Woah nice. I would like to know more about your setup, please. I couldn't care less what launcher I use. I thought using the default one is the more battery friendly, but I'm open to other option if that's not the case.
It seems also better working if you shut down the phone during night. Maybe the battery can rest a bit
Edit : I feel also improvement Nova launchers.
Sad that the gestures are not working with the default Nova Launcher.
I am nearly a 5 hours SOT and i never succeeded so far. I have 20% battery remaining.
I have installed Tap screen ON/Off to at least be able to unlock the phone with double tap.
The issue is that Tap screen is always awake and so taking lot of battery when the screen if off. No choice, going back to stock launcher, at least there the gestures are not consuming the battery when the screen if off.
If anyone has a better software gesture to lock and unlock with double tap, feel free to update.
I read that the paid version of Nova launcher has the double tap to wake up. You'll still need the doble tap the notification bar to make it sleep though. Give it a try.
And zenui interface consuming almost 150mb from background

Could you confirm this that the gestures are working ? If it is the case, i will then buy the paid version.
I only saw on internet double tap to sleep the phone, not to make him awake.
I am testing Hola launcher which is quiet good, i see just that the System UI is taking a bit more CPU but when the phone is off, nothing is awake.
Hole launcher is really light but i don't think i will have battery improvement with this launcher.

double tap to wake: built in with the stock ROM
double to sleep: just configure the double tap gesture inside NOVA settings > gestures and inputs.
you may download screen on off and assign it in double tap or just use greenify's shortcut to hybernate and lock screen.
Thanks, it works wonderfull, i will see how long my battery does now remain.

I'm using Nova prime, but I can't find the sleep action on double tap gesture. What am I missing?

Or you can look to previous posts.
... nothing to configer in Nova for tap2sleep - works out of the box - when configerd in system-settings
... only in the statusbar
What's wrong with Google now launcher I think it's a better alternative to the stock launcher.

I'm using Action Launcher, it has doubletap2sleep in all the screen, but I don't know wether it enhances battery life or not.

great.
Indeed, Nova is nearly stopping battery drain, i feel the difference. I can now browse on the internet and notice the number of the battery is not getting so fast lower.
There is clearly an issue in the stock launcher.

double tap to sleep works from the lockscreen but once in Nova, double tapping the screen does nothing and there is no sleep setting in the gesture settings...
THIS SEEMS TO BE A FIX FOUND ON REDDIT
Grab this app
Open Nova settings
Gestures and Buttons
Double tap
Apps -> Screen Off
Okay I have tried Nova Launcher for a week or so now, and I think I might be staying.
I initially just wanted to test it for the claim of extra battery life, but now that I'm using it, it's just way better than the stock launcher.
As for the claim to better battery life, I havent noticed any difference. Yet, i hope.

What would I be losing if I changed my default launcher to Nova? One thing I noticed immediately is the double tap to sleep function (anyone know how I enable it as a Nova gesture?). Am I losing any if the other Lg functionality like quick window or slideaside?
Also which launcher is more battery and ram friendly.

There is a wonderful app called "Screen Off and Lock" by Katecca that will let you use your double tap to turn the screen off anywhere like before.
Been using it with Nova Launcher on my G2 for a long time, works flawlessly.
Play link: Screen Off and Lock
I've seen a few people mention reluctance moving onto a 3rd party launcher because you lose the ability to turn off your screen by double tapping but there is a way you can do this with Nova and or other third party launchers with gesture controls.
1) Download a free app called Screen Off from Google Play and set it up
2) Set your Double Tap setting to launch Screen Off
Your screen will now turn off just as if you were using the LG launcher.
Alternatively, and with no need for a third party app, just double tap the status (notifications) bar

Or also at the navigation bar with tweaksbox.
Nova launcher comes with gestures where you can set to double tap anywhere to screen off.

Actually it doesn't (unless you're rooted maybe?)
Gestures that you can setup in native Nova do not include screen off.

Correct.....
The only way to do this is with a third-party app which I explained to everyone (thank you by the way for your thanks) in a different topic here.
For me, I just have xposed>gravity box
and go to nova sett.>gestures(need prime)>double-tap>shortcuts>gravity box>screen off.
DONE.

I have not been able to get the double tap gesture in nova to work at all. I've tried setting it to multiple different actions or apps, and no matter how fast or slow I double tap nothing happens. All other gestures work fine. For the time being I've settled with double swiping down to activate Screen Off.
Has anyone else had this problem with their G3 and Nova?

Look at my post above (post 6 in this topic) and click on the link I give.
This will take you to the topic where I mention what app to install and what actions you need to carry out in order to make it work.
Works fine for me. So far I have never pressed the power button on my G3.
Action Launcher Pro supports Double Tap to lock screen feature.
The problem I am facing with nova, apex...etc that I have exchange security enabled by my employer, all the guesters and third party apps that i tried is locking the phone with the Pin not just shutting the screen, the double tab on the stock launcher shuts the screen but does not lock the phone.
Did anyone find a work around using third party launcher or app ?
Thanks

Sorry Shortcuts
KK Launcher is pretty comparable to Nova and Apex, and it has native support built into it to double-tap your screen to turn the screen off. I've been using this launcher with my Nexus 5 for a while now and have been quite happy with it (compared to Nova). (I'm supposed to get my G3 later today, so I can't speak as to how KK Launcher performs on it yet).

That's exactly why I use the Touchdown app for my exchange mail. Don't have to worry about the exchange security requirement taking over my darn phone...

I believe the latest beta version of G3 TweaksBox has a setting to get around the security features when using Exchange. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792242
Thanks a million, its working like charm, now i can use whatever launcher.
I have Nova as well and works fine just double tapping the status bar. Seemingly works better than LG'S...
Seams like there are a lot of different ways that everyone has to do this.
For me, I have been using Tasker to get double tap off with Nova Launcher gestures since the G2. Tasker is such a great app with about a million uses, I highly recommend everyone check it out. I have it setup to auto connect to different wifi's depending on my location, adjust screen brightness/ringer volumes depending on the time of day, and many others.
Action launcher is the best
I've tried loads of launchers right now and none of them seem to make the phone go to sleep if I double tap the screen.
I know that you can double tap the notification bar to make it go to sleep but that's terrible. It's uncomfortable to try and do so since my hands are not that big.
Nova Prime, add Screen Off app on Gestures in Nova Settings.
Most do not by default.
Action Launcher does have an option to turn screen off in settings. I use it on my Nexus 7.
Nova has options for Double Tap, but requires a "Screen Off" app from the Play Store. Pretty simple and works great.
I have found other launchers that have "Screen Off" as options too. They just aren't enabled by default.
Action launcher 3, gestures setting (double/triple tap on screen or on home button, swipes, etc.).
Just use Lock Screen App and problem solved. It works flawlessly.

If you are on AOSP, there should be SlimActions (and screenoff there) included, which might be used in f.e Nova's launcher double tap gesture
Nova. It just works, no additional app needed. Double tap on notification bar.
That was not the question. Double tab on notification bar is different from tapping somewhere on the screen.
Smart launcher + secure settings dose the job for me

Do you have nova setting an administrator account? Nobody else has been able to get knock off in nova to work without either hitting the status bar or setting an administrator account which overrides the fingerprint sensor.
To turn the screen off using the KnockOn feature, I double tap the status bar. (using Nova launcher)

I knock the status bar. I thought that's how it works. But I never even tried the stock launch so maybe it works everywhere.

Ok thats why I asked if he's using the stock launcher. In that one you can knock anywhere.
Go to Settings > Display and scroll down to make sure the Knock On feature toggle is turned on.

Thanks but I have that turned on and I'm using Nova Launcher.
I use Nova Launcher as well and have had no problems with either knocking on or off. You probably already know this, but just in case....
There is also a setting in Nova Launcher that assigns what Nova does when you double tap. It's in Nova Settings > Gestures & Inputs. Mine is set to "screen lock" when I double tap. Good luck!

Salute... That worked.
Have searched, but don't see this exact solution:
I want to use Nova launcher, and be able to use the "knock off" to turn off the screen, but also use "always on display" -probably me that's confused -If I use Nova's own built in gesture to turn off the screen (double tap), AOD doesn't come on, as well as 3rd party "double tap to lock screen" apps -ultimately, would be able to use Nova as my launcher, double tap to lock screen, have always on display come on, wake with fingerprint scanner.
Thanks for any help
AOD has nothing to do with Nova Launcher. You can use double tap to sleep in Nova however if you're not rooted the screen will dim first before total screen off and if you touch you're screen it will turn on again. lol
Much better if you're rooted to be able to directly put the screen off when using double tap to sleep in Nova.

Thanks! I guess I wasn't giving it enough time/delay after double tapping the screen off with Nova for AOD to appear -didn't make sense that it would be incompatible, as it isn't
