Custom ROM - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, so I FINALLY got my S5 Rooted, but now I just need a custom rom. Which one in your opinion is a better option and why? I've heard cyanogenmod is good but I can't seem to find that in Lollipop at all so I either missed it or it's not available yet, so i'm lookin for some other opinions.
SIde note: I myself got use to Lollipop, is there a way I can upgrade to that and still keep root?

We have a locked bootloader so you are limited to the Roms we have here. Yes you can upgrade and keep root. Find the rom you want to run first. This will help you decide which lollipop firmware you want to run. Roms found here.

Gotcha. So I shouldn't use the system update in the phone, i should use a custom ROM.
Alright, thanks.

[Q] Help! How to root Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 (AT&T) on Android 4.4.2

Hey, so I am new to this group! Thanks for existing and being so willing to help!!
So here is my question, I want to root my GS4 but was not able to find good information on how to do so when running Android 4.4.2. I do not want to downgrade to 4.3 so please don't suggest that option. I also (obviously) don't want to brick my phone so a "safe" option would be nice.
My hardware again is a Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-i337, Android Version 4.4.2, Carrier AT&T, USA, and last three characters of the Baseband version is NB1.
Anyway, any tips, pointers, links or other help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

At this time there is no way to root 4.4.2 without downgrading to 4.3

Too bad! Do you believe that there will be an option eventually? Or is there a "hard wall" that completely prevents it?

Maybe. I don't know. I downgraded my phone after I updated to 4.4 because I didn't see much of a difference and I wanted to root and flash ROMs.

There's no hard wall, but devs are doing other things like Hash working on kexec and others looking into bootloader exploits and whatnot. May I ask why you don't want to downgrade? The method's been tested and simplified a bit, and you don't need ODIN every time you want to flash a different ROM or mod now.

Thanks for the quick responses! I just got the phone Tuesday (yes I know the s5 comes out tomorrow) and some how I missed that At&t decided to lock boot loaders. I guess at&t is jealous that a group of enthusiast and hobby programmers can produce awesome firmware and doesn't have their trash/bloatware. I'll probably give these a try soon. I think the stock firmware is okay but I do miss my root privileges and aosp/cm/aokp ROMS. Thanks again guys.

Good news... the guy who said there is no way to root 4.4.2 with SuperSU is wrong
Use towel root and then install supersu from market but don't open it yet... Now install terminal emulator open and type 'su' and supersu will prompt. Type into terminal emulator without the quotes of course, 'pm disable com.whateverknoxappnameislol' I can't recall the Knox app name off hand. When you finish close term emu and open SuperSU no and update binaries, then it'll prompt to disable Knox and it'll succeed. Reboot, uninstall Towel Root, and enjoy.
root

that method works if you are on ni1. Just use towelroot for anything else

[Q] Upgrade 4.3 with root

My bank has released a new app which is only available on DVU1ANE1.
What's the best way to get this update with a rooted device? Do I simply download the firmware, remove recovery and flash SuperSU?
Or is there a better way to do this?
Surely there is someone who knows the answer to this seemingly simple request?

I like stock, so it wasn't an option. Needless to say, the ROM selection for the S5 is rather low when it comes to quality. I prefer to stick with a stock ROM.
Anyway, I flashed the official ROM, los root and used Geohots Towel Root. Worked a charm on my G900i.

[Q] Note 3 Lollipop ROMs

So now that the Lollipop OTA has FINALLY been released for the SM-N900V, anyone have an idea how long until we can see a rooted version or a stable ROM?
I'd like just a stock rooted ROM like the one found in this thread:

Awesome man! What is the name of your ROM? Also, how will the kernel update / etc work? I take it I won't be able to use Safestrap for the ROM, and will probably lose any ability to go back 4.4 ROMs, correct?

I can't wait for multisystem. Could you tell me if FoxFi works in LP on the Samsung ROM?
IDK if it will or not. Also, I like all the little tweaks I can do with xposed, but there's no installing that for a while..... or bootloop city... and loss of ROOT!!! AAAHHHH!

ok.. so? its not like you can update your phone via ota anyways. but why are you still on 5.0(.1)? dont you want your phone to work better? update your rom, lol.
My ROM is still on 5.1 because I lost my kitchen software due to a dead laptop. I expect to transition to 6 in future.
But don't you still have TWRP or some other custom recovery? If your on a custom rom, updating doesn't really use your computer?

Updating a personal ROM require PC software to update it. Of course, not to flash other ROMs.

If your bootloader is locked, and I believe it is since the phone is probably running a stock rooted 5.01 ROM, you cannot install a custom recovery which means you cannot flash any custom ROM that is not based on a stock touchwiz ROM.

Can we downgrade to a version before lollipop and flash custom roms ?
Nope, downgrading is not possible. You'll be limited to using safe strap to flash tw based Roms. Cm and aosp Roms are not possible.
No, you can't down grade to anything you could flash a custom recovery to. Look into safestrap.

As in the guide "the keep root method for OK2" clearly stated that the lowest you can downgrade the ATTS4 is kitkat NB1.
Since you are on OK2 bootlaoder and want to install the custom rom I suggest you need to find the OK2 based TW custom rom.
Because the bootloader is locked, you can not install the custom recovery like TWRP. You are stuck with either safestrap or flashfire.
I recommend to use the flashfire since safestrap is too tricky to work with lollipop. With flashfire you can flash tw based custom rom in the lollipop.
