my S4 headphone jack experiencing sound distortion...

I got my S4 few days, since my car able for Bluetooth audio, so its working fine on my car, but today I took my car for service, and I am using my s4 with aux cable on the loaner car, I found out that the sound was terrible, with lot of noise distortions, with it. when I back to office I am testing the aux cable with iphone 5, galaxy note II, and galaxy S4, only S4 have problem, and then I test it on my wife car, same thing, I guess I have a defective S4, does anyone having the same problems?

I am actually noticing some distortion on my S4 as well when using headphones. It is fine over BT in my car but when in the gym there is like a crackling noise sometimes. Tried different headphones and get the same result.
Did you find anything out? Defective device?

ok ill check it out, thanks I am experiencing it through headphones though...
This is a known issue in Qualcomm powered S4s. Id contact Samsung for a replacement.

Thanks for posting this. This nose in the link is exactly what I am hearing from two different headphones from the same manufacturer, meelectronics. However when I use my wifes iPhone headphones or connect to her car via aux cable the sound output is fine.
I think I will try and return my phone to best buy for an exchange. ..

I did try couple phone already from ATT...While I am using headset is fine. Just having problems on aux cable. But after I am using noise reducing aux cable. It working fine. And I guess all s4 have same problem. You may just try to get noise reducing aux cable first before exchanging your phone. ..because you will get refurbished phone for exchange. .

Well I bought my phone from Best Buy, they have a 15 day return policy. I was on day 16 but they were kind enough to swap me for a new phone. I also have their Geek Squad protection so I could have gone that route as well. From the article it looks like its hit or miss on which handsets are affected. The new one I got is not affected and has no headset static unlike my old one. Guess I got lucky.
Great success!

That would make sense as the distortion effect apparently has to do with the impedance on audio devices. Low impedance devices are experiencing the issue. Find out what the Ω Ohm measurement is on the headphones from meelectronics. I know the Apple headphones are Ω23 so it is higher impedance thus not experiencing the issue.
Mine breaks I had to clean with proper alcohol the jack port and connector. No issues so far since then. I'm worried that would be damaged!

ahh, you're right, from the meelec.com website both my headphones show 16 ohms, not sure how to make the Omega or whatever sign that is.
Just noticed this thread while browsing the forums for the international S4

Safe to say that this is a major issue and Samsung will need to confront it at one point or another.
Yes I had this issue and luckily was able to get it replaced under warranty at ATT

Did the new one exhibit the same issues? This is supposedly an issue that effects any and all GTI9505 variants. Whether or not you hear it depends on the setup you use to listen to music off of the device.

Was the phone being charged? If so, that for some reason is the source of the problem. It worked on the galaxy s4 and LG G2.

Why does AUX music output sounds so bad?

I just picked up a G2 to replace my broken HTC One M7.
I love the phone but when I connect it to my car stereo using an Aux cable, I hear hissing and interference during quiet portions of music. I do not hear it using headphones. The cable is high quality and with my HTC the sound was flat out amazing, pure clear output with additional noise. I connected my wife's Iphone 5s and my daughters Galaxy S4 using the cable and they sounded fine also.
Any thoughts or ideas on this? Really mars an otherwise fantastic phone experience....

How is the quality of the heaphone jack on the MXPE?

In terms of 1. the sound output on the headphone jack (sound quality, output volume). How does it compare to other phones that you have owned? I'm especially interested in how it compares the iphones with the best headphone sound quality such as the iphone 4 or the iphone 5s. I'm aware that the MXPE, as with the iphones, does not have native hi def audio support as it only supports up to 16-bit/48KHz natively (source: www dot whathificom/motorola/moto-x-style/review).
and 2. build quality (is there an inner ring made of metal inside the jack ,completely flush with the metal contact part of the plug, to stabilize the heaphone plug?). The design of the headphone jack, placed on a slended edge, is such that some headphone plugs with larger heads are not going to be able be completely flush with the jack when plugged in, as compared to the iphone 4. In these cases, is the headphone plug stable enough when plugged in such that it will withstand prolonged usage? Has anyone had any issue with similarly designed headphone plugs on the moto x 2014 and the nexus 6 after prolonged usage?

I find the quality of the headphone jack quite good. My previous phones are Samsung Galaxy S3 and Nexus 5.
The sound quality is good imho, good loudness and no need to install any software to tweak the sound.
As for the metal jack, the headphones are stable enough when plugged in. I don't have the feeling that there will be issues with prolonged usage.
I also found both the audio and build quality of the jack quite good.
+1 from me also. I have a pair of Sony headphones that come with my Z3, the sound quality is on par with or better than any recent phone I've used, much better than the S6 for sure.

I didn't like the sound. I used the equalizer to amplify the bass sound. Anyway, my reference was a in-earphone, which have better bass reprodution.

The build quality is ok. The earphones are quite comfortable, but the cord is thin.

Headphone jack broke/route through usb-c

So I've had the unfortunate experience of having my phone slide off the back of the toilet and right into the water bottom first. Ironically the speaker still works (without its moisture protection) but the headphone jack no longer picks up any head phones.
The question I have is if I get a usbc to 3.5mm audio adapter can I use this for headphones instead? This would seem to be the quickest work around and cheapest. If this is possible does the DAC still work through this port?
My other two options are
- replace the jack (which really doesn't seem all that hard) but there are mixed reviews on these replacements
- bluetooth headphones (no DAC and pricey to get a decent set)
Keep in mind it's been dried out (its been about 5 days) and blasted with air so it's not wet anymore. I unfortunately failed to turn the device off after this (not thinking) so I am pretty sure I could have prevented this damage.
Alternatively it's been dropped probably a dozen times face first, though I don't think this was the cause since the port isn't loose.

Get USB C audio adapter with DAC.
I have few of them for HTC U11 Life and they also work with V20

Yes, audio is decoded with built in chip.
I just got my adapters this morning, one with a built in DAC and another without. The regular one actually sounds better.
Obviously I don't expect much from a 13 dollar "hifi" usb c adapter but I didn't expect it to make the sound worse.
I pretty much knew this already but the built in Quad DAC on the v20 doesn't work through the port (at least the option to enable it doesn't work), the sound is perfectly fine in my opinion though.
