While other Note5 variants have recieved root/recovery methods, once again Verizon models seem to have been left in the dust.
I dont know about you guys, but I have owned the Note5 since launch, and have been actively checking multiple forums, Waiting for root and possibly a new recovery! I would love to see CM on my phone some day. I know for a fact a few of my friends would be happy to pledge a few dollars each, to the person who can provide a method.
Personally i would like to pledge $10.00 USD to the person who can bring us an easy root/recovery for this device.
I will talk with my group of friends, and see if i can take up a bit more. (im not super rich)
My hope is that this will steamroll with the people on the same system as I, and we can get a few more pledges.
The parameters for the mission:
-Be the first person to create or find a method to achieve the following:
-Successfully obtain Root access from a fully stock SM N920V Note5 Verizon Variant
-Make a post in this thread with Screenshots/photos
-provide full step by step instructions that anyone else reading the forum can follow
-Wait for atleast one member to follow the same method and confirm it works as described on their fully stock device with the SM N920V build.
-Claim your bounty via PM from the pledger(s)
Payment will be processed between each member and the bounty collector via PM on an individual basis.
If you would like to make a pledge, Please make a post in this thread, and make the subject line the amount you would like to pledge.
A huge thank you in advance, from myself, and all the patrons who have dedicated a few dollars to the cause, this means more to us than.... well chances are if you are developing the method, you know how much it means to the community.
If you are a developer, please contact me with details or updates about progress, if you are working on this project.
Additionally, please feel free to post some information about the progress, the community would love to know!

Not to be a party pooper but hasn't it been said that if the note 5 Verizon and AT&T will go into a bootloop intentionally if rooted?

All things are possible, such as removing the devices capability to detect root. There just has to be a person to take on the challenge, and reverse engineer or work around the code. Androids Open source nature should play to someones benefit! The terms they use are root prevention. Preventions were meant to be bypassed. if the device shows a black screen and says " device is rooted... etc" then obviously the root has worked, now how do we get past that? Im no programmer/coderninja, but any good ideas from those who are are more than welcome on this thread. Knowledge is power.
Please make sure people see this, if we can gain enough of a following, it will attract the right people for the job!
Thank you all for showing support in this cause thus far. Im updating the thread with pledges now.

I'd also like to put 20 dollars toward this but it has to be permaroot ill put down 10$ for anything removed by reboot. the note 5 is so close to a perfect phone that not having root annoys me so much. Having ad away and drive droid and the multitude of other features that i have grown accustomed to would make this phone perfect.
If it's for at&t as well, I got 20 on it

Thanks for the support thus far guys, Be sure to share it with people you know to have a better chance of making this happen and attracting the right hacker
$20 here.
Throwing $20 pledge unto the pile. How much do you think it'll take to get the right hacker interested?
Roger that!
edit: nevermind, i'll pledge $10 for now, i'd like to see if we can get a full root (preferably that doesn't trip KNOX)
You guys are nuts! You honestly think anybody is going to waste their time and efforts on a "dead" phone for 10 and 20 bucks? What are you, 12? At the very best, whoever takes on this project will render their $700 phone useless through trial and error and may need to go through multiple phones to get it right. It'll probably take the right guy at least a few grand. Nobody is willing to go through that for 10 and 20 bucks, and there aren't enough of us to build up the money we need if we're only pledging $10 . If you REALLY want results, you're going to need to up your ante. I will pledge $500 myself, but that's still not going to cut it. Whoever takes on this project needs at the very least the price of the phone.. Start adding zeros to your numbers people!

Not just money bro. ..you also get bragging rights. ..I remember when the s3 got finally rooted. .he became over night celebrity. .then you have j case who rooted the black phone in under 5 minutes. .that was the phone they claim could not be rooted. ..I understand your point ..but with enough donation we can get our goal. ..it will take time....for now adguard is your best friend, haven't even missed root.

There are lots of issues that we as a community would like to get worked out, but without the developers and their awesome skillz, we wouldnt be where we are today. Help them pay some bills by pledging to give a few bucks for projects you would like to see completed. After a dev has completed a task, a paypal link for them will be posted by whatever they completed.
I am not taking responsibility for handling money, all money will go straight to the developers own paypal account. Please only post honest pledges, we want the devs to get what the earned in the end.
Current tasks:
30FPS Fix - $5,$10,$10,$20=$45
Nandroid backup error after nand unlock - $5
Add more or add to the bounties by posting your pledges below.
I pledge $5 to both the 30FPS fix and getting nandroid to work after nand unlocking(if this is actually an issue and not just something i failed at )
For me, ii believe that whoever comes up with a fix to the 30 fps should be greatly rewarded, i pledge $10 for this fix
10$ 30 fps fix
20$ 30FPS Fix
I dont believe that we should be publicly posting bounties, because it will only cause developers to hide and new ideas that may arise that would allow others to expedite the fixes.
I do believe that that whoever does deserve alot, and whoever feels like donating should.
Just my 2 cents

Thats the thing man. I feel like NONE of the Devs are paying attetion to this. God knows why and excuse my ignorance if its because of something big, but I haven't seen one Dev look up at this. So, who should I give my money to? When someone shows me results, I'll show my money.
Moved as not development.
How about a bounty for a "roam only" easy fix?
I'd pay $5
I could probably make a bounty page using paypal.
Money could be return at request, etc.
My only worry is I think Paypal charges a fee to return money after X days.
If anyone knows a good vendor with a decent API, I could program something like this.
$10 - 30 fps fix

I'm a dev who's been working on the 30fps issue as well as trying to figure out if it's directly linked to the input lag or not. It's not looking too good so far, but thanks for this thread. This will be a bit of incentive for us to get down and dirty with this and work a bit harder.
I probably won't figure it out first, so add $10 to the pool from me. If I figure it out, I'll paypal myself $10 I guess.

2. Clockwork Recovery
I will donate to them through paypal. Custom roms will come with time, only the full root and clockwork are required for the rest of us to start playing

Thanks for the recovery and Download Mode info. I have 3 versions of Odin and non pull the dump but all see the phone but assign 0 as an id which is odd as the epic gets anywhere usually from a 7 to 14 then the port number. Anyhow. version 1.67 doesnt open the dump id option nor does it offer the nand dump option as does the 1.3 versions. But those are all tested on the epic not sure if they apply here. I have not had the time to read thru all these threads so a cheat sheet would be greatly appreciated here.
Any more information is very much appreciated. Remember this is to BENEFIT you all.
I do not own one of these phone never plan on it and am here to merely help. Shabby "an ACSyndicate top dev" will be the one collecting the bounty and anyone he decides to bring in on it. How To ROOT your DROID Maxx, Ultra, and Mini:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2442585
im loving the potential of these devices. Personally I have the Maxx but no root is killing me, so since I don't have the skill to develop a root method I'm starting a root bounty to try to do my part.
Requirements To Claim Bounty:
- Working root access and superuser app on all 3 new Droids that survives rebooting.
- Method can be documented with a step-by-step walkthrough, and replicated.
- Make a post in this thread with the above mentioned walkthrough.
- Verified by at least 1 other member with 10+ posts.
Payment System:
Payment will be processed between each member and the bounty collector via PM on an individual basis. But, proactive donation is HIGHLY encourage!
Bounty Rules:
- Please keep all conversation constructive.
- Please keep conversation about the bounty on this thread, at least for the time being, if this topic takes of and the thread becomes cluttered I will start a separate thread, place a link here, and edit this rule accordingly.
- Please note you may not make any specific restrictions or requirements that aren't listed in the OP. By making a post with your contribution price you are agreeing to paying out based on all terms listed in OP only and nowhere else.
- Please note once you make a post with your contribution you may not withdraw it at any time and are responsible for paying out once the bounty is claimed. The only changes that can be made are another post raising the prices if you choose so. Please make sure you read everything carefully. No exceptions!
- Please be advised that this is for the bootloader locked carrier verisons, so if Motorola is to release a Developer Edition of any of these devices, thus allowing root via an unlocked bootloader flashable kernel (or any method requiring unlock for that matter), this will not qualify as as a valid method for claiming the bounty.
However, if a bootloader unlock exploit/method is found this that works on these devices without root access and root is then achieved, that WILL qualify.
- FIRST PERSON TO POST THE METHOD HERE IS INTITLED TO THE BOUNTY! That persons username will be added to the top OP once the method is verified.
If anyone has anything else that I should add to make this work just post a reply and I'll edit the op.
I'm starting with a pledge of $30.
If I can afford more I'll bump it when I can.
Moderators, if I'm doing something outside the rule with this post plz let me know.
also, i would like to thank "open1your1eyes0" as I have structured this bounty after the S4 unlock bounty, and even borrowed so phrasing as think it was done very well
Thank you all for your contributions. The donation list will be updated nightly (I work during the day), please let me know via pm if i missed missed your pledge or made an error updating the list. I will now be including an update date/time for reference.

Yea I'm lost, I thought the payout was done on an honor system once the goal was achieved, by the achiever contacting the pledgers directly. I'm going off of how the s4 unlock bounty was set up, is that not the norm?
Edit: so just to clarify the above it what I had in mind. I was NOT requesting to hold the funds on have anyone submit payment untill the goal is achieved.
Edit 2: I edited OP to more clearly state my original idea for the bounty. For the previous posters if you are not comfortable with the payment method feel free to edit you posts to remove your pledge. I apologize for not making the OP more clear at first but I believe this method protects the pledgers and dev the best. This is a community for help each other so I don't think to many people will have an issue paying out there pledge if the bounty is claimed.
I'll update the donation list every day or two if this picks up steam.

Hello everyone,
I am creating this thread on behalf of @RaymanFX , a recognized developer who needs a device to develop for us.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3463426
He is looking to develop for the P600, WiFi only model and is looking to make AOSP/CM roms and kernels for us.
Here is a previous thread of his: http://forum.xda-developers.com/find-7/orig-development/rom-teameos-revival-nightlies-t2826587
And here is a list of previous threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=319162976
Quote by RaymanFX:
most of you probably don't know me since I did not develop for Samsung devices for quite some time now.
I would be interested in aiding the Exynos 5420 development scene (in particular on the Galaxy Note 10.1) and prepare a custom Android distribution for it (Team EOS 5.0 - Lollipop).
I can get all the required drivers and binaries I need for development, since most of it is open source luckily.
And the Nexus 10 (manta) can still be used as reference for many things.
All I need is a development device to debug on.
It is particularly important that this is the Galaxy Note 10.1 EXYNOS (WiFi-only variant), and not the LTE (Qualcomm) variant.
I created this thread to ask whether someone has a spare device lying around, maybe because of the little development on Exynos 5 devices, or if people would be willing to donate a device (I'm a university student and unfortunately can not afford the full price for a new device. I'm willing to dive into the Exynos development scene and spend time on this device though, including extensive debugging).
Thank you two for your reasonable thoughts.
I think the main reason why the previous developers stopped developing for this device rather quickly is the Exynos chip.
The main difference between me and anyone else is (or so I believe) the fact that I am especially interested in developing for the Exynos 5420 chip and the drivers for it (mainly from the Insignal forum source).
As far as bricked devices, I can say I had a Samsung device before, and as long as the bootloader is unlockable and access to ODIN (The firmware flashing tool) is granted, a hard brick is rather hard to achieve. I see little risk here, and I assume my previous development experience will prevent me from making major mistakes in that regard.
A new device would cost me approximately 350€, so if we could collect about 300$ with donations (which would equal something like 270€), I'd pay the remaining costs.
People are of course free to check my development history and/or references first and see if they think I would benefit the aosp development scene for this device.
The ROM I mentioned (Team EOS 5.0 lollipop) is essentially AOSP 5.0 with selected features that we code ourselves, like EOS Weather, or the NX gesture interface.
If people however see the need for an official CM maintainer, I'd be happy to become this as well, all I need is a device to debug and develop on, I'd be willing to spend the time to officially maintain this device.
Other developers and/or contributors should also expect support from me in areas of kernel development or AOSP custom ROM development. I believe in 'sharing is caring', so all my knowledge and achievements on this device shall benefit the community.
If some of you could maybe contact the people who raised donations before, I'd be thankful and gratious for the support. All donations will be listed here and the whole process shall be as transparent as possible.

He is very committed to getting this device and developing for us so let's get him this device. He needs at least $300 so just write below how much you would be willing to donate if the funds were raised for the device. I will update this post with the names and how much people are willing to donate :good:
If at least 30 people donate say $10 for example then we can do this easily. I pledge $10 dollars so lets get this started!!

$20 is perfect, any donations are helpful
Yes PayPal. If you look at his profile there's a link there. I'll add your name to the list :good:
Alright, I've just donated 20€ (which equals ~25$ if I'm not mistaken). It would be great, if @RaymanFX confirmed the transaction (I've refered to XDA in the transaction note, but if you need the transaction ID, write me a PN)
PS: I know I said I'd donate 20$, but I figured since he's german, I could just as well donate 20€ instead :highfive:
And I also know that you usually don't donate until enough pledges have been made, but I have faith that we will make it. And if we don't, well, consider it a donation for the effort, lol
Edit: Transaction ID # 89F56830A9644882H
$365 on eBay (refurbished)

Btw since you're german, THIS might be an interesting offer (although I'm not sure about the warranty)
265€ = ~330$ (free shipping within germany)
I'll donate 20€ at the end of the month!
You can add me on the list
Is there anyway to donate directly from debit card? Paypal has problems with my card and renders the service unusable.

It depends. If you live in Germany it will obviously be easier. If not, it depends from country to country. What country are you in?
Hi there,
nice to see that at least one person is not scared away by the exynos cpu
You can count me in for 15€
I have a question though:
How is this handled? Are we donating all at once when enough people have expressed their will to donate?
Or should I already donate so that you can be sure that I'm serious?

The donating is a personal thing. I worded things in the op to be safe. It's just easier if people pledge, say they are gonna donate, and then once the amount has been reached people can actually donate.
Say for example, there are no pledges and we raise 200 dollars that people have already donated in a few weeks and then people lose interest and not a lot of donations come in anymore. I don't want people to be angry if the dev doesn't end up getting the tablet. :good:
Better to pledge but if you want to donate right now that's fine. Either way i'll add you to the list
Could you in the title add that this is for the exynos variant. It mislead me into thinking this was for the snapdragon until I read a little.
Ok I'm in for $20. Maybe a little more if we get close! Awesome guys.
In for $30 ?

Hey everyone,
just letting you know I was donated another 10€ yesterday, so we're at over 200$ now!
That's more than 2/3 of our goal, so there's only 100$ left.
Keep on going, we're almost there now.
Thanks to the community for having so much faith in me and enabling development for this device.

Ill throw in 25 dollars. Would you like me to donate now? If yes I can do when I get home.
See the next post for details.
Firstly, I want to thank all the users of the original FunkyHuawei. Due to costs involved, I can no longer offer FunkyHuawei as a donation-based program.
This thread is to provide support to those using the service to recover/update/rebrand their Mate 9/Mate 9 Pro, and to get feedback. Check the free credits thread to get a free credit which you can use for the service, exclusive for XDA members.

Any idea what we can expect pricing wise or if (actual) donators can carry (some of) their donation over to any new system?

Pricing will be between $15 to $30 per month for individuals with one device. The higher price plan includes technical support, the lower price doesn't. It will be between $200 and $300 for businesses/resellers who are flashing multiple phones (this was a big problem with original FunkyHuawei, and has cost me a lot.)
As for those who donated, if you donated equal to or less than the recommended donation, no. If you donated more generously than the recommended donation, or donated the recommended donation very recently, I will refund the first charges from the new service. If you are one of those people, contact support once the new site launches.
If i understood correctly, than:
The developement here will go to an end.
I understand, that everyone wants to earn something. Theese are everyones rights. But now it will be like that, if something happened to your device, pay and it will be fixed, if no sit with your brick.
I am supporting, 100% about those business/ressellers e.t.c that use it, maybe donating 30$ flashing 10000000 phones and earning x100 more than donated.
This system would be ideal for them.If its business then it shall be like that.
As for the XDA Community:This is not fair.
Some people will do that, but the most part i think not.
We will loose many mate 9 users in the end. And i can bet, that someone will try to do free alternatives after time. Wouldnt it bee better, to seperate us xda users, from business.
Ok we all can donate, most of us, but i can bet that there are people who cant.
Im not saying that im not supporting this idea, but also im not saying that i support.
Hi, I was actually considering using your service but asking $30 per month per user per phone is absurd. Companies, phone resellers OK but for a private person who wants to enjoy his phone I think this is a total ripoff, no matter how much time you put into it. I hope your business fares well though!
Time to sell my Mate 9.
Good luck with funky 2.0.
I've donated more than 50 euros just to recover my phone. But I'm not paying one more cent for things that are free in other devices. Next time I will buy other phone model. This is too much.

Yep, this is what im talking about.
Xda users must be kept seperate.
Business users are business users.
Go to he'll mate 9 and all Huawei products. We will leave u and ur company playing together and make money from air. But all companies will support their phones as that is the fair and the duty for every company if it would to be at the top. Thanks and goodbye.
All the phones listed doesn't need ur tool to flash firmwares, only mate 9 for now need it.
I'm sure lot of people are working to find a way for mate9.
We are @ XDA,So some patience and ur tool will be useless.
I agree with a lot that was said on both sides of the argument. Somehow a distinction should be made between users on XDA that have a DIY attitude and want to play with their own device with businesses that are rebranding multiple phones and trying to make big bucks.
Clearly running a business on XDA is against forum rules so presumably Funky Huawei will be moving elsewhere. While I hadn't used it I tried to keep up with what was happening. Sorry to see it go....

I don't plan to market FunkyHuawei on XDA, but I think item 11 would allow me to continue supporting people using it, if I keep up an active support thread like I've been doing. The rules are a bit unclear in that regard. So long as it's done with an intention of supporting, as opposed to selling, I think I can maintain a presence.
Anyway, I do very well understand the complaints of people who would prefer it to be more free. Unfortunately, until there is a universal income, extremely large amounts of bandwidth and storage are free, or I'm otherwise rich enough to afford not working, I can't do it like that -- it's simply not possible. This is the only way I can continue to operate it.
An alternative might be found, I might not get users, and it might not do well, but I'll do my best to have my service be an option to people who want or need it. As for those who don't want to use it, I can very well understand their reasons, and wish them the best of luck finding a less resource-intensive method to flash the phone.
Having thought about what I can do to help people who can't afford it, I will, as a compromise, come up with a free way to use the service, limited to XDA members who are not reselling or flashing large numbers of phones. For obvious reasons, I can't give unlimited open free access to everyone, but I can schedule time blocks for particular people to use the service for free. I will come up with details for that plan and announce it here later.

You've been very helpful to a lot of people, myself included, and I thank you for that. But personally, I too think $15/mo for a normal user is unreasonable. I was a user who donated and only used the service 2 times since it launched. I updated my Mate 9 to B136 and then to B138. That was about 2 GB of bandwidth, which costs next to nothing. I don't know how much time you put into this, but from the sounds of it, a lot of people are using the service. I think your numbers are going to drastically drop if you try charging that much.
I highly recommend you charge a lower fee for a PER FLASH/DOWNLOAD basis. For people like me who only own ONE device, and needed the service because Huawei OTA's are terrible, this makes sense. I cannot justify paying $15 per month when I might not even use the service for a month... 2 months, etc. (totally dependent on OTA update frequency). Sure, I could probably "cancel" every time I'm done using it... but that could still be $15 for 1 download, which is insane. Can you imagine if companies charged $15 for every update? It wouldn't work well for them at all.
All I'm asking is that you reconsider. I hate to hear that you were abused by unscrupulous people using hundreds of gigs of data after donating 1 cent, but your current proposed pricing scheme is just unreasonable for a normal user. I think charging a smaller fee for a 1 time download would work much better for you and everyone else who is not a business/reseller.

Would you be able to add the Huawei Honor Note 8 to this list? I'm giving up my Mate 9 for that device and would love to see it supported! The Nougat beta for it just launched on the Chinese site, but it seems nobody from the small Note 8 community here on XDA has managed to get ahold of it. If you pulled that off, a lot of people from over there would certainly pay for it, myself included!

I'm sure you will. I have nothing but praise for what you have given to this community. The level of resentment you see in some of the posts is just a reflection of how people grew to love FunkyHuawei and are now afraid of losing access to it. I'm positive you'll come up with a solution that is fair for everyone, you included.

So, calm everybody down.
We will see what @duraaraa will offer to us, who have one phone, and will use 1 time per 2 mnths or as @Nitemare3219 said, when OTAs will be available.
I think that those users need a free solution. There is needed to be made a automated list of those users or smtn like that. Or just set a counter, first time for free, OTAs free, any adittional flashing paid.

Maby OTA update should be free or a low cost but crossflash and unbrick the phone should cost money? U could separate and make 2 programs. One for OTA updates with ads that can generate money that u have to look at before u can upgrade. And another program for crossflash and unbrick?

I think the idea of reasonable donation per download is fair for you and the user..
Monthly fee is not a good idea as users may not use the service for the whole month...
