Rendering black colors - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i been having the s5 for about 3 months now! Sudently on day my screen got a yellowish tint on it! And it was coming and going.... after a while! It went out but now the black color has a lot of noise on it! I've tried the free app screen adjuster and other paid ones that kinda resolve the issue but not quite as a white low density ghostly look stays in the screen. Trying stuff i rooted the device messing the knox counter so i pretty much voided my warranty any one here with this issue that has been able to resolve it????

Week old nexus one, already dead pixels.

Well I received my nexus one about a week ago and I absolutely love everything about it...
Unfortunately I've just noticed two dead pixels on the screen. One top left and the other bottom right. Both about an inch in from the screens edge.
I've seen a lot of posts of people complaining about clicking edges and dust under their screens but I'm pretty sure this is not dust. The specks look identical to each other and are tiny in size. They are mainly visible on light/white backgrounds.
Unfortunately I live far away from any of the Google supported countries so doing any kind of exchange is going to be really difficult :-(
Anyone seen similar issues? Any suggestions?
There's a coupla apps on the market to check for dead pixels.
All they do is flash up white, black, red, green, blue so you can see what pixel is stuck. It might be worth trying one of those just to make sure they are actually dead pixels.
If they were working before, they might just be stuck pixels, and alot of toggling between colours may unstick them.

But if it was a stuck pixel then you would see it lighting up on dark backgrounds but these are only noticeable on white or bright backgrounds.
BTW I have already tried the market apparently and no joy.
Has no one else been noticing these?
I had one stuck pixel that appeared a couple days after i got my phone
but i fixed it and it came back like 5 times.
But knock on wood its been 4 weeks and it hasn't come back.
Mine was weird it would only show on the lock screen and it was very random but once i swiped to unlocked it went away so it wasn't that bad.
If i were you I would return it especially were its two pixels and software isnt fixing it.

OLED have very deep blacks so its hard to tell if its stuck on black or if it is dead
...anyhow if you cant fix it you should return it.
Man returning it is a such a mission as it was bought in Singapore and I'm not even there any more...
I suppose I could find a way to send it back there and then from there back to the US.... heh. The problem is that I only received the handset about a week ago so if these kinds of problems have been reported since the launch whaat says the replacement wont have the exact same issue? Which would then be a massive waste of time and money ;(
Thats the problem i even set up an RMA to return mine but had a gut feeling i would regret it. So i canceled my RMA and prayed the pixel would eventually not stick anymore.
I didn't want to take a chance of getting a referb phone with other issues.
I feel your pain EVERY device that I get now days that has a LCD screen ALWAYS has at least one dead pixel. But to my surprise my Nexus One is 100% fine .

Dead pixel?

I just got my warranty replacement yesterday. Noticed last night in a dark room that there is a small stuck blue pixel in the virtual soft button area, really an eye-sore. My first device had a hole in the backlight that looks like a big spec of dirt, so not as bad as that, but still irritating. I always seem to have the worst luck with ordering electronics (went through 5 sensations going around the warranty system )
Does anybody know of a way that it might be possible to fix this pixel? It's only visible when there is any blue or white on the screen above it. So if I download that pixel fix app and set the background color to blue, that stuck pixel screams, but if I set it to black or gray, it's not visible at all. It's only on if something above it is on. Almost like it's a short in the signal or something. Anybody know of a way to fix it? I've tried the pixel-fix it apps to no avail, albeit I haven't tried for more than 5 minutes.

Pixel fixer apps don't really work, some may report success only because it is an intermittent pixel fault that will just come back or would have fixed itself anyway. If it was as easy as flicking through a serious of colours the manufacturers of LCD panels would do this already as it costs them loads of money in throwing away panels with faulty pixels.
Some pixels will fix with gentle pressure, but often will just come back.
I'm sorry to say the only option is an exchange.

Phil
I'm getting a red pixel that shows up randomly. Either by the notification bar or navigation bar. It goes away if I touch the screen. Is this something that could get worse?

You have a faulty pixel that corrects itself sometimes when given a little bit of flexing as would happen when you touch the screen. It is unlikely to spread to other pixels, but one day the pixel may become stuck red permanently or may just fix itself for good.
It isn't uncommon to have pixels like that, although with improvements in manufacturing it's getting rarer. If you think it will annoy you, you have little option but get it exchanged.

Phil

Didn't realise you were a mod
Its a strangely behaving pixel too. It only shows if there are a lot of blue sub pixels activated on the screen. Example, if the entire screen is blue, the stuck pixel will scream, but if its red, green, or black on then rest of the screen (dark video or picture or something) the pixel is black. Unlike any stuck pixel I've had before. Only stuck blue if the rest of the screen has blue... And if the pixel is supposed to be showing black. If it's showing white or gray, it'll function properly, but if it's supposed to be black, it'll be blue.

Newer Nexus 4's ALL have yellow screens?

The first Nexus 4 I received was a rev10 I got that shipped the third week after release. It has a perfect calibration with beautiful popping whites and dark blacks. Unfortunately, I had the issue where a portion of the screen would tint yellow (about the size of my thumbprint) after it heated up.
This annoyed me so I got an RMA phone and it turned out that the entire scree was an ugly yellow even without heat. This was shipped to me from jan 1-7 I forget the actual date but it was recent. It also had a sluggish vibration issue that annoyed me. I sent it back and they sent me another RMA phone that arrived on the 14th and what do you know, it also has a yellow tint to the screen. The colors are much darker compared to my original screen as well and I tried color calibration apps but they just don't look as good as the original. This phone is a rev11 if that matters.
Do all the newly made phones have color issues? Or are there well calibrated ones out there and I should keep on RMAing?
The new screens just don't look as good and are really ugly. Someone let me know if they have a good screen
If you figured that out from an extensive poll of people then I'd understand that conclusion but from 2 RMA that's just plain stupid!
My screen is white as can be, compared to One X its looks insanely good, the One X colors pop and are really vibrant though

My screen is perfect. You should maybe change the light bulbs in your place..
I have a revision 11 and a revision 10 which is going back due to speaker crackle. The screen on my revision 11 looks cooler but I certainly wouldn't have described either as being yellow.

It goes away after a couple days...
As ctowne said, it goes away after a while. It's the glue that is used to laminate the glass and display.
Mine was pretty yellow at the start, however a couple of weeks on, and it's absolutely fine now.
Yes let us assume that the two phones we received is indicative of all phones. Makes sense.

+1. Mine was yellow. After a few days, the screen is normal. Rev. 11.

Yeah mine went away within 3 days at the very most. Also, you can adjust the screen settings with fauxclock if you really want to tweak it. As long as you have uniform yellow on the whole screen then don't worry about it. If certain spots are yellow after a few days then you might have a problem.
To those of you whose yellow tint went away, was the yellow tint uniform over the entire screen before it went away?
I just got my rev11 RMA, and I've only got a yellow tint on the bottom half of the screen. Should I expect it to go away over the next few days?
Also, just holding it side by side with my rev10, I have to say, in addition to the yellow tint, the rev11 just seems a little bit less clear and a little bit less sharp. Could be because it has the factory Google screen protector on it, I guess, whereas my rev10 has an SGP crystal clear on it.
On the plus side, the light bleed is improved on rev11. Nowhere near perfect, but signifciantly better than my rev10.
If the yellow tint goes away, I can live with the rev11. If it does not go away, it will be another RMA.
I got a Rev11 one, but never had a yellow screen from the start. I guess i've been a lucky one..
When I did my RMA, my rev_11 had a more yellow tint to it on whites.. I could really tell on apps like SMS...
colors look OK and I've gotten used to it..
My rev 11 doesn't have a yellow tint.

All 3 of my phones have had an uneven yellow tint. I RMA'd a rev10 first which had a brighter and cooler screen than the two replacements, but and uneven tint along the bottom 1/3rd. My rev11's, the one I sent back and the one I have now have a less bright display, and the one that went back had half of the screen horizontally yellow tinted, this one has yellow tint in the bottom left corner. It's the least tinted out of all of them.
FTR the uneven tint did NOT go away on my first two phones. While overall yellowness may clear up, the uneven factor doesn't change.
All 3 have had backlight bleed, was probably the least on my rev10, the first rev11 had it pretty bad along the taskbar and left/right hand sides. The second rev11 has it on the taskbar, but a little less, and the top left hand side.
The displays are just pretty crappy LG IPS panels, I'm certain most people will be on an RMA goose chase to get a phone without any uneven tinting/backlight bleeding. They'll exist, but how long do you want to ride your luck changing? I also think LG have changed the display between rev10 and rev11, as as I said both my rev11s are duller.
I got my third replacement N4 today (REV 11) and it (like the previous 2) has the yellow tint to the bottom of the screen and left edge in particular. Looks noticeably brighter the bottom half too (slight though). I'm really disappointed with this as I don't think it's looking like there will be any (or many) from this current batch that don't have this problem.
Does anyone know from a technical point of view why LCD panels are prone to this - why is it such a consistent problem in manufacturing? What exactly is the cause and why isn't it prevented? Any links? I've Googled it but no results...

half of the screen has pink shading :(

As always, every samsung device I have owned except note 2 has screen issues. Im starting to hate this amoled tech. I had 3 s4's and everyone of them has this pink shade in some part of the screen. Now this note 3 has the same issue actually its worse. I think I need to get rid of this and buy a phone with lcd screen.
Anyone noticing the same issue or am I getting realy bad luck?

get your phone exchange or refunded asap!
it sound more like a defect than a feature.
LCD also has issues.
Mine had a cream tint over 2/3 of the screen, which was not to obvious until browsing certain forums, where you'd scroll a message up and it would noticeably change color.
I took mine back to the store for exchange, and despite showing them what looked obvious to my eyes, they just couldn't apparently see it... Luckily, they where kind enough to order a new one and exchange it anyway, so will see how the new one does on Tuesday.
Some people are blind to such things, my One X had the yellow spots, so sent that in, and the replacement was much better, to they point I could easily live with it.. My two nexus 7s are fine, and every other Samsung device in their store looked good enough that I'd be happy, so I feel justified in getting an exchange...
I sold mine and bought another, lost about 50$ . Newer one has yellow hue or tint in right bottom cornor in whites and grays. I deserve this I guess, I didnt learn my lesson.

Screen tinted blue and yellow

My screen just started to change color periodically, and it looks like the screen is tinted either blue or yellow and then it sometimes flickers back to normal. It's not a dark tint but it's definitely noticeable when it changes. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I'm rooted and running one of the delayed Roms. Also I bought this phone from a friend about a month ago so I'm not really sure what kind of warranty is offered or even redeemable in my circumstance
EDIT: never mind im just dumb and didn't realize adaptive display makes the screen look stupid like that. But i am still curious as to the warranty question in case i have any future problems
