I searched for a camera fix for the HD camera with no success. Does anyone know if there's going to be a fix in the near future? I'm sure that ya'll have the same problem that I do. Camera takes pictures that look old & rustic. Brownish tint to them & not very sharp for a 5 MP camera. I have adjusted all the settings for light & junk but nothing fixes it. As far as I'm concerned, it should take pictures IDENTICAL to a normal 5 MP digital camera. I can promise you that it's not doing that. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

Why should it take pictures identical to a 5MP camera. The lens on the front is going to be vastly different, the sensor maybe 5MP, but what is the spacing on the sensor pixels? The closer together, the noisier the image. Colour balance will be down to the sensor too.
Regards
I'm not talking about the front camera. The normal camera on the back. I understand about the pixel thing, but it still shouldn't be so brownish, right? The pictures look like an old Polaroid picture. You know, the one's that spit the picture out as soon as you took it. Old, brown & nasty looking.
My pictures come out fine...
Hmmmmmmm...................... I'll just keep playing with it.

I'm not being flippant, but is it possible you might have a dirty lens?
Lol, that was the first thing I tried. Cleaned both sides of the back cover & cleaned the lens on the camera. Good idea, though.
The "5mp" doesn't really mean much, as stated earlier, if the sensor and lens are poor quality. As far as I know, HTC haven't released a phone with a reasonable quality camera, yet.
I bounce between different smart-phones (just coming back to WM now, after a year with S60). I can say that many of the S60 devices (in particular the Nokia N95, but also the N82 with Xenon flash) have very good cameras, being similar to low-end digital cameras in daylight. They lack optical zoom and tend to over-compress images, but have good quality lenses.
imho hd camera is excelent
pictures look old & rustic only if you make them inside house without using the artificial light setting, and this is also a general rule, not specific to HD.
Never seen a good phone camera yet, including the latest 8mpixel ones. They're all terrible.
Never
This camera will NEVER take pictures anywhere near what real cameras do. The photo sites are so tiny, they are smaller then the length of waive of light. Therefore noise, lack of dynamic width, etc. No patch will ever fix that. Sorry
open back cover , clean the lens , you will see a huge difference in quality

Not that I'm doubting you or anything but you do realize that the back cover only has a hole through to the lens?
You might try setting the brightness higher:
If you touch the small rectangle near the bottom right side of the screen (when holding landscape)
Then select the gear symbol, then select brightness from the menu and hit the "+" until it looks better that will remove most of the darkness.
The camera is a plain disappointment. In the time the camera autofocusses, I could have bought a Sony Ericsson C905's, create a good looking photo (with xenon flash) and upload it to imageshack.
If 'your object' makes the slightest move, your photo will be blurry . This is also the case when you attempt to make a photo of someone that isn't aware he or she has to be waiting for the autofocus lag. Head moves >>> blurry pic.
iPhone camera shots are way better quality, don't ask me why. Overall my Touch HD scores 8/10, where atleast 1 full point is taken up by the camera
and it's better don't speak about the very laggy video recording

Too many megapixels on a tiny sensor = major noise problem = blurring from denoise.
Even 2mpixels is too much for sensors this size, but people buy on marketing numbers of megapixels, not quality. You can just imagine the whining that would occur if the Touch HD came out with 1.3mpxiels, even though it would produce better pictures.

hehe, thats true.
mpixels dont count as much as the general public belives. the more mpix. the higher rezolution you can print the picture in. but for ordinary photos, 1.3 mpix would be enough, as long as the optics is good.
Personally, I rarely use a phone camera.
I use either my Olympus 720SW or Canon EOS.
the camera sucks **** compared to the n95 and the video recording is horrid. i know it's not meant to be as good as a dedicated camera but this is pretty bad given the price of the device.
i concur with mach03, move the camera a slight bit and eveyrthing gets blurred. one way i've semi gotten aorund this is to unlock the burst functiona nd take a sequence of pics and hope one or two coems out alright, not the most economic way to do it though...
i would ahve thought that maybe there's a way to tweak the camera to stop the blurring or even affect how much light is picked up by the lens which should also help with clarity

A silly idea, but seriously, did you check if maybe, just maybe, you left the "sepia" effect turned on???
I have the Nexus One Running on Cyanogen 5.0.4.1 and I love it
but the camera is giving me some problems,
For some reason I always have verticals lines on my photos and
it makes to photos look very bad! I've attached a photo so you can see
on what i am talking about.
I've tried to use different settings for the camera (2-3-5 mega pixel combined
with Normal - Fine - SuperFine quality) and it maybe helped a little but
still not very good.
Is there anything that can be done to solve this BIG issue?
I mean, Rom with a fix, some configurations I did not tried or there's nothing
to do - the camera is not great?
It was very surprising for me cause the developers of the phone
and camera module never checked this? the photos look really really bad.
Will appreciate some help....
Thanks,
Guy.
it's normal for camera phone to have the lines when the condition is not enough light...
Well, not really when a device also has a flash.
My photos are crisp although it's 3MP without flash...
in short...don't expect too much from a camera phone then it will be alright.
for me it's normal because the features exist in every single camera phones (nokia models) i've owned when taken picture in poor light condition.
did it have flash when you took those photos?
if not, did you try to enable the flash so it would always flash?
i don't have lines, but the flash not always goes off when it should on automatic (with pocket cams too) but usually the pics still worked out fine
did you try fx camera?
Flash on will improve the picture... but not necessarily good enuf... for good low light photos, you need to be able to play with the camera exposure settings which most phones don't have... else, you an external light source
I had once a digital camera with the same effect in the photos.
It was a problem in the CCD sensor. It had to be repaired.
Well try and wiping the phone or Nand restoring to a back up and check if the problem still is there.
maybe its a defective camera? i dont have an issue with the camera on my nexus and im running cm 5.0.4. i think it takes wonderful photos. here are a few

Ahh, but the phone is horizontal, therefore the lines are vertical in relation to the phone

guy234 curious. does this happen with all of your pictures? or ones taken inside?
If its just inside, is the lighting fluorescent? Fluorescent lighting can cause these types of lines in photographs.

I am more concerned with the pink blob in the middle of your picture than the vertical lines LOL That pink blob is so annoying really wish they would fix this. It happens to everyone when taking pictures with a white background. Look at the wall, see how it is pink in the middle? That is a major problem with the camera on this phone for me.

oh snap, lol, oops
It looks like you have some kind of clear cover over your camera lens. Do you have some kind of case on your phone?
Megapixel does not declare quality. Megapixel is a rating of picture size so changing the MP isn't going to make a difference. Try cleaning the camera lens with a Q-tip dabbed with rubbing alcohol.
I have never seen that on my pictures so it's not normal.
Also remember to post general questions in the right place.
Here are some of my pics

Inside:
just tested out the front facing camera and was really surprised with the quality, or lack there of. My skin looks almost airbrushed and the photos look soft and somewhat grainy. Honestly the front cam on my gs4 has significantly more detail(compared them side-by-side under the same conditions). Does anyone else see the front cam this way or is there something up with mine? Maybe it's intentional to make people's faces look airbrushed? If so I'm not a fan :/
You need to turn off the "Beauty Face" option.
Oh wow. Now I feel like a noob. Thanks!
User error.
There's also a rear camera selfie mode that works ok (no flash though?). Also be sure to take the plastic off the rear camera. I could barely tell it was there so i would understand if people missed it.
Off topic
anyone know how to turn off burst shot ? cant find it anywhere
grainy front facing camera and other things
I just got a brand new Galaxy Note 4 and my front facing camera is super grainy and blurry and its missing a ton of the cool settings the note 4 is famous for. I just found out that its because the phone is a really good Chinese knock off! It explains a lot of the major issues ive been having lately like the terrible lag,the crashing of the browser at every use, motion and gesture settings cant be activated and so many other things like it wont download certain apps or wont connect to certain networks. Just thought id let anyone know who has been having similar issues.
I know the S7 has a wide angle camera, and this is the result of long / narrow faces.
Or this is how it appears on mine.
Wondering if anyone has stumbled across any mods or anything?
I don't normally do selfies, but I just tried and wow!
Someone suggested taking the picture at arm length and cropping the picture, while this works, its not a solution for native apps that use the camera.
I.e. Snap chat etc.
Had anyone has the same experience and had any solutions or luck?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
I asked myself the same question. Its cool to get more of the background on the picture, but for little bit closer takes it looks just stretched and unreal.
haha, well i have a rather round face.
But when i take a selfie using this camers, It looks like i have to eat for a few months. LOL!
Might work well for woman Samsung, But am not keen on looking as skinny as possible
Are you guys also expierencing with the front camera makes your face out of focus. Example if i take pictures with front camera my eyebrows, nose and beard is all blury and out of focus?
This kind of problem need more attention because ive heard that a lot of s7 and s7 edge users with this problem. Yet there is no update to fix this.

As another user suggested, Sounds like filters.
Samsung added a few, If enabled can remove wrinkles and marks from your face.
At the cost of looking plastic........ lol
Yes it may be a software fault, eventhough beauty mode is off it's still on somehow.
I know someone who complained it and they changed the camera, the fault was still present.
And my brother got fed up that this issue wouldn't get fixed so he ended up selling his s7 edge.
Could you guys try a selfie and look in the details of your eyebrows look how out of focus and blury it is, and details around hair, beard is oversaturated making the picture look distorted and poor.

I have only ever taken a couple of selfies.
TBH i hate looking at my own pics especially on the S7 edge lol!!!
i'm wondering about your z1's capture quality. I bought an old z1 c6902 and my phone's camera quality is very bad, even on stock rom. In low light condition, it's very noisy and it's hard to see when i capture a document in bright light. There's a problem with the flash, too. I replaced the glass in front of the camera on the back of my phone, and then when i use the flash to take photo, it's blurred with white halo in the bottom of the picture. Can you show the picture taken by your phone (nougat rom) for me so i can compare with my phone. I think it's time to replace the camera. Thank you and sorry for my bad English
(I will attach the pictures later)

I have the same problems as you, but I occasionally visit a Smartphones shop to wipe the camera lens for me and it's better now, BTW I have an Old C6902 changed battery and screen before.
Have you tried third-party camera apps like Open Camera, Snapchat Camera? You might get better quailty or you can edit the pics for a less noise or blur (pixlr does the job for me).
Or you can try editing manual stock camera settings to your preference instead of Auto you might get the quality you look for.
and BTW It's time for a new smartphone if you ask me, there are smartphones with better camera quality as you know are worth saving money for, I'm saving for Sony's upcoming flagship myself, If not then I'll go for the new upcoming compat or Xa2 been itching to try one since a while ago, other reasons I'm looking for a new phone is I'm a gamer and I use multitasking heavily.

yeah thanks, im planning to buy a new one, but not until July or later.
Just out of curiosity, do you live in a hot and humid country? As the seals have slightly degraded on my phone, whenever I go to a hot and humid country I get a small amount of condensation form on the inside of the camera lens after a few days which makes my pictures look very much like the ones you have shown. What I have to do is open up the flaps and dry out the inside of the phone with a hairdryer which does the trick for a few days. Just a possibility that it may be condensation causing this on your phone also!?

If you're on RR rom final build the camera is bad on there, you either try LineageOS camera or Carbon's they're good and better, they got updated too apparently.
