need help with flashing stock rom - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello, long time didnt touch my nexus 4, and here are the details:
nexus 4
android 4.4.4
kernel version: 3.4.0-perf-ga6edd5e [email protected]
no root
recovery: CWM v 6.0.2.0
i tried to flash the latest stock rom without success, theres 5 img files that need to be flashed while CWM can't flash img files.
also i cant connect the device to my pc (i think the usb plug of the nexus is broken or something..) so i work with air droid.
what should i do? i want to get the device running latest stock rom + stock recovery or at least latest stock rom + twrp

You need to flash the factory images with fastboot, not a custom recovery. See this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34552123. Also, use twrp not cwm.

Yes, you'd need to boot into the bootloader and connect to your pc. Alternatively try this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...recovery-twrp-2-7-1-0-touch-recovery-t2002326

Well what were you expecting when you wiped the system?
Do you still have the zip of cm on the phone? If you do just flash it.
U need to flash factory images via fastboot.Search the forum to know how to do it.Btw if u have a rom zip in sdcard, try flashing it if u can access recovery.

I can't do ****. I can't even get to recovery menu. Only Google-screen. No zip on phone also. Nexus 4 Toolkit sees the phone, but says its offline...

1. Uninstall the toolkit
2. Boot the phone into the bootloader (volume down + power)
3. Read this guide and flash the stock images.
I just got into download mode - what is it?
Its the mode to flash stock firmwares.. follow the tutorial in the link buddy...

Flashed kit kat rom, no recovery.

I flashed a kit kat ROM earlier to play around on, and when I was rebooting I accidentally hit the wrong button in cwm to not reflash recovery. Now I don't have recovery anymore, and I don't have access to a computer so I can flash the PA version of Kit Kat. ROM manager will not flash recovery for me. Is there anything I can do to get recovery without a computer?

you can flash the twrp recovery via the goo manager app.
Do you think flashing recovery through adb would work getting recovery?
Sent from my AOSP on Mako using xda app-developers app
well, if you have access to a computer use fastboot. you can probably flash via adb as well.
I wont have access to a computer for a few hours but I'm thinking that's my best bet, as I don't have root

you don't need root to fastboot either, you just need to boot into the bootloader. of course, and have the drivers installed in the computer. same for adb.

From the looks of it, my computer wont recognize fastboot commands in either OSX or Windows. I've installed the necessary files on both OS's and still nothing.
Well I was able to "flash" it, but it didn't actually flash. Still the dead android with the red triangle.
EDIT: I can get to the menu by pressing power+volume up. is there anything I can do there to help?
Did you try flashing a recovery from Recovery Tools aplication?
You will find it in Play store.

I was in the same situation you were.
Do these things:
1. Install the drivers for ur N4.i used Wug's toolkit ONLY TO INSTALL THE DRIVERS.
2. Next set up your fastboot.
3. Download the the latest CWM recovery (i think it was 6.0.4.3 touch).
4. "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
5. Voila! U got your recovery back.
6. (optional) Download the SuperSU 1.65 version and flash it via recovery.
Hit the thanks if i helped!

I've tried that. When after I flash in fastboot and hit start in the bootloader, it starts into android and not into recovery. Should I click recovery instead of start?

Well one would assume clicking on recovery would send the phone into recovery, instead of start. PS. When you see the Android with red icon, you are looking at the stock recovery itself, so no, you do have (stock) recovery on your phone.
I tried that, and it worked. However, the only thing I can flash is my backup. Attempting to flash a different rom, like the 4.4 PA doesn't flash it, just leaves that same 4.4 rom.

Same here. Goo hasn't worked for me for several months now. Pretty much given up on it.

Hi, joshag....
If your Nexus 7 is already rooted, you can use the apps, Flash Image GUI or Flashify to flash a Custom Recovery directly from the Nexus 7 itself.
Just install one of them (personally I prefer Flashify)... download the TWRP Recovery Image file appropriate to your particular Nexus 7 (links below)... and then use Flashify or Flash Image GUI... the on screen instructions are pretty self explanatory, just ensure you pick the FLASH RECOVERY option, and then navigate to the folder on your Nexus 7 where the TWRP recovery image downloaded to... (usually the /download folder).
So... no PC or fastboot required... just a rooted Nexus 7. (If you aren't already rooted, you're out of luck I'm afraid).
I use this method myself quite frequently, particularly when I can't be bothered booting up my laptop.

That's a contradiction. Need to flash stock everything, even the recovery. Once you do that, and the phone is running correctly, then you basically start over again.

nop i see the dead android but im not able to eneter recovery mode ill check and flash again latest 4.4.4 and see again ? if i can enter recovery right now i am on 4.3 cant enter recovery mode
OP, have you experienced also problems with your Nexus screen?
If you want to go in recovery mode you can :
Install Nexus Root Toolkit
Install drivers USB
On your phone : boot into Bootloader
In NRT :
Advanced utilities : Launch
In Advanced utilities :
Boot / Flash Image
Boot (Temporary)
choose openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-mako.img in C:\Program Files (x86)\WugFresh Development\data\Recovery_Custom\TWRP
You will be in TWRP

[Q] what am I doing wrong? (trying to get the gpe rom working - i337)

I have an i337. Never had any OTAs. I was using a recovery that would 'auto-loki' so I never had to flash the lokidoki zip before.
I'm trying to install the latest GPE by Danvdh and I keep ending up booting into twrp(2.6.0.0).
I wipe all that one would normally wipe.
Then I flash the ROM.
The aroma installer starts, I've tried the googy kernal and (mostly) the stock kernal.
I uncheck the reboot now option at the end of the aroma installer to get back into twrp
I then flash the lokidoki zip.
I reboot and get kicked back into the recovery.
I'm thinking I may need a newer version of TWRP, but I'm not sure. I dont want to use odin to get back on jellybean just to update the recovery unless I know that's the issue.
the loki zip is ~10MB
Any info is much appreciated. I've been at this for hours.
You need a newer version of twrp. You don't need to use Odin. Look for the flashify app in the play store.

If you can find a zip. I'd make one for you, they're easy once you know how, but I'm traveling on business and don't have access to a computer.
