Is there finally at least one normal solution to get surround shot mode (aka photo sphere, 360 photo, vr panorama, orb) at samsung galaxy S4 GT-I9505? I want it to work fast, save images to SD card, use samsung camera's drivers.
Stock camera is well, but there is not such mode there. There is easy way to make surround panoramas, but it has some incomfortabilities:
There is Google camera, which has photo sphere mode, but it has poor settings and can only save pictures in internal storage, not on the SD card. Is it possible to make Google's camera to be a "system application" to be possible to write to sd?
Also I have found an easy solution to install apk from here. It is stock camera from google play edition smartphone. It do not requires root. It was for Android 4.2, but apk works normally on Lollipop. It also has poor settings and saves only on intermal storage.
It seems, that for making good pictures the solution (for me for now) is keeping stock camera with its cool features (autofocusing, animated picture, etc) and one of above cameras for spherical shots.
But also I wanted to ask, maybe there is a solution to port one of samsung's devices camera, which has surround mode to galaxy s4? I think that should be good, due to samsung are using specific hardware drivers for their camera and shots should be bettes quality.
I did a discovery about what cameras has such mode.
As I understand, Note 4 camera has no such mode. But Note 3 camera has.
In this thread they say that they ported Note 3 camera to sgs4. But it is for Android 4.4.2. Is it possible to install it on Lollypop? Because in that case I could keep only single camera application on smart phone.
I also tried that s5 camera port on stock lollypop 5.0.1, but it did not worked for me.
As I understand, in s5 and s6 cameras there is surround mode, but you need to separately download it from galaxy apps.
I tryed to install that ROM which include S6 camera, but in Galaxy apps there is no even one application. So is there a way for somebody extract needed apk from Galaxy apps store (by installing on their S6 for example and extract from file system) and publish it for s4 users?
So, exprienced developers, please help.

I would like to know if the camera from the S4 would work on the Mega. All of these camera apps have features that the Mega camera does not have. The feature I would like particularly is the slow-mo and fast-mo video. It would have to be the 4.2 version of the S4. Can someone possibly yank the camera apk off a rooted device for me?
I have seen quite a few people managed to port the Galaxy Note 3 camera onto the Galaxy S3. I want to do the reverse.
I have been trying to get the galaxy S3 camera to work on the Note 3. This is because the Note 3 camera app does not make proper use of the excellent camera on the note 3. quite a few of the manual modes are missing especially the "low light" mode.
So far I have been able to extract the apk from the S3 and installed it in on my note 3. however I can only do it by removing the stock Note 3 camera apk. It works well and I can take photos and use the low light mode. however the ui is all over the place due to different screen resolutions(eg, the camera button is in the middle of the screen.)
Does anyone know how to port the S3 camera onto the note 3 so that 1) it registers as a separate program and 2) resize icons and 3 fix layout issues.

Try changing the DPI of that app using App Settings in Xposed Framework. If you fix it so that the DPI matches the DPI on the S3, it may display better.
Give it a shot

Thanks. I found this http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...app-layout-and-dpi-settings-xda-developer-tv/
This may work. but I was thinking of making the apk work rather than changing my phone to suit the camera app. Also, this does not address the problem where I cannot have the original Note 3 camera and the galaxy s3 camera apps installed together.

You don't essentially change your phone, App Settings is a system module that changes individual apk's DPI and not the whole phone's if you don't want it to.
Also you can't have the same app because the signature is the same. "com.sec.camera" in /system/app, if you change this you may be able to run both at the same time without uninstalling one.
Thanks, I managed to change the name of the app. it now can be installed along the stock camera app. however, something went wrong in the unpack/repack process. it seems to FC everytime when I open it.
any tips?
Hi guys,
I'm considering moving from danvdh's ROM back to the latest CM, due to some limitations (not being able to use the SD card to move apps, unable to use xposed at the moment), but wanted to know what's the status of CM's camera, as this is something that works rather well on Danvdh's ROM. Does it take pictures on HDR mode? Able to use SDcard to store the pics?
Thanks!
I've seen storage location options in the camera app. As for the HDR, I don't know.
Xposed is working on the GPE ROM. HDR does not and probably never will function on Cyanogenmod. Your best bet is a third-party camera app that uses its own libraries for HDR and other effects instead of relying on the ones in the ROM.
If done some testing (with my i9505 with optimized CM 12.1). This seems to work and offers additional features to defauklt cam:

Which camera apps are people using? Curious to also know what the latest version of Google Camera is that you found can work (fully) with our phone?
I managed to get 3.2 working (only 720p recording though).
Any recommendations are highly appreciated.

I have been testing out Camera zoom FX, it seems to have all the features that the N4 can use, but i don't like the way it handles HDR.
The thing is that Google Camera (at least the 3.2 version i have) is the quickest to open (<3 sec), which is something I care about.
Open Camera is also ok, while "perfectly clear" is complete **** (which i was very surprised about).
camera mx
sorry, maybe you try camera mx, I think is so good.

Does Nexus 4 support Camera 2 API to use HDR+? I doubt it but I ask just to be sure.

I never found a complete answer for this, but what i understood is that N4 does not go beyond LEGACY level for Camera 2 API. (other options being LIMITED and FULL).
This may be due to firmware issues, sensor limitation, or DSP/ISP.
So, max I think devs can do is make an app install on the N4 but none of the "extra" features will work (like manual controls, RAW images).
I did want to mention that there are apps out there that seem to "reproduce" some of the features of more modern cameras.
For example burst mode, or some exposure settings, even ISO. (e.g., Camera FV-5).
This is mainly why I asked this question here, to find out if there is a full feature packed app out there that N4 users prefer. Since most of these camera apps might have more features than the stock google cam one but the end results are crap...
Google Camera 4.1.006 seems to work fine if you have a ROM running 6.0+ (I think). I have encountered a few bugs though.

Stock camera app from LineageOS 15.1, works for me.
Latest Google Camera working on LineageOS 15.1 Android Pie
The Nexus 4 is a ARM device (arm-v7a). I tested Google Camera APKs from APKMirror on Nexus 4 running LineageOS 15.1 Android Pie. I had to manually uninstall the app between versions, otherwise the other versions refused to install.
Google Camera 4.2.035 doesn't work. Force closes on start up.
Google Camera 4.2.022 doesn't work. Force closes on start up.
Google Camera 4.1.006 works. Video @ 1080 causes app to crash. To work around this, go to settings and change video resolution to 720p.
Google Camera 3.2.045 works. To get past the tutorial, change to selfie camera. Video @ 1080 causes app to crash. To work around this, go to settings and change video resolution to 720p.
Overall v4.1.006 is the latest version that works on the Nexus 4.
Yesterday I finally tried LineageOS 18.1, within 20 minutes I had it running on my Samsung Galaxy S8 ! It was the easiest, the fastest, and I can't stress how much I love it being so lightweight compared to my S8 pre-LineageOS. I can also see within a day, my battery is not dropping as much.
After playing it for a while, I realize the included camera app is not as great as the one from Samsung. Even my middle-range Samsung A50s phone's camera looks better than my S8 now. I tried to install several Google Camera Ports from this website for Samsung Galaxy S8 Exynos (SM-G950FD). List of GCamera Ports that I tried :
From Arnova8G2 (the most updated mod, tried both Version 7 and Version 6).
Original version 7 would work, but opening the camera took me 3-4 seconds. Changing between mode also took 3-4 seconds and both Portrait and NightVision Mode didn't work, there's no HDR options, and picture couldn't be stored as well.
Using .xml file provided, both Portrait & Nightvision mode still didn't work, I couldn't get 16:9 resolution as well, but I could at least store a picture and there's HDR options.
From burial (last update was from 2020), even with .xml settings provided, app keeps crashing.
From IDan (last update was from 2019), GCamera wouldn't even open.
I also tried to use Open Camera, however the quality was just as bad. And for some reasons, HDR wouldn't work. Instead of storing a single HDR image, it would store 3 different images with different exposures, but not combined into one HDR image.
If anything, the reason I bought my S8 primarily was because its camera quality. I feel like the OS is now perfect for my phone, I just need to find a nice, working camera app. Any camera app suggestions ?
