oh uhm. just rebooted my tv (turned completely off instead of standby) and now it works. somehow my tv turned the 2nd hdmi slot off.
and the best thing about hdmi in lollipop is. IT Finally Shows in maximum resolution. my tv is 1080p and now with lollipop my TN7 also sends 1080p to my tv instead of the 720p resolution cap like it was on KitKat

Is there instructions of how to setup, or just someone saying what the pre-req's were and a video showing that it works? Not ready for prime-time?

I would recommend changing the youtube embed to a normal size. I did not even notice the links at the bottom, plus it was too wide for my browser window. If someone wants to watch it fullscreen they can do it themselves.

The embed button on the YouTube site switches automatically to this size when enabling the HD checkbox.

I rearranged it.
That's better. I'll just have to get a bigger monitor then
Other than my initial I don't have much else to say other than this is very cool and promising too.
Great work.

Nice job, sonic74!
I ordered the OTG cables that you linked. (You should get commission). Which USB to VGA adapter did you use? -- Also, going to hunt down a USB to Ethernet adapter to play with and try.
Cheers,
Kermee
I saw in the hardware list, you have a "USB Dual Power Cable" listed as one of the items. Does that go between the powered USB hub and the USB OTG cable?

Kermee

It's a Lenovo 45K5296.
It's DisplayLink DL-195 based and so can do 2048x1536 over DVI. If you don't need that high a resolution, there are cheaper options. Or small USB monitors.
Yeah I'm confused on the "USB Dual Power Cable" and what exactly that is also. If you can a rough step by step on how you got it working could go along way as well.
I actually posted on reddit asking if I could link your post here.. must've missed it the first time quickly scanning. Congrats on figuring this out by the way.

hi,
do you expect this to work for other phones as well?? like the motorola milestone once we can modify the kernel? Or is it very specific to the nexus one hardware?

Yes, the Droid/Milestone is TI OMAP based. The first linux OTG/host support came from TI for this SoC. It is even in the mainline tree I think.

Ah. Nice! Thanks for the clarification!
I was thinking of picking up a cheap StarTech USB2VGA off eBay for $30 USD. Since it works in an NSLU2, I'm assuming it should work too on the N1.
BTW- I have that exact same ASUS WL-500G Premium... It's a blast to hack!
Thanks again!
Cheers,
Kermee
Sonic74, you've used a self-powered USB Hub. Is it possible to use less-intensive devices like USB Keyboard and Mouse without requiring it to be powered? Or is it a must to even work?
It's also a little confusing the binaries you've put up on your site atmo, since I presume some relate only to running X11 (ConnectBot etc) and others are for simpler things such as the keyboards? Can you make it clearer on the distinction of what's required to do what? Huge thanks.
Lastly, thanks for opening the world's eyes to the amazing possibilities with Android. The dawning that these are more than just phones, they are mobile computer devices that can be converted into gaming consoles or presentation devices or printers or scanners etc. is pretty epic
Interesting...now only if there was an Android driver for my USB FM radio I could get FM on my N1!

Plug HDMI cable in - screen goes black & phone freezes. Why? A known issue?

Is this a defect? Do I need to return the phone? I'm working with all the latest OTA updates.
I've tried to force 720p and 480p through settings, and tried auto-detect.
If I have it on the gallery app in a slideshow and plug it in, I see the "HDMI" label in the status bar before it goes black.
Strange thing is that the buttons still light up and go off with the HDMI cable plugged in if I hit the power button. But I can't use the power button to turn it back off. I have to do a battery pull.
PITA! HDMI was one of the reasons I bought this dang phone?
Can anyone out there think of any reason why this might be happening?
Thanks for any help.
You're not the only one. My cable is collecting dust somewhere for the past month. Maybe cyan will fix it? This is my first htc and I'm starting to think I shouldn't hold my breath for the company to fix it. As time progresses, I'm liking this phone less. I don't know if all htc phones are like this that it seems like it was rushed to market too soon without fixing the glaring bugs with it.

I share some of your sentiment, but not all of it. I still love this phone. But HDMI was one of their big, giant marketing points that got me to buy it. A phone with an HDMI out! That's crazy! Also, when I think of what I can do with it it's pretty cool.
But for it not to work at all? Not one bit? That is just crazy.
My theory is that they didn't realize what kind of copyright hell they were unleashing upon themselves when they put it on there, and so they intentionally broke it. If they ever release some kind of source code maybe one of these chefs can make it work.
Can you try another cable that is known to work? I've been messing around the HDMI output the past week since I got my cable (Molex #687860003, from eBay), and I think the implementation is pretty fault-tolerant. I've been plugging and un-plugging it repeatedly and never had a lockup, with and without the Gallery/Video application active. Blu-Ray rips at 1280x720p look and sound amazing for such a small device. There was some discussion on another forum about a bad run of Amzer cables (that caused lockups), so maybe it's worth borrowing someone else's cable and giving it another go before turning in the phone for replacement. Good luck.
I use it everyday without a problem (Youtube).

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I don't have another accessible. But you are correct in that I should try it with another cable (and probably on another TV as well).
I went ahead and bought this one. It looks legit, plus it's long. I'll test it again when it arrives. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...40086&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3062wt_1137
ive been using mine since day one without a problem. i bought the phone and cable from sprint on launch day.
The problem is with the old fps fix kernels. now they support hdmi out too. htc has the most lazy ass devs ever if they capped the fps cuz of hdmi... lmao

Wait! Come back!
By "old" fps fix, which do you mean? I'm using the netarchy-toastmod 3.7.2.a kernel, which supposedly had hdmi fixed. (I'm going to update to the latest now, I hadn't noticed there was another.)
Should I be using a different kernel?
Use version c.

Yeah the release notes say that HDMI is working on all 2.7.x releases. Who knows. I'll try at home and report.

Yes, a 1000 times Yes.
Its considerably smaller than I thought it would be. A bit heavier as well.
As many have mentioned before, I wish that the auto-brightness setting were brighter.
Waiting patiently for the dev community to get crackin.
so far so good. No flash sucks but u know this.
Will have to go home to test mini USB charge/connect.
I dislike not being able to download .doc files from blackboard and key input lags.

Why can't you download the .doc file? Have you installed Astro File Manager and enabled browser downloads in the settings?
+1 but i purchased this morning from vzw and it has been sitting in my car all day.
from the few minutes i played with it at the store and in the car, i like it even more than i originally did.
it was also smaller than i was expecting which is a bonus.
Yes.
Called Verizon and got them to waive my activation fee, too.
I wish the screen itself had more contrast/brightness overall (I have Auto off and brightness on full, and its still only so-so).

As ridiculous as it is, no charging through the USB. With the emergence of USB 3 devices, it would have been nice to have USB charging.

yeah i really expected it to have the micro usb as at least a back up charging port so i dont have to carry another charger with me..

Got mine this morning, copied over an mp4 movie and it plays very well. Don't like the default book reader because I don't know if its possible or not but I couldn't open my own epub files from it which would have been great because the app itself is actually nice. I'm still at work so I couldn't play with it as much as I would have liked to and the time I did have to spend on it I started installing some of my favorite apps (all free) like task manager, androzip, pandora, sketchbook...battery life has been great so far but again no real tests yet. I will def play with it more once I get home tonight and let everyone know if there are any issues. Sorry, forgot to mention how annoying the power button is as well as the extra charger that I have to carry around now.

cager external batter/sd card reader

will i be able to use the external battery and sd card made by cager ( search in dealexterme, i cant post links yet) with my nexus for watching movies etc.

Yeah, the OTG is extremely unfortunate. The 8gb is a huge slap in a face, with only ~300mb wiggle room

correct me if i wrong, the device dosent have otg support because the usb port cant produce enough voltage to turn on external devices. this external sd card reader is also a external battery so it has the voltage to turn itself on soshouldnt it work?

Its got a lot of lag.
Boot up is slow, picture taking is slow.
Maybe I'm not doing something correct but the texted pics were a waste of time.
Havent tried emailing a video or picture yet, couldnt get a video to text.
