My Nexus 4's digitizer is broken and part of the screen is not responsive. Now I want to install TWRP custom recovery, but apparently it's only available as a touch version. I've heard that you can control it with a mouse, through a USB OTG cable, but apparently, the Nexus 4 does not support USB OTG? Is it at all possible for me to install TWRP?
Nobody?
Well, I know that using a USB OTG y-adapter + modified kernel, you can enable OTG in your ROM. However you would need to flash a kernel if you did not have one already. The easiest way to install is probably just flashing using ADB. Any reason that you can't?

Does anyone know if its possible to root and install custom roms on the x5 without using a usb cable? My mini usb port is physically broken so I cant use a usb cable to connect to my pc. I've got stock Gingerbread 518 installed currently.
Thanks for any help.
You can't do it without a usb cable.
Hope someone here can help me.
I have rooted and unlocked my Nexus 7, and now I am able to use an USB stick to put my movies/music/books on. Which works great most of the time. But, I do come across a tiny problem. Its impossible to charge my Nexus while using the USB stick, or the other way around.
Do they exist, USB connectors for in my Nexus 7, with 2 USB-plugs, so I can at the same time charge and use my USB stick for movies?
It's possible with an otg y cable and a kernel that allows this mode. HERE a Thread about this function.
Thanks for the answer, but as I am not an expert on Rom/Kernel. I have paranoidandroid 3+ installed with stock kernel. What kernel would be recommended for this to work?
Try M-Kernel a46 if you have an y cable.
I have broken the screen on my Nexus 7 (I slept with with it next to my pillow and must have elbowed/headbutted it during the night)
I have bought an OTG cable and have heard I can still make use of it using this, however I have MultiROm installed (Dual Boot CM10 and Ubuntu) but I cannot get past the Rom select screen!!!
As the touch doesnt work, and I've tried using a plug in USB mouse to navigate MultiROM with no luck!
Any help/suggestions most appreciated!
I had the same problem. searched all over for weeks for a solution. the only way to get past this is to flash clockwork mod recovery through fastboot and give up multiboot since cwm is hardware key driven. at least then youll have a fully flashable tab again, and ull be about to use ur otg cable with a mouse once you have a rom installed. there is a new version of cwm by phil in the development forum and i been using that and it great. hoping he can somehow incorporate mutirom/boot in his recovery. either that or get a new n7. i chose to keep mine with the cracked screen. just cant run multirom/boot right now.
hope this helps some. good luck
Edit: just an fyi, otg cables work in philz recovery. tested my wireless mouse and it works perfect. and its hardware key and touchscreen compatible. just waiting for multi......

Actually there might be another way. As you can boot into the fastboot mode. You can use Nexus Root Toolkit to flash a new android without the multiboot(I don't know about the Nexus7 Toolkit this might work too). to flash a new android without the multiboot(I don't know abou the Nexus7 Toolkit this might work too). As far as I remember mouse with otg works without root.
So... I have searched on Google and on the forums and majority of the people from what I read are using Timur's Kernel - USB Rom for OTG + Charging. I cannot seem to find out if that is all I need to do it. People are saying CM or elemental as well. I just bought a "Micro USB Host OTG Cable + USB power" pon ebay. and I have 2x 128gb USB 3.0 flash drives I want to use as storage. I also have a 14000mAH portable battery bank. I cannot seem to find the installation procedure for this rom/kernel. Is this the right method for what I want to do?
Anyone else having this issue? My Tab 4 7.0 does not recognize any peripheral plugged into it using the OTG cable. I've tried a mouse, keyboard and both a powered external HDD and unpowered usb thumb drive. These peripherals do work with my Note 2 so I know it's not the cable.
Kernel limitation
Hi, I have a SM-T230 and I tried to plug flash drives and HD and nothing works. I think this is a kernel limitation and flash a new kernel will resolve this problem, but I dont know which kernel is compatible.
I think a custom kernel on the 7.0 is impossible, it has what is suspected a combination recovery/kernel, as found by chainfire
