already tried not using SetCPU to under/overclock, but that didn't work. Thanks again!

Another (relatively rare) issue is that the kernel you're using actually is flawed and fails to wake the GPU after it went to sleep (this may be a lot later than the device itself, depending on background services!). In this case using a different kernel will solve the issue (stock kernel is works).
EDIT: Posted at the same time... By all means try another kernel, this is a known evil with custom ones.

Okay, so I've tried installing the stock, rooted 3.2 ROM which uses the stock kernel. Did not restore any apps from Google Backup. Still getting the same issue. Does this point to a hardware issue? I have a warranty on this tablet, so I want to know if I should try trading it in.

OK, before you take your tab back, personally, I wouldn't worry about it.
I have noticed, on some occassions, (yes, I do run stock rooted on occasion), that sometimes, the tab will get what we call the sleep of death. And usually, this may occur over a long period of time. Also, sometimes, I have to hit the pwr button several times, before it wakes.
+1 with the PP on overclocked kernels. This happens with the most recent ones.
Fortunately, System Tuner Pro, will increase MB voltages, so you don't get this.
If it does it again, and you are on stock, try to press the pwr button several times.

Mine has never worked on any rom with any configuration. Turning off wifi helps sometimes.

Backlight notification (BLN) issue

I found a bug about BLN.
My phone gets freeze when i have more than one missing calls. Somebody gave me two or more calls while i didn't notice my phone. When i noticed it, i can't switch on the phone but doing a battery pull.
It's not related to other mods such as BLD, TW, too low min cpu freq, live OC, deep idle and undervolted. Because i've switched all options on and off respectively under the same scenario when the problem occurred.
Finally i turned off the Blink Status (status can be switched on though), my phone can be able to have more than one missing calls without the problem.
My settings are as follows:
ROM: IMM26 4.0.4 port form ns4g by evilisto
Kernel: Air Kernel v3.4.5
Maybe some devs can solve the problem

I can also confirm something similar like this. Also AirKernel v3.4.5, 4.0.4 PixelRom (even tho I think I had this on 4.0.3 roms, too). Buttons blink, but can't turn on my screen. Even music went till the end of song, didn't go to next song, and then I removed battery. No LiveOC nor OC, no DeepIdle...

Left 3 missed calls in my cellphone, buttons blink as they should, and phone wakes up as it should.
BLN Pro, but didn't happen in the free version either.

[Q] Troubleshoot shutdown on 4.3/4.4 based roms

My phone shuts down on 4.3 and 4.4 based roms.
It happens much less often on 4.2 and stock based roms.
It seems to happen when the screen is off. It doesn't shut down when I'm in the middle of doing something. I've seen that on other phones.
If the screen is off, but I'm listening to the music player or Pandora, it does not shut down.
It does not seem to be overheating.
I'm on my 3rd sim card in 2 months and my second class 4 SD card. I only bought a new one b/c used the one from my old phone and thought it was best to start fresh.
Currently I'm running the first CM11, but this has been happening on CM 10.2, AOKP, and a variety of other roms.
My recovery is TWRP 2.6.3.0
I use the regular GAPPS, not PaGAPPS and the appropriate GAPPS for the given AOSP base; 4.2/3/4
I flash SuperSu-v1.65 after a full wipe when installing new roms.
The current apps I have installed in addition to what comes with CM are:

I know that logcats are good for tracking down errors for apps that FC, though I don't know yet how to read logs.
Is there an app I can use that can show me activity before the last shutdown?
How can I track down what's causing it?

Sounds like S.O.D's (sleep of death). It's a kernel problem and I believe they're cause by qcom's hot plugging. You could rename MPdecision to MPdecision.bak and reboot. That will keep the second core on and it should help. I used to get them as well until I updated to the two latest updates. But SOD's are a well known issue with the RAZR M.

What functionality do I lose by "disabling" it?
If it keeps the second core on, does that have a significant impact on battery life?
Does the governor have any impact on that?
Would other kernels make a difference?

MPdecision is qcomm's hot plugging service that keeps the second core off when its not needed by the system and turns it on when it is needed. By disabling MPdecision, you'll have better performance and slightly higher battery usage, but it's not very noticeable (battery usage will very on how you use your phone). Governor's have no impact on SOD's and all kernels for the Razr M are basically the same either stock or CM's both use the same MPdecision (which I believe to be the problem).
I could be totally wrong and you could have a hardware / software problem. But I know that when I was having this issue, I disabled MPdecision and the SOD's stopped.

I had read that the SOD had been reported elsewhere, but never saw any solutions. Just lots of folks replacing their phones.
I haven't had one in the last 24 hrs on the 12/08 CM nightly and flashed the 12/09 this morning.
I also made the MPdecisions change. We'll see if it sticks. I assume since it's a system file, I'll have to make the change every time I flash a new nightly or or new rom, but that's not a big deal.
Oh, and yes SOD is probably more accurate than "shutdown" because I've noticed that the led will flash if I've received a message, but I can't revive the phone, so obviously it's not complete shut down.

I hate to jynx myself, butthis seems to have done the trick. Only had 1 or 2 BSOD since your response and I think both times were because I forgot to make the change after flashing a new rom.

This thread may have saved my phone. I keep waking up to find my phone with a blinking LED notification and me being unable to get the screen to turn on. I renamed the MPdecision file and I'll hope for the best. (^^)

[Q] What dash installation ROM?

Currently running timurs rom but it crashes a lot. Are there other roms that allow fast charge, sleep/wake with power, on screen volume etc.

I've been running Timur's ROM as well and I really want an alternative as well as I've been facing issues with the ROM, and it looks like Timur has discontinued development on the 2012 model.
From what I've seen so far though CM11 should support USB DACs so I'm keen to try that out.
Some notes:
Fast charge - that's a kernel setting so any custom kernel should allow that.
Sleep/Wake on power - After many months of usage, sleep or even firm sleep has been a hit or miss for me. When it works, it works really well but sometimes a some random app might cause a wakelock, draining the battery. Even otherwise, there are many other issues such as USB audio doesn't resume. Plus the battery tends to drains quicker + looses health because of being in a hot car.
So instead, what I'm planning to do, is to just completely shutdown/boot up a tablet on power. Some notes:
- Bootup time is fairly quick - about 30 seconds, upto a minute, which is acceptable for me. You can reduce the startup time even further by using apps like BootManager to prevent unnecessary apps from starting up. Perhaps we can slim down the ROM further by deleting unnecessary apks etc.
- Fresh start is always a better option - you don't want your tablet to crash while driving right? I've had to reboot many times before or during driving, and it annoys me to say the least.
- USB audio always works fine when booted (well, with Timur's ROM anyways, need to test with CM11/others)
- No battery drain due to device standby or wakelocks
- No overheating and loss of battery health
- For shutdown on power loss, we can use Tasker. Maybe make a script to first turn the screen off, and after say 10 minutes of idle turn off the device completely (this will give us a chance to resume quickly in case we stopped the car for some reason).
- For startup on power, we can use the fastboot oem command to make the device automatically power up
On-Screen Volume: From daily usage, this hasn't been very practical in reality. I mean if you're driving, you really shouldn't be looking at the screen and trying to aim at the tiny buttons. Instead, a better option would be to use gestures to control the volume. There are heaps of apps for this, eg: All In One Gestures, Tasker, Gesture Navigation, GMD GestureControl, etc. You could use a single-swipe down and swipe-up to increase the volume up/down. Swipe left/right to change tracks. Two finger swipes to switch between apps. Just use your imagniation.
Might seem like a lot of work initially, but IMHO it'll be worth it, at least to get a stable ROM which is updated regularly (not to mention, you get to use the newest GApps!).
My only concern is to get the DAC working on startup. Might have to look into Timur's startup scripts to see how he does it - maybe even port the FHD scripts over to 2012 if necessary.

Use a kernel tweaking app, like TricksterMod.

ok downloaded that and it means nothing to me im afraid. how would i turn on fast charge for example or OTG host mode, firm sleep etc ?
only thing i can find where i assume you can set things is the " SysCtrl Editor" but it jsut comes up with a huge list of stuff that i have no idea about.
i assume i need to find fast charge in sysctrl and change it from 0 to 1... but cant find anything under the search. not a clue what id be looking for
starting to think Timurs rom was simple compared to this. haha

You have to install it. Copy it to your device and then use a file manager to open and install it. It will create an icon in your drawer. When you open it, you'll have options to configure firm-sleep etc.

Done. Worked at first but now I've reverted to timurs rom. The tablet froze loads. Wouldnt open some apps at all and power on/off with ignition wasn't reliable. Sometimes it woke, sometimes it didnt. Will give it another go when i habe more time i think.

On a related note, I haven't had much luck with getting my DAC to work with other ROMs - even with Kang-aroo kernel. I'll have to try CM11 with _crue_'s USB audio patches and Netfluke's kernel this weekend and see how it goes.
Edit: No luck. Maybe because it's I'm on tilapia. Even with cm11, Netfluke's latest kernel, and _crue_'s updated audio patches for cm11, couldn't get it to work. And it's a Fiio E17, which I've had no issues with on Timur's ROM.
And no, I'm not going back to Timur's CM10 - it's old. I can't use any of the newer GApps on it, and the ROM is buggy.
I think I'll swap my tilapia with my 2013 deb and use that as a car device instead. It looks like Timur just updated his kernel to v1.0 which fixes a lot of bugs - at least it's being actively developed. As for my tilapia, I'll switch to a more stable/mainstream ROM like Omni and forget about USB audio for now.

G2 D800 Lagging, running absurdly slow?

Hi, so I've had my G2 D800 model for a while (about a year or two), and for the most part, it's been an excellent phone despite being 3 years old now. Never had any slowdown problems, and it's always performed well in games and in general.
But just recently, about a week ago, it just started lagging out and being very, very slow.
For example, if I'm watching a YT video through the app, if I rotate the screen, it takes maybe 5-8 seconds to actually rotate. Also, in a lot of circumstances where the keyboard has to pop up, it just freezes the app until the keyboard pops up maybe 10 seconds later.
It's also just laggier in general in most apps, scrolling through FB or Twitter freezes nearly every second when I'm scrolling. It's generally unresponsive and sometimes just freezes outright. It also acts this way on the homescreen, and in most everything else.
The most annoying part, however, is that sometimes the devices just doesn't turn on for sometimes up to 15 seconds after pushing the power button (and it usually just refuses to turn on when using my knock code).
The odd part, however, is that once it's actually in something like a game, it performs perfectly fine.
I've played a number of Cardboard games, as well as games like Nova 3, and it performs perfectly.
I've also ran multiple benchmarks (Geekbench, 3DMark, etc), and it scores around where it should.
Info about the device:
LG G2 D800
Stock Lollipop 5.0.2
Software Ver. D80030f
Kernel Ver. 3.4.0
Rooted
TWRP Recovery installed
XPosed Lollipop installed
G3 Tweaks installed, a number of tweaks applied
Everything else is stock (homescreen, etc)
What I've tried/checked:
Checked memory usage during "lag sessions", rarely dips below 300mb free
Changing minfree values through Rom Toolbox (tried every preset, as well as setting everything to the max to free as much as possible)
Rebooting (affects nothing)
Checked CPU speed with Rom Toolbox (is at max, and does achieve the max speed of 2265 MHz. Setting it to performance mode/setting the min speed to be 2265 MHz has no effect, but reduces battery time)
Changed default cache sizr (tried every preset from 128kb to 4096kb. With multiple benchmarks, the optimal value for r/w bounced between 512kb and 4096kb, currently on 4096)
Things I have not tried (that I am aware would possibly have an affect):
Changing anything in the kernel tweaks/build.prop
Completely wiping, reformatting, and reinstalling (I really would rather avoid this if possible, as it would take a while to get everything back to what it is now, and it was a pain to upgrade to Lollipop in the first place)
I am unaware of anything else I could try to fix it, which is why I'm here
So, does anyone know of any other solutions or things to try? This has made my phone very unreliable, even for phone calls and messages, which is a problem.

I'll try out greenify, though there aren't many unnecessary apps running (i uninstalled all the bloatware first thing, when I rooted).
And about the custom kernel, it's something I've never tried, so I have a couple questions.
Will it wipe my device, or break TWRP, root, or Xposed? (Sorry, didn't see the answer on that forum)
Will a TWRP backup I make be able to fully restore my device to it's current condition?
Is everything that is supported on my device be supported with that kernel? (Apps, etc. Don't know a whole lot about how kernels work, so I don't know)

Hi,
Even you uninstalled bloatware, the apps you use daily could be running in background and taking all those rams. So whenever you play a game or dont use a certain app, just go to greenify and hibernate. Since you have xposed installed, you can do more than that such as u can stop sync , etc.
About the kernel, it has a ram management settings and cron task.
Ram management dont need to be altered. It has some preset profile so if you seek performance, just choose performance or if u need battery , select battery profile etc.
Cron task is useful because it will do alot of things automatically. For example, it will release ram at certain amount of time from the apps , it will restart google play service since that could be an issue , etc.
All you need to do is take a nandroid backup just to be safe. Then download Dorimanx Ota from playstore and it will detect ur device and show u which version of kernel is available. Then download that, go to recovery, flash it, and you will see three app installed : Synapse -- will give you all the details of ur setup including cpu speed, temp etc for monitoring purposes
Dorimanx settings - this is the main settings of the kernel. You will see a P icon on top, tap it and choose your desired profile.
Color management : It is as the title says, just leave it be.
Then use your device, check your ram and report back. Hopefully it will resolve your issue.

Wow. Dorimanx did a lot more than I was expecting.
Downloaded the app, downloaded the kernel, flashed it no problem, went through and checked out synapse.
Went into the Dorimanx settings, and set it to the "Performance" profile.
Immediate improvement.
The whole phone seems a lot more snappy, and I switched back and forth between a 1080p60 YT video, facebook, and twitter with absolutely no problem.
Free memory when idle (no apps open) stays around 1gb; it used to be about 500mb before.
Tested a few games for the heck of it, and it actually seems to have improved game performance somehow. (It seems to have overclocked my CPU to 2.5ghz, though, so that makes sense.)
Temps stayed at around 58-60c while running a few Cardboard apps, so it seems fine.
