Afternoon all,
After successfully loading the XDA rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2651053 onto one of my children's Nook ST, I gave my Nook ST a go too but after following the process step by step, like I did with the last Nook, I can't get it to boot up past CWM?
When I select reboot system now, it just goes straight back to CWM?
Unfortunately I didn't do a back-up (this is my first problem with custom rooms after playing around with a few Android devices) and am now lost so can anyone help here please?
If this is your initial attempt to root the device, you should do a factory reset and start over. Any B&N books will be re-downloaded. I hope you have copies of any non-B&N books so you can re-install them. The NookManager rooting method has an option to start a factor reset.

Let me preface my question with some info:
I have tried the limited viability market fix detailed in the ManualNooter 4.5.6 no less than 10 times.
I have gone back to stock, side loaded 1.2, and did a complete redo of manualnooter (I followed every single word in every single step to a "T", BOTH times.
I saved, then uninstalled, and reloaded the market from Titanium.
I am not a complete noob (and by that I mean, I am not a natural at adb commands).
I have rooted an Eris, I have used autonooter, I have rooted my Incredible.
I have been reading through posts on XDA and other sites for 3 days.
I absolutely positively cannot fix the limited visibility problem with the Market.
Can anyone give me any guidance?
Is anyone else having this problem but me?
Thanks for your time!

I did the same and had no problems. Try the new MN 4.5.18 and post your results. Did you add any apps, kernels? What was installed prior to going back to stock BN and which version of BN? Did you overclock or dual boot?

Before doing Manualnooter, I wiped the device as per the directions (8 failed reboots, and factory reset, in that order...again, as per directions)
I did not add any apps (aside what was loaded natively via the manualnooter process before trying the market either time.
I have never overclocked, or dual booted my Nook.
From stock 1.1, I used autonooter to root. I never installed any ROMs. From that state, I unrooted, and rerooted with Manualnooter following ALL of the directions (including making the bootable sd with CM), and again, never loaded any custom ROMs.
Before I rooted, I had a pretty good number of apps loaded both from the market, and side loading. I never messed with the Nook too much (no tasker, no tether, never tried to get bluetooth working, and nothing where I had to alter any lines of code.
I'm at work right now, so unable to try 4.5.18 at the moment. When I have a chunk of time, I will try the entire process over again with 4.5.18 from complete scratch (including redoing the bootable sd, wiping with 8 interrupted boots, and factory reset, etc)
I will report back.
Thanks!
Lynn
Did you remember to register the device following the wipe? Seems the device needs to be registered prior to rooting.
I started with a stock Nook and rooted it, then 1.2 came out.
My sequence was to flash with 1.2 with CWM peinstalled. Then I rebooted and registered the device on gmail and Youtube.
Next I downloaded manual nooter and put in root of sd.
Rebooted to recovery and flashed manual nooter. booted and tested, installed Nook apps, then rebooted into recovery.
From recovery I flashed the kernal fix to allow moving apps to SD. Tested Works!
The ONLY remaining issue I have is that some large apps are not found in market.
Market was fixed!, had to clear market cache, then kill it, then cleared data for the google frame work part and killed it. Rebooted and now see many more apps, especially the larger ones. This info is near end of first post; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027

framitz,
I don't think I did. I don't remember doing that step at that point. And, I looked back over the directions I followed, and I didn't see that as a step. And I followed those directions like I needed to diffuse a bomb.
I'll follow your instructions when I get home, and let you know!
Thanks!!

Instead of unrooting, etc.. just install BN1.2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050520. I suggest using update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip.
From there MN should work fine...
My first MN followed the same process as yours (restore to stock, side load BN1.2). Subsequently, I used the nemith method.

I used update-nc-stock-1.2-keepcwm-signed.zip, which has the advantage of not needing to set up a bootable SD because CWM is already available.
To flash a new rom I just boot into recover, locate and install the zip file.
Battling Market Downloads with MN 4.5.6

I did exactly this, then used MN 4.5.6 and had the same problem with "download unsuccessful" with the market. I was able to fix the limited market problem easily, but couldn't find a solution to the Market download problem.
Tired of beating my head against the wall at this point. Reverting back to my original ROM.
Hi, first post. I've searched for similar threads/questions but haven't found any.
I ran manual nooter 4.5.6 on my nook running 1.2.0 and was quite happy with it. But so last night I powered the Nook Color down and when I powered it up this morning it gets as far as the "nook color" colorized screen animation and then boot loops. I've seen other folks have this problem (posted in the dev forum in the manual nooter 1.2.0 thread) but no solution offered other than "restore to stock and re-root it".
While that's do-able, I was wondering what data gets wiped out in the 2nd part of the flashing to stock process. Is it possible to just do the first part (8 boots, restore to stock 1.2.0) and keep the data (books and music that I have on the onboard memory)? or is the data-wipe an integral part of restore to stock? does the userdata get wiped during the software update part anyway?
I don't care so much about having to reinstall apps and configuration etc etc (although if there's a way to get it booting without flashing to stock and I just haven't seen it, please let me know), but the data's a pain right now...
Help or pointers would be appreciated
You probably have the issue where Flash was auto upgraded, a know problem.
I had to start over, making sure Flash wasn't set to auto update, and proceed from there.
Not sure if this will help or not but when I plug my nook into my computer I actually get 2 icons come up in my file manager program, one for the sdcard and one for the emmc.
I would think that you could copy the files you need from the emmc to your computer, then after you reload and reroot you could copy them back to their respective folders on the emmc.
Not ideal, but better than nothing.

I have a NC 1.2 rooted with MN 4.5.25 and the nook shop does not work. I can get it to start but if I try to browse magazines, books, or something else I get no results and I get an error message telling me to contact the nook support forum. Anyone got an idea what might be wrong?
Thanks,
RF94
I just restored mine to stock 1.2, then applied MN 4.6.16 (most current version) and the shopping works fully for apps and books with BN. I know that after I add all things that I normally install, the market gives me the same error message.
I found that for me, installing the BN apps and stuff before rooting is vital. This is what I've done, may not be the best, but it works every time for me.
1. Revert to stock 1.2 with CWM preinstalled. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050520)
2. Register and configure the stock NOOK.
3. Download all books and apps.
4. let it settle down for an hour and check all the functions
5. Copy ManualNooter 4.6.16 to the root of the SD card (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027)
6. Reboot into recovery: Power down then, Hold the n button while pressing power, it should start booting, then reboot. Hold n while pressing power again, and it should boot into CWM recovery.
7. Use CWM to locate and flash the zip for ManualNooter 4.6.16
8. Read and follow fixes found in the original post for manual nooter
9. Once confident that everything is working you can install the overclock kernel if desired: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027)
Both the Android Market and the B&N Market are working fine, I have purchased and installed from both.
I have not tried in store, but am confident it will work fine if I have the opportunity to try it.
This may be oversimplified, but it's the basic steps I take if I need to start from scratch.
Hi, folks! I'll post this question here just in case I can get more help, as I've run out of ideas, and I've read all the threads on the specified subject, but none have helped. If it's against the rules, then Mods, please delete the thread. If not, Thank you.
The Problem:
I recently upgraded to CM7.2 Mirage-KANG- from Phiremod 6.2. The Nook was running great until I tried to upgrade to the ICS/CM9 nightly from here. The Nook would refuse to boot. The only way I could get it to boot was with an old CWM sd card I'd used to root it in the first place. I figured I could fix the boot by wiping the /data, /system, and /cache files from the Nook. Bad move. That just made things worse, as now, the Nook doesn't even load from the SD Card anymore unless I hold the "n" key and hold the power button.
I tried restoring it to to stock 1.01 to possibly start from scratch, and all was well, until it was time to register it. It wouldn't let me, even while on wi-fi. It would give me an "error has occurred, Nook will now Power Off" message without weven loading or anything. Upon further inspection, I checked the properties tab by accessing the wi-fi menu and saw that the model number and unit I.D.(I think) were "unknown" and in red letters.
Presently:
Since then, I tried everything from the Autonooter to the Monster Recovery Pack and nothing works. The Nook, without the Micro SD loaded, shows the Cyanogenmod7 logo loading, then goes black, though the backlight remains on. With the card, it goes straight into CWM. It sometimes doesn't boot into anything at all.
Extra Info:
I'm using a Sandisk (4) 8 GB card for the rooting and such. I normally use the 16 GB (4) model.
So my question is:
What can I do from here? Can/should I go back to the beginning as a Stock Nook 1.0, or is there a better, wiser alternative that I can use to get the Nook booting into CM7 or higher normally?
Any help'd be greatly appreciated.
Did you try following the directions on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720
Yeah, as a matter of fact, I tried the exact same directions on both those pages, and used that exact CWM 3.0.2 img file to install the Nook 1.01 file.
From there, my Nook boots up fine, gets past the "n" logo, but once in the setup, won't register because it's serial #, Model #, and Mac Address are "missing", and won't let me past the Setup Menu.
Update: I managed to flash Stock 1.0.2. to the Nook. Upon booting it up, it prevented me from registering the Nook, until I figured out the factory mode method to bypass it, and used Autonooter to root.
Now I have a dilemma: I want to ditch Stock and jump to some sort of CM7, but Stock won't allow me to reboot into CWM at all, even after having flashed it through Rom Manager or flashing it to EMMC.
I know there's a way out, I just don't see it.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would assume you already have CWM on a SD card. Drop your chosen CM 7 zip onto the card, boot into CWM recovery, choose the zip and install. Same should work with ICS zip but you shpuld prolly avoid it until its in more stable shape.
Hey guys,
I got a Nook Simple Touch Thursday evening. This morning, I powered it on and registered it on B&N. I imaged TouchNooter to a 2gb microSD via a microSD->SD adapter, inserted it into my Nook, and it brought the TouchNooter and the screen went dark successfully. However, since then, my device has been in a boot loop and all I can make it do is reboot. I ran the factory restore function built into it (Lower two buttons), but that did nothing.
I was planning to use the n2t recovery option in case this happened, but the links to it are dead. I tried CWM, but my Nook won't boot into it for some reason.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Did you make a backup image before you started?

You might want to try TouchFormatter. I used it successfully to recover from a failed rooting attempt.
When you have your nook restored, be sure to check what firmware version is on your nook before you try to root.
If you have US Nook with firmware 1.2 then you will need to use Tinynoot.
Be sure to make a back up of your nook before you try to root.

Thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately, I already returned my Nook, for a number of reasons, so I can't do anything now.
Again, thanks anyway though. Maybe this will prove useful for another noobie.
