Good video player suggestion? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, peeps. I use my phone to follow some twitch streamers. Problem is that my battery won't last as long as the stream.
The solution is to just listen to the streamer instead of watching thr video (I watch it for the funny commentary).
I can do this with an app called Ace and any third party video player.
This is where my actual problem starts. I have audio lag when the screen is off. When it's turned on it is ok. When I turn it off the audio starts to stutter. I can't figure out why. I've tried different settings.
I'm running full performance settings on my phone.
I tried MX Player, BSPlayer and VLC Player. VLC doesn't seem to have the stuttering issue but it also doesn't allow me to fast forward or backward (on a past broadcast).

Did you try different kernel/roms? It sounds to me like your cpu/gpu scales to low when screen is off.

I am on Resurrection Remix with Alucard kernel running the extreme performance profile.
Videos stored on my device don't sutter (even with the screen off). It happens only when streaming. And it's not buffering lag, since it works well with the screen on.
I'll try turning cortexbrain off. Since it supposedly puts the phone into a battery friendly state when the screen is off.

[REQ] Coreplayer in standby/Alternatives

Hi,
As I already mentioned I have a problem with all music players. Ive used Coreplayer on my Touch HD for a long time.
I tried the same thing on HD2, but it doesnt work, when I hit the power button the music stops nearly instant. Same thing with Pocket Player. I tried the option from former times with the blank screen. Doesnt work, the display is locked and on then.
HTC Music player/tab is also weird, cause it random stops and sometimes mess the whole HTC Sense so that it takes 30 seconds to load after stand-by. I deleted all tags from tracks but the problem persists. BUT it works in standby .
Have anyone an idea, what I can do, to simply use my HTC HD2 as a music player. I prefer to use Coreplayer in background cause its the most reliable player for music (the issues as a video player are well known on Qualcomm processors).
Thanks in advance
It seems that it is possible to blank the screen in Coreplayer but the volume rocker arent working and the button line activates the screen. Is it really not possible to use a music player like on Touch HD?
Core player Audio turns off evertime the screen does.
Same problem here - This is a nightmare!
I use Coreplayer to listen to streaming live radio stations but this is just stupid...every time the screen times out on the HD2 (ie goes dark, as i've set it to in the HTC settings) - CorePlayer (and any other streaming program) just stops playing.
I have to unlock the screen and press 'play' again and wait for it to reconnect again...every 5 minutes
I tried the Menu-Options-Blank Screen, but this just caused the same problem - it dropped connection immediately and I have to go through the whole procedure again.
Anyone come across a solution? I can't believe that you have to have the screen back light on all the time and you have to tap the screen every 2 mins to keep it awake - just to listen to the radio!!
Can confirm the problem with Coreplayer, not really a solution but you might wanna try Kinoma player, nice user interface and works in standby as well.
I have both CorePlayer 1.36 and Kinoma Play.
Kinoma Play is now far better. It's fast and the interface is smooth and clever.
It's sad to say but CorePlayer is now old-fashioned and unusable on the HD2.
Do not hesitate

Oh, joy...it's not a cheap day for HD2 apps! I'll give it a go. Cheers.
try press start and key lock and wait for screen auto turn off, that works.

How to fix lag on transformers movies?

hey you guys, ive noticed that whenever i watch transformers 1 or 2 on my hd2 it plays fine then every 10 seconds or so it lags for like a second then starts running fine again, does anyone have a cab or fix or something to fix this issue? or does everyones hd2 do this? thanks
The simple "fix" I have found is to watch the videos in the Windows Media Player. The playback is smooth with no hiccups. I also noticed this odd lag with TCPMP as well. I use Window Media Player for both music and Videos and have disabled the music tab too. Sure it is not as pretty as the HTC album or HTC music player, but the quality is good.
Hmm, never seen nor heard about this.. TF movies should play uninterrupted with no skips or bumps. Perhaps try disabling any auto updates during viewing, close all other non-essential running applications, and run a cleanram sweep before playing movie. Shouldn't really have a problem after that, but if you do I recommend a hard reset.

I haven't had any issues with TF. Make sure you don't have too many things running in the background. Also turn off auto updates for twitter, that always slows my phone down.
There is also a quarter second lag or so between the video and the audio. Have you noticed that? It also occurs on youtube.

Yes that is a long documented issue, take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=658136&highlight=250ms

music playback freezes when screen turns off and back on is that normal?

i wanted my phone to be a permanant music player but it freezes in transition to going idle and waking up really annoys me. Does this happen to anyone else? Happens on stock clock.....overclocked....setcpu profile set to performance.
Any help?
Now that would be annoying!! But got no music on my phone so cant test for you.
Have you tried any other music players? I hear Winamp is good, give it a bash.
The only time I've encountered that is when I was streaming something on my phone using the stock mp3 player. Anything offline works perfectly fine.
Sent from my HTC Vision
G2 or Desire Z? I have the Z, and using the stock HTC music player, music playback does not stop when turning the screen off/on. Overclocked to 1 GHz. SetCPU also, have played around with On Demand and Performance governers, screenoff profiles. Have never had an issue of the music stopping while turning the screen off/on.
He shouldn't need to overclock his phone to play music, guys. It's more probable that a "screen off" profile in SetCPU or CPU Tuner are causing this. Although it could very well be something else. I'd be irritated as hell by that!
Maybe he's streaming over WiFi? If the WiFi is set to turn off when the display goes off, maybe that would cut off the music stream (assuming the player doesn't automatically restart the stream over the data connection). No clue though. I definitely haven't seen this problem with music stored on my sdcard...
No guys i am not streaming at all. ill tried turning off set cpu profiles on screen off. Still no luck. ill try a different music player.

Nobody ever said he did (need to overclock to play music).
I was simply stating that how I have my phone setup is similar to his, and have no issue with the music freezing. I've tried screen-off profiles in both SetCPU and CPU Tuner, with absolutely no issues with the music player.
installed winamp and all is good. I was using the new unofficial android music player that everybody likes but i guess thats why it is not offical it still has some bugs.

[Q] S3 vibrating when listening to bass heavy songs with headphones.

This is probably the freakiest problem that i have ever had I normally use Player Pro for listening to music but when I use it in the S3 the vibration module becomes active and it vibrates along with the bass heavy songs. I am getting the same problem sometimes with the stock video player...and also MX video player. interestingly the stock music player does not have this problem.
Anybody getting the same problem...any idea how to solve this?
Initially i was amused with this thing..as it sort of makes video watching better. When i was watching Thor...the fighting portions were double the fun because the S3 is underlining the epicness with vibrations...For the first time I was thinking...Is this a bug? Is this a feature?..Is this both?
But now I just want to get rid of it..hearing music is ****ty on the long run.

Its not a problem or a fault, its a feature called auto haptic feedback. Think it in the sound setting.
The bass be pumping! Pumping! Pumping!

Choppy Video via browser(s) and Video apps...

I have the Verizon Note 3 and whenever I try to play a video from an internet site such as a news clip etc...it is all choppy and lags. This happens no matter what browser I use (Chrome or Stock) and does the same thing when using MX Player or the built-in video player. Not sure what's going on. I originally had the power save mode enabled and thought that may be causing it, but I turned it off, rebooted and video still lags. I had no issues with my Nexus 7 playing embedded videos so I am not sure what's going on. This phone has powerful hardware so I have to believe it's something software related?? Wanted to add this is happening while using wifi or 4G, doesn't seem to matter.
Any input?

There are 2 things you can do to improve video playback on your Note 3:
1. Install MX Player, go to its settings and download the NeoN.zip driver. After you install that (unzip first) and put video and audio playback on HW+ (also in the MX Player settings) the video playback part is done. This gives you DTS playback also.
2. Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with Wifi communication, for which afaik no clear solution exists. I'm trying to see if another model router solves the issue since several posters on this forum reported having no Wifi issues at all. Maybe a topic should be started to see what router chipsets are causing problems.
Activate the, Force GPU Rendering, in the Developers Options , and see if it will make any difference.

Try turning off the Smart Screen options, like Smart Stay and Smart Pause etc. Maybe that will work?

Thanks for all the replies. After switching MX player to H/W + the video is smooth as butter. I also enabled Force GPU rendering in Developer Options as well. Looks like I'm good to go.
Appreciate the help.

I did this and my stock player still stops and plays every few secs. The on screen buttons come up and show it is pause. Its almost as something is reading that the screen has been pressed. My web videos play fine as does DicePlayer.
I am also having trouble with audio playback using Poweramp. The music gets louder and softer randomly, and i get distortion and crackling/popping sounds as well. Using the stock player seems fine.
Anyone have these issues?
Dice Player fixes the issue. Download it and make it your video player.
