Maybe this was obvious to all of you, but it just occurred to me. IMO, the most likely reason Samsung is trying to pull the Note 4 off the shelves is: Samsung Pay.
Think about it. How much money will they make selling the rest of their Note 4 stock? Vs. how much money will they make charging a nickel (or whatever) for each and every one of millions upon millions of transactions? You can only charge for a phone once. You can charge for a transaction over and over again.
They seeded the market with the S6 and S6 Edge, and now that they have the Note 5 and Edge +, they don't want Note 4s eating into that.
Excellent business move, IMO. Only time will tell if it pays off.

They are not recalling Note 4s. T-Mobile still lists it as available and Best Buy is still selling them. But Sprint has made a choice to discontinue carrying it...perhaps it is the limited CDMA technology and it was a decision between Sprint and Sammy...maybe to force more sales of the Note 5..but seems to be a lot of other factors involved.
Also think this should have been posted in the existing discussion here
Yep, I bought mine from T-Mobile, AT&T and verizon are still selling both the note 4 and 3, so it's something on sprint's end.

Not to mention you can not charge over and over again for a transaction, I think you meant to say charge customers over and over again for their many transactions.

Yes, that should have been obvious from the previous sentences. One charge per transaction, millions upon millions of transactions.
Best to continue theories why Sprint chose to no longer sell the Note 4 here

Hi Guys,
I currently love my Note 3 and have no plans of upgrading it on Verizon.
My contract has been up for a while I looking to renew it, due an upgrade and get a new phone and sell it here in US for some profit.
What would be the best phone to get with a contract renewal and sell?
Prices are with Contract:
Note 4 $299 (32GB)
IPhone 6 $199 (16GB) $299 (64GB)
IPhone 6+ $299 (16GB) $399 (64GB)
Please let me know what's the best plan.
I can use the money to get some AV gear
Thanks.
Note 4 if you wanna stay in future, but if you wanna go back couple years iPhone 6 LoL
History shows that the iPhone will almost certainly sell for more, regardless what we think of it.

Yes of-course I agree that Note series and Android is the way to go for personal use, I guess iPhone would have the better sale value.
What would you say the iPhone 6 or 6+??
I think 64GB might be in market as I don't know who would want to buy 16GB phone.
thanks.
Its hard to say but my gut would be that the 64 GB 6+ will net you the most profit. It's purely a guess though.

I was thinking same thing. Just that the iPhone 6+ with 64GB will be $399 to begin with. How much would I be able to sell it for, that is the question?

Heh, isn't that laways the question?
Just wait until you know Apple's off-contract pricing. That should give you a pretty solid idea of what you'll be able to get for the phone, especially if it goes out of stock for a while.

On Apple's UK site, the 6+ is retailing at :
16GB1
£619.00
Includes VAT of approx. £104.00.*
64GB1
£699.00
Includes VAT of approx. £117.00.*
128GB1
£789.00
Cheaper than the Note 4 for UK pricing, And they'll always hold their value due to the amount of people who love Apple.
Honestly I just sold my iPhone 5S 64GB on Verizon and got $390 for it, so you could in theory pay the contract rate and sell it in a year and if its in good condition and you have the original box and accessories you could get pretty close to what you paid for it.
I am getting the Note 4, done playing the back and forth game with iOS and Android. I always sell the iOS devices about 3 months after I get them from being bored, too small, can't do squat because its locked down like your date on prom night. Just no fun. That said Android always offers you the ability to be custom and make it your device with launchers, apps, themes and tools. What Android DOES, Apple STEALS.
If you want max resale value, iphones are the easy choice. Android phones drop faster in value. Sold a regular iphone 4 32gb unlocked a few months ago for 200 dollars on ebay. Who would've thought you'd still get that much for such an ancient phone.
So are you guys getting to figure out the best resale value. In order to sell and purchase a note 4 off contract?
Sent from the TermiNOTEr 2!
Actually one of the main reasons I probably won't go for the edge is that it's resale value will also. Oat certainly fall faster and to much lower points than a mainstream device like the Note 4.

Yes agreed Edge will fall fast in price compared to Note 4. Plus we don't know how functional the edge extra screen will be, it does have a lot of potential though.
Guys I will be getting 6+ from bestbuy. Should I get the phone activated on my line or just ask the BB employee to link it to my cell number without activating it. Remember I don't have any intention of using it just selling it on swappa or CL. Thanks.

I suspect we won't see any notifications till October. My guess, the phone will probably release around mid-October and they'll start preorders about two weeks prior to release. The good news is that since Samsung has a page on the variant and a model number, It probably going through the FCC review, if not already, and supports an October release.
As the VR headset, I'm not sold on it. I think it'll be interesting device, but I think it'll be very limited in support. I just can't see it having a large enough install base to make it popular for a lot developers to devote time to develop or modify applications for it. And the $200US price tag seems high for a device that may so limited. It's only usable, as we know thus far, just on the phone. No external power source, so just your phone's battery. No way to use with your PC for those games. In fact, there was an article I read that showed that getting an Octulus for the PC was cheaper than the Note 4 and VR. If they throw it in free, I'll get one. If it was $50 or less, most likely, over $100, not likely.
Plus, I wonder how the VR works. I have issues--lazy eye and colorblindness--so I have no idea if it'll work for me. The new 3D technology does not work at all for me. I have 3D TV and Playstation3, and got the active 3D glasses to check out. The 3D did not work at all. I only saw a lower resolution picture since the 3D tech uses one's cross reference between the two eyes to create the depth perception. I use one eye significant more over the other. There's a reason why I've taken a few baseballs to the throat; yes it hurt. So, on the top of the support, you can understand my skepticism for my own potential experience with it.
I'm actually more curious about the S Gear in regards to the US or Sprint. I think that may be more a more useful device. I would have preferred it to run Android, or Android Wear. I like the hardware it's bringing, and hope it'll bring manufactures to do similar. My other concerns with it, will it work with devices that do not have TouchWiz? What about the glass? Is it crystal like a good watch, or some kind of gorilla glass. Watches tend to get scratched if they're any kind of glass. If they have some kind of bundle where they offer the Gear S on the cheap side, say about $100, I would probably go with something like that.
Ah, it's exciting times for new toy(s).

It'll probably work for you since the device shows both eyes live feed (no shutter/no anaglyph). Also there are a bunch of programs that allow you stream PC games to the phone. They are not samsung supported/designed products but they do work (TriDef3D for example, there are also a bunch of android games that support the splitview 3D) I currently have a note 2 and built a custom "google cardboard" vr headset and it works great but the resolution is not so great. So, at least for me, I am accustomed to this type of headset and enjoy it quite a bit for games like Skyrim. In short, you can do everything with an android phone (any of them) that you can do with the Oculus, as there is software and hardware (DIY for most, but we have Galaxy VR now) that supports it.
Also, all US variants of the Note 4 have passed FCC as of a few days ago.

that is excellent news. I hadn't heard Verizon and a couple other hadn't going through yet, but ATT and Sprint had.
And if what you say is true about the VR and my vision, that would be excellent. There's nothing like handing over the 3D glasses to my mother and asking, "is this working? Do you see a 3D picture" And her response, "yes, and it's so cool. wow look at the sky.." it should be noted, this has been the case with most 3D stuff such as 3D rides. The old 3D tech with the blue and red paper glasses worked a little bit, but I've never had that in your face image coming out of the screen. The sad part, if it actually works and does so well, I would probably buy just because of that fact.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm just going on what I've observed in the past. I've never noticed any savings during holiday season/black friday on phones (maybe the lower end / not as popular ones to get more subscriptions) but the newly released high-end phones usually don't get discounts (the year old Note 3 probably will get a liquidation price). I thought that's why manufacturers released phones around this time of the year is because people "have money" or are willing to spend less frugally than other times in the year, meaning full price on the phone. If you're buying the phone without subscription discount (~$800), the full price/non-contract phone might be discounted during the holidays.

I don't believe it is throttled. The framily plan doesn't exist anymore. The new family plans are called family share pack and they have a bucket of 20gb that you share so not unlimited.
The quickest way to swap phones on sprint is by logging into your account and entering the imei of the new phone. Takes just a minute or two but not as simple as swapping sims.

Yesterday, I stopped by at T-moblie store and I happen to ask the salesperson there, of the three phones, Note 4, Edge, and Nexus 6, which is selling the most? He said, surprisingly, that they are selling more Note Edges. Don't know it that is true and if overall sales are greater as some stores don't carry Edge because they are not corporate stores. Also might skew sales in Edges's favor at corporate stores as it is the only place you can purchase one. Anyways, it gives hope that support will continue to grow for Edge!
Yes
It could be true , does it matter? No, since the Edge is a limited production phone anyways.

All my colleagues are talking about my Note Edge and most know it is not.much more than the iphone 6 plus
This is so sad as soon as T-mobile let me take this this back I'm going to return my (Replaced v2 Note7) for my money back and maybe buy a used s7 edge til the Note8.
Sprint and AT&T already is letting customers return the newly replaced v2 Note7 for a full refund.
http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/7/13196456/sprint-galaxy-note-7-replacement-exchange
http://bgr.com/2016/10/07/galaxy-note-7-exchange-refund-sprint-t-mobile-att-verizon/
Sprint
Sprint was the first carrier to announce unconditional replacements for any customers with a Note 7. “If a Sprint customer with a replacement Note 7 has any concerns regarding their device, we will exchange it for any other device at any Sprint retail store during the investigation window,” a Sprint representative told Recode.
The return policy will presumably get customers the full retail price of the phone towards another device, and given the big sticker price on a Note 7, customers should be able to pick up just about any other smartphone.
T-Mobile
While T-Mobile doesn’t have a specific policy in place for Note 7 devices, the company also told Recode that customers with a Note 7 can use T-Mobile’s standard 14-day “remorse” policy to return or exchange their phone. The 14-day period starts from when customers picked up their replacement Note 7 devices, so most people should still be covered under that window.
AT&T
AT&T followed Sprint’s lead, telling The Verge that customers with a Note 7 can bring their phones into a store and exchange them for any other smartphone. There’s no specified window on how long you have to bring your device in, but given the ongoing investigation by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, it’s not likely to end any time soon.
Verizon
Verizon hasn’t fully outlined its exchange program, but it has committed to exchanging devices. In a statement, a Verizon spokesperson told BGR “for any Verizon customer concerned about the safety of their replacement Note7 smartphone, they will be able to exchange it for an alternate smartphone. We will provide additional details later today.”

Cool thx, I'm going to return then.
I'm going to wait and see if turns out to be a second recall. Looks like the carrier are getting jump on it maybe they know already there's going to be another recall. If they do recall it again you can forget about software updates from the carriers. Now I have to decide if I want to get the LG V20 or go back to the iPhone SE if they do a 2nd recall. Battery life on that little phone was awesome. Only phone I managed to get 1 1/2 days of usage before having to charge it. What a ride from the anticipation of receiving the device to this now. At least I got 2 256gb memory cards out of this ordeal.
ATT may stop selling the Note 7
http://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/1...-in-unprecedented-move-following-latest-fire/
keeps getting worse for the Note 7. If that happens most likely the rest of the carriers will follow through.
Wow this sucks, theres no other phone that I like out there right now either. Pixel looks nice but no sd cards kills it for me, the 4k will eat up the sd card, even with unlimited cloud storage. v20 is eh.... and iphone 7... well its an iphone...
Wow I just got my replacement today lol. I'm hoping it's just a one off that exploded I really like this phone and I don't want an official recall on V2.
The Pixel is the only other choice for me too but I don't think the camera on the Pixel will produce the depth that the note 7 does and I love those deep looking shots.
Just returned the Note7 v2 for a full refund. Using an LG G3 as a temp phone for now, tired of all these crap.
Welp, time to return my V2, and get another replacement Note 7, and do the 256GB SD Card trick again :'D. Then return that for a $50 restocking fee and get the Pixel.... /sarcasm
or was it?
I got mine the other. Everything is perfect, which I'm quite surprised lol. Did a back up restore and I thought it would get hot and it didn't. It wasn't even laggy while downloading and installing my apps. I seriously hope there is no recall. This phone just rocks at least for now.

It's over. Even if all three are proven to be false or another recall happens and they actually get it right, no airline will ever let you carry a note 7 again. Even if you get past security the little ***** sitting next to you will probably freak and scream you brought a bomb on the plane.
The average person thinks every phone is a iPhone or a Galaxy, you honestly think they will believe your device is safe if they find out it is a note 7?
If tmobile had any class they would give us at the very least our previous pre upgrade phone free of charge until the next note or whatever you decide to upgrade to. Instead many of us will be forced into buying a phone we don't want, wasting a Jump, etc.

I agree. I wish I could go back to August and just not buy the phone. I traded in my s7 edge and paid $180 to upgrade early. Not to mention the deposit for 2 notes. I will never see that money again. So I can get another s7 edge and be out the cash I paid to upgrade early and have to start back at payment number 1 out of 24. Feel like a rape victim from law and order.

That video was somewhat disheartening. And only 2 hours old?
All I need is for that to hit the news then my daughter and my mother will both have a tizzy all over again and start worrying about Samsung melting my face off.
This has been a pretty rough ride. I feel like I bought a Ford Pinto.

For those like me who are holding on to their Note 7's and not wanting to relinquish our devices why doesn't Samsung or the phone carriers just send out a waiver for people to sign stating that if you want to keep your Note 7 you can but Samsung and your specific carrier is not held liable for anything that happens to you or the phone down the line or after said waiver is signed.Just a thought on if that would be a good idea and who would be willing to sign such waiver if it were to happen?
Not sure of the feasibility of this. My biggest concern would be lack of updates going forward. Even if a waiver was an option - Samsung not going to invest in maintaining the software.
Im still holding on to mine for now. No hurry to move on.
Looking into a cheap Note 5 to hold me over since my N4 was acting up (or i wouldn't have even got the N7) so I can save my upgrade. (Not happy about Sprint dropping 2yr subsidized price for new phones either)
If there is any teeth to the rumor that Samsung will make a future upgrade cheaper if N7 users go to S7/S7E, then id consider that route too.
Because then people just wouldn't sign it? This also opens the door for normal customers with no legal knowledge to pursuit this legally.
Is Samsung going to force customers to sign this waiver? Do they want a bigger lawsuit?
There's a reason why it's a voluntary recall (still is) and not mandatory even after the CPSC got involved.
Also it effects more than just you. If it catches fire on a plane you just killed people . If it didn't effect others life im sure they would let you keep it but return it . I loved the phone but the hassle of all this just to keep a phone is not worth it. At the end of a day it's just a phone

I agree on it's just a phone but it's a damn good phone and that's what sucks about it cause i don't want to drop down to an s7 or s7 edge or a google pixel not even an lg v20 sprint sent me another text stating that they "MUST" exchange all note 7s this so called voluntary recall is becoming mandatory.I'm still holding on to mine and will get the Note 8 when it's available.I've owned every Note except the 5 only because of no expandable memory and they have all served me well,my thoughts on this fiasco is that the batteries were not the issue rather it was the charging monitor system not being able to regulate the fast charging, just my opinion makes more sense to me.

Was this over the phone?
Is there a log to use against them legally?
