Hi Guys,
This is my first message in this forum even if I read so many useful stuff here in the last few years. So first of all thanks for the many useful tips
Now I am facing a problem that probably is prohibitive even for you gurus.
This morning I broke the screen of my nexus 4, I can still boot it and the os seems to work fine. Unfortunately the touch screen is totally gone and I am not able to unlock the security pattern and access the phone. The phone is stock and not rooted.
I would like to retrieve all the data stored in the phone and access some app, so I tought I could use [email protected] Unfortunately adb tool says: device unauthorized. Please check the confirmation dialog in your device.
Of course I can't access any confirmation dialog since the touch screen is not working. Then I tought I could go in recovery mode and do something but when I reboot in bootloader and then go into recovery mode I only see the green android and a message that sounds like "no command".
What can I do? The best option would be to unlock adb and take control of the device trough [email protected] Do you guys thinks it is possible?
Just a quick update: I was able to access the recovery mode but I can't find my device in adb devices list

Do you have USB debugging enabled? Is you bootloader locked or unlocked? If you boot into the bootloader, try using the command "fastboot devices" instead. You can only access adb from recovery with a custom recovery like TWRP.

USB debugging should be available but if I try to use adb while the phone is turned on I get the "unathorized" message.
What should I do after I used command "fastboot devices"? I only see: "deviceidnumber" fastboot
In the bootloader menu I see "LOCK STATE - unlocked, SECURE NOOT- enabled"
What should I do then?
Thanks for your help!

I was able to flash a custom recovery! It is the clockwork 6.0.4.7.
Now when I am inside the clockwork and I run "adb devices" I get "unauthorized". Is there a way to authorize adb through the recovery mode?

Try TWRP instead of CWM. I think that will work. If it doesn't I at least know that TWRP will give you access to your sdcard so you at least can copy what's on there.

Oh, heh, forgot about that. Lol. Umm, don't think so unfortunately. But I don't think you actually need to touch anything. Just boot into TWRP and plug it into the computer. I might be wrong about ADB working with it though. But I'm sure you will be able to access your sdcard. Or can you access your sdcard when booting normally without entering your pattern? If so then that part is useless [emoji14]

I'm not sure... Bit i think you should be able to get your data from the phone via adb without an app. I was originally going to suggest using the command "adb backup" but it seems like you have to allow that from your phone which you need your screen to do. You could try it when you are booted in TWRP maybe it won't need confirmation then? No idea. The command and it's various settings are detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/guide-phone-backup-unlock-root-t1420351. I honestly forgot about the app and just thought about how to get adb working... Sorry [emoji14]

unfortunately as soon as I was able to run [email protected] I realided that it does not allow to control the device but only mirror the screen. Do you guys know if there is an app that allows to control the screen of a device? Now my device is debug authorized, rooted and with custom recovery.

I am trying to retrieve data from one application. The application is financisto and there I saved all my expense information for years. Probably this does not make sense to you but I really want to recovere those data. I don't know if financisto save the db somewhere inside the phone so I thought that the easiest way would be to control remotely the phone access the app and do a db backup and export.

Ahh i see, unfortunately I am not aware of any way to do that, but I'm not that knowledgeable about that so it is very possible there exists a very easy and obvious way.
Guys I finally did it!
I pulled the db of the app with the following command: adb pull /data/data/ru.orangesoftware.financisto
Then I installed the same application in another phone and I pushed my old db with adb push. When I started the application everything was there again :victory:
Thank you very much for your help!

Hi all. I have a htc wildfire, rooted with a custom rom. On the bus today I turned my phone off and then back on but it is constantly reboots after the initial screen (telstra logo because I am from Australia).
I can get into HBOOT but not recovery anymore (I used to be able too), it just repeats the same loop process. I've tried with/without the SD card present, and clearing storage through HBOOT.
Is there another way to flash or fix this? I'm fairly new at posting so sorry if this is in the wrong section, it's a tad urgent.
Thanks
Try flashing clockworkmod recovery again using unrevoked
Woudn't I have to have the phone on to be able to flash with unrevoked again?
If not, how would I go about doing it?
Thanks.

Hi Maxcima,
Are you able to see anything via adb at all?
for example if you can connect to the device via adb, if you run:
adb logcat
can you see anything that could give us a clue to what's causing your issue?

Is there a way to flash clockwork mod recovery some other way? Or to flash the device in the HBOOT environment?
Hi,
I broke my Nexus 4 screen so I can't do anything, the touchscreen is completely down. But the display is working.
I have bought a new Nexus 4 and I want to get my photos from the broken device. The problem is that I can't unlock the phone (pattern), so I can't access to these. USB debugging is off and the device isn't rooted.
I hope someone have a solution for me. Does any virtual touchscreen exist ?

Not sure if adb works with usb debugging disabled though...
That has to be the Worst case scenario. Another reason I use Google drive and keep pics synced via cloud

It's really annoying, I just need to unlock my phone but I can't !
I'm not comfortable with the idea having my pics on Google's servers, but I will find something to backup data now..
Maybe the only way is to wait the nexus to be obsolete and find a screen for a low price

I'm assuming that because your phone isn't rooted you don't have a custom recovery or an unlocked bootloader. Is this correct?
i know with my HTC desire i run adb, when the device is turned off and connected to PC .
i think you can try it with your N4 , there are tools to do it google it .
good luck
You can try some combination of Airdroid (older version) and adb/shell command. So you'll need your device connected and older version of Airdroid - not two, because it asks for user action to accept the connection, and the older one just gives random generated password for the user to input in their browsers.
Now, you'll need to push the apk on your phone, and then just start it from your adb shell with the following command:
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.sand.airdroid/.Splash - this should work on the old version
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.sand.airdroid/.SplashActivity_ this works on last airdroid
At least you can try with other app that doesn't need user interaction on their display to get into the phone memory from their browsers. You can just install them from play store.
The first time that I'm writing here in Nexus forum though I am here with my 2 old DHD for about 2 years and I hope my answer could be helpful. And now I am here because of my soon to come Nexus 4
You could try to unlock, flash CWM then "adb pull" the files from there. No need for the digitizer to get it done. Fully charge the battery before starting.
You don't need root access, just adb debugging.
For everything off your phone: adb pull /sdcard/
Done.
EDIT: If you just want your pics from your camera the command would be adb pull /sdcard/DCIM/Camera/

You don't need root to use adb.
You only need to for adb to access anything beyond the sdcard.
When you first use adb there is a pop up on the device that asks if you want to allow the pc access.
He can't use the touchscreen to confirm its ok. This is the reason after I flash a Rom hook up to my pc ASAP and have it remember my computer to allow me access if this were to happen to me.

HUGE reason why this won't work:
unlocking the bootloader wipes the entire device.
Which... is pointless if you're trying to recover data.

If you flash the custom recovery immediately after unlocking (without rebooting into android in between) your data should not get wiped.
Well then... I sit here humbly corrected.

Dont worry, its not really an officially documented thing...more of just a bug with the bootloader.
Also if flashing your phone makes you nervous you could try to pull from in stock recovery but I don't know if it will work. Never played with stock recovery, it dose not last on my phone for very long.

Hi folks,
yesterday my Nexus 4 hit the ground and the front glass just bursted. Touch is not working anymore and the screen is locked (only slide to unlock, no pin or gesture). I can connect it to my PC and can access the internal storage, so backing up images, music, etc. is not a problem.
I have some apps installed of which I want to transfer the app data to my new phone. Debugging is enabled so I thought, well that'll be easy just run adb backup. Thought so... As adb backup requires a user action when it comes to entering the password I'm doomed
Does anybody has an idea or experienced the same problem on how I can get adb backup to work without being able to use the touch screen?
I'm not limited to adb backup but as my phone is not rooted I assume there are not a lot possibilities besides.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Your outta luck it seems then... If its that important to you you could buy a replacement screen for the n4... Get your data and sell it and get the money you spent in the screen back.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
If the apps that u need data are on sdcard(their datas)then u just do adb pull /sdcard c:\sdbackup with phone on.
if not then:
@calex3141 :
1ST: IM NOT RESPONSABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE / FAIL WHILE DOING THIS METHOD, I TESTED ON MY FRIEND´S N4 BUT I CANT GUARANTEE THAT WILL WORK ON EVERY NEXUS (INCLUDING YOURS), USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
2ND: DO NOT CRY IF U CANT GET BACK THE FILES IF SOMETHING FAIL. YOU COULD JUST BUY SCREEN REPLACEMENT OR GET A JTAG DUMP
3RD: do carefuly. if you are nervous calm down b4 doing this. one single command and u can format the nand so be careful.
4TH: I hope it Works for u .
5TH: u need to have adb seted up and also drivers. if you dont know how, search google(for drivers).
for adb just install minimal adb and fastboot
6TH: its recomended to test to see if cygwin(u will know what it is in a moment) is working (do some commands on it, like cd .. (to go back)or ls (list files) )
7TH: if u have any errors contact me asap and i will try to help you
LETS GO:
unlock the bootloader: (type in cmd prompt, fastboot oem unlock, and follow instructions on phone)(DO THE MANUAL WAY, DO NOT USE TOOLKITS, KEEP READING TO KNOW WHY)(it will say that u will loose files, but it actualy dosent format, it just change the 1st´s block of userdata partition to make it unmountable normally, thats why toolkits do fastboot format userdata after unlock.and tutorials say to format data in STOCk recovery, since custom ones dosent format, just delete everything except sdcard)
(do not format anything, even on stock recovery)
flash multirom recovery:http://d-h.st/pzv (Thanks@tassadar for his great work)(the only that i use, so i cant tell others)
then do this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705
(instead of doing it with phone on, just do on recovery, adb is enabled on it)
Everything I found on this says volume + and power, which kicks me into download mode, not fastboot.
I've gone into adb and typed adb reboot bootloader, but that just restarts the phone and turns in on like normal.
I google the how to enter fastboot mode on LG G2 and can find plenty of post about being stuck in fastboot, but nothing on how to get into fastboot in the first place.
Found a tutorial here about setting up and using fastboot and thought I was set until I got to the part about "and using fastback", where it just says:
Make sure you have android debugging turned on in your phone (not really needed for fastboot but you do need for ADB), plug it into your computer and boot into fastboot mode...
I felt like watching "Much ado about nothing" when Denzel says; "The learned constable is too cunning to be understood"
Any direction is appreciated.
Hmm, I may have written that guide... Just checked and yeah should have been more clear I'll change that up. It should have read the USB debugging was needed for adb (not for fastboot) so when you can issue
adb reboot bootloader
But after that I did mention to check device specific forum for answers on how to get into fastboot/bootloader and being I've never held an lg g2 I took a quick look around.
Unfortunately the only way that I found that people said works every time is to wipe recovery to get into bootloader mode as the recovery you guys currently have disables something due to a patch getting custom recoveries to work
So yeah, I would advice to speak with someone knowledgeable about your specific device before you just wipe recovery
Out of curiosity, is there something specific you need to do with fastboot or are you just curious about your phone?

the current thing I've been trying to straighten out is that despite being rooted and installing TWRP, I can't install ROMS. I tried CM 11 and Hellfire so that I could put kitkat on, but gave the following:
Error executing updater binary zip.
One of the answers I found said that I had to go back to TWRP 2.3 (I'm using 2.6) and I believe that's where the whole bootloader thing came into play, because it was the way to 'downgrade' -
So then I found Philz touch 6 (as I understand it a mode of CM 11), but here he talked about fastboot and lokifying items. Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554053
In the end it still comes back to the "can't load ROMs" issue. Just want a completely stripped down Kitkat that I can add the stuff I want without the bloatware.
Thanks in advance.(and the thanks button was hit on your reply)
For KitKat you should need a newer recovery with SELinux support which I believe is 2.6.x and newer for twrp, 2.3 I doubt would work if there even is one for your phone
But yes fastboot is often the best way to change recoveries but not the only way.
If there is a flashable.zip you could install new recovery from old
If your current ROM supports the flash image binary you can use a terminal emulator
You can use adb to install
Or even apps from the market
I would look for the latest recovery for your device, twrp, cwm, shouldn't matter so long as its new and then find what way works best changing for your phone.
The update-binary issue is often a sign that you need to change recoveries
Unfortunately without having your device I don't know if I can give you the best answers but feel free to ask
Best of luck!

Thanks again. I have adb and the script for loading TWRP 2.6.xx. I unrooted and rerooted the phone, because I wasn't sure how to replace the recovery... Now I think I realize that I could just find another recovery image and place it in the same file as the loki flash and that will flash it (At least that's what I understand at present).
If that's the case, then downloading the Philz touch 6 would work... but not wanting to brick it, I'm still asking and reading.
Hello Guys.
I am having a similar issue. I have a new ROM that will not run because of a faulty lg set up wizard that always force closes and I can not get passed it and a nandroid that for some reason is corrupted. So. This fastboot seems to be a dead end it looks like a quick learning curve of ADB is the only viable answer. I have installed all SDK Manager with ADB Tools and also the required Jarva JDK and LG drivers. The phone is turned on (at the beginning of the faulty setup wizard) In CMD my device is found when typing in 'adb devices' So. I am already to push a new ROM over to the phone.
Do either of you guys know the adb command?
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks
You can't actually flash a new ROM with adb, but you can either push it phone with adb and then flash in recovery. Or if your recovery has an option for adb sideload then use this.
Also setup wizard crashing is usually the fault of wrong gapps or not wiping before flashing a rom
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I found that the best way was to load flashify, that did the trick so I could start trying out ROMs... so no on to the next step - finding a 4.4.2 stripped down stock and the LG stuff I actually like.... thanks again.

I know it's not possible to flash a ROM via ADB. I have everything set up, ADB etc, etc. My phone is turned on and adb is seeing it but I can not work out the command to push. Every time I try to push I just get a long list of ADB instructions (I think they are) but nothing gets pushed. I have read lots of instructions on how to make the command but I still must be doing something wrong.
Here are my parameters;-
adb push/C:\Users\dene\Desktop/cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d802.zip/sdcard
Am I missing some spaces I am not aware of? Are all my slashes the right way round and in the right places? Is my 'sdcard' destination designation correct seeing as there is only internal storage on the G2?
Another problem I am having is that ADB has no problem seeing my sevice EXCEPT when I boot in to recovery (TWRP). When in recovery I lose coms between my device and pc. Hence I can no do TWRP ADB side load (I have tried). I have all the correct LG drivers loaded. Except MTP keeps failing to install? Any ideas?
Not to be mardy about it or hassle you but I am fairly house bound and live out in the country and really require my mobile phone. I have spent many hours trying to figure this out. Any help with the above would be much appreciated?
PS. I did a very thorough wipe, I always do. The gapps are built in to this ROM!
Thanks

But it usually easier not to enter the location of a file while pushing so cd to the directory first like
cd C:\Users.....
Then once there adb push /nameoffile /locationonphone
But if you don't want to cd, I see you have widows, depending on version you can just right click in the folder your file is located and choose open cmd here

Need Help
As I thought I bought LG G2 D-802, but it was D-800 and I accidentally install the lollipop of D802 and now it's in bootlap.... I can only get into fastboot and whenever I try to flash .img of D-800 or D-802 it just stuck at "writing .img"
What to do to unbrick the phone and bring it back to live. I tired the adb and fastboot cmd method on windows 10 and windows 7 but no success. It's just stuck at writing .img file.
Hi All,
In the best interest to provide clarity I'm creating this quick and easy tutorial on how to root your Razer Phone 2 after the Pie Upgrade. Please send me any feedback to improve this post, we need to build up a strong community.
*As usual, I'm not responsible of any damage or brick to your phone, do it at your own risk.
Pre-Requirements:
-Be sure to have at least 70% of charges... or plug your phone to power
-Backup anything you consider important
-Already installed Pie Upgrade via OTA or Side Loaded
-Enable Developer Options
• Open Phone "Settings" and scroll down.
• You will see an option "Build Number".
• Simply tap on it 7 times to enable it on your Android Oreo based device.
• Your device immediately display a message on screen that will say "You are now a developer".
• The Developer Option is now available in the Settings>System>Developer Options. Enjoy!
- Install Android Drivers (https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb) and ADB, I personally recommend -[TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot [2-9-18] - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
-Unlock Bootloader
• To enable OEM unlock, go to Settings > Developer options and check Enable OEM unlock
• Using ADB commands reboot on bootloader
adb reboot bootloader
• After reboot completes follow phone menus and select "UNLOCK BOOTLOADER"; accept all warnings, after restart you have completed the unlock.
Root and Installing Magisk
Since our phone doesn't have a proven customer recovery fully working (Ex TWRP) Magisk needs to be installed by manually patching the device boot image.
Making leverage of Warrior1988 post [Root Magisk Pie Update For Unlocked Devices] all credits to him. Download the image from his post
• Boot in fastboot mode To boot into fastboot, press and hold the Power button + Volume Down Keys for few seconds; Copy the image on the same folder as your ADB and Run the following commands:
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
fastboot reboot
Install Magisk Download the apk and install it as usual on your RP2, that should be all.
DONE!!!! You now have a unleashed the beast! Please send me any recommendations to improved this guide.

Install Android Drivers and ADB

Your link has everything necessary for this step, right? Direct link to version 1.4.3 is here: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=746010030569952951
Or are drivers and ADB two separate downloads?

I assume this is where we plug our phone into our computer?

For anyone dumb and new like me, I think this is with cmd.exe in Windows. Win+S -> type "cmd" (without quotation marks) and hit enter. Once open, you want to navigate to ADB, which you've already installed via the above instructions.
So your cmd will say:
C:\Users\YourName>
And you want to get to ADB, so you'll type "cd" (without quotation marks) which means you want to change directories, and then "cd adb" (if its in C:\ directory) or "cd [whatever the path is to the ADB folder]\adb"
Assuming it was directly in C:, you should see something like:
C:\adb>
Now you want to type "adb devices" to make sure it sees your phone is plugged in. You should see: "list of devices attached - [model] device" or something.
Now you're ready to go with the instructions starting at "adb reboot bootloader." If I'm wrong about this, someone less new and dumb than I am please correct me.

I'm confused on this one. The first one has "flash*boot_a," but the second one has "flash boot_b" without the * symbol. What does the * do, and what happens if we mess it up? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

No asterisk. Cool. Got it. Thank you, dude.
The drivers are the regular ones for android nothing specific, they can be downloaded from their SDK https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb
App root detection?
If I root my Razer phone 2 using this guide, will certain apps like banking apps, and rideshare apps be able to detect root?

You can use magisk to hide the root from those apps. In general banking app are not affected by root. Google pay could be affected, but I don't use it so can't be sure. And you can always unroot.

I have not, but I've been really sick and useless. I think I'll try tonight and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the guide, dude.

Wait, yes, I do have a question. I download the drivers, and I download the Fastboot ADB thing. What do I do with the drivers? Do they just install in Windows like anything else, and that allows me to connect to the phone?

Yes, install them as any other driver.
After rooting can you relock the boot loader or will that brick the phone?

Not sure, but why you want to relock the boot.

Mostly to get rid of the startup message
Very nice. I've rooted a ton of phones over the years, but they had more established communities and had well-explained (and tested) methods of rooting. The previous guide posted (that you referenced) was fine enough, but it was very much lacking a couple prerequisites that I was wondering/concerned about. This guide has cleared all of that up for me, and I now feel confident about rooting this phone.
Just as soon as I charge up the phone and install the OTA I've been avoiding until now... lol. Hoping somebody will make a Magisk module to move the clock back to where it belongs (if they haven't already).
EDIT: Just wanted to add my success story to this. Only thing I had to do that wasn't listed in the instructions (but makes sense) is that fastboot didn't work until I enabled USB Debugging (again, after the wipe and reboot), and I had to very manually tell the computer which driver to use (ADB) after that. Didn't have that issue for the bootloader instructions beforehand (that time, the driver worked automatically), so I figured I'd mention it.

Also is there a way to turn back on the preboot authentication. Pretty much I just want to maintain full encryption and the built in security while having root.

I don't believe encryption is supported at the moment, and I don't encourage you to try it until TWRP is fully supported since you may end up in a boot loop. I'm eagerly waiting for the full encryption capability, so I will let you know as soon as something come up.

Alright so after fighting with windows for a few hours, I discovered that my ADB was severely outdated.... Lesson learned there.
After getting the new boot image installed, though, I hit another problem... WiFi refuses to work. The toggle switch in the statusbar, nor the toggle in the system settings, will bring my wifi to life. Which is weird! Because I got through setup just fine, connected to wifi and signed into google... Yet now all wifi functionality has vanished. I tried a factory reset, to no avail. I'm gonna have to restore the factory boot image and start all over... But for now, figured I'd ask if anyone else has run into this weird bug?
***update***
I've now gone and flashed the global image for 8.1.0 to the phone... and it's telling me the OS is up to date???? How do I get back to pie?? It's late here and I've got wifi back now... but I'm stumped. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!

I doubt the issue with the wifi is related with the image, since it doesn't have anything to do with it. If your phone doesn't detect the update you will need to sideload it. Then try the root guide again. Let us know how it goes, it the first time I hear something wrong with WIFI after rooting.
