[Q] Facebook sync

I cannot synchronize FB contacts with phone contats. It says that synchronization is not available. Does anyone know why is this happening?

Try using the Facebook from the Market, Works a lot better than the defaults on the Galaxy

did you try By contact , get friend, add account, add account, facebook (integrated contact account)?

Just tried this one.
It works but it adds the contacts 2-3 times and no pictures...

It sais to me: Sync is currently expecting problems. It will be back soon.
However, it does not look like it will be any soon
If I use Market FB application for sync, it adds friends but without pictures.

I saw this problem mentioned in czech android forum, they are having the same problem since friday. So I think its some server related problem which will be fixed soon.

Sweet... better try to have some patience then. Not my strong side

i synchronized yesterday with the stock app and everything is OK, all contacts with pictures....

I am having the same problem.
Calender sync. seems to work.
contacts not worked for several days.

However, it is strange that not everyone has these problems.
I can also synchronize everything but contacts (History and Activities are working)

Maybe its depending on the ROM you have installed. The European Version seems to have the problem, that syncing Facebook contacts is not possible, without installing the facebook app. But if you cync with the app, you have the problem, that the number of linked people is rising with the reboots you are doing....

So for me, with JF3 Rom and kernel-version 2.6.29 its not possible to sync with facebook...
Very sad!

Worked until yesterday on JM5 with Samset 1.9b.
But after I reflashed it i can't sync. Same ROM and all.. strange.

I remember on my old HTC Magic, i could sync my contacts to their facebook pages, i cant seem to do this on my SGS although i can sync my facebook contacts to my phonebook...
Any idea's?

The problem suddenly arose for me too just the other day. Then I had JM2, no root or other fixes.
Now I'm sitting on JM5 + SamSet 1.9b + lag fix and the problem is still there. I'm just assuming that there are some sever issues atm. I'm from sweden so the theory that it is european-related still holds.

Yeah must be something server related.
Tried removing the Samsung Mobile app from facebook and letting it install again. But did´t help either.

Same problem for me, even with the stock JF3 firmware. Now I'm on JM5 and still the same. I hope either FB or Samsung are aware of the issue and are trying to fix it.

This does not solve the problem.

I had the same issue and fixed it two or three days ago.
It seems the sync in the new 1.3.1 app from the market has issues (probably just with SGS) but can sync contacts (sometimes repeatedly) without any other data like pics. I tried to resolve this several times using the new 1.3.1 version and failed. To resolve my problem I had to:
1. Remove the Facebook account sync entries in Settings > Accounts and Sync > section
2. Uninstall Facebook app 1.3.1
3. Manually add the SGS inbuilt Facebook sync and resync contacts (getting pics etc back)
4. Reinstall Facebook app 1.3.1 from the market, and go through the sign-in wizard, saying 'don't sync' at when questioned.
Now using downloaded app, with inbuilt sync client and it seems to be fine.
PS: The older inbuilt client uses a brighter blue icon with rounder edges and graduated colour - this way you can tell which is which in the account sync area.
Anyone else want to try?

[Q] removing T-Mobile sync

Anyone know how to remove the T-Mobile Sync option? When ever I add a new contact it adds it to T-Mobile sync and not to google.

You are talking about two different things:
1. saving new contacts to t-mobile account is default, you cannot change that. But before you save your contact you can choose from a pull down menu to save it in your google account. Next time you add another contact it defaults to t-mobile again. It sucks and is the only things that really bothers me.
2.syncing with t-mobile account...your t-mobile contacts are synced with the t-mobile server....you can stop the syncing by going to the account and sync menu. you can stop the syncing but you cannot remove the t-mobile account completely.

as am i, hopefully someone finds the service or .apk name for that because if someone who rooted the phone and wants to use it on a diff carrier doesnt need that sync account in there.

Now I found a way and just did it on my MT4G. Grab root explorer or similar if you don't have it. Open it and use the search for "nab" anything that comes up I.E. that says tmobile.nabservice blah blah blah. There was like 4-5 files for me one zip, obex, and a few others delete em all then your done. The Tmobile sync account is gone and the default contact save is the first account you set up for in sync.

How do you know it automatically saves it to your "tmobile" account? because i have auto sync unchecked for tmobile, and when i go into the settings for my contacts i have everything unchecked except google contacts...but under tmobile contacts it says ZERO

You know it's adding to T-Mobile, because when you go to add a new contact, T-Mobile is the default...

This gets T-Mobile out of the list of Contact Types, but now Phone is the default - not the Google account I wish to be the default. I wanted to see if those who have deleted all traces of Nab, have Phone as a Contact Type and if it is the default.

How strange, in my case it saves by default to my Google account every time I create a new contact. Check your display settings.

Slow reply sorry for me my default contact save is the first gmail account i added. not sure what it would be if u didn't have a sync account besides t-mobiles sync but id assume it would be phone until u add a google account.

ok, so we've had push notifications for quite some time now, since 2.2
does anyone know the reason why SO many apps(big ones, too) seem to refuse to implement push notifications?
facebook says they have them, but they've never worked for me ever. and there's no settings for them. only for polling
official twitter app still polls
words with friends polls
etc
do these devs just not want to add in support for 2 sets of phones? 2.2+ and everyone below 2.2?
i can't think of any reason why this happens, but its a huge issue in my eyes. android phones get bad enough battery life as is.

Don't use Facebook as an example. Their app is pure garbage. Lots of apps use Push. Trillian, Skype, Talk, eBuddy, etc...

Yes but my point is lots of apps also don't use push still. Apps that are updated regularly. It makes no sense to me that devs are seemingly ignoring it.

There are options for Twitter. They're just buried under each account.

Google search must be incredibly wrong then

The only options under the profile are for polling (the correct term. it periodically polls the server for updates). Just like the facebook one there's no sign of any push options anywhere

ok, so apparently "automatic refresh" means push notifications? thats so misleading. it's not refreshing anything, then
yet there is still an option to set how often it polls the server, with no option for never

either way, this still backs up my point that they have ****ty devs making these apps

I'm pretty sure this is a feature for people who follow hundreds, if not thousands, of people who don't want to be pushed a notification every second of every day. They must figure that people with a lot of followers would rather see a big chunk of updates at once rather than being notified to death.
And yes, "Automatic Refresh" doesn't sound like push notification at all but that's just part of the crummy UI of the official twitter app.

Trust me i've tryed and it works for me and a lot of my friends, to enable Facebook push notifications:
1 kill the application in "application manager" and erase data and cache.
2 Go to facebook.com with pc and deactivate your account (don't worry you won't lose anything)
3 after a minute log in again with the pc
4 and now log in with you phone
Now it should work.
Try and tell me if it works. i've set the update period to 4 hours.

That's what I did to get mine working too. Just deactivate your account on the Facebook website, and then activate it again. Push starts working right after you log back in on the web and your phone.

I have the latest version of twitter, 2.1.2, and there is no "automatic refresh" above the sync contacts setting. Cool?

Dang... I was really, really hoping this would work. I deleted the data for the app on my phone and deactivated my facebook account. I then reactivated my account and then logged in in my phone. I have since had 2 facebook notifications show on the web browser, but I have yet to have any sort of notification on my phone.
This has been especially bad since the gmail app no longer allows other apps to see the email, which knocked out my "push" notifications for facebook from Friendcaster Pro. Grr... I just want push notifications.

I hoped it would work to. No such luck. I did the deactivate thing and don't see any change.

Hotmail display HTML with exchange

Has anyone figured out how to get Hotmail to display email in HTML format instead of plain text when configuring as an exchange account? The option to toggle to HTML is not available and only plain text is. I thought someone mentioned a trick to make it work involving setting up the account as imap first, deleting it, then setting up as exchange but I couldn't get it to work. Thanks!

Not sure what you mean, i configured my outlook/hotmail account using the m.hotmail.com as server, and i get my mail as html.

Using the stock email client? When I use the stock one and try to setup as exchange, html isn't an option. Anyone else having the problem I'm having?

Yup, don't have that option, only plain text. It might be because you have an @outlook email address? Mine is @hotmail.

I have the same issue. My outlook.com address has no option for html on this phone, but works fine on all other android devices.

I'm having the same issue.
I was able to get it one time with html as an option and it and html showed, but then it would not sync new emails. I hate the plain text.
Im open to any ideas as well, since it works with the stock app.

I configured it as exchange manually using m.hotmail.com as server

Ok. Thanks for checking. Maybe hot mail is having an issue with their server right now.
Edit: I did notice that if you us s.outlook.com as the server it allows you to sync an additional item.

I noticed that my server kept changing to bay-m.hotmail.com instead of just m.hotmail.com.
After multiple attempts of adding and removing, I somehow managed to get the server to stay m.hotmail.com...I configured it manually and this time it stuck. I was still getting plain text as the only option though under message format and the emails. In the settings I changed Message Size limit to max and then under general settings I changed Load Linked images to Always load. After multiple refreshes it started coming in as html.
I'm still not sure why i plain text is the only option in the Message format box, since under server policy is says Allow HTML email.

just bought myself a G2 and cant get this to work either. No html. some emails just dont look crappy, they dont work at all.

Android 4.4 KitKat has fixed the email issue with it not displaying html messages. Mine in now working fine.

[Q] Issues after upgrading to KitKat on Note 3 (N9005)

Let's start with te facts:
I live in the Netherlands and haven't modified my N9005 in any way. No root, no custom roms. Everything is stock.
Last friday I got an OTA for the KitKat update. Installing went fine.
After a while, troubles were starting.
First thing that went wrong was an error "android.process.acore stopped". This message started an couldn't be stopped anymore. Even after a reboot I still got the same error over and over again. I tried all fixes I could find on the internet, but ended up with resetting my phone to factory setting
After soms hours of reinstalling my phone, my phone keeps crashing. Out of the blue my phone freezes and then reboots. This happens about 5 times a day.
I also got an error when I opened my SViewCover (com.sec.android.sviewcover stopped).
And now I discovered that Samsung made a change in the email app. Normally I only received the last 50 mails. This way I could reduce my data usage a lot. I have a mailbox where I receive more then 1000 emails a day. Now Samsung removed this option and stared downloading up to 5000 messages. Also the default is to load max 50kb per email. Because of this I used 600MB in this weekend alone!
Does anybody else have the same issues and maybe found a solution?

However on 4.3 there are two options

I see the option for max size, but nr of emails to download is gone.

Yeah im not too happy with the changes made as well. The thing I dislike the most is that now you have to have the sync toggle on to manual sync. In 4.3 I would use the sync toggle for push emails and manual when its off.
EDIT: I can see now you said you get 1000 emails a day! What I wrote below won't help, sorry.
To get to your issue: the only solution I can think of (without looking for another email app) is to change the "Period to sync email" to the shortest setting*, which would be a day. This is how I've got my spammed email set up, so when it does sync it doesn't use up loads of battery or data.

I wish Samsung in future wouldn't try fixing something that isn't broken.
* the shortest sync setting will sync more than a day if you need it to, by that I mean you just get a day at a time when you sync. Sync twice and you'll get two days worth of emails.

Tnx for your response. Unfortunately your suggestion won't fix my problem indeed.
I really liked the default email client because of the good integration and PGP support. But alternatives as K-9 are also quite good.
My biggest worries are the continues crashes. I really get frustrated by that. At this moment I can't use my phone for the wake-up alarm. After a reboot my phone asks for my pincode (what I really don't want to turn off). I really hope Samsung will come up with a solution. That's why I "hope" that more people have this issue so Samsung will take it seriously.
