So all you need to do is download snapcamera or camera fv-5 and enable camera api2 bcoz the stock camera not yet got the option to shoot RAW but the API2 is there.

Sorry to piss on your parade but its a base feature of the OS so all you have done is installed an app that can work with the API already in Android. Wake me up when Samsung enables it directly in their own camera app so we can make full use of the Hardware as intended and properly calibrated to the sensor.

I think you got some misunderstanding concept here. It is not a must bcoz Lollipop supports full(api2), limited(api2) and legacy mode(api1). Our 5.0.2 currently is running on limited without RAW function. Some other phones like Note4, Sony Z3 probably is still running with old driver mode.

There are examples where a third-party camera app produces much better quality than Samsung's own app. Like this, this and this on the Note 4.

So better get a camera even though the phone may be able to produce decent photos?
Is it not the point with a converged device like a smartphone that you don't need to carry all those extra things?

What's the old adage? "The best camera is the one you have with you."
No one should expect DSLR quality photos from their smartphone (yet), but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the new RAW capture abilities. Sometimes I'm out with friends or driving somewhere and I catch a nice sunset or a perfect cityscape shot. I wasn't out with the intent to shoot so I don't have my camera with me. Well guess what—I can still get a (potentially) nice shot now, because my phone can capture RAW images for me to tinker with later.

Of course not. It's foolish when smartphones are compared with DLSRs. Even my ancient Canon 300D with all of its 6 megapixels still performs better than my new Galaxy S6. But that's not the point. I will not always carrying that bulky DLSR with me but I always carry my phone.

Sure but who cares? DSLR is used to shoot somethings you prepared and planned for a long time while phone camera is for point and shoot purpose.
I don't see why they can't be both benefit by RAW. Why only DSLR is allow to shoot RAW? Because you think I want to transform my S6 to DSLR via RAW? Are you kidding me?

Do people know that photography is an art and people still use pinhole cameras to get shots and people still use an old dslr with 5 mp to sell work ?
However if you don't understand the passion in photography I can understand your point.

Changing the camera's exposure/shutter speed, is it possible?

I really enjoy long exposure photography, and just recently my DSLR clonked out so I'm sadly just left with my S5 to fill my photography needs haha.
Is there any app that allows me to keep the shutter open for a longer period of time? for taking pictures of passing cars and creating the line of light effects.
In fact!
I just found an app called "LenX" and it seems to do the job pretty perfectly.
Has anyone else tried this app?

Camera quality

Hi everyone, I've been reading around a bit about the Z2 camera and I'm finding some very conflicting opinions. GSMarena did a camera shootout not too long ago for which I'm pretty sure the Z2 came last or at least did horribly. (http://www.gsmarena.com/camera_shootout-review-1104.php) What makes this interesting is that DXOmark (http://www.dxomark.com/Phones/Sony-...ed-model-takes-first-place-in-Mobile-rankings) did a review on the Z2 camera and it scored quite highly. Am I missing something here? I don't think the stills are amazing to be honest and I mostly use superior auto. Is superior auto just garbage?
Camera has been improved with the new 4.4.4 Android update.Second of all,yes - Superior Auto is complete crap to be honest. The real deal is shooting in Manual Mode.So you need to play with the camera options abit to achieve the shot you want to see.Apart of that i don't beleave that the scores from dxomark are true.Sony has a crappy software (we all know that),so if u have time to shoot something - do it on manual. You will be surprised with the results.Use superior when u need to take a fast shot only.

Exposure
ISO
Metering
White balance
Anything else you dont understand

Metering: Spot or multi
2MP size
Apropriate exposure and white balance

Sony only pretends to allow other apps to take control of for example ISO (FV-5 Camera comes up in my mind in particular), but doesn't do so. The onyl camera, which really can use manual settings like ISO from user is crappy Sony Camera app unfortunately. We should all pray for Sony not screwing up 5.0 update with all it' new camera APIs being open.
So it seems to be unanimous that superior auto is crap, I'll start using manual then from now on
Thanks guys!

Huawei mate s or p8 camera port

hey I wondering if it is possible to port the good camera from Huawei mate s or Huawei p8 , even honor 7 . they are the same with lot of good functions. well nexus 6p is a Huawei device too, do u think it is possible ?
It likely uses the EMUI framework so I doubt it. The Google camera app is great and there are other options on the play store if you don't like the stock one

Its a Nexus (AOSP based)not a bloated EMUI phone. That's why it doesnt have those bloated features, nor does it need them. I never take 'selfies' or even use the FFC so it's not important to have for me. You have to remember that this is a Nexus not a skinned UI phone so it only has the bare minimum in terms of software features. If it had Huaweis normal UI it would be slower and the phone would be ruined.

None of that is really required on a phone. The stock camera app works great, and doesn't clutter things up with necessary features. I use my DSLR frequently in manual mode which serves a purpose for a real camera; phones don't need manual adjustments especially not the 6P. Every picture I've taken has come out perfectly the first time I took it. I don't need to play with settings like I did on my LG G3, Nexus 6, or S5.

I don't know about you but I really miss the HTC camera app. Editing the photos in real time using the MF, SP, and ISO can give you the image your looking for. Nevertheless, even on auto setting on FV-5 it takes better photos then the stock camera app on the 6p. For me it always seems to be over exposed and washed out.

New way to take great photos with absurde quality (.PNG)

Hey everyone.
Today I searched in store some kind of camera app with macro focus feature (too bad Sony Camera lacks this.)
So I came across Camera FV-5. Nice interface, but still a Sony UI fan. Anyway, besides the macro focus, under Settings I found the option to save pictures as .PNG.
I knew it has a better compression, almost lossless, compared to the common and easy-to-process .JPEG, so I took one photo outside (ISO 50, AutoFocus, a bit lowered exposure) and one indoor (without flash, yellow/orange 60W lightbulb as source of light in the room, same settings as above.)
I was pretty impressed by the quality. It takes some time to process the image fully, Album firstly doesn't even recognize the photo as existent. Afterwards, it takes ages to load the cache when double-tap zoom.
Anyway, see how nice, crisp and clear photos our phones can take - with absolute no post-editing.
Taken with Z3 Compact with Cyberian Camera MOD.
BTW, the files are huge. One is 21.7 MB and the other over 25. That means 1 pixel is over 1 byte. Cool.

Wow - that shot of the candy bar is VERY impressive. Too bad the file size is so ridiculously large. Can you show us the same picture taken using the Sony Superior Auto Mode (8MP)?

I've attached 8MP and 20 MP versions, Superior Auto Mode.
And thanks to Cyberian MOD, I'm lucky to have macro auto-scene on 20MP also.
Also, massive improvement in quality overall, the Z5 Camera libs really work great.
Now that I can see them side by side, it still appears that the Sony camera app reduces noise better than the 3rd party app. I had a similar experience in a comparison thread I created a while back as well.

camera configuration on this phone could risult in insane quality:
I had nexus 5 and I made photos of much better quality than dslr, really. That's why I'm still using that phone. how?
https://github.com/PkmX/lcamera
this simple app let you shot an INSTANT burst of 20 RAW shots in BRACKETING, which merged in camera raw results in perfect photos even in extreme low light. So 20 raw shots + instant burst + bracketing.
I'd like to have the same function on Op5 (maybe more than 20shots per burst?), but (this is important) for both sensors at the same time.
Optical zoom is only 1,5x so I ensure that if we merge in photoshop a bracketing burst of both sensor we'll obtain the quality of professional expensive camera.
I can attach some examples of what Nexus5 reaches with this function if you want, but who's expert in camera raw hdr editing understands the insane result reachable
edit: i tried the app and it works! with our 16mp resolution, so it is fittable to any phone. the only problem remains that raw shots acquired with non op-camera apps are kind of blurred-violet
+1

ROFL, I'm an enthusiast photographer and shoot with a Nikon D3 and I laughed my a$$ off reading that. The OP is delusional. There just is no way you'll out do a DSLR with a camera phone if you have any clue on what you're doing with the camera. Another enthusiast here (D800) and I am willing to be more charitable. In good daylight a cell phone camera will produce images that are more or less on par with a mid-low end dslr, at least in terms of basic technical things such as noise, acuity. I do agree that in lousy light all bets are off, and this is what the OP implied.

In good light they will be close on the camera maybe at 100% on a phone screen. You put that baby on a PC monitor and start pixel peeping and really scrutinize, it won't be close
