Help on Unlocking Note 4 SM-N910P Sprint - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Need your help. I have a Note 4, Sprint locked, model number SM-N910P, Lollipop Version 5.1.1. I would like it to be unlocked so I can use it in the Philippines. I see a thread that I need to downgrade the ROM then use SSU.apk. When I am trying to have it downgraded, Odin was not able to finish the Job. It always fails with and NAND Write error (auth).
I tried all SM-N910P 4.4. versions and all Odins versions but no luck.
I appreciate any responses and assistance with this.
Thanks,

Youre on the OG5 bootloader and you can not downgrade from that bootloader. not even to 5.0.1 lollipop bootloaders.
Might wanna go into Security and uncheck Reactivation Lock as well.

[Q] Downgrade to older stock ROM N9005?

Hey all!
Is it possible to downgrade from a newer (NE3) firmware to an older (ND3) through Odin or it will brick my phone because of the bootloader?
The only things I know are that 1) Downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3 is not possible 2) It's possibile to install a custom older rom on new bootloader and vice versa BUT I don't know if it's possible with stock roms with Odin.
I looked for a solution but nothing found and no one answered me so I opened this thread to find out a solution.
Thanks in advance.
UP still interested because NE4 + custom kernel gives problems that others doesn't have

I never actually tried going back to an older version but I really don't see why you shouldn't. As long as it's KitKat 4.4.2 just try it should work. I downgraded my Modem and haven't had any issue.
With the Bootloader worry...did you even change the bootloader? As well as the Modem you have to do that separate to the Rom, as flashing a Rom doesn't touch Modem an Bootloader!!! If you don't know how to do that please just leave it alone though unless you read, read, read a lot on how to do that.

Thanks for the reply, every time I install a new rom I make sure to update the bootloader and modem too, and from what I can read from the Synapse app I have the NE3 modem and NE4 bootloader.
I'm asking how to go back to older roms because going from 4.4.2 to 4.3 updating the bootloader with Odin you obtain only a fancy paper weight, and I didn't know if going from newer to older 4.4.2 bootloader it was the same story.

I'm pretty sure there won't be an issue mate since I flash between custom roms almost daily which are most of the time different models. If you want to be 100% sure wait for someone to confirm as I'm rooted since I got the chance to do so.
Thanks to the developer Civato I read on his FlexKat thread he correctly downgraded his bootloader from NE6 to ND6 with Odin...
So problem solved, this is definitely possible.
Thank you everyone for your replies :good:
Downgrading bootloaders on the same version generally tends to work OK, mainly because on 4.3 Samsung patched the security flaw which stopped you going <MJ7
Kith Kitkat I never had any issues flipping back and forth.--- Until it's a BL upgrade with OS Number change (IE: 4.4.3 if it has new BL) then it shouldn't work.
hi. sorry, this is probably an old thread but I need some help, please and somehow,Google got me here. I want to downgrade (not really downgrade) my N9005 to 4.4.2.
I currently have a custom ROM(resurrection remix v5.6.9,in settings it says that I have android 6.0.1 marshmallow). Also,I have a custom recovery(TWRP). Well,I would like to install the KitKat stock ROM and really did a lot of research but I cannot find it anywhere :'( . Do you know any source? And also, can I flash it with mobile ODIN? When I opened Mobile Odin Pro it said that if I don't have the boot loader for the ROM I want to install then I will experience a soft brick. Isn't TWRP a good boot loader?
Also, does it matter what version of N9005 I own? mine is: XXUGBOJ1. Could I flash smth that is not for this ..base band is it called?...
pls help
I'm such a newbie and I don't wanna mess up

4.4.4 -> 4.4.2 Odin Fail

Hey XDA, new here but long-time lurker, I like many am stuck with 4.4.4 on my n900v and am looking for a way out. So far the only promising thing I've seen is the video for the n900a (which ihas locked bootloader as well?). I got all the files replaced for the n900v version to at least get back from 4.4.4. to 4.4.2 but Odin is failing with the sw rev check fail fused 4 binary 3 error. I am using the stock NC4 fimware and have tried several downloads, I've tried Odin 3.10 and 3.09 and made sure running in admin and everything checked that's needed. I also made sure my phone has USB debugging enabled and Unknown Sources checked. I've read that I should try a custom rom but assume that with my locked bootloader that wouldn't work either. The n900a has a locked bootloader as well I believe which is why I thought that if I replaced the files with Verizon versions the instructions in the video would work.
Is there any way back to 4.4.2 from 4.4.4 on the n900v or am I screwed? Thanks! :fingers-crossed:

Such helpful, many wows....
But serious why can AT&T Note 3 be downgraded with a locked Bootloader but Verizon can't?
Because it can't read the other hundred posts in regards to this
Just thank verizon for this mess.
Because 4.4.4 has a different bootloader which blocks out downgrading to 4.4.2. That's why you can't go back to 4.4.2 once you go to 4.4.4 and more than likely whenever Lollipop comes (rather if be 5.0.x or 5.1) they will more than likely block downgrading to 4.4.x or whatever on that too.
Yes I understand the whole locked bootloader part, just confused on why you can downgrade AT&T's which is locked also I thought? Wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything but looks like Im SoL like the rest of ya. (No wonder so grumpy). Thanks. :crying:

Because AT&T and Verizon are two different companies who have 2 different requirements for their phones even if from the same manufacturer.
Verizon requires their updates to not be downgrade able while AT&T apparently doesn't have that requirement.

Use this guide from Droidstyle, ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46461911), which should help you restore the phone back to factory stock 4.4.2 NC4. Then (like BladeRunner said), you can use Towelroot to gain root access. Just don't update the phone to any Android versions past 4.4.2 or you will lose ability to root, as there's no current root method for 4.4.4 for our phones.

Anyway to Downgrade from 5.1.1 (COJ5) to 5.0.1 ?! N910C

can i downgrade from 5.1.1 N910CXXU2COJ5 to any 5.0.1 ?
If Yes , How can i do so please
Why i want to do so , i want to run MIUI
no one knows !
I'm having the same problem here. After the OTA update to COJ5, Odin always fail to flash any ROM before COJ5 (device display the message sw rev.check fail device 2 binary 1). Also, all the root methods that worked on COJ4 stopped working in this new version, always resulting in a infinite bootloop forcing me to reflash COJ5 in Odin. I even went to TWRP and completely wiped my phone (including system) but still coudn't install any previous version (installing the SuperSU through TWRP also results in infinite bootloop now). Did anyone find a solution for this yet? I'm guessing that this won't be a problem for just Galaxy Note 4....

Well, while [5.1.1 COJ4] can be downgraded to 5.0.1, [5.1.1 COJ5] can't. The problem may be exactly the bootloader that cannot be downgraded through ODIN. I don't believe that any common procedure will work for this downgrade. We will likely need a different approach.
I also read in some forum that while Odin won't work anymore, TWRP (or CWM) still will. So this leads to other two questions:
* Is there any place we can download stock roms in recovery format instead of ODIN's?
* If not, is there any way we can convert Stock Roms from ODIN's format to TWRP's?

Sadly no. I'm still believe that the best (if not the only way) right now is through JTAG.
Excluding direct access to the internal SD Card, the only way to overwrite the protected memory in the device is through the bootloader, which is protected itself.
I did managed to downgrade my note 4 N910U from 5.1.1 to 5.0.1.

Root New Galaxy S5 with Android 5.0 delivered

Hey Guys,
I am a proud owner of a new S5 and I am no root newby as I had any other android devices before.
I read that it was possible to downgrade to 4.2 ANE2 Bootloader in order to root with Towelroot, so I might not trigger KNOX
But I read that the ne Models of the S5 have a locked bootloader, so a downgrade to ANE2 is not possible anymore.
Is this strill true?
I would love to see my Phone rooted but if its not possilble (its still in my package lol) I would rather send it back and decide for another phone -.- since I would like to keep my warranty intact.
Appreciate any answers
Regards!
the first thing when you ask put max information about your phone lol y know s5 have many series 900f 900h 900a and ....
Yup, need the model S5 first, then we can check if it can be rooted or not

Flash this with ODIN
http://download.chainfire.eu/397/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.zip
If that doesn't work, flash TWRP 2.8.7.0 with ODIN, then flash SuperSu.zip from TWRP recovery
As I said in my beginning post. I would like to have my warranty intact, so I guess rooting with CF Auto Root is not the best Idea, isn't it? (It triggers KNOX)
My Problem is simply, that I would like to know if a downgrade to an earlier bootloader is still possible if the device is delivered with Android 5.0.
You are describing the procedure for towelrooting......flashing an older kernel, using Towelroot and then re - flashing your original kernel. This has worked for many people (myself included) who were on KitKat before they rooted.......
You are on lollipop, this method won't work for you as flashing a KK kernel onto a lollipop firmware will more than likely make the phone unbootable. .....meaning you won't be able to use towelroot at all.
If you want rooted lollipop and knox at 0x0, you'll have to downgrade the entire firmware to KK, towelroot it and use Flashfire to return to your original but root injected lollipop firmware.

- openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.0-gt-klte.tar
- twrp-2.8.7.0-klte.img
Which should i use?

@triceraptor The 2.8.7.0 seems to be the only version of TWRP that works with some Lollipop firmwares too......
The 'img' file you quoted won't work with odin....you need the .tar version.
Also, make sure re-activation lock is off before you start......otherwise this WILL interfere with the flash.
You *should* be able to find it under....

Hey! Thanks for your post!
My problem is, that it is mentioned that you cannot fully downgrade to KK because the new Devices with Lolli have a locked bootloader. And with that, downgrading to an older KK OS will not do anything because with a modern bootloader its not possible to use towlroot.
So my original intention was simply to find out if it is true - Do the new devices have a locked loader or not.
If your option works, I am glad to try it out, but with a locked loader your advice seems kind of complicated.
To the best of my knowledge. locked bootloaders are carrier specific......
AT&T and (I believe) Verizon are the primary culprits.....There may be 'enhanced security' on newer bootloaders/firmware, but that's a separate issue. If your device is the 'F' variant, which is used mainly in Europe and the UK, a locked bootloader shouldn't be an issue.....It *might* be necessary to flash a .pit file simultaneously to the downgrade though, just to make sure that *every* trace of the LP firmware is removed (this isn't required every time, but is there as an option if needed).
However you play it, it would be best to keep checking to see that re-activation lock is disabled, as this will only lead to issues if it becomes enabled.

I agree with Kieth. I was 90% sure it was carrier specific. You could use the towel root method, but I have rooted my phone the Cf way, and already get 0x1 so there is no point for me. You should be able to flash an older firmware. Then just reset all data and reboot good as old.

So I tried to downgrade but my screen of my new 900f stays totally black after downgrading.
I found a thread with the same problems - btw u participated in it as well- http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help/custom-recovery-protection-samsung-t3135004/page8
Do you know any solutions for it? I would really like to use the towlroot method
Did you downgrade with or without pit?
As I mentioned in my earlier reply, the pit will erase EVERY trace of the old firmware from the device. Just make sure you get the CORRECT pit as flashing the wrong pit has the *potential* to permanently brick your device.

I haven't tried it with a PIT file yet, but ins on my schedule for tomorrow!
Just in Case - I search for tutorials right now - do I have to flash the pit simultaneously or is there any special order I have to do it?
With all my past devices I never had to put so much effort for a root -.-"
Lol.....newer device = bigger headache.
Yes the pit is flashed simultaneously....
Load it into odin as a file with pit extension (kinda obvious that one lol) and then load the firmware tar.....and flash.
Can't stress this enough though.......
MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CORRECT PIT.....

Hey! Same problem again. I had to send the device with the working downgrade back, because the mic was defect -.-
Now I tried to do the Same stuff with PIT file, but this time the Phone screen stays black
(Downgrade to ANE with Pit file. No Samsung Logo and nothing...have to geht to the Downgrad Menu blind in order to Flash the old 5.0 LP OS. Then it works again)
Do you have and other advices for me?

CQA1 Firmware *safe upgrade* SM-N910V

This is just a safe upgrade to the latest CQA1 firmware for the SM-N910V. If you are already on 6.0 with an unlocked bootloader you can flash this to update. It will not lock your bootloader or overwrite your custom recovery. I slightly debloated it but other than that it's completely stock and still odexed.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Boot to recovery and do a complete wipe (everything except your internal and external sd card)
- Power off device and pull battery for at least 3 seconds
- Boot into Download mode and connect phone to your computer
-Start Odin and place the tar file in the AP slot
-Once Odin says it's ready just press start and let it do it's thing
CQA1 FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD
If you would like to run stock you can download and flash SuperSu for root and also Busybox by Osmosis
Thanks will try later!
Thanks, I'll give it a look over.

No buddy there isn't. The issues you'll have will vary when trying to upgrade the firmware without updating the bootloader. Mostly wifi related and brightness issues. All of the safe upgrades remove the aboot so it wouldn't update your bootloader.
Delete - double post
OK, I am on BPA1. Lollipop - Marshmallow combo. Bootloader unlocked, root, etc. Running the 05/24/2016 Hsbadr CM 13.1 build. Can, I flash this and keep the unlocked bootloader or do I have to go through the whole downgrade to the BPA1 firmware, re-root and all that jazz? I just can't believe there is not an easier way to get to Marshmallow-Marshmallow since the bootloader is unlocked.

Yes . doesn't contain aboot :victory: but the bootloader didn't change it isn't necessary or particularly useful unless you wanted to builds a touchwiz based ROM and wanted to use the most recent base .

And no lol if you took the safe upgrade from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 (via the lollipop ROM on marshmallow toolchain) you are currently on an up to date bootloader it is unneccesarry to repeat the unlock procedure and no this doesn't lock your bootloader . it isn't rooted however you would need to flash that but it is a one and done via twrp . kingroot wasn't needed.
successfully unlocked on 910V but want to know
Can I flash 910F stock firmware via odin on my unlocked verizon 910V note 4. I want to convert it to GSM phone. Should I need to install custom recovery or permanent root before for this. Or is it possible and safe to convert without loosing sim connectivity. Please help.
Hello everyone! Been quite a while since I've been on here. I have been on the Kyubi ROM since the BL unlock was achieved on our Note4. IMO, it has been a pretty stellar ROM. Been using it ever since. Now, I have decided to upgrade the device.
I want to upgrade to at least a 6.0 ROM and I am on 5.1.1 BL version is BPA1, PDA version is BOK3 and Baseband Version is BPA1 as well, rooted and BL is unlocked.
My question is can I do this "CQA1 Firmware *safe upgrade* SM-N910V" in the OP without any problems?
Thanks in advance for any and all help with this...

No, unfortunately there currently isn't an easier process than the one that is outlined in this thread. I had some different intentions with this firmware when I was putting it together and some personal stuff came up so I just posted it as is but you'll need to update your bootloader or you'll have wifi issues with the 6.0 roms.
It's my understanding, though I haven't tested it personally, that's not the case for the 7.0 aosp roms. From what I've read there's been people running those on the bpa1 bootloader.

So can you tell me if this is where I would start first, since I am on Baseband version BPA1 with root and Unlocked BL i copied the following below from the instructions from the link you provided.
"Extract and flash N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVRU2CPD1_FullFirmware.tar.md5 via Odin
This will make you on Lollipop with Marshmallow bootchain/firmware/modem, which is rootable."
Sorry for the noob like questions. I've just been away too long and I really don't want to screw this up lol. I do appreciate all your help though.

No problem. Yes if you're already unlocked on bpa1 then just go ahead and Odin the firmware you mentioned (N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVRU2CPD1_FullFirmware.tar.md5). Once you get that booted up then it's just a matter of repeating the same process as before with the LP bootloader. Keep in mind that you won't have wifi when you flash that firmware so you may want to have a copy of kingroot on your internal sdcard ready to go. Then I usually reference this post here on out. There's a couple threads on this subject but I feel like they have some unnecessary steps involved whereas that post really cuts to the meat of it in my opinion.
@kevintm78 Thanks so much. In your opinion, is there really any difference between LP and MM? I really do appreciate your help.
