Hello All.
I've had my UK, T-Mobile G1 for quite a while now. I have rooted it and it is running the latest CyanogenMod recovery image and ROM. I also have Apps2SD set up on my 8GB SD card, on a 512MB ext partition. This was all working fine until the problems below occurred...
I'm having some problems with several apps and ADB.
My PC runs Windows 7, 64 bit, and I can't seem to find a driver for the G1's ADB. I'm probably being incredibly stupid, but I just can't find one. I have used one before on Vista, where I had to set some boot options, but I'm not too sure / happy about doing that on my nicely functioning Windows 7. And as my friend once said; "You mess around with windows, then windows will mess around with you"...
But, anyway, I can't seem to get ADB working, if someone could either send me a link to the drivers or guide me through it, I'd be grateful...
Also, it may be due to me running CyanogenMod, but if I try to update the Facebook app, it downloads the app, and then when it tries to install, gives me the error "Installation Unsuccessful - Incompatible Update".
And with the Google Maps app, it says "Installation unsuccessful - Package file was not signed correctly". This may be due to me trying to get the hacked version of the app to get the Google Maps Navigation working in the UK, but I couldn't get that to work, so I uninstalled it and Nav Launcher, and now when I try to update from the Market it gives me that error.
I've seen a guide online with ADB commands, but as I have no access to ADB, I'm a tad screwed. I've tried runnign the commands in the Terminal Emulator in the phone, which does approximately nothing whatsoever.
So, can anyone give me any guidance on any of my Android problems?
Thanks in advance - Ethan
To the best of my knowledge no one has successfully used ADB with Windows 7/64bit

Ah. Looks like I'll be reinstalling Ubuntu then for the ADB. Thank you for such a fast response.

In that case, do you remember where you obtained the driver from? I would love a link, or a zip file or something...
I'm on Vista x64 SP2 and I can use ADB just fine. You just need to download the SDK and then get the USB driver through there. It used to come included, but now you need to use the ADV and SDK manager and download the drivers as an SDK Component through there.
After that, make sure your phone is set to USB Debugging mode and plug it in then point windows to the new drivers. If it doesn't want to install the new drivers, you might need to remove the old ones first. I had to use USB Deview (DL link at bottom of page) and removed all installed HTC drivers. After that I plugged my G1 back in, pointed it at the newly downloaded drivers and all was well.
I'm running adb/fastboot/android sdk on win7 64b ultimate. The drivers are included in the sdk download. Once you download the sdk, make sure you have java installed. (I had to install JRE and JDK to get it to work properly, not sure if this was needed) Anyhow, when you have the sdk downloaded, run the sdk setup program. Go to settings and check the box for force update (unsure of the exact terminology used there) then go to available updates and your drivers are the last option on the list.
Ive installed the android sdk and then installed eclipse but i'm not sure whether I have JDK installed or not, Is there some way I can check this ?
Also will it make a difference if I need to install JDK even though eclipse has already been installed. Does the JDK have to be installed in a specific location for eclipse and android sdk to use it properly.
Thank you.
Ar you using windows, linux or Mac?
If you are on a Mac then you do not need to download the JDK because Java is already installed. If you are using Windows then yes, you do need to download the JDK. I'm not sure about Linux.
That said, if you are using Windows and you are unsure whether it is installed then, most likely it is not. Links to the JDK are available on the same Android developer pages where you downloaded the SDK. It doesn't make any difference if you've already installed the other components. Simply download and install the JDK and you should be good to go.
So I'm desperately working to get my n1 installed on either of my machines but it needs the USB driver package in order to install the android 1.0 thing it usually does otherwise it will be unsuccessful (Any other ways to install the n1 would be greatly appreciated) ANYWAYS I just completely removed my SDK from my computer and when I went back in I coudn't help but notice on both of my machines (Xp sp3, Windows 7 ult) there was no USB package.
Am i forgetting something? It's been so long since I've had to do this.
When you unzip the sdk, you have to run SDK Manager in the sdk folder. Ignore the "chose packages to install" window, and take a look at the SDK AVD Manager window. Select Available Packages, then expand the Third Party Add-ons, then expand Google Inc. USB Drivers is the next to last option...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
i also recommend trying out the PDANet drivers. Just install the PDANet application on your PC and it should make sure you have the proper drivers set up. Alternatively, use the "USBdeview" utility to delete all USB drivers related to Android/HTC/adb and then install the PDANet drivers.
Good luck.
Okay, you have installed Froyo but was unable to access it with your PC. This is not actually a solution, I just made this post so it won't be confusing coz I've been looking at other post and all the issues are all mixed-up - it is very confusing.
This is actually a problem for me since I can't use the Market to download applications. I can't use Market because of the WiFi issue so the only solution would be to use PC connection.
If you have any solutions please specify it here.
For the time being, the solution I found didn't work for me but I'll post it here anyway - it might work with you guys.
Probable solution:
Download the Android SDK. (Note: If Java SDK isn't installed in your system then you might be prompted to download it as well, it will automatically prompt you to go there so no need for a link).
Install Android SDK.
After installation, you will be prompted to CHOOSE the package you wan't to be installed in your machine. Approve SDK Platform tools because the INSTALL button will not be activated if you don't choose it and approve. Approve GOOGLE USB Driver Package. REJECT the rest because some of the packages are around 75MB+ and it will take you a lot of time. Just install the rest when you need it.
After installation, it will require you to restart the ADB - just restart it.
Follow instructions in this page -- http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html --.
Hope it works for you guys.
Hello...
I just set up a Windows Phone developer account and registered my phone (HTC 8x) as a developer unlocked phone.
I have build an app with PhoneGap build and I can download the .xap, but I have yet to figure out how to install it.
Using a QR Reader asks if I want to search the store for something to open the file.
I've seen tutorials on how to build a PhoneGap app within Visual Studio.
I haven't seen any means of installing it from PhoneGap Build, though.
Any ideas?
JJ
The SDK installs a tool called Application Deployment on your PC. Run that, connect your phone via USB, and use it to sideload the XAP.
Man, it would be great if you could install them directly from the PhoneGap site (like iOS and Android - I haven't tested Blackberry).
Having to do it from a computer that has, at least, a Core i5 CPU and Visual Studio is kind of jacked.
Also, I can only have 3 developer devices on my account.
Apple allows 99, I think.
Of course, Android doesn't even require to to register a device (just turn on the "install unapproved apps" feature.

You do not need SLAT (i5 CPU) to side load things.
That is for emulators only.
There is homebrew to do that on WP7. We'll just have to figure out a way on WP8. It's not very hard, once we can get the needed permissions.

Well, that's handy to know.
It would still be nice to not require Windows 8 and Visual Studio just to install an app.

And don't need to be a W8, you can install xap's on Windows 7.

Has anyone been able to do this on Windows 7 x64 machine ? I am sure I am just missing something...
I downloaded "Windows Phone Power Tools" after installing .NET 4.5 but, it just gives me an error of "Unable to install or run the applications. The application requires that assembly Microsoft.SmartDevice.Connectivity version 11.0.0.0 be installed in the Global Accembly Cashe (GAC) first." when I attempt to run it..
As most of us know, SDK 8.0 REQUIRES Windows 8, I would love to be able to install XAPs on Windows 7 so I don't have to reboot my PC to use my Windows 8 partition just to install a quick XAP time to time. I can't download or find where to download the full install to extract a few fles as said in the directions...
Any idea to get this installed ?
I didn't get it working with my Windows 7 workstation.
I have a Windows 8.1 laptop, so I just use it.
Being able to do it at work would be nice, though.

Try install SDK7.1

I have SDK 7.1 installed, still can't run Windows Power Tools on Windows 7 x64, I get the same error listed in my past post.

Or use VMware and create a virtual machine with the above requirements.
@DavidinCT @Fa310tx
You can install the WP8 SDK on Windows 7...it works just fine. The secret that Microsoft doesn't want you to know is that the WP8 SDK can be installed on Server 2008 R2...Server 2008 R2 is based on Windows 7 x64. Therefore, it will work with no issues.
