Telus XT1097 5.1 OTA/Update - X 2014 General

Hello All,
Today - - July 20th, according to schedule posted on Telus website, is supposed to be the start of the official 5.1 OTA roll-out for our XT1097 RETCA phones.
I am not yet seeing it pushed on my end but eagerly awaiting to test it out. I thought I would start a little thread here so people can post their results, upgrade experience, overall performance etc. [MODS: if this thread is deemed repetitive or unnecessary, please let me know]
cheers,
gs

Me too! I think initially the date was July 17th. (someone on Twitter had received a reply from TELUS stating that date).

Can't wait ! still no update

Please make sure you pull it out so we can enjoy this build ! Also curious to see if any radio improvements were made.

Will be seen here if and when !

That was me. I was surprised that they answered me again. They said July 18th at that time. Then it says the 20th.
FYI, still no update

Thanks bertiespeed! Good link to have, I was wondering how active those Moto subforums are but it seems like a reliable place. So eager for this to land on my phone. I flashed the stock brazilian 5.1. firmware just to see the overall feel of stock 5.1 compared to 5.0 >> NIGHT and DAY. Huge difference.... looking forward to the RETCA version. I will post back here as soon as I get the OTA notification, for the moment back to NX rom :good:

Update 7/20/2015: Select users on Retail Wind and Telus (22.121.11.victara_retca.retca.en.CA) and Retail China (22.31.18.victara_retcn.retcn.en.CN) can download and install Android 5.1

Yeah, no OTA on my end yet. Though I have a feeling we will see a full RSD xml file in coming days... fingers crossed.

Hi all.
This was just posted on the Official Lollipop moto forum:
Update 7/24/2015: All users on Retail Wind and Telus (22.121.11.victara_retca.retca.en.CA) can download and install Android 5.1.
I am unfortunately on the road and cant do anything till after the weekend. If any of you here using the Telus XT1097 RETCA get the OTA please let us know here....

Update just showed up on my phone, away all wethough though

Never received the notification. did manual and it came up. installed and running fine .. So far so good

Just received the "5.1 Notification"! I'm on Telus Mobility.
I'm downloading it right now!
Will report a little later on.....

Does anyone have a link to the full firmware? I have 1095 firmware right now and would like to get 1097.

Anyone have full firmware?

I've been searching for 23.16.1.victara_retca.retca.en.CA full firmware to keep as backup, I still haven't found it. I prefer flashing full firmware using fastboot, rather than doing a system backup/restore using a custom recovery.

Full RSD XML firmware now available for RETCA XT1097

I was just about to respond to your message saying the full firnware has yet to be leaked BUT lo and behold I just checked and it was posted online like 24 hrs ago. Go to the full firnware thread and link to the filefactory repository...

Thank you for that, I will try to download it, but I'm not hopeful, downloading a GB from Filefactory could take from 3 to 6 hours, if it ever finishes. Motofirmware still doesn't have it.
OK, downloaded, and flashed all files, no problems (I was on CyanogenMod).

Run update now folks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------EDITED 5pm CST
EDIT: so far through this thread we have learned a few things.
1. The cellular south flash on sam mobile site is the XAR flash which is the original 4.3 US
2. The new update for US is 4.4.2 comes in at 540MB
Build number: KOT49H.P600UEUCND2
Kernel Version: 3.4.39-1146904 Sat, Apr 12th 2014
3. New icons throughout the KitKat update:
New multiwindow,
new notifications drop down window,
smaller notification icons,
all white notification icons,
definately more responsive,
multiwindow tab is gone but hold down back arrow and it appears,
multiwindow allows for a 2 app paired icon creation for easy open
-----------------------------EDIT APRIL 25TH 345 AM
We now have reports of fixing the COO update by using Kies or by downloading the Sam Mobile Cellular South ND2 4.4.2.
Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread!
The update is coming in at 540MB and the download is slow.
The reason I waited for this OTA update is because those that flashed the COO 4.4.2 in the US/North America region might not ever get back to the proper region without a full official flash. When I looked at the sammobile firmwares there were zero 4.3 versions with a North America region on it. So I doubt we will see our 4.4.2 full flash either.
Good Luck to those that did flash the COO region update.
my updated downloaded and is installing now. Will post back with the changes.

What is the benefit of having the US version over the COO one we are using now?
Looks like Samsung's servers are overloaded. My ota wont download. It says try at a later time

Not sure yet, only 75% downloaded.
Region COO being Colombia is not US from what I have read over the last 5 days.
If I ever have to sell or warranty the unit, I foresee an easier attempt to do either with the proper region.
Yep, noticed I'm getting it as well here in Northern VA
There was an "full flash" MK1 US update, so there will be a KitKat firmware available. Everything will be fine.

Total file size is 549.37 MB. It is most definitely Kit Kat 4.4.2
The Samsung Sites both official and non, show ZERO Full flashes for the SM-P600 wifi only model at 4.3
That was what worried me about flashing to COO, if I cant find the original anywhere, how am I going to find the 4.4.2 full flash for U.S.
I am happy to report the update is 90% done.
If you want to see progress bar, just go into settings and general and about and software update and update now.

I saw Motorola's blog post, but my device doesn't have anything available yet. As a matter of fact, I still don't even have the updated Google Calendar 5.0. I'd rather see the Play Store offer it than install the APK manually. Not sure when that will happen.
Keep checking. I have 2 on hand. One received it immediately, the other kept saying your device is up to date. Checked a short while later and it was there
Any word on if this official OTA will be pushed to those of us running the leaked .5 Lollipop build? Or will we still need to downgrade to stock 4.4.4 to receive the update? Thanks!

You have no choice but to downgrade back to 4.4.4 using the images Moto released yesterday. Instructions are available throughout the threads here. There is not going to be a .5 lollipop to the final version. Nothing will come OTA to your device. I took the time last night to flash back.

Is that actually confirmed by Motorola? Seems odd they would offer a soak test and then tell all the testers to go back to 4.4.4 (which is far more challenging) to get the official update.

I think we can all safely assume that now, 5 weeks after starting, the "soak test" is now long over and done with. After all, Motorola stated that Lollipop would be out on the Moto G *before* the end of 2014... and guess what? Only 12 days of that left. Unless they're into cutting it fine, this IS the final release, folks.

To be frank, Motorola likely shifted from 5.0 to 5.0.1 midway the soak test. And 5.0.2 is pretty near as well, who knows if they won't shift development for it before this rollout ends.

What does that matter, when it's all Lollipop, after all? Would you prefer they release 5.0 and not a more updated, polished release version instead? They'll release on time, believe me.

It would also be nice if people would also make note of the baseband version associated with each release. There already been enough tears from fools flashing baseband firmware willy-nilly.
Okay, I had upgraded to 22.21.16 via TWRP using KennyWuLee's packaged tool. This morning I received a notice that I had an update available for 22.21.25 which I assume is 5.0.1. So like a dummy I went ahead and accepted. Now all it does is boot into TWRP. When I restart to system from TWRP it boots up just fine then after about 15 seconds reboots to TWRP.
I assume it is looking for the stock recovery which will then allow me to install the update? So will I be safe to go ahead and reflash the stock recovery, reboot and go from there? Or should I go all the way back to stock everything?
I have an XT1063.

Are European buyers still being ignored? XT1068: no MFN, no update of any kind here. If I am interpreting Motorola forum correctly, they haven't released anything in the EU, not even a soak test.

You could be right.
I got this phone happy in the knowledge I'll always be running (nearly) the latest clean version of Android, instead I have a phone with a memory management issue running at least a month behind other continents.
Tongue in cheek aside, I do have some suspicions.
It stands to reason that the people most likely to join the MFN are those who like to tinker and who are eager to receive updates. These people are also the most like to unlock the bootloader. If something goes awry during an OTA roll-out test and the user cannot resolve the issue, support from Motorola can be requested, potentially resulting in a warranty claim, unless the device has been unlocked and was purchased outside of the EU... It therefore seems logical that Motorola would not do soak tests in the EU, where possible: It reduces the blowback in the unlikely event that there is a serious bug in the update.

That sounds like the most plausible reason they may have, if they have one. To be honest, I've got better things to think about than when a frivolous software update arrives for a non-cricital device, but your thoughts certainly are rational ones
Well I was part of the xt1069 Brazilian soak test and I have to say it's a bad joke. A lot of users didn't get the update, there was almost no support or even feedback from Motorola in the forum. And to finish it off, they had an issue with their forum software that got all comments deleted. I don't think EU users are missing much

(Q&A) Any major changes in final release of lollipop (India)

Soak Testers didn't get the final OTA and will not get it. Reason is, the final OTA rolled out today is the same one soak testers got. They just got it a little early. You can see in the screenshots that everything under About Phone is same in soak test version and final version.
So does this in theory then mean that those of us who installed the captured soak test from the other thread will not need to use any other captures in the future and be able to use the ota update just fine without any chances of bricks etc

I mean we'll be able to download ota's without worries of getting our phones bricked because of it being from soak. I remember reading the other day someone was talking about how if we want to be able to use ota we'd have to use a stable capture first in order to be able to use ota. It seems that won't be an issue though since soak and stable are the same with just different release dates so we shouldn't have to worry about that right? Sorry for being silly here. I'm not exactly an ape man when it comes to tech but I'm not feeling the need to fiddle around with roms and bootloaders on this phone when I shouldn't really need to

Well, it was me who said that the other day. That time the official update hadn't rolled out and we thought it would be a newer system version. But, now that it's released; we now know that it is the exact same OTA, so no problems for future updates either. It's like we never installed soak.

Yea i suspected something like that was going on when I saw that new thread about the stable and people were saying everything's exactly the same but just wanted some sort of confirmation. Now the only thing that I don't know if it'll affect anything in the future is that my build number on 4.4.4 was kxb now it's lxb (unless k stands for kitkat and l for lolipop lol. dunno) but i don't think it would be a problem since the system version has only the numbers changed and everything else is as it was on kitkat. Seems like the indian release works on european xt1068's as well contrary to what I read some people were saying but I guess it depends on some things...

That´s a mystery for sure!
The only difference between the indian and the european XT1068 is the fact, that the indian version has 16 gb of memory, european model has 8gb.
But there must be something more that differs! In europe even a soaktest is rumored, surveys were sent,so everthing looks like we have to wait in europe for a few more days/weeks.
But why? In another thread I considered that Motorola is afraid of being taken to court or something by european users if something doesn´t work right. European laws are tough. Isn´t that a bit far out?
Or are there any technical differences between these models which are barely known?

But there must be something more that differs! In europe even a soaktest is rumored, surveys were sent,so everthing looks like we have to wait in europe for a few more days/weeks.
But why? In another thread I considered that Motorola is afraid of being taken to court or something by european users if something doesn´t work right. European laws are tough. Isn´t that a bit far out?
Or are there any technical differences between these models which are barely known?

Aside from the ram I highly doubt there's any real difference since when I got mine in the first few days of fiddling around it had the hindi, korean and pinyin keyboards which i disabled so I don't think that would be the case....I mean why would most eu phones need these inputs from the get go. As far as laws go I can't really see much reasoning there either since it's a 130-50eu phone so they can't really have much to complain and unless it somehow magically bricks the device I doubt there would be many if any at all issues...Dunno doe. I'm not motorola so i have no idea what's going on through their heads but it's just kinda silly to me considering that everything's running fine on mine at least without any factory resets or anything....could be just me doe. On another note I think one of my little gripes about lollipop is that it doesn't hide the signal bar for my secondary sim when it's inactive and just shows it. Is this just for me or does everyone have that cuz I didn't pay attention to that on screenshots the last few days
Did some one backed up latest Indian Lollipop rolled on 23 Jan in TWRP in recovery mode and uploaded somewhere? Please share.

The 14th Jan one does have 1032.3105.
EDIT: Looking at a screenshot in that thread, it doesn't have the above mentioned version.
Weird though, I have installed the same version, but using a .zip captured by one soak tester. How could the version be different, when the update is same?

Yes, weird but there is reason. MD5 of old link and new capture matched perfect. Update in link by you and new both are same. Looks like Motorola fooled everyone and rolled same update again.
Anyways! Can anyone share TWRP backup of this version?
some apps bugs ..
Some apps like fifa 15 ut and some others are not supported for locked device and while installing from play store it showed error 505.

looks like a new VZW OTA is out

Well it's that time again VZW put out a new OTA anyone taken this yet what does it fix and is it worth it and I think all of us will be wondering is will it lock your bootloader Its unlocked
Me too, I got an OTA notification today, update size is 823.5 MB, don't know what build it is.
I have VZ Pixel, unlocked, stock rooted NMF260 with VZ service. Is it safe to install updates ? Please advice.
Thanks in advance.

I think your safe I doubt Verizon would lock your bootloader. That would wipe your device again
@Shiftydogit, @azn6929 got hold of a screenshot? If yes, pls share.
As you can see OTA notification
My guess is it's probably another patch or possibly a kernel update who knows or bug fix one of the three
Here it is

Might as well just do it lmao
So one of you said you are on nmf260. That is December. So i doubt this is a "new" update, you are just behind. Google only releases on the first Monday of the month. VZ uses the same exact releases. There is no special VZ version.
Update away.

Holy cow, they are two months behind. I had no idea, that is nuts. It is the exact same as the Google December update, FWIW.

That's the crazy part. It is the exact same as what Google released in December. The Pixel's are different...they are only using Googles updates. No changes, no bloat, no nothing.

Then us VZW users may want to start checking Google for updates instead of waiting for VZW OTAs

They are at the link below, posted the first Monday of each month. Dunno how you get them on an unlocked phone, I know it is doable...just dunno how.

EDIT: LOL, I'm an idiot. The instructions are right at the top of the page I linked to.

You'd just download them then sideload the OTA via recovery or you can flash it via fastboot/ADB but if you have TWRP installed fastboot will replace it with stock recovery
OK so with update my phone lost TWRP and root other than that bootloader is still unlocked and everything seems fine
Also build number changed after update OK then
If you are getting a new Verizon OTA, it is late. My Verizon Pixel updated to NOF26V (Feb security patch), weeks ago. NOF26V is the most current image for Verizon Pixels.
I updated. New build is NOF26V. Everything seems to be fine. But root is gone. lol
