Install CM12.1 for ZE550ML - ZenFone 2 General

OUR LOVELY MIDRANGE ZENFONE 2 ZE550ML GOT THEIR OWN CYANOGENMOD NIGHTLY BUILD.. YEEHHAAAA!!
as you can see until today, Zenfone 2 have 3 CM builds which is:
Unofficial CyanogenMod by crpalmer (they has released build for ZE550ML too!!): http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...-unofficial-cyanogenmod-12-1-nightly-t3164144
Paranoid Android by Niropa : http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/rom-t3169921
SlimLP by deadman96385 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/rom-slimlp-t3169982
but the sad thing is, those custom rom is for ZE551ML ONLY.
and now i want to teach you how to install those custom rom for our mid range Zenfone 2 ZE550ML
FIRSTLY, download any custom rom you like from the links above. (I prefer SlimLP) and download Gapps to from HERE
SECONDLY, follow this instruction for installing Custom Rom on your devices --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-to-flash-cm12-1-zf2-newbies-t3165515
THIRDLY, THIS IS THE MOST TRICKY PART!!! follow me by reading this slowly and gently before doing this part.
after you successfully install the Custom Rom let it boot first.. and after you see the BLACK SCREEN, DO NOT PANIC !!
you will get a fully black screen and you can see there are TIME, BATTERY AND NETWORK DATA at the top. (thats mean you install the rom correctly)
and now, you just connect your devices to computer using data cable.
download this folder from here (credit to uploader) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByTxb-IFfEL-REcweFFWdlE4Nnc/edit
then, EXTRACT THE ZIP INTO A FOLDER and PRESS SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK to the folder and choose OPEN COMMAND WINDOW HERE
NEXT, command window will open and type ADB DEVICES to check if your devices connect properly and detected by your computer. If there are no phone list in the command window, check your driver.
HERE IS THE MOST TRICK
Key in this code first "adb shell wm size 719x1279" and then poooffff!! no more black screen yeayyyy..
secondly, key in this code "adb shell wm density 320" to get normal DPI for our devices.
and then you can continue to finish up the setup wizards and enjoy CM12.1 on your lovely ZE550ML :victory:
(or maybe we can get CM build for ZE550ML next time? at this moment, just use this trick to feel the CM12.1)

Impressive how you guys found out how custom ROMs will work on the 550ML

i have a more simple solution ,can u try to add this line to system.prop before flashing :
ro.sf.lcd_density=267
or search for it maybe it's already exist and change it to 267
and see if it works

Added to index, thanks for your work!

@windylawyer.1712 yes that is the rom bug. led notification didnt work. and camera, you can download google camera at playstore.

Thanks for the post. Will surely try it today after downloading.
But I have got few queries, should I change the resolution through adb each and every time I restart the phone?
What If i change the resolution in the ramdisk and system prop?

just change the resolution once at the first boot. resolution and dpi.
about the ramdisk, i dont test it and i think it wont work or maybe someone can do something to make it work hehee.

If you haven't tested, I'll give it a try.. Though it wont be much optimized for our phone.

You guys can quit playing this hack game now, Z008 got its own CM build today

OK its released guys

Did this process, now TWRP won't let me install the ZE550ML version
I ran through this process a few days ago. Now that there is a SlimROM version for the ZE550ML, I downloaded and tried to install using TWRP.
I tried to flash the new Z008 version (the correct version for a ZE550ML) and TWRP v2.8.7.0 now says "This package is for device: Z008; this device is Z00A. E:Error executing updater binary in zip..."
Any ideas for getting TWRP to not do this check and just flash the device?

Try to modify your build.prop file in system folder, updater script check probably this file.
ro.product.device and ro.build.product to Z008
Modify all build.prop files.

I just took every place where I saw Z00A, went one by one and changed it to Z008, rebooted and tried to flash after each one.
I am still getting the same error.
What do you mean by "Modify all build.prop files"? I can only see the one under /system.

Edit:
This method work:
Open the zip and open and modify:
/meta-inf/com/google/android/updater-script
The first 2 lines for mod check Z008 to check Z00A.

i see you most likely have an outdated kernel try flashing this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816087
tell me what happens
can somebody give me another link for download, i am unable to download the rom, have tried multiple times... it just stops in the middle.
thankyou.
My efs folder became blank after installing this ROM. I do have a backup but when I copy it to the root of the phone and restart it my IMEI stays unknown, and cant get service? Am I supposed to set some permissions or something?
I came from 4.1.2 MIUI ROM, now I flashed back to that ROM and everything is fine. This is really weird.

yeah that happens..
whenever you flash 4.3 over 4.1.2 or 4.0.4 then the IMEI no becomes invalid..
In your case you need to flash the rom again after you restored the files in the efs folder..
that is why your IMEI no got restored when you flashed back to MIUI....
I wont be able to do it for a while, but is it possible anyone can upload their own screenshots? i will post it on the OP, and give credit to you. thanks in advanced

I'm not sure which bootloader I have right now and how do I check? I'm on CM 10.2 right now with TWRP 2.5.0.0
Edit: Went ahead and used this. Worked great.
I was curious about the kkrecovery.img: I had twrp 2.6.3.0 already installed on my tf300t, which did not work to install cm 11. I noticed after flashing kkrecovery.img that the twrp version is still 2.6.3.0. But it worked to do the install of cm11. What was changed?
Thanks.

An assert was added in the updater script, which allowed for the partition change in KitKat. You are right in saying that it is the same version of TWRP though.

Fantastic
This is really great for people not willing to put up with the whole ADB stuff, worked like a charm for me.
One thing: I found the whole thing is only working if you run the "Run Me To Start.bat" from a command prompt that already has administrator privileges. Just right clicking on the bat in an explorer and selecting "run as administrator" did not work for me, somehow it can't run adb, even though the files are present in the same folder.
Thanks again for your work!
Thanks, time to play with my tablet

Does any part of this require a touch input from the tablet??
i just recovered my tablet from a brick so im back to stock 4.2
im now trying to root and flash 4.4 rom but i have no touch as my screen is broken
i can only controll the tablet through the keyboard dock and hardare keys...
so if i try this method will i eventually get stuck somewhere in the flashing procedure where it requires a touch input on the tablet??
thanks!!

Unfortunately, yes, you need to be able to flash zips in recovery as that isn't automate-able. Unless twrp works with the keyboard dock,

You can use CWM instead of TWRP as the recovery. CWM uses the volume keys to install ROMs. Use the CWM from the first post in CM11.

Introduction: I have recently asked/requested @Gustavo RD78 to build the Z2 community a N kernel, after building a N kernel for the Z3c. He has helped the Z3c community to successfully install N preview on the Z3 Compact, and now he has built us, the Z2 community, the new Android N Kernel for the Z2. He has also asked me to tell everyone about this, and so here it is. Here is how to install Android Nougat DP3/DP4/7.0/7.1 ROM for the Z2!
UPDATE! Thanks to Android Doctor (@madscientistdam), for Beta testing the older Dev Preview builds on his YouTube channel. As well, thanks to @rcstar6696 for the updated ROM build. You can find his OG post thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/aosp-6-0-marshmallow-sony-xperia-z2-t3235951:)
Below are the steps on how to Install the Stable 7.0/7.1 Nougat ROM, and how to Install the (Unstable) Dev Preview 3/4 ROMS. (Don't flash the Dev Preview 3/4 ROM if you are planning on using you phone as a daily driver!)
Note. I'm NOT responsible if your device bricks, blows up, or pulls a finger to you.
Downloads...
ROM folder: https://mega.nz/#F!TRRjgICI!D4WON2JY7Lunrx7W-LSaww!vEQy1QBb

6: Flash the zips in Recovery
7: Reboot and enjoy Nougat! First boot may take 10-15 minutes.
How To Install 7.0/7.1 Using TWRP RECOVERY...

Then flash the optional Pixel Converstion Pack zip, then clear cache, then finally if you want to have/keep Root, flash the Supersu zip, and clear cache, then reboot, but If you have a D6502 Model than it needs the Universal Baseband patch, so flash it! (Skip this if you have a D6503 model!)

How to install the Developer Preview 3/4 Firmeware...
This is NOT recommended that you decide to flash this as the Dev Preview ROMS are extremely outdated, unstable, and next to unusable. For Developers only!
You'll need:
-Android N Z2 Kernel a, SuperSU.zip, and Recovery FOTA Partition (TWRP). (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...nel-android-n-preview-3-t3439811#post68284953)

-Any ftf designed for the Z2.
-Xperia Z2 device. (Recommended D6503, but you can also try D6502.)
-Flashtool PC Application.
How to flash:

Questions & Answers
Q: How do I Root my Z2 and Install TWRP on firmware .291 or below/above?
A: Simply follow this guide to Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/tool-rooting-23-5-1-291-supersu-t3437280
Q: How stable/usable is the AOSP Nougat ROM?
A: Extremly stable and recommended for daily use. There is a 'What works and don't' list below the Q&A!
Q: Will this delete all my data?
Yes and No. Unless your on a previous version of CM (Cyanogenmod), it will Factory Reset your phone in order to install the ROM, but none of your Google Account, Internal Storage, or SDCARD files will be affected/deleted.
Q: If the DP3/PD4 Concept ROMS are next to unusable, then why are there steps in order to install them?
A: Only developers will know! Just don't install them! XD
More Questions will be Answered once, well, someone asks me a question!

Heres a youtube video showing how to install it this rom looks promising https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brE7L59G6Rg
why install when wifi and cam not working ^^ please fix it first.
Notes and recommendations:
Always use Developer Preview 3 rom, users have reported various problems with Preview 4
Always use the kernel Constructed to Z2
Check which governor is being used after root it is modified Interactive to Performance, then change back to Interactive
I Can't live without WiFi :/ Please Fix it ) Tnx

So why is this still in General and not on the Original Android Development subforum?
And if Brandon isn't doing anything to port this except beg other people to do it, why not let other people make this thread?

Okay... I could use something like this but, just 2 questions.
1) Will the results from the Emulator also reflect those results from a TWRP Recovery?
2) For the CWM that this Emulator is based upon, are the results based upon for the last known release version or for all release versions?
Thanks!

The GUI is merely a theme, based on latest recoveries
So could this be used to flash ROMs onto an unrootable device? Not "unrootable", but USB debugging doesn't work on it so I can't root it but there are ROMs for it

Where was that Years ago? I'm alomst 24 and My whole Life was wasted on testing ZIPs... Could You please give Me back My Time? lol
Thanks a lot for that! You're a true Hero for Me dear OP. Keep it Up!
Great work as alawys.
I have idea on my mind several months ago!
Can you make twrp theme emulator so we can test themes on the run.
Or you can make this open source so I can make it my self.
Very nice. If the ability to emulate aroma installers could be added it would be really cool.
@Ricky Divjakovski , does this support the legacy environment? Like using update-binary? Shell?
BTW: works starts in Ubuntu 16.04 with mono.
But if these created subdirs with backslashes will really work? IDK
Hello there, just noob question, I used it with a stock ROM with supersu and dualrecovery ( I have stock z1 compact ) and this is what I get, why that errors ?
http://imgur.com/a/BmSNw
VERY GOOD , but it doesn't ''like'' magisk
could this be fixed or bypassed somehow, so be able to continue flashing and reach to the end ?

at the moment it only checks if the script exists via "run_program" and parsing the first arguement to the program that then checks if the file exists, if it doesnt it throws a possible error, shell support will eventually be added, but for now the basics

almost all the latest roms in Samsung galaxy Note 2 these days, include magisk as default root method.
This is a second zip inside the rom zip, which as I understood creates that error

Thank you very much OP.

I too had ERROR in TWRP (from TWRP site and treble TWRP), just removed from updater-script 1 line and it's working fine on treble TWRP.
Awesome work mate with this port. Do you tried to install alien dalvik? I found some instructions on maemo forum.
I set camera in 10MP mode and it's not working now, and I can't use app "touch" from jolla store.

Hi, I found some bugs, you mentioned GPS (network location working, I tested WhoGo maps and it's show close location), sensors and:
Low camera resolution, low maximum brightness (on sun I see nothing) and I can't do logcat with alien dalvik (I wrote to you in IRC channel). Torch is working fine, now I'm using system torch.
With latest update stock browser working fine.
I tested mobile data, sms, phone calls, wifi, camera (front, back), recording and playing it. All good
If you need any log or testing help just PM me or give instruction here.
I also wrote to MOD to move thread to development and it's happened.
Again thanks for work at this port.
what is pwd? I input unlock pass but not work.
