I just got an 8GB/1GB model Moto G XT-1540from BestBuy, it looks like the ones from Motorola directly take time to come in, and this was an instant way to test and compare the Moto G. So far these are things I noticed.
1) The haptic feedback makes the phone sound like something is shaking inside, which feels a bit cheap. This may be a bad early production model.
2) There is no notification light though androidpit did show a picture of one. Not sure where they got their pic since it does seem to be a moto g 3rd gen in their pics.
3) There is no gryoscope, pressure sensor, or temperature sensor in the phone. It does have a magnetic sensor.
4) The back plate around the camera accent seems to have a small gap on one side even thought everything is clicked in, it may not be waterproof due to this, or maybe it's just variation in manufacturing, but it does worry me a bit.
5) The camera does have a 720p slo-mo option
6) It seems to open things faster than my Galaxy s4, which really surprised me, but is definitely nice to see.
7) There's no really good way to display battery percentage. Moto didn't build an option in, and the lollipop built in option needs to be enabled by an app and results in a very small percentage in the battery icon itself which is hardly legible. As roms and root and custom options come out, I suspect there will be ways to fix this, but in the meantime it's kind of stinky.
8) It has an FM radio. The app requires headphones to be plugged in as it uses them as the antenna, but it seems to work pretty well. I don't really care about this feature too much, but I know some people do.
I still haven't put it through anything too taxing, but if anyone wants to know if it can run any particular games ok or anything feel free to ask, or if there's any features you're curious about.
EDIT: Also I wanted to note one more thing that really blew me away. This phone has the same storage, ram, and a higher resolution screen compared to the LG Leon, which is a cheap T-mobile branded phone. I bought one of them about a month ago to test, and despite a lower res screen and the same general specs, it was laggy, annoying, and the low res screen was a huge nuisance as so little could fit on it. Compared to that phone the Moto G runs buttery smooth and goes a great job, it really is fairly comparable to my Galaxy S4 and seems to load things quicker, though it does also seem to have priority on wifi which means it gets all the bandwidth while the S4 is struggling to get its share, which may partly account for that.
Could you conffirm usb otg support ?
Thanks in advance man, i'm looking forward to get the 2gb version myself. Some people over the internet say there is no usb otg support, i think it's kind of an unlikely scenario, but it would be nice if an actual user confirms it.

The USB OTG Checker app says the phone has the API. I don't have anything I can plug into the phone to test that for signal though. Hope this helps even if just a bit. If there's a way to test actual functionality without a female usb a to male micro usb b, let me know. I do have a wireless keyboard but without a cable like that, I don't think there's a way for me to test the functionality.
There is USB-OTG support.

There is USB-OTG support. The phone is pretty much good. Does the work, but, I would have preferred a gyroscope sensor instead of FM Radio.

Me too, gyroscope is way more useful than Radio, I'd rather have a notification light too though, it costs next to nothing and is so useful. Moto display isn't nearly as functional.
It's pretty sad that it doesn't have a gyroscope, last years model did have one.
Gotta disagree, I love the FM radio and am glad Motorola still includes it. It's a bummer about the gyroscope, but I never used it. I'm much more disappointed by the lack of a notification LED and being forced to use Moto Display.
Speaking of which, does the Moto Display show music player controls on the lockscreen? I use Poweramp and I'm wondering if I would be able to pause/play/rewind/skip on the lockscreen without having to input a PIN or do extra actions just to get to the music controls.

No it does not. I just put poweramp on my phone and when I flip the phone up to turn on moto display it only shows the time and the unlock option because I have no notifications at the moment. If I use the power button to turn on the screen I can see the skip and play/pause options for poweramp though, so there is that. Hope that helps.

Thanks for answering. So Moto Display doesn't show the Poweramp controls even though it has a persistent notification? That's a real bummer since Google Play Music apparently has Moto Display controls. I guess it's not a huge loss since you'd have to press the power button on every other phone to get to the lockscreen controls anyway.

Could you test Google Photospheres? And confirm the lack of gyroscope? Use an app like Z device test to display all sensors... because CPUZ shows some 'orientation sensor' .. isn't that a gyroscope?

It has multiple accelerometers for orientation, but no gyroscope. I tested with a sensor tester yesterday and noted it in my main post. Just installed z device test and found the same, there is no gyroscope.

No it doesn't have panorama function, and by multiple accelerometers I mean I think it has the standard number of axes other phones do for accelerometers, but it works on more than just x and y, though maybe I'm wrong there.

No, the phone does have panorama support with the Motorola camera app. Even the 2015 Moto E has panorama support. The purpose of the dual accelerometers is for the gestures and panorama functionality. They emulate some of a gyroscope's functionality using two accelerometers.
Sorry, it supports panorama, what it doesn't support is photosphere.
Does the Moto G have the active display like the moto x? I mean can I just wave my hand over the phone and it will light up with notifications and such without touching the phone...

The accelerometer should be adequate for a tilt control racing game.
Emulating a gyroscope with the dual accelerometers and magnetometer would be an interesting but challenging task. I'll be busy for the next couple weeks, but I could look into creating a kernel module that does this when I get time. Obviously, it wouldn't be perfect, since we'd be fudging the data of a sensor that isn't actually there, but it should be possible to create a good enough imitation for photo sphere to work.

Ive used gsmarena for years. They are always correct. Also backed by Sotovik, a analytics company in Russia that belongs to a electronics retail group. They are trusted resources.
Also, online flash games at m.kongregate.com require a hardware sensor to function, you can test it yourself if already own the tab!

To tell u what a gyro does: it recognises the turning of the phone like when u look around in a n egoshooter with your mouse. The accelerometer can only recognise the g-force of the earth so as you know you have to turn your tab in so position that apps reg. the movement at all. So the compass is what you think of it. You can imagine that the gyro is a kombined compass and a accelerometer, buts its another thing, with all the things compass acc and gyro kombinated you cann do everything like in a pc ego
best to see this iphone video:

According to http://www.isuppli.com the galaxy tab uses the STMicroelectronics L3G4200D, essentially the same chip as in the iphone 4.
The difference between accelerometer and gyroscope is that the former detects translation and the latter rotations. Both are implemented by MEMS integrated circuits.
You can also get information about rotations from the digital compass...

I am the developer of "phone tester". This app allows you to test sensors, wifi, gps, battery, the multitouch screen and gives you information about the system. Currently doesn't support giroscope sensor, but yes in next update, probably in this weekend.
it has a gyro. I installed NOVA today, which recognized this ability and asked if I want to use it. I can confirm that I was able to operate the game on the horizontal axis.

Don't get me wrong, I love this phone and think it'd be PERFECT, but nothing ever really does come perfect and for those who are really keen on buying this, I think you should take a look at some of the things I certainly wish they'd done better.
1) No notification LED - Maybe this is a Samsung thing but for a device catered for business, I really wish they've added this small detail that can do so much good! And don't tell me to get NoLED from market either, the point of the LED is that I can see notifications without having to press any buttons.
2) Poor sound and call quality - It might have to do with the Yamaha codec that others on the forum have been complaining about. My phone before the Note was a Motorola Milestone 2/Droid 2, and Motorola beats Samsung's call quality big time. Motorola has CrystalTalk which would spoil anyone who needs to make calls all the time, whether I'm in HK's busy subway or its most crowded districts, I'm able to hear and the other party can hear me just fine. With Samsung Galaxy Note, I push my incoming call volume to the highest and can hardly make out what the other party is saying unless they voice up. The other party can hardly hear me as well. There's no noise-cancellation whatsoever. It's a tad better if you make calls without a headset, but as a girl, it looks super silly holding up the Note to my face. I use Marshall Minor earphones for conversations and they worked wonderfully well with Motorola, not that great with Samsung. I am not sure if high-end noise-cancellation earphones the likes of Sennheiser or Shure would work better but I'm no audiophile and I really don't want to have to pay half the price of the phone for some quality conversations. Music is passable, both on the speaker and on the earphones, but don't expect it to do a good job with low-bass. If you're an audiophile, you'd need a dedicated MP3 player or HTC's Sensation XE might be a better phone for you.
3) Not-so-great power button placement - The Power/Screen Off button is right where the volume rocker buttons are placed on the other side of the phone. I find myself accidentally pushing the screen off button when I really just want to adjust the volume. There's so much space on the top of the phone for this button.
4) No dedicated camera shutter button - Not really a HUGE deal here but a device this big can come with one. I recently notice that the new phones coming out are dropping this
5) Pre-installed keyboard not good enough - Coming from a Milestone which has a dedicated QWERTY slider keyboard, some might think I'm biased about this, but no, I've played with HTC's Sensation keyboards and hardly make a typing error, and it definitely made me switch to an all touch-screen device. For this one, if you don't get the Thumb Keyboard or some other keyboard you're used to, then you might find it quite frustrating to message or type up e-mails. Of course, you can use the S-pen and handwriting recognition, which I find quite pleasantly smart.
6) Poor customizability - Please note that this is not a Note-exclusive problem but with Touch-Wiz. I am not keen of the Touch-Wiz interface and immediately changed the interface to Launcher Pro, unfortunately, many of the widgets that are part of the Touch-Wiz UI can no longer be added. I wish Samsung would change that.
7) Phone does not include S-Pen tutorials as well as other Note-exclusive features - Unless you download the full 190-page manual (English version), there's not much help in getting to know the features of the phone. There are pop-ups now and then telling you certain features, but if I didn't watch a ton of Youtube 'first impression' videos, I wouldn't know of the gestures functionality and other cool features I can do with the S-Pen. However, this is not a reason for NOT buying the phone.
8) Poor Touch-Wiz Low Customizability- If you don't love Touch-Wiz, you won't like the pre-installed interface. You can always change it to Launcher Pro but that means there'd be widgets you cannot use if you don't use Touch-Wiz. I like the Calendar widget but have to make do with Pure Grid Calendar Widget if I use Launcher Pro. And for some reason, if you're a root user, you still cannot change the battery icons (I've created another thread about this), but I probably should not blame this on Touch-Wiz or the ROM Samsung uses, as rooting is fully a personal choice. I just wish we have themes to turn off the ugly green Android is so fond of using (can't wait till ICS comes out because I see blue finally!)
9) S-Pen is hard to draw with off-table - Unless you have a super steady hand, I find writing (not to mention drawing) on the Note a challenge. There's several promotional videos from Samsung showing off the artwork that can be done with the S-Pen just by holding the Note in your hand as you would a PDA but I personally doubt it'd be easy unless you're a seasoned artist with a very steady hand. However, the S-Pen is FUN to use and amazing for jotting notes, so again, it should not be something to deter you from getting this phone if you don't plan on replacing your WACOM pen tablets with this.
10) Battery Removal required for SIM or MicroSD cards access- You'd think a phone of this size will allow you to swap out at least the MicroSD without having to power off, but unfortunately, this is not feasible with the Note.
So far, these are the few "quirks" I don't like about the Galaxy Note, but otherwise, the phone never ceases to amaze others not only because of its size but it's functionality and brilliant screen.
P.S. Forgot to add one more point, there are no A/V or media ports other than MicroUSB and 3.5mm audio jack (no HDMI or other ports) which doesn't bother me but might others.
If those are your gripes, this phone must be amazing.
Thanks for your POV!
With regards to 1,6 and 8, I agree that these are Samsung wide problems at the moment. But obviously its all down to personal preference. I use ADW Ex on my SGS2 but the fact that you can't use the Samsung S widgets on it means I might actually try TW for a while first!
Just out of interest, where did you get your Not from and how much did you pay in total for it?

I got it from a shopping plaza in Mong Kok District of Hong Kong. That plaza sells many 2nd hand as well as new imported phones. I got mine for HK$5760 (~USD 742), they also allowed me to trade-in my good ol' Milestone 2 so I only paid a total of HK$4160 (~USD 536).
1) Notification LED - hopefully we will get a custom kernel with BLN support soon You have rooted it, right??
8) So TouchWiz sux - but there are lots of other Launchers to choose from.
10) Actually you CAN remove the SIM and sdcard without removing the battery - you just need to pry up the edge with a small tool - they are pretty flexible.
I'll add two gripes to your list:
- The protective camera glass on the back is slightly RAISED, so it is gonna get scratched up FAST if you ever put your Note down on any dirty/uneven surface. And because the glass is actually part of the CAMERA (not the case), it's probably not replaceable.
- The S-pen is too small, and pretty laggy in some apps, making it not even worth using (like drawing). And its touch-sensitivity is pretty worthless. And you can't tap the menu/back buttons with it.
But I still love my Note And it's only gonna get better as the custom ROMs start showing up.

I got a Polish "plus" Network model too (from handtec.co.uk) - how weird. Poor quality control...
First some comments on the above gripes :
noled shows you led notifications without you needing to touch the screen. It's pretty decent. I'd rather have a real led but it's not bad at all. Try it.
If you are using the stylus you hit the button and swipe up for the menu, and or swipe left to go back. That's how you get around the button issue.
Now my gripes:
The capacitive buttons (menu, back) are WAY too sensitive and I find myself accidentally hitting them constantly. One handed use is almost possible too, but I keep rubbing those buttons and it wrecks everything.
I think I need more friction to write with the stylus - I don't use it much at the moment.

Do you find that NoLed impares the battery function of your phone? I have heard reviews on the SGS2 that it kills the battery while others say it is OK. As far as I am aware, NoLed turns the entire screen on while displaying its mini icons, would be nice if it could just activate a few icons on the top left or right of the screen.
I guess they put the notification LED in the Nexus, keeping it excluisive to that.
I am willing to buy the Note sight unseen because I love my friends S2's and I drooled over the LTE HD edition coming out. The Note is like 50 times better. I can't wait for my shipment on Monday!

Depends what you're running. With Launcher Pro, I do feel a wee bit of lag when I use the Pulse widgets on one of the homescreens, I have 3 of those dragged out though and they all need to gather data, so I wouldn't expect it to go smoothly.
Otherwise, i'm playing Asphalt 6 while playing music with PowerAmp and I don't feel lag.

First of all, remember that this is amoled and each pixel is lit up individually. So it doesn't 'turn the entire screen' on unless you turn the entire screen white. Or you run on an lcd phone with a backlight.
It runs fine for me at the moment Although i want to do more battery tests to see what uses how much power. It could still be the case that noled drains battery via cpu usage or wakeups.

This is from the NoLed FAQ, similarly to what I have read online, opinion varies:
Q: What about battery drainage ? How much battery percentage does this app consume per hour ?
A: To answer this question, I quote our friend evilhunter101 from xda-forums.com
"That's a question that simply can't be answered for you and everyone else who wonders. Why? Because all the available settings change the battery consumption, as well as what other apps you have installed and what kernel or OS you are using. Simply put, try the app. If you like it, keep it. If not, uninstall it. You have literally got nothing to lose.
P.s. I see no difference with or without NoLED, while others swear its a battery hog. I imagine we have it set up very differently."

I am a short guy with pretty small hands, so I'm curious about how you feel using it. Is it even possible to do anything one-handed for you? Do you feel it's comfortable holding in one hand and using the other other for navigating? And finally, is it comfortable using the on-screen keyboard, might it be too big?
Thanks for your input so far. Good having people saying what's not so good as well.

Where did you get the Galaxy Note? at the plaza in argyle street at the end of ladies market? If so I couldn't find one...
Fair comments,
Actually make me feel a lot more confident in buying the Note - just need to convince the wife now!

Not following this comment. NoLED doesn't require you to press any buttons.

It's a tad better if you make calls without a headset, but as a girl, it looks super silly holding up the Note to my face. I use Marshall Minor earphones for conversations and they worked wonderfully well with Motorola, not that great with Samsung.

Wait, you're saying call quality through earphones is WORSE than call quality just holding the phone? This is very alarming as that's how I make most of my calls. Can anyone else confirm this?
Just curious on your opinion.
My newer one is coming in the mail soon, but how does the Note 2014 compare to the 2012 edition? Worth the upgrade or not?
Much happier, or what features do you wish it kept? Etc.

I loved my N10.1-12; until I got a N3. The 386 DPI display made the 147 PPI display on the N10.1-12 downright painful. There's really nothing I'd say I miss s/w or feature wise when compared to the N10.1-14. Multiview's completely different and S Note's been updated. You'll hear people say they like the "old way" better. While it's different, once you get use to it, Samsung's logic behind the changes starts to make sense. S Pen being relocated is great because you can access it when the tablet's standing. And I love the new Book Cover. It uses magnets to stay closed (the N10.1-12's flopped around) and you can set Daynote to open when the cover's opened which gives you an enlarged Action Memo space to begin immediately taking notes as well as displaying the weather and your day's agenda. The Book Cover also shuts down the Note when it's closed. People have said the front facing speakers of the old Note were better but I mostly use headphones and haven't noticed a big difference the times I've used the external speakers.
Here what I consider the biggest improvements between the two:
Display. I think it's gorgeous.
Form factor. It's pretty amazing how much bulk and weight Samsung was able to remove.
Software. I like the updated apps that are common, Air Command, Scrap Book, and Action Memo and the generally more contemporary feel.
Things I question:
In some places, like Notification Panel icons being over 1" square, the phone UI on a tablet isn't particularly well implemented.
The new Note is faster than the old but not by as much as the h/w should allow. Good news is the Magazine UX-equipped units at CES looked much faster and more fluid than the N10.1-14 so performance should be addressed by updates. Pinch-zooming to display all home pages on the N10.1-14 isn't particularly pretty.
Battery charging on the Exynos models (P-600/P-601) is slooow - slower than the old N10.1-12. The S-800 P-605 has Qualcomm's Quick Charge feature and charges unusually fast.
I love my N10.1-14 and have no regrets buying it.

I wrote this as soon as I got my Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 and before I sold my old one: LINK
Now after owning it for about 2 months, I have to honestly say I have no regrets. I actually use it more than my laptop most of the time. The screen is so, so much superior it's no contest. I absolutely love watching things on my tablet and I do so more than the previous gen. For the first time I've also started reading magazines properly on it because the resolution is just so much more pleasing. I prefer the form factor as the newer tablet is lighter now. I can't really remember if the speakers are worse or not to be honest but I think they are fine for me and my needs. This wasn't a necessary upgrade for me, the previous gen was a very good tablet in its own right, but this one is exactly what I wanted. I'm not sure if I'll upgrade again unless it completely changes. I much prefer the look, the form factor and the screen resolution. However, I'm not really fussy probably in comparison to others, before this I never owned a full HD device as I only received my Galaxy Note 3 after. I personally think you will be happy with it though.

Hopefully in the refurb process Samsung adjusted whatever h/w issues were causing the problem. It's kind of been quiet about the issue lately so I'd guess later builds are fine. A lot of people returned or exchanged their tablets, some multiple times, so there's no question that returns that are now refurbs were affected. It's up to Samsung and luck as to whether you will be.

In the end I sold it to a friend but I basically charged slightly more than what I was going to sell it on sellmymobile.com since I gave him a MHL to HDMI adapter also. I got £155. I'd say check on that site to see how much you can sell your tablet for, it's pretty easy as I sold my first galaxy note this way.
I realised the bluetooth keyboard problem was only with the OfficeSuite app. I changed to Jotterpad X and using my bluetooth keyboard was perfectly fine so I'm not quite sure what happened. It's been a while since I've tried using it with OfficeSuite again. I can't say if every bluetooth keyboard will be fine, but mine seems to be okay. As I said before, I used it with the Jotterpad X app and also I've started blogging from the Wordpress app so I've written quite a bit with my keyboard. Here's a link to the keyboard I have:

How about how the new note 10.1 took out the cascade view? What was used to replaced, I use cascade view a lot. Especially while I am taking notes and Google something on my notes on the side. I would pin the internet window on top of my notes.

You can still do that. They still advertise the multiwindow feature and you can have a floating window on top, although if not rooting, the apps are limited. There is a way around that which you can check on here, but it's kind of long. I just quickly grabbed an image from google to show what it looks like: http://blogs.computerworld.com/sites/computerworld.com/files/u177/galaxy-note-101-2014-multi-window.jpg

I won't be able to root mine, esp since its refurbished. And I believe the second image is for the original Note which I have.
So you can have LectureNotes in back and have a google search on top just in a little corner - and pin it? I know about multi-window but why are people complaining about taking out cascade view as a downgrade? Thanks!

There's no Google search app for the floating window, but you can pin a browser and use that for searching. The only apps available right now are the calculator, alarm, youtube, contacts, chaton, hangouts and the default internet browser. Maybe people don't like it because you don't have as much control over the multi-window since it automatically snaps into place?

It's still there, sort of. Pen Window which you can open from the Air Command launcher allows you to have re-sizable "mini" windows running. On my 3G N10.1-14 the apps are:
Multiview now works the way it does on the N3. The N2 and N10.1-12 used completely different multiview methods and, owning both, it drove me crazy. The best part of the new Multiview is that you can have multiple instances of the same app (EG: browser) open, you can drag and drop content between windows, and the control of open windows is now a lot easier.
Another great feature is the automatic use of Multiview in certain apps. Like being in the stock e-mail app and clicking in a link in an e-mail automatically opens the URL in a Multiview window.
Scrap Book takes the old persistent clip board further by allowing you to store and categorize content anywhere you find it. And it syncs with your Samsung account so what you capture on once device is automatically available on all your other Scrap Book-equipped devices.
The drastic s/w changes between the '12 and '14 was kind of a shock at first but the more you use it the more logical the new approach Samsung's taken seems. And like the weather, with potential changes coming in M-UX, if you don't like it it may change.

There's something wrong with some N10.1-14's. Devices that connect fine for some people don't work for others even though the BT devices being attached are identical. People who had problems and exchanged their N10.1-14's had no problems with BT devices they had issues with when using their first device.
The screen on the original note 10.1 was brutal I had it for 30 minutes and packed it back up and returned it to the store - no way I could use that tablet for anything but video - reading text on it was painful - for that alone the new note 10.1 is worth the purchase along with it is much faster, etc. Etc. Etc.

Just checked that out, and I see why you don't have any problems.. For that price, problems should and are, non-existent!!!
I have had mine for a month and a half now and I still cannot put it down. This thing has been perfect for taking notes during lectures. I also use an Anker bluetooth keyboard and HP bluetooth mouse with this tablet along with OfficeSuite Pro to really make this a productivity machine. I had a few bluetooth, WiFi, and lag issues but that seemed to fix itself out of the blue and this thing is running great. Screen is amazing, it's fast for playing all the latest games (and emulators). Best tablet I have ever used definitely worth the upgrade IMHO.

Quick OT question. How the hell do you get Office Suite Pro to cut/copy/paste when using an off-screen keyboard? I can highlight text just fine but there's no option available to do anything with it. The "help" says a cut/copy/paste sub-menu should pop-up but it doesn't.

I usually have to use the Spen to do that. Maybe they'll fix this in an update because sometimes it is a little annoying.
EDIT: When i double click on a word within a document it highlights it and brings up the menu to either cut/paste/copy. I was just typing an essay for my Pyschology class when I noticed this.
I guess you could say the screen alone is worth it. But there are a few other problems that I'm not happy with on the 2014 Edition. I don't like the hardware and capacitive buttons I much prefer the software ones after every other device I own is software. I hate that apps will adapt to hardware keys and require you to hit the capacitive menu key instead of including the menu button in app. This leaves me searching for a menu key. The tablet is also really laggy. Like really really laggy. Overall I prefer everything about the OG one except the screen, which was horrendous enough to make me put up with this one's shortcomings.
I recently bought the Moto 360 and couldn't be happier. These two look like they belong together. So far everything is syncing and working together smoothly. The only gripe would be that you can't voice reply to a text message using the stock messenger app, although this seems to be an issue with most if not all stock messaging apps. It doesn't bother me enough to switch to Google Hangouts.

I have mine paired to my car as well as a few different headsets when I'm out of the car. Even when i use the watch as a remote to change tracks it doesn't make the phone skip a beat. This is probably due to the phone and not the watch though, as my OG Evo and EVO LTE was never able to be connected to something constantly streaming data as well as something that isn't, i.e. my car and an obd2 adapter.
The only time in my life I wore a watch was in the military but the look of the 360 makes me want one because I'm a gadget junkie. I love that Moto went round where all the others are square. How thick is it. It's hard to tell in the photos. Is it worth it and what can it do? Do you find yourself going to it before you go to the phone? Can it do GPS? I'd hate to shell out the bucks and then never use it.

I imagine thickness is going to be relative to who's wearing it. They have them at Best Buy for you to play around with, just go to their website to see if they're in stock at your local one.

It's been a long time since I wore a watch as well, but this one brought me back for the same reason. It doesn't seem that thick to me, no thicker than other watches I've owned (typical designer waterproof steel ones). The back kind of sinks into my arm which takes a bit of the width down, maybe it's subjective, I dunno. I tried to test one at the store but they wouldn't open any unless I bought one so I took the gamble.
I do find myself going to it first, but there's only so many things I can go to it for. It's really just a notification display at present - so it tells me when I get texts, email, calendar events (actually it kept me on time this morning because the notification on the watch counts down the last 60min helps you estimate how much time you have to get there). It's been cool in the morning to see weather info from Google Now, but the card goes away during the day for me at least, so to see the weather I have to ask it to show me. But I still prefer that than having to bring out my phone for sure. If you use something like Wear MiniLauncher you can also check on how your phone's battery is doing and toggle wifi or volume. But for any text entry I still much prefer using my phone. I guess what I'm saying is that I have no expectation or desire to do any real work on a watch, so I go to it first for quick updates which it's been great for.
Gps, well it doesn't really do much by it's self from my experience and understanding. It needs a connection to a phone to do anything, and when I navigated to a restaurant today on the watch I noticed that my phone was doing the navigating and just feeding the directions to the watch. And the voice was from the phone of course. It was a cool way to navigate, the vibration and having the screen right there was useful IMO.

Similar experience here. You nailed it over one point, I don't understand people who are expecting a smartwatch to do everything their phone does. If it did, it's rendering that £500+ device in your pocket useless! Google Wear seems to have the right idea in keeping it pretty much as a notification repeater with more basic interactions.

You can definitely reply through sms, I've done this a lot. I see I received a text, I read it, I say Ok Google text ___(person who just texted me), and I say what I want to text and it auto sends when I stop talking. All in all it works very well, and maybe more useful that having a reply button on the message card IMO.

Not sure I am understanding everyone correctly. I have the watch and the M8. I have used both Go SMS and Chomp SMS. When I receive a text, I tap on the text, swipe to the left (I think that way) and it says reply, I tap on that and voice reply to the message. And that's all there is to it, it responds directly to the text.
When responding directly to a text, it's extremely simple.
My 360 and M8 do go really well indeed.
My moto 360 is finally here??? its doing very well with M8 ( DESPITE of fast battert draining of both) ..i think the bluetooth connection is the biggest battery bleed of both devices!(in addition to facer) because when i did airplane mode on the watch.... Battery life is way better! ( moto then is useless then lol) I hope it can be solved in the forthcoming updates
Information:
Moto 360 version 4.4w.2
Apps: dialer, mini launcher, calculator, facer( yea its the main battery drainer), find my fone, ring remote
Htc M8: htc__622 (HK) stock rooted 4.4.3
I was really thinking about getting Moto 360 about a month back, then LG G Watch R came out but don't really like it as it is a bit chunky. I'm waiting for ASUS Zenwatch to get released in UK as that's what I'm going to get.

Shouldn't drain a lot of battery as both use Bluetooth 4
Yea thats what i know?! Ill do tests to see if its acually true or not... Also i noticed that changing alot watch faces by facer drains batter but if used it once for whole day its acceptable
I am not finding facer bring a big battery problem.
Let's face it, despite it Moto Z family being modular, not a lot of its users are buying mods because of the sheer price and also cheaper solutions to the available mods. Want the speaker mod? A Bluetooth speaker is cheaper. Camera mod, a cheaper DSLR can take better pictures, etc..
Moto may not have the brightest ideas for mods, but we as users and tech enthusiasts might have. Like
a dual camera mod, a wireless charging mod, an e-Ink screen back mod, etc. What's your idea can that really take advantage of the Z's modularity? And let's hope someone from Motorola/Lenovo can make it come true.
Wireless mode already exists. E-ink is good idea! Always on, light for battery, good for reading, even web browsing..

I think that a SSD drive mod will be spectacular, a portable disk of say 512 Gb in the back of your phone! i will buy that

I would prefer sd-card that size. I already have 256 GB, the biggest I've found

Yeah with extra battery and a dual speaker would make Moto Z Play a perfect media consumption device. Great for travelling long distances.
I have always wanted a storage mod which allowed for a full backup/restore (without root) of the phone as simply as possible. Slap on the mod and an app launches that allows you to do a backup/restore to the attached mod and it would probably require a tiny linux machine in the mod for an ADB backup. For all the ideas, I recommend getting a Moto Mod Development Kit and seeing what is possible. No need to wait for Motorola to make the mods, anyone can make their own and get them certified by Motorola and be a 3rd Party Moto Mod Maker.
A Mod that adds what the phones should of had to begin with!
Wireless charging.
Ant+ support.
Sure, I would love an e-ink mod. Loved my yotaphone, which had wireless charging and Ant+ support. Any mod should should include these two basic support features that cost pennies.

The wireless charging mods already since inside the phone is simply impossible because of the strong magnets holding the mods. You could only make pretty much a charging cable that connects to the pins magnetically but then I don't know if that makes too much sense. A mod can charge the phone but the question would be if it is at least as fast as Qi since that is already significantly slower than over cable thanks to quick charging solutions.
An eInk display would sure be an idea. But Ant+ is simply dead. The only company I know that's still riding that dead horse is Samsung.
Otherwise, the camera mod is a good idea, but I'm surprised Hasselblad dared to put their name on it. It's a worse potato cam than what we already have, it doesn't even has any stabilization, the only thing it can deliver is optical zoom. If it would be at least as good as the Google Pixel 2 camera it would be at least worth considering, but that one is really a disgrace for a camera expert as Hasselblad.
And of course, they have to become much cheaper. Asking 25 bucks for a stupid stile mod is a joke. I'm glad I got mine for 10

About wireless charging. Are you sure you'll love it? For now the technologies of wireless charging is pretty much stuck. Charging is slow & you can't touch the phone.
I prefer use cables, i can play with it even when charging and those turbopower are lightning fast!
A desktop dock (the OneCompute Moto Mod) seemed to be in the works but has not launched yet. That's what I would like to see.
A hifi dac. Or dual hifi dacs. I want an audiophile grade moto mod. A headphone out and maybe rca outs. Finally, aptx-hd for liget bluetooth streaming.

Aptx-hd is implemented in upcoming 8.0 update.
Yeah true. I had a zte axon 7 with 8.x and loved the aptx-hd and ldac from Sony. Both were huge improvements.

Yeah, with good headphones noticeable difference. As well as lossy mp3 compression
I heard from a Module which will make your Moto Z Waterproof and will let you use the device under water. That's it!
I can not post links yet. It means "Waterproof MotoMod" or "Adventure Mod".

No, a complete housing to dive with. Similar to action cams. The mod could, for example, have an extra light.
I have some Moto Mod ideas:
- Extra battery with rechargeable battery by solar energy.
- Virtual Reality Headset Mod.
- Style Shell with LED. It will change color when there are new notifications.
- Style Shell with mechanical watches behind.
- A mod can receive radio waves.
- A mod with secondary screen.
Need someone make they come true

- I saw it as startup. Solar panels are not very efficient, unfortunately. And phone is not on the sun enough to gain much
- How your idea should look like?
- Also saw it as startup, maybe is available already
-
- Do you mean to listen radio? Not so long time ago, mobile phones had that function built in
- What would be the purpose of secondary screen?
Have one with FM radio and ir blaster and laser rangefinder and night camera.......
