Don't know about thread but I am sure a dev can create a patch for you guys once we get root of course. Probably gonna need to sacrifice for testing unless a dev picks up your variant.

I am wondering the same thing, though I will be making ROMs for our varient of the G4......Also if anyone needs testing done on the US991 I would be more than happy to be the guinea pig (I picked up multiple G4's just for this purpose, lol).

You don't get much attention because US Cellular is a MUCH smaller company than Verizon and AT&T.
If it makes you feel better, the Verizon and AT&T version also don't have published root yet
What's the command to back up the system to the internal storage? I wanna root the 10A

EDIT:
All done!
Tis is now the [Discussion] US Cellular us991 thread:good:
Getting delivery of US991 tuesday. Curious whether to stay on Lollipop or upgrade to Marshmallow? Anyone get MM update? How is it?
FYI. I wanted to run MM but couldn't get the update. Called US cellular and they said they pulled the 20b update due to a lot of reports of boot loops. No eta on when they will begin to push it out again. Take it for what it's worth.
For Anyone Who Bought an Unlocked US991!
Just a heads up for anyone purchasing an unlocked US991, the firmwares are different than the US Cellular US991's. I bought one the other day from Best Buy (then returned), and it came on 10A with a kernel date of Sep 25, which is far later than the Jun 1 kernel date of 10C for branded US991s. As far as rooting goes, you'll have to manually inject root into your system image, outlined here in step 2. The 10A the unlocked version comes with is not the same as the US Cellular US991 10A firmware. There is no KDZ available for this device/firmware yet, so be very careful about rooting.
The unlocked US991 is fully compatible with US Cellular KDZs. So that leaves the option to flash the branded US991 10C via KDZ, then root using a prerooted system image. I would not recommend doing this because it will brand your phone to US Cellular, and probably will not allow OTAs because of the model mismatch. You will be stuck on 10C until there's a KDZ released for newer firmwares. I flashed my phone to US Cellular's 10C, and I obviously could not go back to my original firmware. I have another one on order, and I'll post a prerooted system image ASAP.

Thank you for the post, this was very helpful in understanding why I couldn't update my firmware from 10A, no matter what I tried. I even thought of ordering a US cellular SIM card at one point, in the hopes of getting my IMEI registered with US cellular to enable OTA updates. Now I'm getting a feeling that would be a futile attempt, as this US991 unlocked model isn't the same as the locked model. (i.e., no OTA update whatsoever with unlocked model)
A question I had was, when you flashed to 10C, I would have assumed that would allow you to get MM update. But I guess it didn't work? My guess was either OTA or LG mobile support tool would have recognized the 10C as the US cellular version, and just pushed through the MM update...

That's very interesting, I thought I was in the same boat. I have a US991 that I got off ebay which I assumed to be the same as the ones at Best Buy or B&H. Mine has the US99110C firmware, so maybe that means it is a US Cellular model? There's actually nothing on the phone that says US Cellular - no branding or bloatware. I've tried getting information from US Cellular and from LG, and the official word from LG is that they don't sell unlocked phones unless they are a Nexus, so that led me to believe that the ones retailers are selling are really US Cellular models (maybe overstock). It's also clear that the people at LG who answer customer questions don't know anything about the unlocked phones being sold.
Assuming that mine is a US Cellular phone, it should receive the update, which it hasn't. That could be due to the previous post that USC has pulled it due to issues, but when I've spoken to them, they didn't know anything about it. Is there a web source for information about the update on USC or a forum? There is a recurring theme with tech support - the people who answer are just there to solve simple user problems, not to troubleshoot real issues.
I've tried getting my phone connected via LG Bridge, but Bridge doesn't see that my phone is connected (it is). When I try the Mobile Support Tool, it sees the phone, but says it's up to date. I'd love to hear from anyone who actually gets one of these phones updated to Marshmallow. I also tried putting a USC sim card in the phone, to no avail.
Does anyone know if it's possible to put the H815 firmware on one of these phones? Those seem to be receiving lots of updates.
Really LG? No support?
I contacted LG US about the issue with US991 not connecting to LG Bridge. Here's the response I got:
Thank you for contacting LG Mobile Communications and for the additional details you have provided.
I have made note of the information with the currently open ticket so that this may also be looked into. I will check on this ticket as well personally and as soon as I get updates, I will send you an email immediately. In other words, we don't care, get lost. This was more than 2 weeks ago.
So the way I see it we have two options in the US: the US991 which they do not provide updates for but (hopefully) has a US warranty or the H815 which they do not warranty but you can get updates for.
Is LG US trying to compete with Comcast for the worst support in the US?

I couldn't even OTA to 10D, which was my original intent of upgrading to 10C. However, the 10A we have is probably at 10D's patch level (build date of Sep 15), so I wouldn't worry about getting updates unless you're itching for Marshmallow. Given the experience I had with Marshmallow on the Moto X Pure I had for a week before getting my G4, I'm totally fine with Lollipop for the time being. In addition to Doze not really being effective (still had major Android OS and oddly Cell Standby drain), I had a lot of backwards compatibility issues because of the new permissions model. I also hate that they took out the option to disable interruptions until the next alarm after the release of MM. Some weird OTA Google thing removed the feature a while after 6.0 came out, and only 6.0.1 has it now.

H815 firmwares would definitely brick your phone, but you can flash USC KDZs with no problem. As far as you being on 10C, what's your kernel build date (shows in the *#*#244773825625#*#* secret menu)? My firmware is 10A, but I'm pretty sure it's at the same patch level as at least 10C, possibly 10D, since the kernel date is Sep 15, and 10C's was Jun 1.

I'm coming from a Nexus 5 which, of course, has all the updates. I had no trouble with MM. I can't say it made a huge positive difference either (my battery still dropped quickly but 2 years old), but for security reasons, I always want updates. I'm very skeptical about this phone getting the monthly updates that Google is pushing out, I'll consider that better next time I buy. Got duped by the stores calling this unlocked, though LG clearly doesn't want to support it themselves referring me to the carrier when I ask. I will keep pestering them to fix Bridge and hopefully provide the USC update.

That's too bad. I would expect LG to make the phones as similar as possible which is easier on the engineering and parts supply. I'm thinking this phone might be identical to the Sprint model, saw some posts about mix ups, not sure if it ever worked. At least on that one they get the radio.
Thanks for that tip about the hidden menu:

Android Marshmallow 6.0 20C for the US Cellular US991 is out now. This is an update from 10D.
You can install 20C on any US991 regardless of current version. 20C is specifically for US Cellular users... not the unlocked US991 users with the unbranded model on 10A. Though it would work on those devices.. the phone would have some things set to US Cellular rather than the unlocked version it is now.
If you don't already have LG Bridge you can grab it here - www.lg.com/us/support/product-help/CT10000025-1438110404543-preinstall-apps

Lucky you!
LG Bridge doesn't recognize my phone at all, and I've heard others say the same thing. We'd have a chance of getting the update if LG's software worked with their phones.
Can you grab the KDZ file from your upgrade? You'd make many people happy!
The US Cellular US991 is totally unlocked. I haven't seen anything on my phone that actually says US Cellular, but it does have the 10c version, which I understand is USC only. It works on all GSM networks, not sure about the CDMA folks who seem to lock out phones.

I haven't gotten an update on my unlocked V20 since January.... Any advice on how to get updates w/o flashing a new ROM?
Mines an unlocked h990ds and its on the june security patch, who knows when its gonna catch up.

Get the latest firmware for your region here then use KDZ Writer in the thread if you're rooted to update. That allows us to root our phone and stay up to date with patches and such.

You didn't say which model you have. I have the unlocked model for US market - US996. US Cellular variant has the same model name, so do not confuse the unlocked US model US996 with the US Cellular one. The US Cellular firmware will work on the unlocked US996 but has bloatware ... Here is the response I got from [email protected]:
Dear XXXXXXXXX:
This is a staff of LG Product Security Response Team(LG PSRT).
First of all, we apologize for late security patch.
LG V20 US996 has many branches, thus security patch schedules are somewhat different depending on regions and carriers.
As I know, our dedicated team said the next security patch for US996 (Unlocked/USA) will be released at December, 2017.
If your information is different from above, please let me know your country and carrier information.
Thanks.
Regards,
LG PSRT

Nope. You simply rely on a carrier (or LG themselves for the unlocked model) to push an update. Only way atm is to get the latest kdz for your device and use KDZ Writer to update if you're rooted. Or if you're not, LG UP.
US996 An update at last!
Hi!
Just received an OTA update today!
Still no wifi calling or FM Radio.
Software version: US99610n
Android Security Patch Level: November 06, 2017
Still Android 7.0
Only noticeable difference is I can no longer see the options in Wifi Calling when accessing via Quick Shortcut App. I noticed since I accessed to see if wifi calling was now available.
Btw, I'm located in Puerto Rico and with Tmobile.
Hope everyone receives it soon!
Is it possible to safely flash a us996 unlocked rom onto my ls997zvc? And will it allow me to continue to use my gsm att based sim card? I bought this phone used the other day. He said it was Verizon unlocked but turns out its this sprint model. No carrier branding anywhere. No splash screen on boot. I almost thought it was a non carrier based unlocked phone until i looked up the model number.
Bump
Buuuuuump. I bought my phone through sprint, paid it off, they keep telling me It's unlocked, but i have to factory reset every time i turn my phone off to get it to work with the other carrier sim. I've contacted them over and over and all they say is "we sent the unlock signal, that's all we can do on our end" but their signal is only working on factory reset. I really want to root this and install the unlocked firmware so i can have my phone without having to reinstall everything constantly. I mistakenly upgraded to ZVC update before having it unlocked and now I'm stuck. Any updates on an unlock eta?
Unfortunately I believe that ZVC is ARB 2 and it has the latest lafd with copy2 pulled, so that means that even once the lafsploit is finished, the LS997 will not be able to use it because you can't roll back to a firmware version that has copy2. If I am wrong, and ZVC is still ARB 1, then you can roll back to a version that has copy2.
If I can find a dump of the ZVC firmware, I can tell you for certain what ARB version it is. If no one has made a dump, you can do it yourself by grabbing the patched LG UP, and used the dump option. If you grab one of the full stock flashable zips from another model, you can see what partitions need to be included. I could just tell you, but I think people need to learn

I accidentally updated mine to zvd the other day. A brand new release. Would be very nice if you could tell me exactly how to flash the us996 firware safely. Ther3 has to be a way to unlock this damned phone. I paid 200 for it and now i am ****ed.
Please help me out. I could post a dump of the zvd firmware if i can figure it out

@me2151 Welcome back dude
If all goes as planned, we will soon be able to root any model on any ARB version. My info above about ARB 2 being an issue was incorrect (must have been on crack when I typed that post).
LG phones with unlockable bootloaders (or that have an engineering aboot / abl) will be rootable indefinitely -- a hole that can't be closed without changing their security significantly.

Please keep me informed on your progress. I really just want to do this to gsm unlock my phone for my at&t sim card. Guy sold me it saying it was unlocked already.
Do i have to root to flash us996 rom onto my phone? And does that unlock it or the root method from dirty santa exploit what uicc unlocks the phone. I read tidbits of information on this forum that say the phone is uicc unlocked after rooting and/or flashing us996 firmware, but all are supposedly only possible on zv7 or older firmware of Sprint phones.

2 years late but better than never I suppose?
No idea what my LS997 is using. Performed the dirty santa a long time ago to root, and just this morning I flashed /e/OS over Lineage to test the waters with a de-googled experience. I'm now on T-mobile magenta max plan following the merge and daily driver is a Pixel 4A 5G. Popped the SIM into the V20 running /e/OS and data works but voice and text do not. Not sure if this is a hardware, firmware, or software incompatibility.
Honestly the V20 really pissed me off with how locked down it was. I am NEVER buying a phone that is not easy to root or repair. that is 100% deal breaking for me. Pixel phones have unlockable bootloaders so not too much bull**** necessary to break from the clutches of these damn phone companies and carriers.
I'm new to the LG Ecosystem and I have a few questions.
I have an LG G6 H870 from Entel in Chile, its currently on Android 7.
1) Can I flash it to something like the OPEN EU images which are newer?
Because they're all H870's are they the exact same hardware, meaning the functionality on different H870 kdzs should work fine? The Entel doesnt even have a 2018 release yet so I don't have great confidence they will update the LG G6.
2) Does flashing a KDZ affect the boot loader?
If I unlocked the bootloader for rooting would flashing the KDZ back reset it back to locked?
3) Is it safe to flash a KDZ via a virtual machine? The LG Bridge app wont detect my phone on Mac no matter what I try (High Sierra), (adb is fine iv tried the drivers etc), however it shows up when I connect it to a Windows 7 VM.
4) Is it likely that when the official Oreo 8.1 update comes it would be better to switch to something like an OPEN EU or UK image?
Or even just flash the new 8.1 KDZ when its available?
5) If I rooted and flashed something like LineageOS, can I easily go back to any of the KDZs with the LG tool?
I noticed theres an "error link which seems to download a KDZ for resetting your phone. Does that work off some kind of internal hardware serial, meaning that if things are ever soft-bricked I could just hit that button and go back to square one no problems?
6) Anything else I should be aware of or concerned about if I want to play with flashing different KDZs or custom roms? I dont care about warranty e.g. unlocked bootloader.
7) Whats the best tool for unlocking bootloader and gaining root these days, I know theres a tonne of AIO tools and things like KingRoot. Any suggestions from other LG G6 modders?

1) If it's just an "H870" than yes, it should be fine.
2) You cannot unlock the bootloader. Only unbranded US997 and European H870 can.
3) Never tried, it should, but in this i cannot give you a certain answer.
4) 8.1? We don't know it'll be 8.1. Anyway it's always better to flash the right firmware for your region.
5) You cannot do any kind of modding on your device atm, see the 2nd answer.
6) Flashing a wrong kdz could hard brick your device, so be careful on names. For the warranty you're good to go, you cannot do any kind of modding.
7) For G6 there is no "best" tool, there is only ONE way to unlock the bootloader but it won't work on your model (as explained in the 2nd answer), other tools like KingRoot don't work at all.
Bonus answer: No, flashing an european firmware won't allow you to unlock the bootloader.
Sorry for the noob question, it's probably been asked on here, but have not been able to find a solid answer. I have a US Cellular LG G6, which by now I know bootloader can't be unlocked. But, is there any way to update to Android Oreo? Currently on Android Nougat 7.0. thanks in advance.

Yes if you use non-UScellular US997 KDZ (21B is latest) US99721b_00_0823.kdz

I have found out the hard way that there are several versions of the model US997 variant of the LG G6:
https: //lg-firmwares.c o m/lg-us997-firmwares/firmwares/
(I apologize that the forum's spam filters are preventing me from posting a working link. Just take out the spaces.)
There is a USA unlocked version, two US cellular versions, two "Brightpoint" versions (whatever that is), and an Amazon version. And they all share the same model number. This is quite confusing because with most phones, usually there is only one version per model number. If your phone is stuck on Android Nougat, chances are you're like me and you're on the USA unlocked version of this phone, not the US Cellular version. The US Cellular and Brightspot versions have all been updated to Oreo and the latest update was in September 2018.
I have no idea why LG isn't upgrading the USA unlocked version. It was very frustrating when I bought it used and found out it was still stuck on Nougat, which I was not expecting.

Just use the US997 and NOT US997U and it'll work perfectly on non-US-Cellular or US-Cellular KDZ. 21B is latest Oreo

Actually the US Unlocked version has gotten the update and it's bootloader unlockable... My phone is the US997Z which is the US Cellular version. I believe you have to be connected to their service to be able to receive the update through their towers. I went ahead a upgraded my LG G6 with the US unlocked version kdz as the @HueyT mentions above. Update went great using LG up and uppercut no set back going through the update. If you need help I would happily help you out. Because I was in the same boat as you.

It's very strange that some versions of the LG G6 "US997" are not updated to Oreo yet and other ones with this version are. But if there is anyone out there reading this, you know know there is a workaround and you can force your computer to update the firmware on your LG G6 with the official LG ROM that runs Android Oreo.
For the $254 I paid for this phone used, with a case and the original charger, I can live with a phone that I have to update manually if I won't get OTA updates for some reason. And I did not break the phone's security because I'm still able to use Google Pay and online banking.
Just bought this phone about a week ago, it is an Unlocked AT&T Model. It tells me basically that it does not need a OS Update - that it has the Latest 8.0. I am giving up on LG Support already!
Using their APK to update via USB told me that it cannot even check the Version of the OS, so definitely NO Update for this SUCKER!
Can anyone here PLEASE help me find a way to UPDATE this nice Smart Phone?
THANKS!

This is what LG's response is to me about getting my AT&T Unlocked V35 Updated fm A. 8.0:
Hi Michael, we appreciate your time in getting back to us. I will be happy to assist you today.
In response to your inquiry, for carrier unlocked phones, the only way to get it updated is, you need to have a service again with the original service provider for them to send or push the Software update to your phone. While LG has no control with the software updates for carrier unlock phones, compared to manufacture unlock phones it automatically receives the software updates that was released OTA (Over the Air).
I hope I have provided all the information and wish it has been helpful in addressing your query. It has been a pleasure to help you out to the best of my knowledge and my skills.
Should you have any other questions, please feel free and don't hesitate to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 1-800-793-8896. As this email is used for outgoing mail only, you may send file attachments, replies, any information and further inquiries over to the email section of support https://www.lg.com/us/support/email-appointment and we will do our best to assist you without you having to repeat the details of your previous message.

I heard from LG Support and they said that since it is an AT&T Unlocked Phone and not unlocked by them - I have to sign up with AT&T and noot my T-Mobile too get Updated....RATS....I just left
AT&T for better and cheaper service from T-Mobile and now I have to go back....guess I will and if/when they upgrade this NICE phone I will leave dem again!
Or as I suggested, you simply cross flash to North American Open Market (NAO) firmware via Dev Patched LGUP.
You can also try temporarily putting in an AT&T SIM card (not even activated) and that can trigger AT&T update, if left for a few hours.
But people in other countries just cross flash to NAO as they don't need AT&T firmware whatsoever.

Yes, people report AT&T SIM card will do the trick. Either prepaid or postpaid, they are both the same. Supposedly they don't have to be activated -- as long as you have AT&T firmware on your phone.
Some say a Red Pocket (AT&T MVNO) SIM card will, also. While Cricket (owned by AT&T) SIM card will not.

Called Best Buy to see IF I could pay someone there to Flash my V35, like you recommend, but they are not allowed to do things like that. Turning to Craig's List now.

Latest firmware for the V35 now (AT&T does have an early version of the Android 10 update, but kdz not released. We have to wait for a ULM kdz to be released to flash the 10 and update. Until then we're on Android 9 still) is the 04/2020 update. Sort by date on lg-firmwares.com, for device choose LMV350ULM, you want the ULM as its the unlocked carrier free version of the V35, and crossflashing the AT&T version is completely safe (I'm using an AT&T V35 in Canada on Koodo with the ULM software). In the software list choose GFI or USA (I'd recommend the USA version, unless you're on google fi).

Buy one of these AT&T SIM cards. Less than $3 with free shipping.
Leave it in overnight, see if the OTA update shows up.
Keep your T-Mobile. This is just to trigger the update.

THANKS for Great Suggestion, I looked over the LINKS etc. and bookmarked but at my age etc., I am alot more TECH SAVY than probably most 81 yr olds BUT I just don't feel confident enough trying to follow all of those instructions, wish I did....know it appears SIMPLE, but I just paid for this NICE Phone and would HATE to BRICK it!
BTW...just abit ago I got notice you sent me a PM but when I tried to open it [SORRY] I guess my Blocker blocked it and sent it into
CyberSpace or something....can't seem to find it now. I just followed ChazzMatt's TIP - and ordered a $2.99 ATT Sim Card to put into my LG V35 to hopefully trigger aN UPDATE. Laters, Michael
Just follow this video for upgrading your V35 to latest firmware
so, (directed toward Chazzmatt) I'm just needing a recommendation on which one to do (or wait for). Ive got the ATT unlocked model on MetrobyTMobile. (LM-V350AWM) I first updated it via modified LGUP to V350ULM20d (V350ULM20d_00_NAO_US_OP_0612), then to V350ULM20f (V350ULM20f_00_NAO_US_OP_0218). ((it still shows as V350AWM in the sys info, but all bloatware is gone))
Now, a while back I went into an ATT store and got them to sell me an un-activated sim card, and tried to update that way and failed (not knowing you had to wait a couple hours or overnight). My question is, would the simcard ota update work for me, and if so, would it be the full blown bloated att version of 10.
Or, should I just keep patiently waiting for the NAO KDZ (V350ULM30?) like you've been screaming for us to do since the very beginning! lol
(apologies for the gratuitous use of parentheses)
*Update - They're now saying we will be getting LG's new Velvet UI, should I wait even longer for that to be released???

The AT&T SIM card trick only works if you still have AT&T firmware installed.
If you cross flashed to another V35 firmware you need to wait for that KDZ to be released. It's coming. LG is just slow. Same deal last year with Pie.

ah, thanks for clearing that up! I'm guessing we might have to wait even longer now that they've announced we'll be getting Velvet UI and need time to add that to the KDZ, or is the UI update something that will come later on?
I have got LS-997 model and software version is US99610f (Nougat). I want to update it to oreo since its a tempered device all sims are working globally all bands are working too, FOTA updates didn't came to this device. I wanna know that if its safe to install US oreo firmware on LS-997 ? Or not. This is the only option left since no kdz is available for sprint models.
I tried to check bootloader it says your account might get suspend, 9 Times Left bla bla ... and fastboot bootloader variable says unlocked = 'NO' .
Non Rooted Device
Thanks Indeed,

As for carrier swapping, I am not sure, there are some other forums on here that are talking unlocking carrier after Oreo Sprint so I am sure it can be done if it happens to relock. I would double check before attempting. Here is one thread... https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/lg-v20-ls997-successfully-unlocked-oreo-t3835061/amp/. Don't update until read though. Just use caution.
You are Right I will share my experience soon
It looks like you have an older, rootable LS997 that has been cross-flashed to US996 Nougat firmware, essentially a Sprint V20 disguised as a US996 that is SIM-unlocked. You won't be able to install the official LS997 Oreo update until you go through the DirtySanta procedure and then flash an old Sprint Nougat ROM near the end of the process. However, after you update to Oreo this way, the phone becomes completely and irreversibly unrootable, which pretty much defeats the purpose of the DirtySanta procedure, so I highly discourage you from doing this. The Sprint firmware is not really useful for anyone who doesn't use Sprint as a carrier.
If you want Oreo or higher, you're much better off installing one of the LineageOS-based ROMs.
One thing I haven't seen anyone do on an LS997 cross-flashed to US996 is trying to flash a US996 Oreo KDZ firmware file. No idea if that works or not, but it would be quite a risk to try since there seems to be no documentation of anyone having done that before.
For more details on just about anything related to the LS997, I've written up a bunch of information here.
If you want full root don't update to Oreo if you are on a full rootable firmware still. All up to you of course. My full root is still Nougat, a Sprint ls997zv7 firmware
Yes thats what I thought exactly .. I found a forum someone did that and he flushed his imei modem completely and there is no way that he can reverse Plus Unfortunately No firmware is available too make sprint phone work again..
