Dead vertical strip on phone - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, yesterday at night I noticed that a small spot on my screen wasn't working. It had J and N soft keys included, I got kind of mad, but just tried to reboot the phone, after rebooting it was fine again for some time, then it just stopped working again. I made a factory reset for the phone and just put it to charge while all the apps that I had were downloading. I wake up in the morning and bam, the vertical line, which used to be like a square on the lower side of screen is all throughout the screen now, rebooting doesn't help... I know that it's most likely a hardware problem, but this nexus is like 2-3 years old so no warranty for me so I'm looking for different solutions... Has anyone encountered this and knows how to solve it?

Upadate:
Soooo, I went outside to work, and when I come back BOOM it's working again, I'm happy, using the phone normally and then boom, massive unstoppable clicks began on one spot, they lasted for like 15seconds (they were all on a single spot) and when they stopped the stripe was dead again... I guess it's hardware playing with me but I'm less and less sure that it's the digitizer itself... Any ideas?

I guess your phone was dropped.
Coz my friend's were having similar symptoms. He took it to repair centres they said display need to be changed etc. He better purchased other cheaper android phone.

Had a similar issue. It will get progressively worse over time. I got mine RMAd by Google.

Bottom of Screen Does Not Calibrate

I recently purchased an MDA off ebay from another member on this site. They claimed everything on it was fine, but upon receiving it I found that the bottom of the screen didn't respond. After playing with the calibration I found that the bottom of the screen wasn't completely "dead" it just thinks its being tapped on a different spot of the screen. The seller claims this is a software issue, but after several flashes from different roms the problem still persists. Has anyone else seen this happen? And does this sound like a hardware issue?
I opened notes and took a picture of what happens when trying to use the scrollbar in landscape mode to show how off the calibration is at the bottom. Thanks in advance for any help I can get on this.

I had this EXACT same problem. I had the mistake of pushing down too hard while applying a screen protector and it pushed in the screen on the bottom. From that point, I could never calibrate the bottom of the screen. I was able to get a replacement, because I told Cingular that it was broken and it was only a month into my contract.
So, I think the guy probably messed up applying a screen protector or accidently somehow pushed in the bottom of the screen. This is in no way a software problem....deff hardware issue.
Thanks for the response. I filed a claim with paypal for a refund. With the way that it was packed I'm amazed the phone works at all!
Im sorry to hear someone trying to get over on you. Hope everything works out.

Screen response problems

My mom's G2 got the 2.3 OTA a week or so ago (maybe two weeks), and ever since then she's been complaining to me about her touchscreen being unresponsive.
I downloaded an app onto her phone called "Touch Test" which displays the points of response of the screen, and well, take a look at the rough re-creation in the screenshots below:
When you draw a line like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This happens:
This is a semi-accurate recreation, but what actually happens is when you draw the line from the top (like say scrolling through something) to the area where the dot is on screenshot 1, the screen registers 4 other "touches" at random locations in that bottom part of the screen (screenshot 2).
At that point, the entire screen except the top half becomes unresponsive, including the capacitive home/menu/back/search buttons, and the only way to bring it back is to lock the screen with the power button and unlock it. The screen then works fine till you scroll again.
I'll try and upload a video of it later this afternoon.
Anybody else seen behavior like this before?
My phone did that to and I had to have it replaced. Something to do with a faulty sensor. Its a known manufacturer defect.

My mom took it to the store today, guy looked at it (luckily, the screen had froze just as we walked in, as she was using it) and said "welp, it's broken. $20 warranty exchange, ships today, 3-5 biz days. have a good day" and now there's a replacement on the way.

Droid X has a splotch on its screen, changes color a bit when I press down on it

Like when you press down on your LCD computer monitor too hard and you can see rainbow like colors under your fingers. I tried to take a picture as best as I could. The phone has never been dropped and I've left it shut off for about a month since I got the Bionic.

What could be causing this??
Here's a video link to explain even further what I mean

Mine did that after I dropped it off a 15 ft scaffolding onto concrete... luckily that's all mine did... 6 months later I got it wet (didn't get the wet sticker wet) and it bootlooped, wouldn't even go into stock recovery, so Verizon luckily replaced it (I was 2 days before my 1 year warranty ran out thank God) oh by the way I was stock unrooted, never sbf'ed or anything until I got my replacement phone

My friends was doing this same thing... the Verizon Rep told him that it had to do with the extended battery being too big and pushing on the components inside the phone against the screen... he demonstrated by taking the battery door off and pushing on the battery itself and causing the same "rainbow " effect as when he touched the screen... long story short they are sending him a new phone

LG G2 VS980 Horizontal Lines after Drop

Soooo... My wife dropped her VS980 for the first time in 2 years. All seemed fine (hell I've dropped phones countless times) at least for an hour or two.
We got home and her screen started to do this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So, I researched it and found that insulation of some screen components in the phone are very important to keep insulated. So I popped it open, and it looked fine. But I threw a piece of electrical tape between the components regardless:
Phone still does the lines. A few key notes: Dark backgrounds don't really affect it, turning brightness up high really sets it off, if I cycle the screen on and off it seems to go away, for a few seconds at least, before it starts creeping back into the screen.
Any thoughts? I was hoping if I powered down and left it inactive maybe it would give the LCD time to reset? Sounds stupid though. Could it be anything else? GPU? Bad luck?

Bought a new LCD from Fixez.com. Just arrived today. Hopefully this corrects the issues. I'll let you all know if it does.

UPDATE: The new screen worked perfectly. Took me about an hour, and was able to get it completely changed. Working great now. I hope this helps anyone troubleshooting screen issues!

Blue smudge spot on screen

Hello - my phone is 1.5 years old and suddenly I have faint blue spot on my screen, mostly visible on white background. It's been there for a week ...

Any ideas if there is a way to fix this?
Tap it fast and gently on the 'smudge' for a minute or so. If there is any improvement, keep doing it till it disappears. If not, get a new screen.

Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Thanks for the tip but It doesn't seem to change anything.
If it doesn't spread I might keep it that way because changing the screen would cost me near what I paid for the phone!

could be delimitation, which means you need a new screen.
However try a screen calibration app first.
2nd a factory reset (this calibrates the screen on newer versions of Android)
if that doesn't work you probably need a new screen
The same issue arised for my screen, but it is fainter, think it is screen issue because when I was tapping screen during restart that part had a strange response. It appeared almost suddenly for me, any fix?
