Steps For Rooting Xperia Z1 C6902/C6903 14.5.A.0.242 Firmware
1. Downgrade to .108 / .157 Firmware and Root It
If you have already updated your smartphone to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, then you have to downgrade your device to KitKat OS and Root it.
Use this guide to Install .108 firmware.
Root using this guide.
Now Install XZ Dual Recovery.
Now phone is rooted, USB Debugging must be enabled.
Download latest installer for Xperia Z1 from here. (Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.10-RELEASE.installer.zip)
Connect phone to PC using OEM date cable and run install.bat.
It will install the custom recovery.
Now work here is done. Lets move on to next step.
2. Root and Install Recovery on Z1 C6902/C6903 5.0.2 Lollipop Firmware
Custom recovery was installed in the first step.
The pre-rooted firmware was created and copied to phone in next step.
Now you have to turn off phone.
Turn it on again and press volume up or down repeatedly to enter custom recovery.
Click on install and locate the folder where you placed the flashable zip earlier.
Tap on it and install it.
Now reboot the phone.
If phone is still connected to PC via USB cable, disconnect it.
Now go back to the .242 ftf you downloaded in second step and copy it to /flashtool/fimrwares
Open flashtool and click on lightning icon in the top left.
Click on it and click on flashmode.
Select the .242 firmware.
In the right bar, in the exclude options, exclude System only. It means that untick System only there. Leave every other options as it is (See the Picture).
While flashtool prepares the software for flashing, turn off your phone.
Keep the volume down button pressed and connect it to PC via USB cable.
The button must be pressed during it.
The phone will enter flashmode.
Flashtool will automatically detect it and start flashing.
After flashing phone will reboot and you will be done...
thanks to 'Hayder Ameen'.....

I think this guide for Unlockbootloader only.
You just copied and pasted the text from this page:
http://techbeasts.com/2015/04/14/root-xperia-z1-c6902c6903-14-5-a-0-242-5-0-2-lollipop-with-dual-recovery
And you did that without all the instructions, without any links to the mentioned guides and without proof-reading it to make sure it made any sense...
Seriously...

Appreciate your work!!!
I downloaded the mega link in the first post, but it was not SG customized, C6903_14.5.A.0.242_HK.ftf. thank for advice.

Clean install of a ftf is better than Flashing a Pre-Rooted zip. I flashed a Lp Pre-Rooted zip and face some problem... Specially battery drainage issue. So I cleaned installed the LP ftf. And rooted it afterwards... My battery is a beast now
Requirements
1: King Root http://https://userscloud.com/ke35zvpes88k
2: XZDualRecovery 2.8.15-RELEASE.installer.zip http://nut.xperia-files.com/
3: BETA-SuperSU-v2.49.zip http://https://userscloud.com/7hs0w0d9l46h
(SuperSU-v2.46 will give you binary update error) (place this zip in your internal memory/Sdcard
Steps
1: Flash your latest ftf of LP 5.0.2 via flashtool to start a clean install. IF You are already on LP, ignore step 1.
2: Install King Root Apk and Run it. Click on root. Wait until it says 100%. It should be 100%. U rooted your mobile successfully. Don't restart your mobile.
3: Place XZDualRecovery 2.8.15intsaller.zip in any folder of your PC and extract it.
4: Connect your mobile to your computer with Debugging mode enabled.
5: Open XZDualRecovery folder and Click on Install.bat. A command window will be opend. Choose/Type 2 (root with SuperUser) and pres enter. Follow the instructions... Done... XZDualRecovery is installed
6: Boot in to recovery and Install BETA-SuperSU-v2.49.zip. Restart your mobile... You have a working SuperSu without any binary update problem.
7: Delete KingUser App Manualy by Going into /system/app/kinguser.apk. Or u can delete it by some system app remover application. It is necessary to delete King User App because It may be cause conflict with SuperSu.
All Done.....
Do you have any screenshots to prove battery drain can be solved by flashing an ftf and then rooting it? If so I will try it.

Clean install of an ftf makes no difference to my phone. Battery drain makes me mad…
I flashed a pre-rooted ROM, no problem at all and no battery drain.
Battery life averaged at 2 days with 5-6 hr SOT.
Ftf vs pre-rooted zip makes no difference at all. I've tried both ways and there is absolutely no difference at all.

Step-by-Step EASY ROOT whit DUALRECOVERY in your Lollipop 14.5.A.0.270
This was tested in my Z1C whit unlocked bootloader running stock 14.5.A.0.270, if you chose to try it in a locked bootloader, do it at your how risk!
Before starting, read the post to the end to see if you can manage to do this steps by your self!
This isn't for everyone, and it my not work on everyone, but if it helps you great... If not try another solution. THIS IS THE SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME!
WARNING: "I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, and any kind of problems in your little life of yours. YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you."
1. Download Z1C-lockeddualrecovery2.8.18-RELEASE.installer.zip from "[Z1 Compact][TWRP][PhilZ Touch][CWM] XZDualRecovery" or go to NUT link site that you can find here.
Unzipped to your computer... and save-it for later.
2. Download [BETA][2015.04.28] SuperSU v2.49, from Chainfire from here, and put it on your Internal Storage.
3. Download the attached "KingRoot replacement.zip" and place the mrw folder in you internal storage.
4. Uninstall or deactivate any boot your antivirus in your computer (for step 9) and in your device.
5. Download and Install Terminal Emulator app from the PlayStore.
6. Download and Install the attached version of KingRoot (that you can find in this post). This version was the only one that I tried that root 14.5.A.0.270 Rom (DO NOT REBOOT YOUR DEVICE)
7. Open Terminal emulator and type :
"Su"
Allow root permission
Type:
"sh /sdcard/mrw/root.sh"
Update su binary normal, but in the end DO NOT REBOOT YOUR DEVICE
8. Go to Settings and turn USB Debugging on... (If you dont now how to do this... Go to Settings-About phone-click seven times in "build number"-go back-"developer option"- turn it on!!!)
9. Go to your computer and connect your phone.
unzip the file that you download it in Step 1, and press install.
Chose the SuperSu Option
When asked, allow debugging in your phone and also root access.
10. In the end of the the installation process THE PHONE WILL REEBOT and in the star sony screen, press multiple times the volume down to enter TWRP recovery.
Now install the SuperSU v2.49 Beta zip file that you downloaded in step 2.
11. Reboot your device and now you have permanent root and dual recovery... It was not so hard, was it???
Give Thanks to NUT and Chainfire, that without their work, this was not possible.
Reserved:
A word of advice.
If your device gets stuck or die, reinstall your firmware whit the original sony flash tool, that you can find and download in sony's support site.
You should also mention that the Kingroot app may share Your phone's unique information such as IMEI with some servers. Also, in step 7 You assume the phone is rooted, but till step 6 all that is done is downloading and installing the app, nothing is done by opening the app, which might confuse some users.
Since all other thing i wrote here were deleted i will delete this also.

its: "sh /sdcard/mrw/root.sh"
you must leave a space between sh and /
Another thins... this is my solution that i decided to share... If you don't like it, don't try it or don't use it... it works for me.
If it helps anyone, great!
Is also possible that doesn't work for everyone... so... like it says in the OP... do it at your own risk.
Criticize is easy... posting solutions is harder!

You can follow guide from My signature. It is tried and tested on locked bootloader.
KingRoot.apk worked on my Z1C with .270 kernel, with locked bootloader. Should work on .283 as well. Followed a different tutorial though, probably taken from this one. Dunno which from which

Hi,
I've got stuck in the step 9. I have USB debugging enabled in my phone, but adb is not seeing my device and the script is waiting with for it:
Code:

==============================================
1. Installation on ROM rooted with SuperSU
2. Installation on ROM rooted with SuperUser
3. Installation on unrooted ROM using the TowelRoot method
4. Install ADB drivers to windows
5. Exit
Please choose install action.
[1,2,3,4,5]?1
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
=============================================
Waiting for Device, connect USB cable now...
=============================================
adb devices
List of devices attached
In step 7, you wrote to now reboot the phone, which I assume could solve my issue (reboot into fastboot mode).
Do you have any solution for this?
Thanks a lot,
Michal.
EDIT:
I've solved this problem when I changed the Sony Xperia Z1 driver to not MTP but USB composite -> then ADB driver installed as well.
How to change this: Device Manager->Portable Devices-> Z1->Update Driver->Browse my Computer->Let me pick from.. -> Change to USB composite.
Now I have dual recovery with rooted phone - thanks a lot!
Michal.
Been using Redmi Note 2 for a couple of month. Tested it with CWM and TWRP and rooting, it just went flawlessly. It has been 3 weeks I got hold of the Redmi Note 2 Prime, and flashing TWRP and CWM, hence not able to root it. Currently using MIUI Stable ROM (HMNote2Global_V7.0.12.0.LHMMICI) which is has not root access to it. Tried the Beta Dev Rom from the download page is no help, since the newer Dev ROM has it Root access removed. Tried WinDroid Toolkit, ADB and fastboot, they all showed the flashing was successful to the point of having SuperSU switch user, yet I still see the Mi Recovery instead of TWRP, and check rooting with Root Checker, it just return a "Root access is not properly installed". Is there an effective method to flash TWRP or CWM and do rooting for Redmi Note 2 PRIME?
Install the developer ROM from xiaomi.eu.
The developer roms have untegrated root. Only the global developer rom from en.miui.com hasn't got it.
~ Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime ~
I have done that on my Redmi Note 2 with a few month old Dev ROM, it is fine. Is there an alternative when we are using Global ROM (no root privilege)?
I think you can switch to dev Rom, install twrp, switch back to stable and install e.g. supersu

If it helps for anyone, Flashing custom recovery (TWRP) and flashing super SU 2.46 from chainfire roots the device perfectly. I ve used it on both 16gb and 32gb. no issue at all
