Will galaxy s4 any variant will receive an official android m update?
Hi,
According to https://www.androidpit.com/android-m-phone-update-news
it seems that no for now. I think Samsung's economic strategy is to sell its new models and therefore prefer to push users to change device rather than update the old ones.
Surely Cyanogen should give us M base, but Stock i stay skeptical...

Buy a new phone to get Android M. Older models will not get it.
There will probably be ports for touchwiz m.
I don't think so, stock roms stopped at 5.0.1, but always will be cyanogenmod

Is our i9301i device gets the Android 5.0 update from Samsung?
Sorry for my ****ing English ...
It is highly possible that we will get update to 5.0. I beleive we will get update since we have same soc as moto g that is officialli supported by google , it wont be hard to port it to our device. If samsung doesnt do that there is always CM 12

Thank you very much for the quick reply.
I have another question: Your cyanogenmod project for our device has Hebrew language? (That the i9300 has Hebrew).
They might update it, seeing as it's a new phone carrying the flagship name. It would seem pointless to release an "improved" model of the S3, only to abandon it 7 months later. Then again, this is Samsung we're talking about, so they might just release an S4 Neo with 5.0 instead.
Everything is possible!!!
Hope to get our cure for this devices. I think with official 5.0 L, the device will run more smoothly. Who knows - may be only Samsung. We must pray to get official announcement!
i dont think so bcz the reason behind 4.4.4 is neo was released after s3 so they give official update to s3 neo not to s3.
If samsung left this phone with out update for 5.0 this will be my last samsung phone.

I hope this isn't going to happen. I think to send email to sLamsung to doing something about their product.
I am disappointed.
I installed CM12 On my galaxy s3 neo I9301I and got i problem of no data connection and no wifi connection at all. I spent 48 hours in frustration. I had my nandroid backup but when i tried to back that up, i was stucked, all apps were stoped. Then i tried my level best to find the solution. Unfortunately, my mobile baseband is I9301IXXUANF2 and there is no proper single stock firmware for this baseband at all. Then i made my account here and ask for help to a member. He helped me to solve my problem but all in vain. After that i download a firmware of baseband I9301IXXUANH2 for region Pakistan. Luckily that is for 3 variants including mine. Now my problem is solved.
Please do some thing to improve CM12. I love it's UI and speed but due to those problems i am not able to enjoy that.
I am from Pakistan.
And hey guys is there any difference between baseband and build number? After flashing my mobile is showing baseband I9301IXXUANF2 and build number I9301IXXUANH2, is it fine??????
I have a Samsung S4 and the device model name is SM-S975L. My problem is that all accessories and even firmware updates are for other device models so I am confused as to which accessories will fit (cases) or even what firmware update will work or if there is even a firmware update available for my phone.
I have looked at wireless charging attachments for the phone but again these are for the same phone but have different device numbers.
As a noob, I think different carriers have different device model numbers yet the phones are the same (Galaxy S4) but would the shape differ in anyway even if only slightly?
Which model will be the closest to the SM-S975L or does it really not matter?
Thanks in advance.
Any standard S4 accessory, e.g. cases, will fit your device. Firmware is another matter. You have a Straight Talk S4, and Straight Talk does not provide ROM updates. If you want to update your device to the latest version of Android you'll have to root and install a custom ROM. There is a thread on your device in these forums. Take a look for it and read up.
Since I just got A S4 I have some questions. I mainly am used to nexus/moto devices in terms of roms/etc, and I know the process is entirely different with the S4.
The model is a AT&T S4. Updated to 5.0.1
I know I won't be able to unlock the bootloader, which is okay as long as I CAN have some hopes of running another firmware on it.
All I require is Root/Xposed, and maybe CM13..or any other android 6.0 based ROM. How feasible are my options? I won't know until I physically have it, but what should I look out for in terms of firmware/bootloader codes?
You cannot run any custom ROM unless the rom is based on a Samsung kernel which means no cm or aosp ROMs.

that sucks. Guess I will sell it for a bit higher than I bought it and grab something else. Thank you.
I have an s4 (Canadian version, i337m) which doesn't have a locked bootloader and I find the phone okay with stock unrooted LP. I used to based my phone decisions on whether there was an XDA forum but my flashaholic days are behind me
What is the highest android version that shipped on new S5. Is it KK 4.4.2?
Trying to buy new S5, but many sellers are selling used/refurbished phones as new, so figure what version OS it is running can help me figure out if phone is actually new.

The last stock update for the S5 was 6.0.1. The S5 has been out since 2014. You will probably not find a new S5, which is why they say used/refurbished. Most places selling an S5 will update them before shipping anyway(anyone can update an S5, they just need a computer and a usb cable). If you get a phone higher than 6.0.1, it may have some sort of custom rom installed on it.
Hi all,
It's been a long, long while since I tinkered with roms, I think my last one was either a Samsung Galaxy Tab (the original one!) or an HTC Sensation.
So I've recently acquired a Note 4 n910F and can't stand all of the Samsung bloatware, and I'd like a newer version of android for compatibility with newer apps.
So remind me... What does 'stock' mean? Is this as Samsung intended, or as android intended? I'd just like a vanilla as possible android experience that works well.
Help please!

Hey! I don't know if you've already found your answers but I thought I would respond in case you haven't.
In almost every reference you see in this section of xda "stock" is referring to the TouchWiz OS that Samsung phones are shipped with.
True android stock is referred to as "vanilla" like you said.
I use a different model Note 4 than you have but from what I've read it's fairly easy to flash TWRP (custom recovery) on the F model via Odin and from there you can pick from whichever rom suits you. Just be sure you're in the Snapdragon section. There are many different models of the Note 4 and some of them have a different processor called Exynos. The roms are processor specific and you can only use the ones built for your type which is the Snapdragon processor.
One other thing I wound suggest, because of the different variants of the F model, is to take notice of your CSC code. Once you start flashing other roms it may be hard to track down the original code. Use this app to see what it is and that way you can flash the appropriate modem file (or if you need to reflash your stock firmware) instead of just using whichever modem file is provided in the OP of the rom you're flashing. There are many different variants of the F model with many different country codes, just remember that just because the firmware has a newer release date doesn't mean it's the correct version.

Fantastic response, thank you. I think I'd like to do without TouchWiz... Pretty much all of my previous phones have been HTC, which either had the HTC skin over it, which was fairly unobtrusive, or barely anything at all. The current version of android and TW on the note 4 is messy.
