After installing Google Photos, should it be moved to /system/priv-app?
Two requests
First off I just want to thank you for your hard and excellent work. I have been using MOAR for quite some time and it has been great. I am switching to the BS free ROM - it's almost exactly what I want. I was curious if you could add back the Samsung Email App with Exchange Support and also the S6 Keyboard. I have to run the standard email app for work, and could not find a seperate source to successfully install on BOG5. I was able to get the S6 Keyboard sepererately and installed, but who wants the ugly S5 KB preinstalled anyway?
Thanks!

Have you tried installing Android Exchange Services? It integrates Exchange into the gmail app. I use it and am very happy.

stock ncg to no bs 0g5 issues
Hey how you guys doing? Thanks for all your hard work jkruse.
I'm having issues. I flashed back to stock NCG, I've rooted, installed busybox, installed safestrap, installed flashfire v0.21, when I go to install the no BS 0G5 deodexed rom using flashfire. I do the following steps I select the firmware first then the rom finally the kernel. Once it flashes and finishes it just freezes at black galaxy s5 boot screen it stays there and doesn't do anything. I've checked all md5 checksums verified them again just to be sure they checked out correctly. I'm no noob I've been flashing roms and rooting since I had my Droid X back in the day. If you could point me in the right direction, your help would be greatly appreciated and thank your time.
Are you flashing the firmware as a zip or firmware package? The firmware flashable file includes the kernel, and it needs to be flashed as a zip, not a firmware package.

Try flashing the NCG kernel with Odin and see if you can boot into safe strap. If you can get into safe strap, then install the BOG5 kernal.zip.

I've been flashing the firmware as is, I'm not to sure how to select flash as a zip or package. I'm new to flashfire, I've always used odin.

Do you tap "Flash firmware package" or "Flash ZIP or OTA" when you select the firmware?

flashing back to stock yet again, this time i did the ota flash zip on each i selected rom first, firmware, kernel, lastly theme. it flashed everything but refuses to get past the black galaxy s5 logo it did something new this time it hangs and boots to recovery.
Your phone keeps bootlooping every time because you keep flashing it incorrectly. DO NOT flash it as a firmware package. DO flash it as a ZIP or OTA.
I will make it much more simple. Boot into safe strap, then tap install. Install BOG5 firmware, then install the BS free ROM. When the install is complete, tap wipe Dalvik/cache, then tap reboot. Then wait 7 minutes for your phone to boot into awesomeness.

Alright I'll do that now, thanks for your time. I really appreciate the help.
I've never had issues flashing the way I have been until earlier today.
Forgive me, I misread your last post. I see that you flashed as OTA last time. I haven't had any issues flashing with FlashFire, but I have heard of some people running into problems. Try using safestrap and following the steps I just posted. Also, you do not need to flash the kernel, because it is included with the firmware.

Alright I'm doing so now, I'll report back, thanks again!
I may know why you are running into issues now that you hadn't before. On previous builds, JK would use an actual firmware package and separate kernel. The BOE1 firmware contained a bootloader update that prevented downgrading, so it needed to be modified, and was no longer an official firmware package. Since then, he has made the firmwares flashable as a zip. You are probably familiar with the older method of upgrading the firmware, which is why you've never had an issue before.

Just reflashed and started fresh, now it's working and also the themes are aswell. No more issue's.
Looks like I've ran into another problem, wifi tether keeps getting force closes when trying to use foxfi tether app. Maybe i have to copy some files from a stock 0g5 ROM? Using the google deodexed version.

No labels?
How do I get rid of app labels? So for instance, I don't see the word "phone" in text underneath the phone app icon on the homes screens as well as in the app drawer?
Thanks for the great rom btw. A really nice upgrade over Baja rom, though i do miss the opening animation and will Smith on the lock screen.
Seems rock solid and smooth so far. Love the aosp theme and pissing off coworkers with the Apple theme on a note 3?
Can someone help me with extSdCard issue. I can't rename any file or create a folder or move files from phone to card. I have tried the kit kat sd card fix apps. I always used root Explorer and I have tried multiple sd cards. I currently have a SanDisk 128gb sd. I'm also on NC2 kernel running safestrap. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to install Alliance Rom on my Note 3 without success.
My Note 3 is rooted, has Safestrap 3.75 installed, along with busybox.
My Note 3 is running (came with) 4.4.2 NC4.
I've tried to install in in the stock slot after backing up the stock rom.
I've successfully installed Jasmine, so I think I do know how to install a rom, but am having trouble with this.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

After flashing the rom zip you need to boot straight to download mode from safestrap & flash the NC2 kernel via Odin (link in the thread linked in my signature). Then it'll boot.

Thank you for that.
I now have it running, but I may or may not have an issue.
When I swipe down from the top (app drawer?), I can't turn anything on or off from there (i.e. bluetooth, airplane mode, etc). Is that normal?
Thanks again.

Quick question concerning NC4
I have a Verizon Note 3 and I am currently running a custom ROM that uses a NC2/NC4 Kernel. I want to try the Alliance ROM, can I directly flash it or do I have to revert back to rooted NC4? Sorry for the noob question. Alliance ROM would be my second custom ROM.
Can someone please help me? Thank you in advance

Hey man, it's the only way to treat people - I was a newer member once, just like everybody! I was mobile last night but at my desk now and found the instructions you needed, in case you weren't able to find anything. The toggles work perfectly, there's just a theming glitch - check the simple instructions at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55346405&postcount=11124

You don't need to do anything differently than any other person wanting to install Alliance:
1) Boot to SafeStrap
2) Wipe Data, Dalvic, Cache
3) Flash the ROM zip
4) After it's done flashing, hit the Home button in Safestrap
5) Tap "Reboot" menu
6) Reboot to "Download/Bootloader" (I forget the name)
7) Flash the NC2 Kernel in Odin (requires a PC) - You can find it in my guide thread which is linked in my signature
8) Reboot & Enjoy!

Problem with Google Hangouts Notifications
Hi there. I am not sure if this is the correct section to post my problem but I cannot yet post in the Alliance Rom thread. I am having a problems with notifications from Hangouts that I will try and describe as detailed as I can below.
My setup is a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 with Alliance Rom version 1.
I currently utilize two google accounts with hangouts. My primary is my main account which friends and family interact with both through hangouts and sms. My second account is a dummy account I use to interact with people such as those I meet on craiglist to sell items mainly through sms.
I am finding the past few weeks that i will have missed either SMS messages or hangout messages because I did not receive a notification on my phone for either account. I have gone ahead and tested this by logging into both accounts on my computer with different instances of chrome and logged into gmail on both. I went about messaging each account back and forth to see of my phone which is still logged in would receive a notification.
I only get a notification on my phone around 25 percent of the time.
I am not sure whether this is a straight hangouts bug or something related to Alliance rom so I decided to post here first before I venture to the hangouts help forum.

Flashing From Stock
Sorry for a total noob question, but I'm new to flashing and I'm paranoid
It says in the first post to do a full wipe if coming from a different ROM... Would stock TW count as a different rom? Or can I dirty flash this to the stock slot without doing anything else?

NI2 Firmware
So, what happens if I don't flash the NI2 firmware with ODIN after flashing the ROM with safestrap? In my haste to get this up and running I may have run out of the house before flashing the firmware. As of now it's running fine and it says my build is OptimalRom. I can see Viper has installed and the volume up flashlight tweak is working. It seems to be mostly there short of the extra toggles in notifications.
Chances are I'm going to get home later and fix this, but I was just curious because at the moment my phone is running great.

It would probably work on other firmwares (since rooting NI2 requires downgrading), just not 100% stable and you'll probably get many FCs. What's your baseband say? If it ends in NI2, then you're fine. If it says NE9 or NCG or NHA, then you'll want to flash the NI2 firmware.

Baseband ends in NI2. But, like I said, it's running pretty much flawlessly. Being paranoid of something down the line not working correctly I'm probably just going to fix it later tonight though. Thanks for the quick response! If this is not 100% than I'm going to be extremely happy when I re-do it later and get it working correctly. Cheers.

I haven't tried but it's possible. Not sure why encryption doesn't work on other roms, but the "regular" version of this one is basically stock with root, TWRP, busybox, etc. I've disabled securestorage and added r/w permissions for SD card too, but if that's a problem you can reverse those two changes by following the steps in OP2 in my dev thread. If you test it out please report back and let us know if it worked

What version of the rom are you flashing? Debloated v1.1 or 2.1? The files I linked were from the AOA1 base so not clear if they will work on BOC4.

A01A Base and debloated V1.1.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond - not really a big deal - just more a point of trying to figure it out for myself at this point. I will likely flash to 5.01 debloated now anyway - I have KT kernel running with the 1.1. Does the 5.01 have it's own kernel? (sorry if this is a naive question).

Thanks again.

Happy to help . v2.1 (i.e. Lollipop) has the stock kernel. If you have already updated to BOC4 through Odin at least once before then the kernel will work for you when you flash v2.1. If not, you'll need to flash a compatible custom kernel (e.g. AEL, KT, etc) to avoid boot loops after installing v2.1. See OP in my dev thread for full instructions.
Not sure about the LTE icon. Maybe try copying the CSC folder from another working rom to v1.1 and try flashing that? If you're on kitkat and running xposed there is also a module you can download called LTE Switcher or something like that. I've used it before and it worked for me.

Thanks - I will install a custom kernel post-2.1 flash to get the BOC4 update. Appreciate you taking the time. I'll keep working away at the LTE issue. Let you know if I figure it out.

Yes just confirming that you should be able to get the LTE icon by copying the CSC folder from stock or from the Regular version to your phone (after installing the Debloated version of course).:good:

Debloated 2.2 released!
Notes:
Used a new debloat process and also fixed FC when using the front-facing camera.
If you get any FCs after initial setup (such as Google Maps or Samsung Link Platform), just make sure to update the problematic app from the Play Store or Samsung's Galaxy Apps store and then you should be good to go!

Samsung Provider Codes not working
Hi there, Great Rom!
One thing that isn't working is the service provider code of *#2263# isn't working (MMI error).
Thanks again!

I've tried both versions and neither version can access the RF Band Selector menu. It comes up with a MMI error. I've gone through and tried manually selecting a provider and that didn't work neither. IMEI is intact, and no issues with making receiving calls or texts. Flashed back to stock via Odin and no issues with getting to that menu.

Hmm that's strange...I could understand an issue with the Debloated version since things were removed, but the Regular version is basically just a rooted and deodexed version of stock. You have a N910W8, and not using any other mods or kernels, correct? Not sure why it would work on stock BOC4 but not the Regular Rom since they are essentially the same...

Yes I had the same thought, so I went from the debloat to the regular. I also ensured that I wiped 3x in TWRP in all required sections (all except internal storage and SD Card), before doing the flash to debloat or regular. Also made sure I waited 5 minutes post boot and then reboot before going through the setup wizard.
In any case, not a deal breaker for some, but may be fore those that are looking to enable LTE on N910W8 (Wind purchased phones).
I am running a N910W8, with no other mods or kernels. I was running straight stock w/root, before flashing the ROM's. Ensured that I was running BOC4 before flash. Not sure why, unless the base ROM you're using in the Deodex and Debloat doesn't have that menu's within it's native firmware, but I was under the impression that the firmware for canadian models were all identical with their own carrier codes attached to the firmware. (CSC Code chage *#272*IMEI#).

Thanks for the info. Strange indeed! Yes the Canadian roms should all basically be the same as you mentioned. This one is based directly off the stock Bell BOC4 firmware from sammobile so not clear why it would on stock but not this version. I've read something about Wind phones being a little different from the other Canadian variants in some way (I forget the specifics now), but that was a while back and I'm not sure if it's actually true or even related to this lol. Either way I will take a look over the weekend and post if I find anything of interest.

Hey guys,
I ran a search but I don't understand half the things people are writing. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could please explain to me my options. In layman's terms, as I do not understand half the abbreviations and jargons here.
I rooted my phone over a year ago and really don't remember much about the process. I can't download important apps from Google Play anymore as they require newer versions than 4.2.2... So I'm stuck on this old version and need to update ASAP.
I have ONLY rooted the phone. I haven't done any mods or installed any ROMS. It's on stock AT&T Rom. (sometimes I wonder why I even bothered in the first place).
Can someone please point me in the right direction, I want a regular STOCK AT&T newest version, whether it stays rooted or not that's fine, but a newer version, KitKat preferably. What are my options? The simplest method would help me the most.
Things I really need backed up: My Text Messages, Voicemail, Call Logs, Whatsapp Messages etc. What is the best way to back that up? If I use Titanium Backup, and I don't have root after I update, Titanium Backup would be obsolete. So what would my other option?
Please help.
Much appreciated,
Are you sure you want to update from 4.2.2. You probably have the option to flash custom roms on your phone. There are many custom roms that that'll put 4.4.4 on your phone. Since you're rooted get terminal emulator from the play store. In it type
getprop ro.bootloader
If the last three characters are mdb or mdl you have a lot of options. I can help walk you through on how to get a custom rom on your phone.
You can update your firmware and bootloader to 4.4.4 too but you'll lose the option to flash most custom roms.

Thanks bud,
I got I337UCUAMF3
I'll be honest, I haven't really messed with any custom ROMS before. I just use the stock AT&T one. But I would like to upgrade to KitKat so my phone is faster and can download / upgrade the latest Apps. Lollipop isn't out for the AT&T Samsung S4 right?

No. My phone is rooted... Is it supposed to download to 4.4? And also couldn't there be issues with that?
I found this post. So I know this is ONE option: But I'll lose my Root. Which is fine if that's my only option.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2728462
As the OP says, I will lose ROOT. So my question would be, If I back up using Titanium Backup, how can I restore my backup if Titanium Backup works only on ROOT? This is very important.
@ jd1639 - He had mentioned there were several other options, so I will wait to hear them, and I can make a decision from there. Otherwise, I may have to fork out another $150 - $200 Bucks on a Samsung Galaxy S5 or S6. depending which suits my needs.
Many thanks for the replies!

You're on mf3 bootloader which doesn't really allow you to flash any roms anyway. You'd have to use safestrap.
What I'd do is flash the nb1 tar file in Odin. That'll update you to 4.4 and the device should then ota update itself from there. You will lose root, you can root it again if you want. See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50912149

Thanks JD, do you know if this wipes my phone? In other words, does it factory reset my phone?
Yes Flash the NB1 Stock file as he said. But you are going to loose Root and any pictures etc. stored on phone memory, so copy them to your PC or SD card. I always like to take SD card out just in case when I flash just in case it may erase it. But after you flash NB1 Stock or the Stock Root it is like a phone and have to set it up. Then it should Update to 4.4.4 itself from the settings/ Software update. Good luck. Any problem let us now.
Ah cheers,
Last question: Do you recommend the First or second option?
I337UCUFNB1_4.4_Stock_Odin_tar
I337UCUFNB1_4.4_Rootable_Stock_Odin_tar
Just a bit confusing as why he would post two separate links? I'm interpreting the first cannot be rooted ever.
Thanks again to the both of you for helping with this.

It's possible to root even the 4.4.4. It just gets a little trickier to do it and you have to flash modules in Odin. In the general forum see "all things at&t....." by guut13

Yep I think you are correct. So if you want to root again use the Rootable to flash in Odin. Once you go from Jelly Bean to Kit Kat bootloaders are Locked for some .tar Same for Lollipop, they have not been able to root and unlock bootloader as yet. Just follow the steps and take your time and all will be good. Have done it several times on mine with Odin.
Hey guys, I just wanted to take the time and thank you both for the help. I finally updated today. After backing up all my data and making sure everything was safe to go. Bam! I did exactly as you suggested and had zero issues... I am now on 4.4.2
There were a couple hiccups along the way, but I figured them out without too much of a hassle.
Cheers again and best of luck to the both of you!
Does 5.0 not suck enough to do this yet? My new car has AndroidAuto and I want to use it but can't with my current 4.4.4 verison. Last I read, 5.0 sucked and everyone was trying to downgrade. I'm currently rooted with xposed framework and would miss not being able to turn my phone into a hotspot so hopefully that's possible by now too. What exactly do I need to do?
If you are on N12 you can get to 5.0 rooted. There are many threads on this. Have a search around!
I used a method by Jkruse, and now can even use safestrap without ODIN.

Is there a dedicated thread for the Jkruze method? I see him referenced here but I don't see anything about his method so far.
I used this as I was already rooted on N12. At the bottom of the first post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62333947
If you are not rooted you likely want to start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53447240
Warning/disclaimer: read everything before attempting anything to your phone....multiple times. These links / help may ruin your phone. Be careful
Ok, I get the process now after reading but I don't know how to SafeSTrap on NI2 if I'm already rooted. The instructions aren't clear on that, the title says you'll be able to use SafeStrap without ODIN but if I'm already rooted on KK then it just tells me to boot into safestrap...
Do I need to install SS? Do I need to disable xposed if/when I install it?
Ok I'm in SS now and I'm not sure if I should flash over the stock ROM or use a ROM slot. Thoughts? I already made a backup of the entire system and these phones have useless internal memory so I wanted to save space by wiping/installing over the stock ROM. Are there drawbacks to that?
If your rooted, you should have safestrap installed. When you boot your phone do you get a screen that pops up after the S5 screen?
It would show a image and have 2 buttons. One option would be recovery.
I didn't have it but I do now. My main question is about the slots, should I overwrite the stock one or install along side? Don't really have the storage to keep the stock slot but also don't know if doing that will do something irreplaceable.
Since you can load a stock 5.0 rooted ROM I'd do the stock slot... however, that's your call. Make sure you follow instructions to get right kernel and such.
Will you ever need 4.4.4 again ? Even so, long as you don't update the bootloader and can see it in Odin you can always rebuild.
Remember, once your on 5.0 with the newer kernel you can only get to safestrap by flashing the n12 kernel. U can do it by using odin, or lollipop safestrap application if applicable.

I don't think the slots were ever working before the dev quit working on it.
Ok cool, that's what I wound up doing anyway and already had to test my backup to see that it worked (it does). Thanks for the help, I'm now on 5.0 and still rooted. Maybe my next step will be xposed, but the only thing I really used on that was the tethering and it already seems to work in this ROM.
Awesome! Glad to hear all is well.
