Hey everyone! I'm breathing some life back into my wife's old Nexus 4 since my N6 devours battery with my heavy usage, this time with a new life as a cycle computer
So far so good with a slightly modified Chroma, hells-core kernel, and tasker setting airplane mode on (then turning bluetooth and wifi back on), but I'm wondering if someone knows of a rom that might be a better fit. I plan on picking up a new external GPS receiver (currently the Garmin GLO is my choice despite Garmin annoying me as a company lately), so I would like a rom that lets me change the GPS source without having to fake it. Here is the list:
Based on Lollipop
Supports external GPS, preferably native
Works well with minimal GAPPS (currently using tk pico)
Rock solid bluetooth, I use several BT LE sensors
Disable cellular completely (I'll use the same tasker/airplane mode/bt on method if needed, but I'd love to not have the 'No SIM' indicator)
Lightweight - themes, live wallpapers, and other style elements are not needed. Same for sms, camera, browser, email, calculator.... you get the point. I can always add from Play if I need to add something.
Pie controls are a plus, but not necessary
I'm currently considering SlimLP, Minimal OS, Euphoria OS, or just trimming up CM. Interested in any recommendations!

Hi, I'm about to use Sports Tracker for running so I need a ROM (preferably SD ROM) where GPS works perfectly.
I prefer some SD build (I don't care if it lacks features or if its an older Android version) so I can keep using my NAND ROM with all functionality that I need for everyday use.
I have no problem to find ROMs where GPS 'should' work, but in the comments I find a lot of comments from people who still have problems with GPS (not getting a fix, hot reboots, ...).
If anyone uses their HD2 for running/walking/cycling... and the trackpoint info is good (so no sudden GPS signal drops or other glitches which can cause some funny top speeds) then please tell me what ROM you use.
Any other tips and tricks for having a great GPS reception on the HD2 are welcome. Thanks.
Hi Everyone,
Now that I have a shiny new HTC One X I am looking to repurpose my much loved HTC HD2. I think this will be the case for many people here so would like some ideas on how to best use my old HD2
I would like to run it as a music player/tablet much like an android based ipod touch or android tablet where there is no phone functionality or sim required only wifi connectivity.
Does anyone know of a ROM suited to this at all?
Currently without a valid sim and network I am unable to download apps from the play store.
Really it probably needs to be a rom based on a tablet i think....
Any ideas much appreciated.
I haven't tried this before, but you might give it a shot.
Just turn airplane mode on and use Market Enabler to stimulate a simcard.
If I decided to keep my HD2 after getting a new phone, I'd flash the lightest WM6.5 ROM I could find, probably one without Sense/GUI, and make it launch iGO on boot.
Unfortunately, WM6.5 iGO8 is still the best navigation piece of software, and with pinch-to-zoom hacks it works perfectly on HD2.
What about gaming? If you don't want gaming, then flash a WinMo or possibly WP7 ROM, but if you do want to use gaming as well then CM9/AOKP with HWA is definitely the way to go. Sense has the best music player app though, so maybe a GB Sense build would be good (I think one of them actually has HWA enabled too).
I going to go for keeping android on there i think.
I've set it up with a tune in radio widget which I can keep in synch with my phone and tablet.
Turning airplane mode on then the wifi back on sorts my network issues just fine too.
Market enabler works a treat to for O2 UK.
Now I just need to find a docking station for it so that it can sit happily alongside my stereo.
Cheers.
you could give SENSe ROM + Beats a try
music does sound a little better but that can be done also with other ROMS + enhancements apps.
Hi I have searched for answers but am stumped now.
I am using Google Play Edition 06-08-2014 by Danvdh and I love the rom but when using the phone in my 2011 Mercedes Benz the phone was randomly rebooting on the 4.4.2 rom.
After updating to 4.4.3 rom the bluetooth connection drops out sometimes when trying to make or receive a call, it eventually reconnects but it is very frustrating. I am even considering moving back to my iphone if I can't sort this one out.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
The first paragraph of the rom you are using:
This is the latest build for the I9505-G Google Edition S4 official from Google/Samsung, I have made quite a few optimizations to the ROM and added the tools necessary to give it the features (100% working features that is) of an AOSP ROM, Google edition does not use open source proprietary which mean's Bluetooth, and most importantly the camera will work way better out of the box since Samsung builds this ROM (Full HDR support, 1080p video recording, no green lines on the front cam).
I don't think there is much you can do. Maybe a different kernel would work, but I doubt it.
If you want working bluetooth you should flash an TW based rom.
Hi there,
I have a use case which I haven't found a perfect Android App or solution that can handle it perfectly. I'm currently looking at possibly using Tasker, but since it doesn't offer trial/lite version so I can't tell for sure if it would work or not.
Here is my use case and some of its characteristics (and limitations):
1. Normally when I'm at home, I want my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 3, running Android 5.0 Lollipop) to automatically:
Turn ON Wi-Fi
Turn OFF GPS (location) - to save battery
Turn OFF Bluetooth - to save batter
2. When I'm driving, I hope my Android phone can automatically detect that I'm driving (moving over 10 MPG+), and will automatically:
Turn OFF Wi-Fi (so that it won't keep searching for Wi-Fi signal)
Turn ON GPS (location) so that I can use Google Map or Waze
Turn ON Bluetooth so that it would automatically connect to my car stereo
3. When I'm at work (M-F) or "indoor", I want my phone to automatically:
Turn ON Wi-Fi
Turn OFF GPS (location)
Turn OFF Bluetooth
I have tried several Android apps, but none of them can do this perfectly. "Geo-location" or "time-based" triggers would not work well (based on my current testing). I also tried to use NFC Tools, but unfortunately since I have a thick case for my Note3, so the NFC tags did not work. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi,
Tasker should do this job pretty well.
Where I would not afraid of battery drain when GPS is on. When no app uses GPS, it is switched off.
My wifi, bt and GPS is switched on all-time and with my new battery I have perfect battery life...
Cheers big

Being not an Android geek, I'm a bit lost with all the ROM options.
I have a S4 (i9505) which i want to use as navigator and music player.
The S4 will never see a SIM again, I have TomTom (for off-line navigation) and i'll use the WiFi of my main phone if i'll need to use Waze for live traffic navigation.
I'll use it mostly on my motorcycle, so i'll need a good, reliable ROM (crashes/reboot are really annoying when you have to stop, remove the gloves, remove the anti-rain cover just to push a "ok" or to restart your apps). Also a ROM with good GPS handling (seems that some ROMS are better than other) and a good Bluetooth handling (i have a headset in my helmet, and the car stereo, all audio from any source should go out thru the bluetooth pairing).
Voice commands to use it "hands free" and "big buttons" (if there's any ROM that allows that) are also welcome.
Lastly, long battery life would be nice, as on my bike I don't like to have wires going around the handlebar, so for "short" travels i'd avoid to plug the charger (how much "short" is will depends on the S$ battery duration).
I'll never make a call with it, never browse the web, never play a game and - if i can- never make any account on it (other than Waze).
[ROM]【4.4.4】Google Play Edition【JFLTE-GPE】 - 28-01-2018 seems a good candidate, but as i said i don't know other Android versions (my main phone is a stock S3 Neo, lol) so i can't really judge.
What are your suggestions?
Thanks
