Devs: Is it possible to make a widget that has tabs? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like a widget that has tabs that I could put other widgets on. I know that there are a number of launchers that allow one to have multiple screens, but I had a widget with tabs in the old Windows Mobile days and I miss it. So, is what I am looking for possible? Does something already exist? Anyone interested in creating such a beast if it doesn't already exist?
Thanks,

aditional pulldown "tray"?

The notifications tray is great, easily pops down most of the time and the apps tray (with ALL the apps) is just as nice.
But i would like a extra tray for settings and/or favorite apps instead of clogging the "desktop" with shortcuts.
like a tray that flips out from the side of the screen.
is it even possible to add a off-screen container such as the above mentioned dropdown/up trays?
and if yes, are there any available at this time?
I know this isn't going to answer your query, but what is wrong with just populating one of your home screens with shortcuts?
I mean, if you do this with one of the screens either side of the "centre" home screen, you effectively get what you require.
Regards,
Dave
I do use the screens as placeholders for my everyday apps, but most of the time i need a app thats on another screen, meaning i have to go look for it.
With a pulldown tray that would pop out from the side, i could keep my most used apps more conviniently located, just a tap away, instead of 1 to 6 swipes away.
since the apps and notifications are dropdown/up i feel its missing dropdown left/right, witch is the real reason im wondering.
it would be great with apps on one side and settings on the other, then i wouldnt use more than one or two homescreens for widgets only.
I seem to recall one of the home replacement apps had this...I can't recall which.
I know, what you mean.
It's not so nice, to put hundreds of widgets and Shortcuts on the screen.
I don't like it on Windows Desktop, too.
Therefor, I have loaded Apps Organizer from Market.
I put my Apps in 5 Folders, sorted.
Is that something to try for you?

I love it, really.
Perfect thanks

I recently converted from a strictly WinMo user to Android and having struggled to find apps stored on my phone because of a lack of folder organisation, am thrilled to find this app. Many thanks!

actually you can do that with the stock sense widgets, as there are folders for the homescreen. afaik they don't support custom icons though.

[Q] [Help] Elelinux 3.1 (2.3.5) missing widgets?

Hey guys I wanted to make this post in the forum for his rom but I'm so new it won't let me so I thought I'd do it here. I have just today rooted my HTC Hero GSM phone and installed the new v3.1 rom from elelinux. Everything works fine but I'm just missing 2 widgets.
When I was running v2.1-update1 i had it so that one of the home screens had a full screen bookmark widget and another one had a full screen (well I mean so big you couldn't actually place another shortcut or anything on that screen) widget for my text messages. I know that the rom has both txt message app and a bookmarks section in the browser but before I could put both of these on the home screens and when I go to widgets from the home screen those two are missing from the list.
Can anyone help me out how to find it if I am missing it, or can you point me in the right direction?
I think those are sense widgets you refer to. Won't get these on aosp but there are similar alternatives on the market
I have the same issue... and I don't think it's related to Sense apps. I have tried to download, for example, "Laik Agenda widget", that works perfectly in other non-sense android phones, does not appear in the list.
I have also tried with 4 or 5 different calendar widgets, and no luck.

I had a same problem. Are you using elelinux ROM like OP?If you do, then go to settings>applications>manage apps>choose widget that you want and tap on it> then tap move to phone and thats it.That was the problem when I couldnt see some widgets, downloaded from market, in the list.

[Q] Launcher Pro = Missing motorola widgets?

After installing Launcher Pro and using it for a while I love it, but I can`t seem to find any of my motorola/blur widgets anymore. They are in neither the widgets list, nor the launcher pro widgets list. I`ve done some googling around and have seen people complaining that some of the widgets don`t resize properly (or didn`t when the forum threads I found were made) but I can`t seem to find them at all.
Looked around a bit and did some other searching but all the results I`ve found have been dealing with problems resizing/widgets not rendering properly after some amount of time.
Running a rooted bell atrix with 2.3.4.
Any idea what`s going on?
like HTC widgets, you cannot use motorola widgets on a different launcher. you will have to go back to the default homescreen to use them.
which moto widget were you trying to use? They were all easily replaceable with better widgets such as Android Pro Widgets
the motorola works for me on launcherpro; the only widget that doesn't work is the world clock (but it works on adw)
the motorola widgets will be found under just "widgets" instead of a separate motorola/blur category.

Is there a way to hide widgets in the drawer?

I've never been a huge fan of the Android 4.0+ way of choosing widgets, it's slow and I think the old list was easier and faster. I also think the old way collapsed several sizes of the same widget into one list option, making it cleaner. Well, this problem is now worse on the Nexus 10 because apps offer so many sizes of widgets for tablets. Not only that, but it makes no sense that they offer the different sizes in the first place, since they're resizable. I shouldn't see "Calendar 2x3", "Calendar 4x4", "Calendar 5x5", I should just see "Calendar". Anyway, this really clutters the widget drawer and makes me have to flip past tons of pages to get to what I want. Is there any way to hide unnecessary widgets from here to help this problem?
Thanks.

[Q] Homescreen App Folder like functionality in widget?

Hi all, I am trying to develop a widget that works similar to the App Folder that comes standard with android. The functionality is that you can drag and drop apps into a folder so that your homescreen is a bit more organized. Is it possible to create a widget that can accept a drop of another application?
I have done a lot of searching on google and have come up short. Any help is appreciated.

AFAIK, there's no way of doing this except with building your own home screen launcher since (most) Android launchers move widgets out of the way if you drag a shortcut on them (JB+) and do not pass any event or call to the widget (all versions).
You can, however, create that Widget and in the setup screen show a check list with all apps so the user can choose there which apps they want in the folder.

That's a good idea. :good:
Yeah, as far as I know there is no way to do this, too.
Thanks guys. I do currently have an app Chooser available to populate my current widget. I was just looking for a way to make it easier to add apps to the widget.
After searching around and trying different things I figured it wasn't possible but never found any info good or bad so I figured I would ask the experts.
Thanks again for your help! :good:
