I'm leaning heavily towards using an available upgrade to get the S4 i337. I currently have an LG Nitro HD running CM10.1 RC2 and I've been spoiled by (mostly) vanilla Android over the last few years of running CM on a few different phones. I'm also hooked on DashClock, so only an Android 4.2+ device will work for me (otherwise I'd probably get the HTC One). Lastly, even though I've run CM based ROMS for the last couple of years, I don't really want to continue to do so... up until RC2, CM10.1 has been quite buggy on my Nitro HD and I just don't want to go down that road again.
I'll be buying the S4 with hopes that a stable version of vanilla 4.2/4.3 will be ported from the Google Experience phone. That said, in the meantime, I'd like to give the S4 as much of a stock appearance as possible, with or without root, but without flashing a custom ROM (especially since it's not even really an option yet given the state of the bootloader).
The starting point of a stock look will be a launcher, likely Apex, Nova, or Holo HD. Next will be a replacement status bar, likely Omega StatusBar. For the lock screen, Widget Locker would be my choice, though I've been using NO lock screen as of late. Beyond these three tweaks, I'm not sure where to go next.
My three unresolved priorities would be the notification area, dialer, and contacts. For the dialer, I'm thinking Swipe Dialer has enough of an AOSP look that it would work just fine. Can anyone recommend an alternative Contacts app that matched the AOSP look fairly well? And I don't know of ANY options for changing the look of the pull-down notification area... any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

First off, I would not recommend using a statusbar replacement app. I've tried all of them, and none of them seem to run smoothly enough to use on a daily basis. Instead, I would recommend installing the Xposed Framework, and the NottachXposed Mod. This will allow you to customize the statusbar, as well as some elements of the pull-down notification area.
As far as a lockscreen, WidgetLocker is excellent.

I´ve made this thread so people can discuss here about the 3 tablets:
8.4, 10.1 and 12.2 !
Which apps are u using on your Galaxy Tab Pro?
Which launcher are u using?
Or do you want to share something?
I´ll start :
I buyed my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 WIFI last week and i love the device because it´s so cheap !
It works like a charm !
Only the annoying noise is annoying
But i move my mind over it
I´m using the following launchers recently:
Modified Stock Launcher
SPB Launcher ( 10,45$ )
Google Now Launcher
I just love the stock launcher the most, i have a modified one so it´s fast enough
If you want something else and you have money then i recommend buying SPB Launcher
SPB is old but gold, it is a really famous launcher a couple of years ago.
But i installed it on my 8.4 and it's not perfect for tablets you can better go with modified stock launcher or Google Now Launcher .
SPB is well the beautifulst launcher for phones .
I was using Google Now launcher on my 8.4 because i thought it was better for battery but i feel more connected with the tablet while using stock launcher so i searched for a faster one and i found the modified one in the 8.4 apps section here on XDA !
Then i had to find a way to make my battery better so i tried a combination of greenify and wanam exposed
In greenify i greenified all the apps except tapatalk and i applied boost mode and some other little settings and in wanam exposed have i enabled benchmarking boost that is originally for antutu benchmarking test but it makes your device a beast and in combination with greenify will it not affect your battery
Now i will also going to flash that beast mode kernel to make it even more a beast
Cheers!
And now it´s your turn!
Got a tab 8.4 wifi for almost a month. Rooted and installed lite pRom with beast kernel. Using google now launcher. Been using it mostly for gaming(brave frontier and coc) and checking mails. I really like this tab except that wifi drops if you hold it in the lower left corner. Sucks to be right handed.

I'm also right handed but i have no problems with wifi drops at lower left corner like everyone else has.
My 8.4 is randommly dropping wifi and even disconnects here
But i love this tablet anyway

Yup, the tab pro is cheap but the hw is powerful.
The wifi behaved just as described but not 'disconnecting'.
I am still using the stock launcher with quite a number of unwanted apps being frozen..including the magazine. I'm quite satisfied with the speed now.
I had install the nova and it's good for phone but I felt the stock launcher could be more appropriated for a tablet.
Just want to know why the spb ?

Why would galaxy tab pro discussion in a galaxy tab pro forum be off topic?

who uses the stock Magazine UX launcher on their Tab Pro? Do you use the tile widgets to access information? I'm not a fan of Magazine UX, but I don't hate either. I want to see if I'll get used to it, or learn to like it. I see alot of negative comments, but zero positive ones. I figure if I wanted an AOSP style device, I should've got an AOSP device. My previous tablet was a Nexus 7 (2013). I own a 2012 N7 and used to own a N4, plus I used AOSP ROMs on my S4 before. I think AOSP is too plain/boring. Magazine UX is cumbersome, but it's different. I'm rambling. My question is: Do you use the Magazine UX and how do you use it?
Got my tab pro 8.4 a mont ago and since them I'm using Cyanogenmod 11 with nova laucher.
I really hate touch wiz and samsung android modifications, so I bought just to use cyanogenmod

Good choice bro, i'm also using this ( CM11 ) now for enjoying Theme engine.
Themes are really beautiful on the 8.4 !
I highly recommend Nova or Apex when you're using icons and Google Now Launcher when you're don't using custom icons

I really like the stock launcher but i've switched tot cyanogenmod because of the thousands of beautiful themes available .
In the Magazine UX, once I add various sections, do I need to refresh them constantly, or do they update with new content like it does with HTC Blink?
My tablet hasn't arrived yet (12.2 Pro) so I'm getting ready for it, to me it seems all the content in launcher would be nice, if it works correctly. What are some other tips you guys can offer?

Hey all,
Need a new Android phone and I think the Note 4 is the way to go, I've had one before and I enjoyed it but that was a while ago. Note 5 doesn't have the removal battery that I need.
I hate the Samsung theme though it's so ugly, so is there any way I can change it easily to something stock android looking with a custom rom?
Thanks

I love my Note 4 so I would highly recommend it. The Note 5 is a total deal-breaker for me with no removable battery and no SD card slot either. The mind boggles with those choices by Samsung. Anyway, I totally support the move to the Note 4. It is a damn fine phone. Although the second poster is right, the camera can tend to lag. But personally, it's not a big issue for me. In fact, I've just upgraded to an S7 so we can sell it and get a Note 4 for my best friend. That's how much we love this model.
As for theme changing, the easiest way to do that is to just load a launcher onto your device. Even the best launchers have free options.
My top 3 favourite Launchers are Nova, Apex and LINE Launchers.
If you prefer fancy widgets and 3D options, look at Go Launcher or Next Launcher. But they are riddled with ads for their other products.
You will find a lot more options available through a Launcher in terms of customising your device to look and feel how you want it to. For most, it's as simple as downloading a theme and activating it through your launcher settings. Very easy and straight forward.
You don't need a custom ROM for that, http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/official-layers-bitsyko-apps-rro-t3012172
And this is one of the best time to buy Note 4 by the way, price is low, camera is still solid, one of the fastest I have used, don't know exactly how much faster the camera on the Note 5 is to call Note 4 camera laggy and slow!, but it is irrelevant to me, can't ever touch a mess of greasy glass nuisance.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
Anthro- I am receiving my Note 4 today and need it for a long plane journey so I can have a removable battery and keep a spare, also I want the SD card function to switch between the phone and my GoPro on holiday. Hopefully with a ROM like Dr.Keaton it will be fast and smooth. As for the theme advice, thanks for that but I like a full theme which themes the full system like the setting and pull down menu etc. I am sure Iw ill figure this all out tonight when playing with my phone.
I may consider the Note 5 in the future but I can't seem to get one in the UK at the minute.
Thanks again
Hi,
I have never used one of the edge phones before, and was wondering if the display notifications on the edge of the screen only work with Touchwiz?
i normally use nova launcher on my S5 and was wondering if i will lose out on any features if i continue to when buying the S7 edge?
Cheers
TRI
AFAIK, the edge notifications are only available with screen off, with the screen on you get the default heads up notifications of android 6.0, so no, they aren't launcher dependent. But you'll need a stock based ROM though (which anyways isn't a case atm, because there aren't any others, but still).
Using Apex launcher with full edge functionality without issues.
Why install Nova or Apex? Are they faster? What do they offer what Touchwiz does not? I personally don't like the way Touchwiz/icons looks but saw you can make it look like stock Android 6 with a simple theme change.
Grid size/number change on app drawer and home screen, all widgets resize possibility, put one widget under the other one (cross them), a lot of beautiful themes/icon packs that touchwith don't have, ios 6 like folders design, transparent status bar, animation...
BTW, Miui ROM has amazing design, so there is MIUI 5 and MIUI 7 - ICON PACK by tung91 on Play Market with hundreds miui icons. The first one is free and it´s similar to donate version.
Yes obviously

No, I use nova and it works fine.
Hello everybody,
I have a little question for you guys. Do you know if we can use icon pack without install an extern launcher like Nova ?<
Thanks !
No.
Unfortunately, no..... But, you can't go wrong with Nova launcher. I've had it for 4 or 5 years now, it's become the standard on all my phones from my Galaxy s3, to Galxy S7, to every HTC phone I've owned, to the Nexus 6P, to the Axon 7. Super customizable and light on resources and can kick out any bogged down stock launcher (like Touch-Wiz).
The stock launcher in the A7 isn't bad and is really close to stock....Which Nova can duplicate. I currently have mine set up to mimic the new (Google) Pixel launcher.
What apps from the pixel r u able too use so far ?
