Looking to purchase a Sammy s5 and am not familiar with flashing since my Galaxy nexus days. (those were the days lol) Been in the Motorola boat for some time.
Base band shows G900VVRU1BOCA and according to Samsung's website, I believe this means it's at the LP version at this point. Any problems flashing back to KK to root etc that I need to be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

That was probably OC4. No problem downgrading, rooting, then upgrading again and keeping root.
I had one of those Galaxy Nexus's too. Nothing could be as fun as those were. Flash a different rom and kernel every day for at least a month.

I have a GS4, but will be switching to a Note 3 hopefully.
Is there root available for Note 3 prior to OTA upgrades or after OTA upgrades? Is the recovery unlocked as well up until a certain point on these as well? If so which versions are these options available?
Its rootable regardless of build.
Is locked regardless of build too. Lucky for us safestrap allows custom ROM. Aosp not gonna happen... No custom kernels. Feature wise though I love my note 3. I came from s4 as well. It will be a nice upgrade.

See responses above in brackets.
I came to the Note 3 from the S4 and it is a very nice upgrade. I love this phone, it's very much like the S4 with a ton of added features. Do it, you won't be disappointed at all. As far as root goes, yes.
So taking a look around the net today, I came across an article that states that you can flash Kitkat onto N900 (Galaxy Note 3) using Odin... Does/Would this also include the Verizon version of the Note 3? I was under the belief that Verizon's bootloader didn't allow for KitKat installations because of some kernel compatibility issue or something keeping it from working... But would this allow for a Kitkat working install on (non-dev-edition) Ver-Note3? And if so, would this allow lay the groundwork for devs to be able to create install-able kitkat roms for said device? Any and all info/help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I'm sure there's a great deal of want for people with the Verizon Note 3 to be able to have KitKat, myself included!

This applies to the international version only sm-900 witch has a unlocked bootloader. I'm almost positive someone here tried it and bricked their phone.
Hey XDA I have rooted and installed custom roms on various android devices in the past, and am now working on my Note 4.
I have it rooted and TWRP installed , but am now unsure if I need to flash a different modem or bootloader. I understand that the Canadian variant uses the T-Mobile Roms.
I am looking to install CMRemix http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/development/rom-cmremix-rom-v2-5-12-23-14-t2981479 which is a T-Mobile Rom.
Will I simply download and flash it or do I need to do extra work first?
Thank you, and I apologize for posting this question. I was slowly going crazy after searching the forum for these things to no avail!
I figured it out. I checked by bootloader and it was up to date. I was having issues with Odin, but after reconnecting the USB cable 6 different times it finally picked up my phone in Downloading mode!
No worries. It seems that the N910W8 is basically the same hardware as the N910T3.
In the same way the Note 3 T-Mobile was the same as the Note 3 Canadian variant.
No need to worry about modems assuming yours is up to date.
Although, I must admit that while CM Roms tend to have interesting features, they lack support for some of the built-in hardware, and the battery life has been inferior in my own experience.
You should check out Temasek's CM versions.
Have fun
Hey guys. Was trying to get cyanogenmod on my s6 edge + only to discover the exynos chip made it impossible. So I deiced to look at roms here and none of them seem to support the G928V. Is this the case? I have odin 3.10.7, can I at least root the phone, or will this thing be forever bloated?
Thanks!

I just came across a S6edge+ and I'm wondering the same thing. I've been doing some googling and it seems there isn't really anything for us, not even a root guide.
Whats the difference with the Verizon model?
EDIT: The KNOX "feature" on the Verizon model prevents root. http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-e...vents-root-on-verizon-and-att-note-5-s6-edge/

The G928V Verizon phone will never have root, just like the AT&T version of it.
It has a locked bootloader which cannot be unlocked, that's why it can't be rooted.
BUT there is one really NICE thing you can install in your phone, which is a really
beautiful theme which will work for all rooted & un-rooted samsung's latest phones.
This is a one of a kind theme. - No other theme can even compare to it.
Check out this link and you will see what I mean:

Good luck,
Have a great day!
This model is a Verizon variant and i also stupidly bought the Verizon variant, ive been searching for root for months. No one is bothering to crack it.
Since I just got A S4 I have some questions. I mainly am used to nexus/moto devices in terms of roms/etc, and I know the process is entirely different with the S4.
The model is a AT&T S4. Updated to 5.0.1
I know I won't be able to unlock the bootloader, which is okay as long as I CAN have some hopes of running another firmware on it.
All I require is Root/Xposed, and maybe CM13..or any other android 6.0 based ROM. How feasible are my options? I won't know until I physically have it, but what should I look out for in terms of firmware/bootloader codes?
You cannot run any custom ROM unless the rom is based on a Samsung kernel which means no cm or aosp ROMs.

that sucks. Guess I will sell it for a bit higher than I bought it and grab something else. Thank you.
I have an s4 (Canadian version, i337m) which doesn't have a locked bootloader and I find the phone okay with stock unrooted LP. I used to based my phone decisions on whether there was an XDA forum but my flashaholic days are behind me
