Dead Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

unfortunatly my Nexus 4 fell into water and Iv'e tried the rice trick and it didn't helped. now after few weeks when I plug it to the charger I get a solid yellow notification light (sometimes it gets red too).
I just wondered what does it mean. it says the phone is just dead?

How long did you charge it?
Yellow light normally suggests it's charging. Let it charge for 3-4 hours and then see. But before this make sure that there is not water inside the phone.

I didn't actually tried to let it charge I 'll try it now.
it just light up when I plug the phone in. it's more orange light but the first time I plugged the phone it was red.
I replaced the battery yesterday from my friend's nexus 4 and it's still the same (the battery was half charged on his phone).
but the phone can be dead even though the battery charging right?

Yes, it can be dead. But take the chance and try to power it on

X10 doens't turn on/charge

Hello everybody... Well, my X10 doens't power and charges... It simply blinks a red led 3 times and start to get hot... I looked for this on google and just found a problem like this on X1. I removed the battery for some time, and now placed it again and started to charge... the red led blinked thousand times, but now stopped. But the phone didn't boot and still getting hot.
Someone can help with that?

No... The red led was blinking 3 times... and now, no led light. Everything is black.
Are you using an 'official' SE battery? For my x10 I have three batterys, one which came with the phone ( the official one that has sony ericsson printed on ) and two fairly cheap ones I got from ebay which are ' 3rd party cheap replicas '.
The only way I can get my cheap ones to charge is by having them in the phone cradle I got off amazon where you can stand the phone and behind that there is a slot for a spare battery to charge without it being in the phone.
I hope this makes sence so far lol
So anyway I always have one battery charging, one ready to use when the one runs out in the phone and swap them around in a cycle as I need.
If I try and charge the cheap batterys in the phone the phone will just constantly turn itself off and on until the battery is completely drained.
I would recommend getting one of the cradle chargers and make sure it has the spare battery slot at the back, mine was around £10 - £15 I think.
Iv tried to be as clear as possible and I hope this helps if its not an official battery you have

Xperia is the type of phone you have. Take out the battery and look at it and tell me if it says sony ericsson clearly on the battery itself with a hollogram or just bst-41 with a few pictures.

Youd have to rule out the charger itself first by using another one. If that works then your sorted. If it doesnt then its either the phone or battery.

Very true but like I mentioned and somehow 2 / 3 of batterys won't charge in the phone, they have to be charged in the cradle.
Works fine for me.

Well, my phone red led now stopped blinking, and dont blink in any situation... =/
Thatl be because the battery is drained completely. Look at my previous posts and read carefully what iv said and you shall hopefully find some answers.
EDIT: one last thought before I go. Turn on your pc or laptop and try charging through a usb port on there or try the mains charger instead.
I'm off to bed now so good luck and if your still stuck I'll try and help more tomorow, seriously read what iv said slowly and take it in.

I have this same problem. For me, it happened when the battery (yes, official SE OEM battery) got fully discharged when I was unable to get to a power source on Saturday night, and since then, the battery will not take a charge. Worse, AT&T says they have no replacement batteries in stock, their warranty department found none in any of the AT&T online stores, and when they contacted SE for me, SE offered to send a replacement...in 5-7 business days! So, for now, I have a (fairly lightweight) brick after owning the device for a mere 34 days (4 days, by the way, after I could send it back to AT&T with a big middle finger for them to shove up their noses).
Ugh.
Does the X10a any key combinations that would allow the device to "reset" the battery memory?

Strange battery problem.. Red light of no death?

I was late this morning after the alarm didn't go off on my nexus 4.
Tried to turn on the phone.... Nothing.
Then a red light started to flash. I plugged it in and 30seconds or so later it started charging from empty.
Strange because the phone was fully charged the night before! The phone turned on and I went to battery setting to find the battery has jumped down to 0% from about 70%.
Wtf is going on?
Exactly the same happened to me once (see here) — no idea the actual reason, but if it only happens once, it may just be the battery is recalibrating itself for the first time or something.
All seems normal now but very strange.
I'm not hat happy about this phone.
I had a T-Mobile my touch 3g slide and it did that to me the week I got it I was so scared I drop e right to the T-Mobile store because at first I plugged it in and it did nothing no lights no charging g so I wait like 10mins and nothing so I bring it to the store And the guy plugs it in and it charges right away and I was like lol :what:

Phone Dead (even more than a brick)

(fixed)I let my phone die because I wasn't near a charger. Now my phone is completely dead. I try to charge and nothing happens. It won't boot with lit black screen....nothing. It's like having the battery taken out.....
any known fix?
edit: (fixed) I waited and nothing happened so a bit after that I held the power button for 40 seconds then unplugged the charge and while still holding the power button plugged it back and the red/orange light came on. I then let it charge for a bit until the light turned off then I powered it on and worked. I experienced the problem once before but it did the red/orange light problem. It had never fully died like that before which freaked me out.
let it charge for atleast 30 minutes

nothing so far :/
i've had the same problem before.. the best method for make sure that n4 works again is simple, just dissasembly the back case and replace batery connector port and replace it back.
just follow Nexus 4 Teardown from iFixit.com
just remove the battery connector port. you don't need to remove all the battery.

1) Check your USB cable and adapter.
2) Use another charger.
3) Use another wall socket.
4) Use a combination of options 1-3 before you determine your phone a lemon.

Solid red LED when plugged in, device unresponsive

Last night, the battery of my N4 was getting really low, so I plugged it in. I noticed it was not charging when I plugged it in. It ended up dying completely on me. I plugged it in again later that night, and the LED started flashing red. I unplugged it and replugged it a few times, and now when I plug it in there is a solid red LED and the device is totally unresponsive. I let it sit on the charger all night and it made no difference. I was totally stock, no root, no kernel, bootloader was even still locked.
Am I going to have to RMA? I'm a college student and don't exactly have $300 sitting in my account at the moment..
Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds till the light turns off

Sorry, I should have specified. I've tried every button combo and nothing works. The phone is totally unresponsive.
Find a torx screw and reset your battery.

you really need to hold it for a while, longer than you think. im pretty sure when it happened to me i had to hold the power button for around 30 seconds after unplugging it. if theres still no dice then it might be ok to freak out lol

This solution worked for me after no amount of charging and button pressing would get me anything. Phone was stock and charging overnight when the red LED happened.

Reset the battery? What does that entail? Is there a guide for it or something?

You've got to open up the back of your Nexus 4, then unscrew the battery connector, take it out then plug it back in. There are some tutorials around the forum if you need them.

Did this, no difference. I'm a little afraid my warranty may be void now
Tried several different chargers, different cables, etc. Nothing works. Just a solid red LED.

I have this same problem, I've already taken the battery connector off reset it nothing there, removed batter tried to ,annually charge using some wires on + and - terminals still no dice.
I'm afraid my warranty is void because of those procedures. Does any one know if that's the case.
I still have solid red led when I plug it, and I had solid red led when I plugged in with no battery, does anyone know if the battery is just completely dead and needs to be replaced?
I had a similar problem on one of my Nexus 4 phones - I went to the LG service centre to get it looked at. They said the motherboard is gone and needs to get replaced. If your phone is still in warranty then you can get it done - otherwise replacing mother board is a very expensive affair - you would be better off buying a new Nexus 5.

Is it time to trash the N4
My Nexus 4 went low on battery power (3%) so I plugged it in to my usb car charger, soon after i noticed a solid red led light coming from the notification led. I left it on charge for close to 12hrs once I got home. Pulled the rear cover off and removed the battery to test the voltage... 3.8V was available. After reassembly and many different attempts at button pressing combinations there is still no life whatsoever and when I plug it into the AC charger I still get the solid RED LED light of Death...
Can anybody tell me if the mainboard is likely to be fried???

I Think My Nexus is Dead

Hi,
I have a Nexus 4 for about a year, and until the last 2 months I had no problems at all. I started noticing my phone shut down after about an hour because of my battery swelling. I replaced the battery and I had great battery life for about 2 days, after that it drained super fast.
A few times my phone shut down and a red LED started blinking, I fixed it thanks to a thread in this forum.
But now, I had 100% battery and it turned town. I tried to start the phone but nothing happened. Connected the charger and pressed the power button a long time until a red LED showed but for a long time.
The blinking LED didn't worry me because I knew my battery drained and it fixed but now the battery is full, the LED lasts for long time and no matter what I do, nothing turns on the phone.
I don't know what to do and I'm really close to throw it away.
Please help.

I've sent it to a lab and they said my voltage component of the motherboard has gone and they charge me for 100$. Is it possible?

Well, you can find new logic boards over 100$ on eBay, but with the replacement fees and the cost of a new logic board, the price seems reasonable...
