On an old Sprint Hero with stock 2.1 Sense ROM, I recently rooted, wiped and installed CM 7.2. At first, Superuser was working and I was able to restore things like old SMS. However, after a day, Superuser is no longer able to grant root access to things like Titanium Backup or even itself. I tend to get a force close for Superuser when trying to elevate. I've tried downgrading the Superuser APK to the version that came with CM 7.2 (I had upgraded it). I've also tried booting into recovery to replace the binary su. Neither option works.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a way around it?
Try installing busybox from the play store also try updating the app from within the app if you haven't already

The problem was solved by downgrading both the Superuser APK and the binary file. I have root access again. For some reason Superuser 3.1 and the 3.1.1 binary weren't behaving.
Glad you got the problem solved.

i have the same problem
Alright,
I'm running the MF9 stock firmware. this is my second S4 both were L720's. I rooted my first s4 in my sleep with the auto root/stock recovery, with Odin and the .tar file. I kept the files on my computer, since i have vast amounts of space and partially lazy; i didn't delete them. When i got my second s4 the firmware was MF9. So i flashed the tar with Odin, everything seem to work fine. no errors or hangs, when it booted back up to main menu it didn't have super user..
I downloaded the super user app, from the app store, said my binaries are out dated and needed update
okay, go for it.. everything was smooth/green other then the out dated version of superuser. but when it tried to get root access it failed
I used Odin to install openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-jfltespr.tar everything was smooth
used adb to boot to recovery, worked great twrp booted up
i installed the superuser.zip from there
everything was smooth no errors /cleared the cache
rebooted still no super on my desktop/app drawer
I'm trying to avoid flashing stock rom then trying to re-root if any other possible way to root my device
would greatly help.
for all the people that say"google is ur friend" ever link is purple that starts or has the words "root" "superuser" "L720"
it is my friend but people are smarter and more dynamic then Google "my friend"
Thanks,
-L
Solved!! L720 cant install su superuser in recovery twrp/ cant gain root
Ive been working on this for the last two days, seems like all i needed was to post, i work in a support desk. Oddly alot of people have issues when they have been trying to fix, yet when they ask for help, there either figure it out. or it simply fixes its self
Well, i fix this issue my self
i used file manager and went to the /system/apps folder
my plan was to erase all traces of super user and re-install
when i got to super user
it wasn't like the normal icons, this one was different from the ones ive personally installed from the app store
so i installed it
it uninstalled the"app store" super users and installed this one.
(i have uninstalled super user previously before this and tried to flash with no success, hence the deeper clean)
It went about installing, and BAM!! asked me to grant super user control, i agreed to the prompt and opened up busy box
it finally loaded up correctly asked for super user access. I granted it
Issue resolved> idk why this was harder then before, but it works that's what matters, I know no one posted here, but hope this helps at lest one other person then me, Thanks XDA and all the programmers/theme'rs/developers
Ok so i rooted my s5 using odin 3.07, CF-Auto-Root-kltespr-kltespr-smg900p.tar.md5 and SM-G900p.knox_removal.android.5.0.zip
Its probably worth noting my phone is on lolipop from samsung.
After i used those via odin the phone rebooted as expected. However the first time it booted it would not work. It would get to the home screen after start up and system process would fail.
I rebooted into recovery and used the fix permissions and fix selinux option.
Now my phone works fine with 1 exception, i get an error that says google play services encountered an unknown error. Any idea what is causing this?
I also have installed twrp 2.8.7 ( i think that was the latest available ) this was done using the twrp app which initially said it failed but when i rebooted into recovery it was there.
Any help would be appreciated. Also is it normal for the rom to refuse to check for upgrades once rooted?
I have been trying to flash gapps to my phone in the hopes of getting rid of this google play services error but i cant seem to flash gapps.

hello, i have a new problem found few days ago and been trying to fix it but to no avail.
here is how it started.
i tried to install an app called fsecure vpn network from google play. then the phone when into a bootloop. then i did a clean wipe (reset, wipe cache and dalvik from recovery) but somehow my files were not gone. that is some kinda miracle i have no idea how it happened.
since then my phone have issue whenever i installed mihome:
-. google play services, trebuchet, package installer, and some other has stopped.
-. cannot open apps list in settings when mihome is present. the settings just stopped and crashed.
-. if i try to open the mihome, the phone goes reboot.
-. even uninstalling mihome from application list is not working, the package installer stopped. have to uninstall from google play.
-. i tried to make a bluetooth printer app, but when i put the app-debug.apk into my phone. file manager would crash whenever it tried to read the file. even by just scrolling down. example: file manager work fine if the file is not copied inside (meaning we can scroll around and not crash). but once the file is copied in then the file manager will work if we dont scroll down to find the file, but when we scrolled down to find the file then the app crash.
things i've tried:
-. clean wipe then reflashing rom and gapps.
-. manually update google play store, download google package installer and reinstall it.
-. tried to download google play services apk but was unable to install it.
-. tried the idea of clearing cache of google play service but still no luck (force stop was disabled anyway so i cant try that)
i have no idea how this all happen just because i tried to install that fsecure app. its not even fully installed yet. it was just starting to install after download then this hell happened.
im desperate for some help as i've tried for 3 days in fixing it but to no luck. any helps would be very appreciated.
thanks and regards,
hendry

Hello,
Did you try to reinstall Stock ROM ?
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-grand2/SM-G7102/
It happened to me that sometimes, apps or rom just run into a bug and maybe it corrupt the firmware but after a Stock ROM flash (via Odin) + custom recovery (via Odin) to wipe Cache + Data, everything was fix.
Hai, could u possible post me a tutorial on how to do those thing via odin? Coz i usually only do it via cwm. Thanks

Did you try to flash a recovery only ?
Maybe your firmware/system is not corrupted and then you could just reflash a clean rom ?
In Odin, Select AP and load your recovery.tar
I am having the very same issue. The difference is that it's happening with Spotify, Xposed and Relay for Reddit. So yeah it's been much worse for me. I will try to flash stock rom + reinstall another recovery and see if it fixes. By the way, I got a couple of questions:
1 - Does the country that I select when downloading the stock ROM matters?
2 - Which Recovery can you guys recommend? There's a bunch here but not sure if all them are worthy
Okay so I flashed an Indian stock ROM (I'm not indian nor live in the country), then I wiped all data, so I could boot. This is the default procedure to revert back to a Stock ROM.
After that, I noticed the Wifi wasn't working, probably due to the Stock rom I've downloaded. Anyway, I installed a custom Recovery (even an updated version of what I used before, then I reinstalled Ressurection Remix, and tried again.
....It didn't work. Relay for Reddit crashes everything, Spotify puts my phone into a bootloot. Same with Xposed. I have no idea what to do anymore. Someone, please help. I really can't afford to buy another phone right now and I really need those apps. Expecially Spotify.

Okay, so I guess there won't be any need for that. I've redownloaded the stock ROM, but this time, I checked my phone Serial Number so I could download the right stock ROM for my phone. Now everything seems to be working again. Spotify and Relay installed without any issue. I will now try to reflash recovery and then another ROM and see if the problem persists.
For those who don't know how to check your Serial number, it's right above your android version, at the "About phone" section on Settings.
I still need advice on which Recovery I should use.
Anyway, thank you guys. I probably would't be able to solve this without your help.
UPDATE: I've installed TWRP 3.1.0.0, and also rooted the phone using it. Still on stock ROM. Everything seems to be still working without problems. I think I'll stick with it for now. Maybe later I'll try to lash a Custom ROM and see if it still works.

Hi,
I'm glad you fixed you're problem. Sticking on Stock ROM is the best thing you can do if you need your phone as every functionnality is checked and working.
I personnaly use TWRP as recovery, its good you got usb, root and everything you need to backup/restore your phone + reset your phone.
Hi amm my G7102 enters bootloop immediately after installing whatsapp application has been tested on lolipop CM and Recuression remix, knowing that it was working fine before that. also note I flashed many times and used stock firmware.
how to fix that issue?
same problem for me... hav u found any fix???
Yup..I was to using cm and RR...But Whatsapp issue didn't came ..But installing other apps such as magisk manager...The problems come.. there is not fix to solve the problem..But if you want to use RR only then use RR Xperia mod ROM..In tht ROM apps installed properly... Or change the rom
I also had this issue, running LineageOS 13 6.0.1 on a Redmi Note 4 SD, and the latest WhatsApp update just crashed all the background apps and after a reboot it just stuck in a bootloop. Luckily I had a somewhat recent TWRP backup, so I recovered it and just removed Whatsapp. I wonder what happened there... I DO had the beta version installed, but I've been using Whatsapp beta without problems for years. :S
Same issue w/ cm12...only after installing the wapp.
Tried recerting by manually downloading to march ver. Still the same.. The moment wapp is installed, phone goes into bootloop. No other option to factory reset..
Any possible clues.. Had someone tried a more old version 2017??
i have same problem using CM12.1. Try this :
if your phone bootloop : uninstall whatsapp from safe mode ( press vol - ) while boot.
uninstall whatsapp from play store.
download whats app apk from apkmirror.com ( i'm using whatsapp 2.18.117 (beta).
and it's work fine now.
Now using CM12.1
I ran into the same problem when I installed greenify on CM12.1. Dunno if there's a fix or not but I figured out how to get out of the bootloop. My theory was, If any app installation caused bootloops, it means the app installation was somehow interrupted and this app is now in a broken state. You just have to boot into TWRP, use TWRP's file manager or aroma file manager to delete all app related files from data/apps or other app related folders. I deleted all Greenify related files and my phone got out of bootloop and booted normally.
Thank you sir, you helped me greatly!
CM 110.0 boot looks
Updates of several apps including Whatsapp are causing my phone to go into boot loop. I had to do a factory reset and sideload of older versions of the apps (where available).
I am running Cyogenmod 11.0 Android 4.4.4 on a Oneplus One.
Does anyone have a solution for this problem? I have been using an older version of Whatsapp but support for that version is going to be cut off by Whatsapp in a few days.
Thanks for any help.
