Camera Tests Z3 - Post your pics here -

in theory Sony Xperia Z3 has the same sensor of Z1, Z1 Compact and Z2, but with the new lens, camera firmware and a revised hardware support Sony promises great improvements
Actually new lens are 25mm for a good wide-angle, firmware seems to work better than previous Z2 and hardware should work better in low light conditions. Now you can raise the ISO to 12800, too. Autofocus is faster
Then we could use this thread to collect our shots taken from Sony Z3..It would be great to compare photos with the other devices

Hmm.. They seem to be OK but not excellent.. Not sure if worth changing from my m8 (sure it's better camera on z3 but not THAT much)

Those look superb. I need to go someplace nice to test the cam on my Z3

I don't want to start any war or anything and my z3 is already in the post waiting for me but looking at these pictures I am really not sure if I should get it. I am compering side by side to m8 pictures and I could say that 55% of the time m8 makes better pictures..

Wait and do side by side. Then zoom and crop. The results will be very revealing to you. I had the M8 for 5 months. Great phone....great build quality....great UI....very fast and the boom sound is amazing. But the camera was very disappointing. Sorry but 4MP is still 4MP even if they are Ultra pixels.

I learned since getting this phone just how irrelevant mega pixels are .Is this better then my htc one? I imagine so,I cant do a comparison as i no longer have my htc but iam pretty sure this camera is better but is it ALOT better? I would have to say no.I expected the camera to be alot better then it is personally but i saw mentioned that it may improve after a firmware update so fingers crossed because if this is supposed to be one of the best camera's on a smartphone then the competition must be lacking

From the specs atleast the sensor size on z3 is bigger than htc one m8. So it should make a difference in low light photography

Yeah must agree. I have now taken some comparison shots with both of them and z3 is quite a lot better. Yet it also leaves something to improve.

The error in the camera app is because you have "Ok Google" enabled on any screen in Google now, I had this same issue and turned it off until Sony release a fix for it.

Thanks for the comparison pictures. I own a Z2 myself and the picture quality seems very similar to the Z3's.
Maybe it's just me, but I personally preferred the M8's pictures! They looked sharper and less noise, even if it can't zoom as much as the Z3's pics

most of these are average at best.

There's no way the M8 camera is better. It is one of the lowest rated cameras of any current smartphone. Many professional tests have been conducted, check multiple websites if you don't believe me.
It's possible you either have a faulty unit, unlocked your bootloader which broke the sensor software (read about it in another thread) or Sony need to release a firmware update to fix this.

Iam guessing a firmware update will improve things because i too am underwhelmed with the camera on this phone and i surprisingly thought the m8 pictures looked better in this thread which is kinda embarrassing for sony if you ask me! I havent played around much with the camera if iam honest but with the few pics i have taken i have found sharpness to be lacking ALOT and the flash is way too bright and ruining night time pics

I tried but on my PC it asked for image url and would not let me just upload from pictures? Thanks for the advice though and if you know how I would prefer that way. Lots more photos.

Both phones set to auto and also auto focus. Z2 set to superior auto but test for yourself in darkness Z2 as seen here does strange things. Please note I am keeping my z2 as windows os is too limited for my use but this is purely an experiment I wanted to do as I knew the 920 is probably the best low light camera phone.

It's defo a strange one. Overall if I were someone buying a phone just for camera performance I would choose 920 due to wider angle lens and manual controls (not used here) BUT the z2 has better camera apps, faster shutter speed (just) and the ability to take 60 2mp photos in a blink of an eye (timeshift burst). Tis a pickle
I forgot to mention have you ever tried to send a video taken on the camera using your android phone? try it now
Windows will compress your video so you can send it Android will just refuse pretty crappy Google!
Camera aside windows is a limited os and not an option for android users.

(Camera Comparison) AM7 vs Sony Xperia Z2 - I own both

I really enjoy the Z2 camera experience but the slow shutter speed when using the on screen button started to bug me. I was intending on buying the Nexus 6 or Note 4 but they both left me feeling underwhelmed so I decided on the AM7.
In this thread I will be taking photos every opportunity I can and posting them here.
All photos will have the AM7 first and the Z2 second for continuity.
Auto mode or superior auto (Z2) will be used at all times and regardless of what anyone has to say about auto modes that's what most people use!
I will post from either phone when I can so every upload will be from the XDA app.
Please keep comments constructive
Any trolling or unacceptable comments will be reported to the moderator.

AM7 is the first photo and the Z2 is the second one on both photos.
The photos were taken at 2330hrs with only an overhead standard bulb.
I describe these conditions as dingy at best. No flash used and auto mode used for both photos.

Need more time. Only had the phone for a day.
From first impressions shutter speed is amazingly fast like iphone 6 fast or htc one. Low light pictures display some noise but the z2 does also. Framerate of camera app is similar to z2 so that's a good thing. More testing required but the handset is extremely high end and happy I went with this rather than nexus 6 or Note 4.
Screen and brightness is great and speaker is very loud indeed!

Let's keep this thread professional. Lots more photos taken today in bad light. I must say I am impressed. I was very worried about the camera from what reviews had said but it's a good sensor and looks like huawei did a good thing by not using too much processing etc.

People are complaining about Huawei's poor cameras but these photos are comparable to any phone. Not so bad.

Both did pretty well, though I give a slight edge to the Z3, seemed more "natural" in some of those pics to me.
Then again both use Sony Exmor Sensors. The S6 uses the Sony IMX240 and the Z3 uses the Sony IMX 220.

To be honest I can't really see the difference since the pictures were converted to videos and that would made it difficult to compare. Some pics z3 wins in color but some also s6 has more detail. Both performed great at lowlights but i think I have to give it to s6 for now. O need to see real file/picture comparison. Z3 is great but "superior auto" is messed up intentionally.

Well a lot of people like warmer temp photo's but to be honest the Samsung one has gone too far. Not sure what the point of that comparison was for exactly, maybe just trying to get youtube thumbs up

This proves to me that my Z3 camera is faulty as I never get that kind of sharp detail on grass and leaves, it's always a bit fuzzy.

Might also been compared to Z3 with lollipop.

I'm guessing those pics were on manual mode.

S6 completely destroys it in that video.

If one knows the way of using manual mode to take pics in Xperia Z3, it is much better than the others
Z3 in manual mode with particular settings for particular scene gives you top class pictures .....only Superior auto mode is not good

Look closely you will see mirrored apple sign ... also look on bevels, and the color of the phone.

Installed Camera Zoom Fx and now photos are pretty good!

The iPhone 6 uses a Sony ISX014 which is a smaller sensor vs the Sony IMX 240 in the Galaxy S6/Note 4 so you are right those photos could be misleading, nice find lol. I did not observe that reflection.

i think the problem are the artifacts....too much visible is many conditions....hope sony will be solve, at least a little,with an update.... In the end the hardware (sensor i mean....300) it's the same of the previous generations...so...

Yes HDR fires up in Auto, but it's an AUTO mode so it fires up automatically lol

But even in mid-range devices we have an option to keep it always on or in auto mode...

The hdr there is in optimal situations . But try xperia xz...and tell me where are those artifacts in photos...there are more on x performance (but it have a greater score there). Stabilizzation same of x-performance? What the... the 5 axis stabilizzation do a greater stabilizzation than x-performance eis. Rgb sensor is usless in xz? More real colours on xz than x-performance. Focus the same of x-performance??? The laser autofocus is usless? NO. It's working better than hybrid focus of x,x-performance and z5 series, who have serious problems with macro photos (you must use zoom to do macro shoots). But x performance have 88 and xz 87.... This is crazy. I try both ...and xz have a very superior camera (expecially in auto) . The 3 sensors works great and xz do a really better night shoots than x-performance. On -performance you must be stable to do shoots or the photo became moved and noisy. On xz point and shoot! So...this camera review is absurd....

Well before it was 90, idk why they changed the score, weird, well xz has the best natural camera software for me , better than Samsung (way to much oversaturated on ambled screen but in real viewing on pc or TV it's not good at all,)

I'm curious if the quality improves with respect to post processing artifacts when you use another camera app like opencamera or camera-fv5 or footej-camera ?
And if camera2api is actually available wouldn't the other apps take advantage of that?
I had a z3 before, and i always got better shots on camera-fv5. My xz is arriving this week, looking FWD to see how it compares with my OnePlus3 and Samsung s7edge

When the results are in line with your rhetoric you praise DXOmark. When they are different you are sure they are rigged. Great logic !

Rear camera sucks indeed mostly because of weak dynamic range but front shooter works better. So I guess if you want to have good pics use front camera lol
