[TUT] [LUMIA] DuckDuckGo as the default search provider in IE - Windows Phone 8 General

FINALLY!! Now I can have DuckDuckGo as the default search provider in IE on my 640XL 8.1.2!!
I wanted this quite badly so I'm very happy now! THANK YOU XDADEV:ERS!!
Howto - hope it helps someone:
Lumia Interop & Cap unlock using vcREG by vcfan. Live unlock is enough.
Download the attached CustomPFD_0003_CAP_SEARCH.xap which is CustomPFD by Pasquiindustry with the searchprovider cap in the manifest.
Deploy it using wppt
With CustomPFD on phone, navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchProviders\ and create a subkey DuckDuckGo.
Then create these strings:
...\SearchProviders\DuckDuckGo\DisplayName: DuckDuckGo
...\SearchProviders\DuckDuckGo\Url: https://duckduckgo.com/?q={searchTerms}
DuckDuckGo is now available as a Default search provider in IE advanced settings.
Link: Windows Phone Dev Center: Additional search providers

Can't write new key with CustomPFD_005 but works with CustomPFD_003 or vcREG.

Alternative T9 dictionary
1.
Before you carry out the ROM upgrade, open the file browser on your phone.
Enable it to see hidden files: Menu > Options > remove the checkmarks from "Hide hidden files", "Hide system files" and "Hide files in ROM"
2.
Find the T9-file here:
\windows\T9Romaniandb.dll
This is the Romanian file - choose the T9 with your own language of course (i.e. T9Romaniandb.dll).
3.
Copy the file to your storage card (meaning your MiniSD), as this will not be affected by the ROM upgrade/installation.
4.
Upgrade - follow the instructions in the top of this topic...
5.
After succesfull firmware installation/upgrade, make a folder named T9 under \Storage\Application Data\
6.
Copy the dll-file be backup'ed on the Storage Card to this new T9-folder.
7.
Now search and install some regedit program
8.
Now the system registry has to be edited.
Open PHM Registry Editor on your phone.
9.1.
Find:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\T9 Input Method\MUI\Languages
Then choose to edit the string by selecting it and click on it - add ",0418" in the end. The comma (,) is important to remember! "0418" is the Microsoft code for Romania, so find the correct Microsoft code for your language somewhere
9.2.
Find:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\T9 Input Method\LDBs
Then add a "String Value", and set "Value" = 0418 and "Value Data" = \Storage\Application Data\t9\T9romanianLdb.dll
Once again, the 0418 may differ in your case - and the T9romanianLdb.dll may be named T9GermanLdb.dll or T9ChtuluLdb.dll or whatever... I don't know all the languages, neither do I know their Microsoft code...
10.
DONE! Reboot the phone, begin writing an SMS. Press and hold * until the menu pops up where you can now choose your own language! icon_smile.gif
If your language is shown, but you can't write anything - you propably did something wront in 9.2

There is hardware difference in C500 and STM5600 which runs on 850. Difference is in switchplexer which in European models filters 900 and 1800/1900 MHz (Murata HA 165) and in STM 5600 (Audiovox) filters 850 and 1800/1900 MHz (Murata HA 216AW). You have to change switchplexer on the board if you want 900 MHz on Audiovox
Or HA 358 (EPCOS D1028) from Sony Ericsson K700... -> 900 Mhz

[release] SpbWeatherUpdater 0.1 -- Weather Update despite Proxy-Restrictions (e.g o2)

Hi Guys,
i wrote a small C#-Application for updating SpbWeather (maybe it should work also with other Weather-Applications) despite Proxy-Restrictions (like Vodafone, o2 etc.). This program emulates a normal Wap-Browser (with an exact User-Agent) and downloads a Weather-html-File of your choice to your PDA. In combination with Pico-WebServer and some little tweaks , SpbWeather updates with this local file.
First of all, it is a beta program. Use this program at your own risk. I will take no responsibilities for malfunctions or/and unintentional data traffic (and costs). It should be working fine, but nobody is perfect.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, here is the Step-by-Step guide what you have to do:
1. Install the lastest Microsoft Compact .Net-Framework on your PDA (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=9655156b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55)
2. SpbWeather
You need a actual version of SpbWeather (it should be with working with other Weather-Programs too, e.g. HTC Weather or PocketWeather)
3. Download the SpbWeather-Template from Spb-Weather-Forum (or somethere else) you want to use. I attached a working template for www.wetter.com
4. Edit the Template-File and search the line "open_url(.......)" . Edit the value in the brackets to open_url("http://localhost/wetter.htm", "GET"); (the name of the .htm - file its your choice).
5. Copy the .tpl - File in the templates - Folder of SpbWeather and add a new City with this edited Template.
6. Install Pico Webserver on your PDA ( http://http://www.tucows.com/preview/200784)
7. Start Picowebserver, goto Settings and edit the Alias Settings. You can choose the default path of the webserver or you can choose another path. But remember this path, we'll need it. Now start the Server.
8. Ok, now you need the WeatherUpdater. Just copy it to a location of your choice and start it. Go to "Settings" and configure the Programm. There are five entrys you can edit.
a. WebServer:
Enter the complete url of the weather site and your town: (wich matched to the template you use for Spb Weather). In my case the Url is: http://www.wetter.com/mobile/wetter.php?id=43367&type=WORLD (enter wetter.com/mobile and you can search your town)
b. Local Web-Server
Enter the Path to the Root-Directory of your Picowebserver (see 6.)
c. Name html-File:
Enter the Name of the htm(l)-file to download...it must matched with the name you edited in the template-File (see 3.)
d. Update on Start:
Downloads the html-Weather-File on Programstart
e. Update-Interval:
Choose an interval for updating the Weather-html-File. You can chosse values between 1 and 1440 minutes. (1min - 24h). Remember, it produces data traffic you have to pay for (or you have a flatrate etc., that's your own risk)) In my example, one update produces 15kb of data traffic. Check various templates with less traffic (maybe less weather info).
With runnig Picowebserver and WeatherUpdater in the background, you can now Update SpbWeather every hour.
What do do next:
-----------------
a. It would be fantastic to integrate the webserver functionality into WeatherDownloader. But i've to check out how to make a Webserver in C#. Maybe someone can help me
Please report any bugs or wishes for further versions.
b. automatic installation with a cab-file and AutoStart functionality
c. HowTo for other Weather Programs like HTC Weather and PocketWeather
d. and many many more features

P.S: Sorry for my English

Nice release Pfischi, something I was looking for quite some ti...........well, forever

[TRICK] How to download from Mega website

[TRICK] How to download from Mega website**Especially for those who doesn't have Admin privileges**
Hi All,
If you have admin privileges you can manually change DNS Server number and access Mega. But unfortunately many may not have Admin rights to modify Network Settings. This guide/trick will provide you necessary tips to download from otherwise unavailable Mega site.
Usually, If you click on download link which is hosted on Mega (Many countries block it!) your browser will greet you with the message "The webpage unavailable" (See first image).
Let's solve this without editing network settings (DNS/VPN etc.).
Requirements:-
1. You need Chrome webbrowser for this. Install Chrome from here.
2. Now Open Chrome--> Goto Chrome Store--> Search for Unlimied Free VPN - Hola & Install this extention app. (Link Here)
Now the trick begins:-
1. Open Chrome and click on the download link. Still you will get the Page not available message. Now You will see some thing like this https://mega.co.nz/#!zBBESCxY!ulXdnKB9_2bvPyRr3aH7WNOP6orm_zkLgJow_1fKK8s in your address bar. (1st Image)
2. Select & Cut from back slash [ / ] after mega.co.nz to the end (like this example:- /#!zBBESCxY!ulXdnKB9_2bvPyRr3aH7WNOP6orm_zkLgJow_1fKK8s)
( Tip:- Use Ctrl+X). (2nd Image)
3. The address bar should have only this https://mega.co.nz (3rd Image)
4. Now Click on Hola extention and Select US or New Zealand or UK server.
(Note:- You may have to try selecting / changing servers few times, be patient, don't give up as it really works) See the Magic,
The mega site opens up.
5. Now paste the actual file address (which you cut in step no. 4) at the end of opened mega web page address and Press Enter. (4th Image)
6. Your download will be ready, now download the file. (See last/5th image)
Happy downloading.

Android plzz...
How to open mega in android
You have to use Mega App... Install it from Play Store.
Never use Hola. They don't have their own servers ! They exchange our internet for others ! Eg. If you are using a USA VPN, then your IP will used by someone else at the same time !

Welcome to CustomPFD, a registry editor with tree view and some tweaks, for Windows Phone 8.1
This app can read Keys with any phone, but to write you have to apply the XAP to Preview For Developers (you can use my tool here)you need to interop-unlock your device and possibly a Lumia device.

Enjoy!
Hi,
Very promising, thank you for your work.
Unfortunately, this does not work with my NL1520 (8.10.14219.341), even after applying the software reset.
Hi, thanks for feedback, could you provide me more details? Where the app "doesn't work"?
- First message: "the operation didn't complete succesfully maybe the app can't get permissions or there's some problems during extracting files. Try to soft reset you phone and retry"
- 2nd message: "Access is denied. Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)"
mhm... it seems that there's a problem with renaming the apps folde (you could try with a file manager).
Sometimes a soft-reset or remove-reinsert SD may help (I've resolved with this method)
However I've published the 0.3 of CustomWPSystem some minutes ago with a fix.
You can manually patch this app with a file manager?
I'll try tomorrow and I'll let you know.
Make sure you didn't install the swapping tool to the SD card, and that you don't have any SD-card-based apps running when you perform the swap. Either of those will prevent renaming the Apps directory.
Version 0.2 is available now
Added a lot of things

Hi,
Thanks.
I followed this (manually method) and works :good:
In version 0.2 I did not found registry tweaks useful for me. Also there was no useful tweaks from there. I can not write keys to achieve SIM contacts import/export feature and others. And can you please publish what the values has been changed to achieve each of your listed tweaks here?
Today I realized that something happens with the Preview for Developers app (changed to your registry editor). It`s just disappeared from the apps list, but marked as installed on the Store page. See more.
Version 0.3 available, as Always you can find the changelog and the download link within the first post
For the next version I will add Sim related tweaks and something related to the settings hub and action center, with Keys and value rename function.

Within the app, at accent color tweak, write R - G - B value of the color. Allowed values are from 0 to 255 (decimal for now)
Then, open settings > start and theme and you will see a new color within the color list with "olive" name

Lumia 920 error
(you can't write here...)
Is it possible to add this option to the featurelist:
Enable the setting of manual / static IP configuration
its described here:
dev.windowsphone.com/en-US/OEM/docs/Driver_Components/Wi-Fi
To facilitate Wi-Fi certification tests, you can enable a screen from the Wi-Fi settings screen that provides UI elements that allow you to specify a static IP address, gateway address, and DNS server address.
To enable the Static IP UI, set the value of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WiFiConnSvc\Parameters\Config\EnableStaticIP registry entry to DWORD 1. If the entry is not set, or is set to any value other than 1, the static IP UI is not enabled. When enabled, the Wi-Fi Static IP UI button appears directly below the Advanced button in the Wi-Fi settings screen.
Interop-unlock
Is this tool ready to interop-unlock a device? If not, what's the problem?
Anything I do, it wont work
I tried doing it with the swaper and it gives the same error as the other guy, so as he did it manually, i tried it the same way.
The preview for developers app shows no Icons and wen i start it, it just shows Loading.... and nothing , just like that :/
Edit : managed it : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57836056&postcount=36

Install Unsigned APPX / UWP

Hi,
Situation \ Case
I was facing a problem with some apps because some of them
Without certificate or expired
The minimum target system is higher than my system
Related Errors
Failure text: A Prerequisite for an install could not be satisfied
The app package must be digitally signed for signature validation
Solution
Export Signed Certificate with private key
Open Manage Computer Certificates by searching for it in Start Menu
Find any certificate with long expiry date in the available folders, you may start with
Personal
Only the certificate with key icon will work so be sure there is a key icon at the top-left corner
Right Click-> Tasks -> Export
Click Next -> Choose "Yes, export the private key"
Click Next -> Keep the options as it is
Click Next -> Activate Password Option -> Enter any password you need
Click Next -> Select Any Location to save the certificate
Click Next -> Review -> Finish
Why you need this certificate?
When you edit any appx file using the MSIX Tool you will lose the original certificate
also this certificate will be helpful to install any appx with expired certificate.
(If you didn't find any certificate let me know)
On your PC
Download and install MSIX Packaging Tool
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/msix-packaging-tool/9n5lw3jbcxkfPrepare your appx:
Some times your app could be packed as appxbundle
In this case just open the file using 7-Zip or any archive software
Extract the appx that Named at the end "ARM" (based on your system)
Exam. extract APP.UWP_2.1.0.0_ARM.appx
If you sure that you have the right file which is for "ARM" and ".appx" Move To the next step
Edit the package using MSIX Packaging Tool:
Select "Package Editor"
Select Your appx file
Assign new certificate
In "Signing preference" Select Sign with a certificate (.pfx)
Select the certificate and enter the password
Edit Manifest file
Scroll Down and click on "Open file" In "Manifest file"
A Text Editor will appear with the Manifest file content
You will edit "MinVersion" value Inside "TargetDeviceFamily"
Set MinVersion="10.0.1.0" (Lower than you device target absolutely)
Save the changes and close the file
The changes will be assigned automatically to package
Click Save -> Choose to keep the same version or to Increase it
Now before you save change the extension from "msix" to "appx"
Done.
Installing
To Install the appx you need to install the same certificate (assigned by MSIX tool) before.
On mobile: Just open the certificate, click install.
On PC:
Open the certificate
Click "Install Certificate"
Select "Local Machine" then click "Next"
Select "Place all the certificates in the following store"
Click "Browse"
Select "Trusted People" then click "OK"
Click "Next" then click "Finish"
Hope this will help.

Most welcome , sadly no you can't, the app should for ARM devices only and desktop apps only for x86-x64
You can force it to install by change the architect in "Manifest file" from x86-x64 to arm but it will not work for sure

Yeah true, I was hoping that they already have them arm ready with all Windows X news and now it seems that not coming anymore. Such amazing OS (Windows Phone) just wasted.

Right, Microsoft wasted many important projects for no reason
If you are looking for real PC experience and you are not using you phone as main phone

Now it's really good and provide better performance
+Disabling Windows Defender will solve a lot of performance issues.
or check this channel for Fadil Fadz which contains many good solutions to use WOA even boot from SD card if you want to keep your W10M
Than you for sharing i recently bought Lumia 950 for experimentation and projects .. Only challenge is i heard WOA is performing extremely poorly on Lumia 950, Nevertheless worth a try. I will take up that project today and keep you posted.
@astifan So I went through the cycle of flashing Windows 10 and getting all the updates. I even got 21H1 feature update. Sadly its very slow and unusable.
I also tried multiple methods to try to retain Windows Phone and still keep development / developer menu but was unsuccessful.
Do you know how I can flash just the developer / development Menu that lets me booth into USB Mass storage Mode without Flashing the whole WOA. Sorry if its common knowledge or dumb question.
A link to WOA SD Card Installer will also help.
I cannot find any certificate, could you share some?
