I should have posted this two months ago when I found out, but got lazy. The now $30 fee reminded me and I decided I should pass the info along. I had a conversation with:

This conversation was about the NFC blocking but I baited her with a comment and she responded by saying something along the lines of "Unlimited Data would no longer be an option on "Advanced" handsets released later this year (2012). When you upgrade to one of these new "Advanced" (IE Smartphone) you will have to give up your unlimited data plan and pick a paid package."
She would not tell me when it would happen, but said that Verizon was not under any obligation to continue to grandfather people with unlimited data. I fully expect this to happen as soon as Quad Core phones hit the market.
Just one more drop in the bucket. Removing unlimited data packages for new subscribers, removing early upgrades, every two discounts, blocking Google from releasing direct updates for developer devices like the Galaxy Nexus, and now the $30 upgrade fee.
No, I did not record the phone conversation but the removal of grandfathered unlimited data will happen, and sooner then later. Feel free to chalk it up to a rumor if you don't believe me but when it happens, don't say I didn't warn you.

I have herd some things, but not like this. I think this is about spot on.
Now I will hold on to both of my unlimited data for dear life.
Edit: yes they do throttle 4G and will be doing more and more intill the next iphone and then will pull an AT&T X2. They will likely force you out of unlimited when you upgrade or if you you are on a "old" 4G phone they will throttle you on 4GLTE. I know, becuase I was throttled on 4G and then I stoped using the phone for 3 days, now I am unthrottled and sit at 90+hours of uptime with 2GB of use.

Now he did use a crap load of data and I think he got what was coming, but I know when the new iphone with LTE comes out, WE ARE DOOMED. I have a 2nd line with unlimited data on AT&T, thats my back up plan. If not oh well.
Once again Verizon showing how little they care about their customers. From a legal standpoint they could probably do this because when you get a new phone you are under a new contract. But what if you buy the phone from ebay, etc and just add it to your plan. You are still technically under the same contract but they could track ESNs and force your plan to switch.
I hope they don't do this. I just left att after months of looking to take over someones Verizon contract. I found a person with 2 unlimited lines hopefully its not short lived. I really don't want to go to sprint

Verizon is CDMA only. The SIM cards are used for LTE, not GSM (a few phones have SIM slots for international GSM, but they're useless while on the Verizon network). So no, there is no buying of unlocked phones from Verizon.
Speaking of this, in China and other Asian countries, CDMA devices have SIM cards called R-UIM cards that work exactly the same way as GSM SIM cards, but CDMA carriers here in the US want to be able to stranglehold you in terms of what kinds of phone you use.
Hopefully Sprint still has unlimited data and their act together when my current contract is up in two years. Verizon charges an arm and a leg for their services and it's not enough? They have to nickel and dime us every step of the way. Aside from decent service I can't say that I feel like I get a whole lot for my money with Verizon. I've just had enough bad experiences with AT&T, and Sprint that I've been afraid to go back to either of them. Maybe it's not so bad these days?
I hope so too, becuase I need a 3rd back up plan and for every one elses sake.
My experience with AT&T has been very good, but I don't think that would be true if I was locked in for 2 years. Sprint has really come up in the last year or so and they seem like they are upgrading fast. (NV and LTE)
Not surprising in the least. Sprint will have to soon end too and remove grandfathered unlimited. Aside from that though, thanks for this update.

I worked with verizon for a while, and on a daily basis I was upgrading phones and allowing customers to keep these 5 or 6 year old alltel rate plans.
It is absolutely correct that verizon can remove unlimited from grandfathered accounts if it wants to, but verizon's course of action with old alltel plans and the like, suggest that it won't happen.
I'm not saying it will or wont happen, all I'm saying is that its definitely possible that they will allow you to keep unlimited data, as long as you are playing nice and not DLing 100 gb's a month on their network.

First: Yes VZW is charging an upgade fee. To say everyone is doing it is a cop out. To say that they are loosing money on equipment subsidies is true and the fee helps recap som of the cost while keeping prices competitive even with their own indirect partners.
Second, the only time you can loose a grandfathered plan per contractual agreement is a) older Altel devices that upgrade or change devices because there is no longer an Altel contract. b) you change to a basic (from smart) phone for over 30 days or c) you agree to it.
There are no exceptions to the three listed above. Don't believe me: 1800-922-0204 and ask for the loyalty department.
I love all the verizon fan boys who think they are the best and they would NEVER pull some thing over them like: taking away unlimited data, THROTTLING or the $30 "upgrade" fee.
The contract only lets you keep grandfathered plan's for the lenth of time you signed up for (AKA 2 years) and then They can make you sign a new contract with out unlimited data if you want to upgrade and if you don't upgrade, then they can just take it away.

I really came in under the wire on this one. I upgraded about three months ago; still have my unlimited data. I never really understood why providers are simply eliminating unlimited plans rather than charging exorbitant amounts of money which plenty of people would pay.

Nope, this is what I think they will do. They are thinking about razing the price up as well to get every one off of it, like AT&T did the $20 unlimited to 30, but with more kick. I have herd every thing from 30 going up to 50, all the way to it replacing the 20GB plan.
Any way: They are going to do some thing soon and well I will just say it's not likely going to be good.

Pretty much the exact thing I heard when I called them a few weeks ago. I've been out of a contract for almost 6 years now (just lucky that my phone breaks when they dont have any more and get a free upgrade). I currently have a HTC Trophy with Windows Phone 7 and dont have a newer one because they have not gotten newer WP7 devices, YET.
I called them up and was asking on new devices and presented them with the same question. According to Verizon, I can buy a new Smartphone today, sign a new 2 year agreement and I still will not lose my unlimited data plan according to them.
Of course the day I do it, that will be my first question and will ask for it in writing
As of this moment you are not forced off of your unlimited plan when upgrading phones or switching between current phones

So it's ok for Verizon to publish her information on their public website, but not for me to copy and paste it from that site to this one? I will edit this post later to provid the direct link to Verizon's corporate PUBLIC website that lists this PUBLIC information. As a "former Verizon employee" you should know all about their public site and what's listed on it. Even if it wasn't Verizon does not respect its customers so I have no respect for their employees at the upper level management.

Fyi I have never gone over 5gb on my cell. I don't abuse my unlimited. Oh and I am rooted and can tether for free. Not everyone deserves to be ppunished for the crimes of a few. Wish VZW would figure that out but in reality people abusing unlimited is just an excuse to increase profits, which gets their CEO a bigger bonus. It's all about the money. Corporate Greed.
I think we should educate people about prepaid service and how much money they will save when switching over. People seem to just hop on a contract, thinking it's the only way to have cell service, when that's just not true.
Virgin mobile has a good comparison chart here. Their service uses sprint's network and costs a fraction of what Sprint's service costs. (Sure, Virgin doesn't roam on verizon like sprint does, but if you're covered by sprint without roaming, you're fine. The coverage is better than you'd think for VM).
Beyond Virgin Mobile, you have, in my opinion, one of the best deals around: Straight Talk's Bring Your Own Phone program. You can get a sim card for either AT&T's or T-Mobile's network and simply put it into any phone you like. $45/month = unlimited everything + no contracts. I am using their AT&T sim right now in my galaxy nexus and have so far been really impressed at their service.
So can someone who has a contract explain what the logic behind signing is? It just seems like you're pissing your money away.

But there is one thing that I always have a glitch in mind though, that is the "unlimited data" advertised by ST or the alike, is it REALLY unlimited data like one tied to contract? or just a so-called MOBILE WEB, which is NOT 100% like we expect?

There is also the T-Mobile/Walmart deal for $30/month if you don't talk a lot (100 voice, unlimited text, 5 GB of full speed data).

-Most people cannot see savings long term - only that the subsidized price is cheaper.
-Roaming agreements - prepaid has none.
-U.S. carriers often limit prepaid options for phone/plans. (e.g. you cannot use phone X on plan Y).
-U.S. carriers (except T-Mobile) don't have reduced cost for postpaid, off-contract plans. Going off contract, postpaid with AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint means that you pay full retail price for the phone AND the same monthly price you would if you were on contract.
I am able to do with my phone whatever I want when I need to do it.

- Are you sure? I use ST and I roam on T-mobile when I don't have AT&T coverage
- I agree completely. They do with cdma phones. GSM, however, makes it very difficult to limit what phones your prepaid customers use

I also can do whatever I want when I need to do it, including switching phones and/or providers at no cost, and yet I pay a fraction of what you pay for otherwise identical service.
The postpaid pricing model just perplexes me. Prepaid should be more expensive because of the flexibility, yet it's that flexibility to switch that keeps prices competitive. Postpaid, on the other hand, gets to charge whatever it wants for service.

Ok got that off my brain, now I have been "throttled" at 7.5GB. Verizon this meens war, with ICBMS or in my case the FCC, the BBB and when I can make a good set of videos the NEWS.
I am uploading my proof now and I had used 72GB with AT&T still could get 4-8 times more speed.
Verizon I played with the ball in your court, now you will be playing in mine and your not going to like it.
Point: Verizon you suck and you HAVE TO BE M.A.D to join them now. there 4G is garbage
moving on to pre paid: I am trying to get my dad to use ST , but really it would cost a bit more, becuase he use's Pre-paid allready. LOL

In fact, "service" departments associated with TracFone wireless (ie: TracFone, Net10, SafeLink, StraightTalk) are complete garbage. I used to sell lots of their prepaids and it was all nice and cheap till you need to contact them. Hopefully their IVR can help you because if you are transferred to a live representative, may god help you, because TracFoney won't.
That's why I have a contract, oh and insurance.
Actually, I agree with t the post above. I love having a cheap plan on an awesome phone but the customer service is horrible. Also, I have recently read horror stories about people getting kicked off of ST with no warning because they exceeded their monthly data limit. Not having a contract means you can leave any time, but also means your provider can change the rules or kick you out at any time. Apparently there are people on Verizon grandfathered into old unlimited data plans who use 70+ gb per month and have no repercussions. That's epic: D

I have BOTH postpaid (family plan) contract service and THREE prepaid accts. (Two with T-Mobile and one with RedPocket)
I still prefer the customer service and the account level detail (online) with postpaid....

And my GNex was subsidized. Paid 100$ for it. 3 year contract but each year I can get a new phone subsidized.
I am paying less for my plan and my phone than the no contract folks over the duration of my contract. I just know how to talk to the workers for deals, and discounts.

Actually, if you were on prepaid through even Verizon ($50/month), you'd have unlimited everything. However, were you to switch to Virgin Mobile, you would only pay $70 for 2 lines, however you would get 600 minutes/month, which is probably still more than enough for 2 people.

I didn't sign it. Hubby did while I was out of town so he could get his shiny new iPhone 4S even after I had spent literally hours on the phone with AT&T arguing over the PDA Connect Unlimited feature I had grandfathered on my Atrix. 6 months after I purchased the Atrix & Lapdock and had merrily been tethering & docking with absolutely no problems--AT&T decided they weren't going to honor my PDA Connect Unlimited feature any more and I absolutely must "upgrade" to their 4G data plans. WTF? Why wait until I'm 6 months into a contract to change it? And their excuse was that my now 6 months old Atrix wasn't "compatible" with my current data plan. Really? It works fine for me. Long story, short--they agreed to credit me for the remaining 18 months of my PDA Connect Unlimited feature & I agreed not to tether any more. Customer service is a concern? This is the same company that way back in the day actually told me that Free Call Forwarding doesn't mean we won't charge you for it--it just means you can do it all you want. Also the same company that tried to tell me that I absolutely had to upgrade my old Nokia (Charlie's Angels phone) to a GAIT phone because it was going to stop working. How long did those GAIT phones last? Not nearly as long as my Nokia. I can't speak for the other big US cell carriers but AT&T has the absolute worst customer service reps on the phone and franchise stores. The company store reps are much better but only enough to fix whatever the dingbats in corporate broke or tried to screw me out of. On June 24th--the first iPhone is going to Straight Talk. In November the second iPhone is going to whomever is the best deal at the time. Next year in May--the remaining iPhone and my Atrix will kiss AT&T good bye forever! As for insurance--try Square Trade or Service Net or better yet--look at the freaking deductible AT&T is charging on cell phones. For my Atrix, they wanted to charge me $6 per month and should anything happen to my phone--I would have to pay $150 deductible. I bought the phone refurb for $99. Are they crazy? At one point--they wouldn't even offer insurance on smart phones.
Sorry to hear about that. There's a reason why major carriers are so much more profitable than small prepaid ones.

I agree. Actually there are some good prepaid deals for just talk and text too. Smart Talk is 35. My smartphone plan is only 30 and if I used Sipdroid for talk over data I could have unlimited talk too but I only get EDGE until T-Mobile refarms 1900 HSPA in Wichita but there are some good deals if you just look around.

The last phone I purchased directly from VZW was a full-price Note 2. To upgrade the phone, I went to VZW website, selected my full-price Note 4 and attempted to check out. However, to complete the checkout, VZW required me to make changes to my plan where continuing the Unlimited Data feature was not an option. Manager at the local VZW outlet confirmed the same; they can't sell me a full-price phone without changing the plan.
Had to purchase my VZW, carrier unlocked phones from Amazon.
well that's bs. good thing is it seems more companies are making universal phones that can be activated anywhere... like the nexus 6, and the new moto x and new nexuses comin out... meaning, I'll never again buy a phone from Verizon itself with their ugly branding. yay!

I wonder if the new phone came with a new Sim? When I upgraded last, the procedure to keep unlimited is to toss new Sim (burn with fire then microwave) and install old Sim for first activation.
Funny, I just ordered my phone on the 13th and it did nothing to my unlimited data. Bought from the Verizon Web site. It was a certified pre owned.I have been out of contract with unlimited data for years.

just asked my old boss who runs his own retailer... they can sell off contract no problem. it's like when you goto verizon and buy off contract, they still want your number and stuff.. but it's like, i'm just buying a phone full price, you don't need to know anything about me... yet again, another reason why I never buy from corporate verizon and only use retailers.

I bought one 3 days ago and kept unlimited data no problem. I would call CS and complain LOUDLY. A few months back I had a sim card go bad and when I took it in to get replacement, the rep changed my plan to 2 GB. Month and a half later I get an email about overuse of data and when I called in and explained what happened they gave unlimited back to me. She said within 30 days it is much easier to correct, but, they had to put in a service request for mine, which, took about 2-3 business days to reinstate. Good luck!
I can't see a corporate store do this, so must be a franchise store to screw up like that.
The people in the stores have been told to do what ever it takes to cheat you out of the unlimited data, that is first hand knowledge from a store manager in the family. As far as the phones go, you should not have been able to buy the phones without changing your plan, all phones from verizon are full price no more upgrades and require changing your plan, wether you pay cash or on the little deal on a monthly basis.
How about buying an unlocked compatible phone from Amazon or elsewhere? Will they try to force you out of the unlimited data plan to activate?

not if you're buying full price. I got the new moto x.. has nothing to do with your plan. it's just like buying any product on amazon. click buy, bam, done. throw your sim in, and it activates. verizon had absolutely nothing to do with the process and I love it.

My M8 is on its way out after spending 30 seconds at the bottom of the lake. It still works, but no 4g, and charging issues, so I want to get a M10. I have unlimited data with Verizon so I will be buying the phone outright. My question is which is better/easier to root and whatnot, buying the unlocked model and converting it to Verizon, or buying the Verizon model? Are there any plus's/minus's to going either way?

Verizon will let you make payments and keep your unlimited data if you didn't know. that's what I did this time around. if you have Verizon just go with the Verizon model and save yourself the trouble of converting it, unless you want a black 10 I guess. you can buy it (Verizon) directly from htc.com along with the unlocked if you don't want to do verizons payment plan/ full price.
you will have to mail it (Verizon model) to sunshine mail in unlock service to unlock the bootloader and s-off but that will only take a couple days. unlocked model you can do at home is the only benefit for going the unlocked conversion route

My question is which is better/easier to root and whatnot, buying the unlocked model and converting it to Verizon, or buying the Verizon model? Are there any plus's/minus's to going either way?

I wanted the grey one and since VZN only has silver, got the US unlocked version. Was happy to be able to unlock and SunShine S-0ff it at home. Easy peezy.
Used our dev's great guides here to convert it to a VZN phone. Then rooted and debloated it.
It is totally a joy to use. I have no overheating or any of the other issues some have mentioned.

i got the unlocked one and when i was traveling in mexico, verizon was unable to activate an international plan. it was annoying for me but not a big deal, and i actually enjoyed my vacation more because of it. so itf that's important, know that verizon can't enable an international plan because it's registered as a non-vzw device.
Went to Verizon and they said they couldn't do the payments without changing my unlimited plan, even though I was told on the chat on Verizonwireless.com they could, I didn't want to argue with them so I just said "you don't know what you're talking about, I'll buy it from htc" and walked out. Bought the Verizon version from HTC.com and got free headphones. Thanks for the help guys.

If your UDP still costs $30, they're right. They only allow UDP plans to do DPP post-price-increase (to $50).
I have unlimited data and originally ordered the Verizon phone from Verizon on the payment plan. Changed my mind after Dot and the devs found a way to completely convert the unlocked phone to Verizon version. Sent the Verizon phone back and ordered the unlocked version from HTC. Followed the conversion instructions and couldn't be happier. In addition to not having to send the phone off to get it rooted, I like having a year's worth of Uh-Oh protection from HTC. I can't think of any reason (other than maybe the international problem that was mentioned) for getting the Verizon version.

He was trying to get me on a 6gb plan, he said something about my unlimited being cheap. The minute they make me give up my udp or raise the price I'm out just on principle, the price should come down for the same service over time not go up.

Uh Oh protection is covered for Verizon phones. An HTC rep said it was and Verizon confirmed it for me.

Just saw a reddit post where you can basically sign up and get an LG V35 brand new for $149 as long as you "sign up for their service"...and I'd be more than willing to buy the phone along with an unlock code, and move it over to my T-Mobile family plan. My only worry is that because it's has Cricket's decrepit firmware installed on the device that T-Mo's features will not work (and I'm pretty sure they won't because it's not an actual T-Mobile branded device), but I figured I would just check in here to see if anyone has tried using the Cricket V35 on T-Mobile successfully with all of the extra bells and whistles T-Mo smartphones come with. I'm sure by now this is a dumb question, but I'd even go through the trouble of rooting this joker, FlashFire some random T-Mo firmware on to the phone, and see if I can get the extra features working. Please don't hate too much since it's such a good deal, but I had to ask the experts before I made a stupid move.

Actually, the cricket variant comes unlocked, so you don't need to flash it in order to use on T-Mobile. I believe I plugged in a mint mobile sim card and saw an option to enable WiFi calling. I could be wrong. I know for a fact, WiFi calling works fine on att prepaid for this device

You bought the V35 from Cricket store carrier unlocked -- or you bought it online somewhere (eBay, Amazon, etc) carrier unlocked? If online, then it was unlocked by the seller.
Asking because I'm surprised if the Cricket variant comes from store carrier unlocked, while the one from AT&T is NOT.
I just bought another AT&T V35 online already carrier unlocked by the seller. I now own two, unlocked that way. One still has AT&T firmware.
By the way, even US998 V30 (official carrier unlocked V30 variant) has T-Mobile WiFi calling.
LG never made the LG V35 for Cricket...it's all unlocked inventory being sold off at a deep discount, which is why people are buying them left, right, and sideways just to use n T-Mobile and other MVNOs of the sort. I'm just wondering if the normal firmware has T-Mo VoLTE/VoWiFi built-in to it's current firmware or if I do need to pull out LGUP and flash a ULM firmware to get support for it since I know that it works on Google Fi which makes me think that it should work possiby even without a firmware upgrade. I know for a fact all Cricket LG V35 smartphones come unlocked, period. They don't even have Cricket boot logos when you start them up and I'm almost as sure that they don't even have branding at all on the phone itself except for an AT&T boot screen.. I'd flash over a ULM KDZ just to get rid of the AT&T logo though.
Once you add the first month of service at $55/month and taxes, this phone comes out to $225 really but i guess still worth it for a new phone. I bought mine used for around $160 and so far love it. I just wish it could be rooted and in my opinion the better processor, memory, and audio than v30 barely outweigh the benefit of having root on V30. I have both and have been trying to decide which one to keep lol.
Edit: I can also confirm WiFi calling with Mint sim on this phone.
I got this deal few days ago.
I can confirm that the device is unlocked with no cricket / at&t branding on the phone. There is no cricket / at&t boot logo as well. I only see the LG logo on boot.
And after activating it with Cricket, I immediately changed the plan to 30 dollars per month and the extra 25 dollars has been credited to the Cricket account.
So far, I am loving the device.
O can confirm wifi calling works on TMobile once you enable it on the settings. Volte also works because in the phone app the call button has HD icon on it. I tested this on my cricket v35 which arrived today, with a TMobile SIM. Hope this helps.

These providers aren't interested in selling hardware. They're interested in getting new customers and retaining them. You're locked in for 6 months if you buy the phone at the special price. Otherwise it's $300.

I know they're trying to lure in new customers, but if they're gonna sell me an unlocked V35 for $149 I'd pay for it and just use the phone on T-Mobile since apparently it's the unlocked version of the phone. It doesn't have any Cricket branding or software on it for some odd reason, and one person has stated that it even works on T-Mo WiFi Calling and VoLTE. Screwing over Cricket doesn't bother me since they're selling unlocked smartphones, but even if I could purchase a locked V35 and then unlock it with a code I would still consider it. I'm still happy with my V30+ 128GB though, and considering buying it just to replace this V30+ since it has 6GB of RAM and the Snapdragon 845. If it works on T-Mo it's a much cheaper option than buying a Galaxy S9+ that's for sure.
Also apparently all V35 phones are unlocked in the US according to the Android Pie update released last month.

It's $149 + forced to pay for six months Cricket service legal contract.
You can be sued or be sent to Collections for "screwing over Cricket".
Or you can pay full price of $300 and buy it outright with no strings.

Cricket has never once enforced contracts...it's entirely a prepaid phone company that runs on AT&T towers. They can't force you to pay for six months of service because they can't trap you in a contract since they only do prepaid phone service. AT&T could enforce it, but Cricket doesn't have the ability to...they don't even run credit checks or get all of the information necessary to access your credit, so how could they force you to stick with Cricket for 6 months if they sell you an unlocked phone? The second month they expect payment, you could just stop paying them and then the service would be cut off...that's it. If you want to be extremely sure you could setup a Privacy.com card and use a one time payment to Cricket in order to buy the phone, and then in 30 days they just cut off your service and that's all there is to it.

If you sign a purchase agreement (CONTRACT) contingent on you paying for six months of service, then it's STILL CRICKET property until you pay in full.
$149 is not the full price. It's the down payment.
Sure you can use it on T-Mobile WHILE STILL PAYING FOR CRICKET SERVICE.
But you'll no longer have your T-Mobile phone number. You have to port it to Cricket to get this deal.

Indeed I did, and I would never port my phone number to Cricket. I would get a new number from T-Mobile (EDIT: Actually it's Ultra Mobile), pay 1 month of service, and then stop payments completely. Cricket does not have the authority to run credit checks and they do not blacklist your phone's IMEI if you stop paying, and since they are selling an unlocked phone there is literally nothing Cricket/AT&T can do about it. The only thing they can do is shut off your service for the new number that Cricket assigns to your account and that is it because if you wanted to come back to Cricket, they still want you to have your phone ready to go and you'd have to purchase a new BYOD Cricket SIM card. They do not even have the capacity to impact your credit score or blacklist your phone for stopping payments on your plan if you pay for the phone in full, and you are paying $150 for the entire cost of the phone - it's not being purchased on a payment plan nor do they charge an equipment fee for the V35 after paying for the device in full. Every single month after the first 30 days you pay $50 plus taxes and that's it. I did read the terms thoroughly and that's how I know if you port in the number from a temporary place like activating a T-Mobile daily SIM card and using that number to port in and that is all that is required. T-Mobile daily prepaid SIM service = $1 per day.

The terms can say anything they want to, but the phone itself comes unlocked directly from Cricket, and the only way that Cricket could touch you is if you purchased the phone and paid for your device in payments, as in 30 dollars a month for 24 months. Cricket doesn't and never will finance phones for just six months, because that would be dimwitted of a company to do. Cricket's generic terms are that they will not UNLOCK a smartphone until the phone has been on their network for at least six months - not that it has to be paid off over a six month term. Since the LG V35 sold by Cricket arrives at your door stop comes unlocked, how are they going to ding your credit? They don't even ask for your social security number or driver's license number when checking out, only payment information. I'm not trying to start an argument for the sake of my ego...arguments on the internet are inherently dumb in the first place and I'm only trying to help you and other people that also think Cricket will wreck your credit report if you don't stay with a prepaid cellular provider for six months. If you don't believe me, launch a chat session with Cricket and link them to that offer page and ask them what the total cost of the phone is if you port in your own number and what happens if you stop paying for service after the second month of service. Their answer will be "Your service will be suspended, and no we cannot report your non-payment to any of the three credit agencies because we are a prepaid phone company and you paid for your device with a single payment and not over multiple months or years like postpaid carriers attempt to lure people into. We also can't blacklist the device because it's been paid for in full, and because the phone hasn't been reported as stolen it's still able to be used on any other GSM carrier as long as the phone is unlocked." Since the phone isn't even a Cricket branded phone and shows up at your doorstep unlocked, that's all there is to it. You're mistaken. The terms mention the standard terms that "you *may* be required to be on a plan for 6 months" before you can request a carrier unlock. Since the phone is carrier unlocked out of the box that request is not necessary. The discount requires a number port in not a service agreement..
It never says you are agreeing to 6 months of service. It would be perfectly reasonable to order the phone and turn off the service immediately and leave it in a drawer and never use it again without violating any kind of agreement.
