The new LG G4 Pro is coming this october
The specs are:
Screen: 5.8" 1440x2560
SoC: Snapdragon 820
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 32/64GB
Camera: 27MP
Case: Metal
Do you think the G4 was premature and do you feel like LG ripped you off.

Jury is still out, but an upgrade less than six months after debuting......that's not going to sit well with a LOT of people.
No I don't. It's good to have options and price wise the G4 is well worth it. Its like the S6 line up or the iPhones. They all have different versions of the same device so why not LG G4?

And its still just a rumor, both the availability of the phone and those specs you posted.
There is no guarantee it's a global release. It's a bigger phone so doesn't really interest me going away from my G4. I think 5.5 is the perfect size for a screen.
5.5" screen is as big as I'll go with a phone so I'm content with the G4, if anything I could always use my Jump if I wanted to get this phone.
Reasons I'm not bothered:
1) Only rumours, so who really knows
2) The G4 is still a fantastic phone
3) The G4 is a particularly fantastic phone for the PRICE (which is easily £100-200 cheaper than almost all current rivals)
4) The G4 Pro will be super expensive. I don't pay stupid money for phones out of principal, so I'd probably sit it out anyway.
Go for G4 Pro "only' if you need bigger screen or fablet. Otherwise, G4 5.5" is perfect for use.
All rumors 5.8 btw is way to big ! 5.5 is really the max to handle with one hand .

It's wayyyy to big! G4 is pushing the size already. I won't do any bigger! G4 is all good in the hood.
depends on the price they release the G4 Pro at, and the size too. the increased size will be a limitation for some. I've had the g2, g3 and now the g4, and even though the g4 is only marginally larger than the g3, it was noticeable to me. I'm not sure I want a Nexus 6 sized phone. Plus I can jump in Jan 16 if it's worth it.
I think it is a sealed unit. No thanks
Doesn't bother me. I basically see it as the Galaxy S and Note line situation. First half of the year is reserved for the flagship with a smaller screen and later in the year the bigger device gets released with an obvious spec bump.
Who cares. If we bought phones based on what comes out in 6 months then we would never pull the trigger.

You might be glad to have this phone. According to that specs it won't be anywhere close to $600 range. I'm guessing more like $800 - $1000. And did Qualcomm announce snapdragon 820? I know they announced SD810 revison 2 or something.

That device is already well into tablet territory. I'll stick with my LG G4. Owning an LG G4 Pro would not justify me owning a Nexus 7.
I can barely handle the G4 5.5" one handed. The G2 was really the sweet spot. If they designed the G2 similar to the G4, with a curved back/screen, I could probably do 5.3 or 5.4 comfortably. 5.5 is just a hair outside of my comfort zone but is manageable.

This really cannot be emphasized enough. Remember how the first alleged G4/G4 Note leak from late March by that T-Mobile employee actually turned out to be the mid-range Stylo? October is a long way away and nobody gets it correct this early.
As for my thoughts:
The G4 is already borderline in terms of comfortably fitting in my pocket. It already doesn't fit the cupholder of one of my cars and barely fits in the cupholder of the other.
G4 : G4 Pro :: Galaxy S6 : Galaxy Note 5
I needed a new phone 3-6 months ago.
If you keep waiting for something better to come out, you'll never buy anything.
I heavily considered the Nexus 6 as it is the only BL unlocked phone on VZW. In the end though, it was just to big to carry in a pocket for me.

I know it's early folks, but i did some searches on LG G4 just to see what came up, and a few articles I came across are saying "this is what you can see in the LG G4. Of coarse they are just rumors, but this would be one powerhouse of a device.
64-Bit Qualcomm Snapdragon Chip (808)
Dual Channel RAM Scaling To 4GB (2×32 Bit-LPDDR3)
2 Inch Ultra Pixel Camera Sensor With OIS (21 Mega Pixel)
4K Video Recording At 60 FPS
4600mAH Battery (New Technology)
5.7 inch UHD IPS Panel 3840x2160 (772 PPI)
Android 5.0
Bigger Rear Power Button Acts As A Touchpad
Front Facing 2 Watt Stereo Speakers
I'll tell your this, some specs will get nerfed and rumors will blow things up. I always thought the g3 will have an 805 snapdragon.
There is probably *some* truth to this. I heard that its common for manufactures to always work ahead like that. I read an article from an LG rep who was talking about the designing of the LG G3 while the G2 was being released. Basically as soon as the user reports start coming in on what people liked and didn't like about the G2 they got right on development for the G3.
I think car companies are they same way. If you were to go to a dealership today and buy a 2014.5 or 2015 model, they are probably already working on the 2016/17.
My guess is that this is because It takes awhile to manufacture and build up an inventory before a release. And rather than sit on their butts they get working on the next project.
I could of told you this as soon as the specs for the G3 were confirmed.
As soon as the Note 4 comes out, Note 5 rumors will be .1 bigger screen, bigger battery, 815 snapdragon, 4gb of ram, 20mp camera, Android 5.1 and so on...

yeah, i am experimenting with messing with roms. hopefully i can contribute to the g3's development in some way.
As others have said, of course they are working on it and of course it will be better spec'ed. I think though I can honestly say I don't care, I gave my g2 to my daughter months ago while I played around with other phones waiting for the g3 and really, for my uses the g2 is just fine. It feels like a better device in day to day uses compared to my g3 and ROM support naturally is better. I think I am finally going to just stick with a phone for a while instead of always jumping on the next big thing so to speak. Only reason I would consider swapping phones again for is if android suddenly requires a 64bit cpu or we never get AOSP based builds.

I heard LG G5 will be even more powerful..so surprised !!!
I recently made the switch to Verizon and a contract of 2 years. I still have my family plan with tmobile, just gave my phone to the rents'.
Had to have better coverage for my area, but also realize these phones anymore all in all do generally the same thing. I'll be rocking this g3 for sometime I'd imagine, unless something crazy comes out and if so, sell this one and get the new one. Like old school jump program, lol!
Really though, it's gonna have to be crazy!

I heard the next one will have a 17.3" screen, fold-out keyboard with touchpad, multiple USB ports, gigabit LAN capability, upwards of 2GB graphics, and a 64-bit i7 processor.......oh wait....
So information about the G4 is already out.

"I don't think we are going to be able to sit back and expect people are just going to fawn over the G4, or whatever the name will be, just because they liked the G3. I don't think it works that way anymore."
Finally they get it So will see is that only for marketing or they really mean that.
btw i think that you need few more options for vote. I will not move if they create beast with shi*y battery again. Phone is incredible but cant create good phone if you cant support it with battery.
I actually liked this iteration a lot.
Id only be tempted if they move up to the nexus 6 screen size while shaving off even more of the bezel, especially at top and bottom.
To me, the LG flagships always were spec monsters with thin bezels, however you can alway get through the day on a battery, which is all I need. Its all about habits, I take my charger with me anywhere when I also don my backpack.
For people that want crazy battery life, there is other options (Motorola anyone?), this thing is all about the bezel and the specs, which I dig.
I get really good battery on aosp.. for me a really good screen with better contrast, etc. would tempt me, not going to lie.
I bought my G3 thanks for my friend because he was really happy for his G2, in the past I hadn't got a good experience with LG. Battery and especially motherboard problem but G3 changed my idea. Very nice design and a very good performance, I think my next-gen smartphone will be G4!
Yeah I think I might be getting the g4 just for the 64 bit processor and the many but slight improvements, after that, I think the smartphone has peeked, which is good because we will not be distracted by new phones our features on sub par networks and the many issues they present, android fragmentation in my opinion grew the smartphone industry to what it is now, I wonder what innovations will be made to grant a device flagship, besides a CPU upgrade which is overrated
Actually it's Flex 2.
Those specs better not be for a new G4. If anything they look like the specs for the Flex 2, as said above. I also don't think LG would release a G4 just yet, the G3 was only released fairly recently. If anything I'd say they'd release the new G4 or whatever it will be called in the middle of this year, after they get all the kinks of the Flex 2 worked out. I'd also say that the Flex 2 will be their last FHD (1080p) phone. After that, my guess is they would do a G4 or something with the Snapdragon 808/810/811, 3GB/4GB of RAM (Samsung's making 4GB RAM modules for phones now) your 4k screen, bigger battery, etc.
TL;DR: Probs the specs for the Flex 2, G3 just came out don't think they'd release a G4 just yet.

The G3 was released last May, which means we're only 4 months away from the G4, so it's definitely the right time for leaks and rumours to start appearing.
Hello XDA.
This is a thing that has puzzled me a bit, so first I'll present my own point of view and then I'd really like to hear what you guys think.
You can see pictures of the G4 here http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-G4-leaks-in-all-of-its-glory_id68166
My G2 has served me really well, and honestly it doesn't have to be replaced. It's still very fast and gets the job done. However, after 1 ½ year it gets old - it has never been the most interesting phone design-wise and with the new phones having a much more attractive design you get tempted. Add to that, that the battery isn't what it used to be either. What made me buy it back then, was it's absolutely fantastic internals at an affordable price. And I don't regret purchasing it.
The LG G4 looks great - especially in leather - and the fact that it has MicroSD support and a removable battery means that I won't run short of storage (especially when flashing and keeping backups on the phone) and wiping internal storage is no longer a headache. The camera is supposed to be brilliant, but we'll have to see how it works out in real life. The screen looks promising - rumors say it's using 'Quantum Dot' display which results in better color accuracy and is more battery efficient. All good so far!
But according to the latest rumors, this thing comes with a Snapdragon 808. And mildly put, it doesn't look too well. Sure LG didn't have many options - either go with the overheating 810 or put in a worse 808. Not only is the 808 worse than the 810, it's also worse than the 805 in terms of GPU capabilities and power. It's not much but last year most people considered a Snapdragon 805 the absolute minimum requirement for a phone with a QHD display. We all saw how the LG G3 performed with its QHD display - it wasn't bad, but by no means impressive.
I think that LG should've sticked to the 810 and disable two of the four A57 cores on a kernel level. I'm sure a 4+2 setup is plenty processing power, but the Adreno 430 GPU outperforms the Adreno 418 (found in the Snapdragon 808) by a huge margin. In addition to that, Snapdragon 810 supports DDR4 RAM.
I'm torn, and thinking to wait for the Samsung Note 5 and hope it won't come with a UHD display. What are your thoughts?
The Lg g2 had been my best ✆ for three years. It was gorgeous, it was very fast, it lasted all day.
I wasn't impressed with the G3 but I think the G4 has my name written on it. They've had some time to play with the configuration, I'm sure it will be excellent.
They're going to have to crank up the design next year though. Just saying.

eh i will skip G4 becouse i bought my G2 one year ago and i still need to stay with it for 12 months, but i will probably buy G5 or other 2016 flagship phone
As lg phones are locked down, I'm not gonna buy it. The g2 is great and is still the greatest phone they made. But as a flashaholic and someone who likes modding their phone, an unlocked bootloader is very important to me. I only bought the g2 because it was such great value. It turned out to be such a powerful and fun little beast though with a great community as well. It was lightening in a bottle. But my criteria is a bit more strict now. I'll be sticking with the 1+ for a while
No need. I see no advantage to upgrading because my G2 can do everything I need it to. When I get another phone it'll be a nexus or the Asus Zenphone 2, whichever has the larger community.

With the G2 being a beast phone there's really not enough to convince me why I should upgrade to the G4 besides the Camera, Removable Battery and Expandable Storage. I live perfectly fine without a Removable Battery and Expandable Storage and the G2 has 32GB of Internal Memory and a 3000mAh battery.. so why bother? There's more chance of me getting a 1+ if I was going to upgrade. I have yet to experience a world with an unlocked bootloader.
Yay for capitalism!

This will more than likely happen.
G2 is great with me, but looking for better camera with G4.
FullHD is enough, 2k is not really necessary. More important thing is the battery life - which many people said that 2k display on G3 made the battery worse.
I think like the OP. I have a vs980 but I'm seriously thinking about jumping to T-Mobile. I thought I read last year that LG was going to allow unlocked bootloaders going forward with the G3. Given the fact that the G4 has a Snapdragon processor, an external SD card slot and removable batteries I'm thinking there is a lot of potential for a large dev community (especially since the S6 doesn't offer these things). We'll see.
No. I went back to the g2 from the g3 because I didn't like the size. I would get a g4 mini iff it was 5-5.2 and had a high end processor. As it stands now, the s6 and s6 edge look like more suitable replacements
I'm tired of drama
I'm not going to use LG anymore, LG does not satisfy me.
Having owned a few Android devices, I am getting a feeling that the best way to get android experience is to buy a Nexus device. The hardware and the price are only a part of the equation, although we know Nexus devices normally have a great price-performance relation. What makes Nexus so cool is having less pre-installed bloat or custumizations and it's pretty much guaranteed that for the next three years or so you will be the first in the line to get the android updates. Case in point is the stock ROM situation with the current G2. It gives you a glimpse of what it will be like to use the G4 18 months from now. Even though Lollipop 5.1 has come and gone, and the Nexus devices are now running the latest revision of Android 6.0.x, the G2 is still on 5.0.x. Another great example is my Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablet that I bought only a year ago. (This was Samsung's flagship tablet in 2014). Same story here. Still using 5.0, and I imagine Marshmallow is something like six months away and it will be the final update from Samsung. On the other hand, the ancient Nexus 7 is still getting Marshmallow updates.

Funny thing is I have looked for sometime now for a leather battery cover for the G3. Haven't been able to find one.

According to this review, best camera on a smartphone....
I cant wait for the photo comparisons with the S6. My contract ends on June 10th and the LG G4 looks to be the one! My first priority on my next smartphone is the picture quality. If lg is better, matches or even comes extremely close, I will buy it. Love the idea of the sd card slot and changeable battery. Though, I would get the s6 128gb version, so it all comes down to the quality of the pics....

Nope. G3 weak SoC makes it lag, but new 64bit 808 chip is energy efficient while ultrafast @ the same time, 2 64 bit cores on par with same 64bit 4cores in HTC M9 in most real life use cases. And way cooler. And 64 bit means it will get more dev support in 2 to 3 years to come as ARM v.7 801 will be dumped fast

Here are some camera shots, coming from some of the 50 trial testers of the G4 here in Singapore (I'm NOT one of them.) Take note these have been post-edited slightly, but look amazing nonetheless.

According to this review as I put together, it would be best to find a g3 leather battery cover and pass on the G4. Lot of reading for the bottom line.
Funny thing is I have looked for sometime now for a leather battery cover for the G3. Haven't been able to find one.

exactly my opinion on the G4. Benchmarking is not the end-all and be-all of judging a phone, but it would be priced as high as s6 and i don't see why G4 is going to be preferred.

Take a look at this video...they bench 4 phones. The S6, Sony Z3 (I think), G3 & G4. Funny thing is they started the S6 first and the G4 last, yet the G4 finished 1st. Now the S6 got the highest score, but it seems that something else is going on behind the scenes that the benchmark isn't measuring that allows the G4 to churn through it faster. Maybe better bandwidth.

I would bet money the G4 will be cheaper than the S6, and the options with the G4 are suited for me. Plus I want some leather. Lol
I also agree with your feelings on benchmarks. Most important to me is screen size, battery, sdcard, and camera. This to me are the reason I feel the G4 trumps the S6..
+1
@Sachinfan has been trolling several G4 threads. Don't pay too much attention to him. He wants an S6 anyway. Who cares if it's the same price. The G4 has a bigger screen, a camera that at minimum is the same quality with better features. Expandable memory (for the same money as the S6 with 64 GB you can get the G4 with a leather back and 128 GB card). And it yeah G4 owners won't have to carry around a charger when their phone dies in the afternoon.

I have a S6 Edge and was at the G4 launch so got to use the G4, and I've had the HTC One M9 and about every other phone you care to mention.
All the new flagships are excellent but different and appeal to different people in different ways. Personally I think the S6 Edge is the best until I've spent more time with the G4 to assess it properly. But the S6E is so so expensive that the extra £££s needed for it don't make it good value like the G4, but again that's personal preference.
At the G4 launch I got to test the audio , Bluetooth audio, camera and a bit more. I liked the leather backs and ceramic one in white. I get my G4 unit soon and can't wait to see how well it performs in real life. Despite me owning the S6E, I am not biased. If the G4 is better I will say so, sell my S6E and buy a G4!
I will say the G4 was fabulous to hold in terms of grip and comfort with a leather back!

I know its a G4 thread so sorry for being off topic, but did you get your hands on the regular S6? Is the experience notably less enjoyable than the Edge? You say that your early impressions are that the edge is better than the G4 but is much more expensive. The regular S6 and the G4 will be similarly priced.
So wondering what you think about the regular S6 vs G4 (price being similar)

The regular S6 is ok. I had one 2 weeks prior to getting the Edge. I got the Edge as it looks prettier and more stylish.
The S6 vs G4. Tough one. I really need longer with the G4 to answer that fairly. I had 2 hours hands on with the G4 vs a month with the S6/Edge.
To answer that question really depends on what are your device priorities. Based on my little experience I have the S6 ahead but it's really close and more time with the G4 may change that.
I can't stress how lovely the leather backs look on the G4. But then the glass fronts and backs and edges looks great on the S6.
Tell me what matters eg top 5. I'll rank it now and in a few weeks rank it again.

Yeah, keeping an eye on this as it's a more one-handed friendly size than the 5.5" model. The only concern for me is whether they'll update it to M (or 5.1.1 at the very least).
m only concern is that multi 2 points touch screen, it is not just a smaller screen of its bigger brother.
I'm looking forward to this release. Not really liking all the hype of the devices with 5+ inch screens.

Only thing that sucks is the other specs are smaller too. Someone at work was looking for a smaller phone than 5.5 too.
I think it's overpriced for what you get, I'd rather go moto g 2015.

Moto G only has 1GB RAM/8GB storage for the US$180 model. This has 1.5GB RAM/16GB storage for the same price. Both use a Snapdragon 410.
You have to go up to the US$220 Moto G to get 2GB RAM/16GB storage.

For $40 more you get waterproofing, better build, gorilla glass 3, half a gb more of ram, probably better dev support and Motorola's android skin which is usually very good. Money well spent if you ask me. I wouldn't even consider the $180 moto g, 8gb just isn't enough imo but if I wanted a smaller phone than the 5.5 i3 I'd go moto g for the reasons I mentioned.

Not sure why you think Moto has an android "skin", as it's pretty much stock with the addition of a couple of apps (I have an OG Moto X).
Having said that, some people are very price sensitive and @ US$180, the 4.7 Icon would be the better deal. Also, the 1GB/8GB Moto G is the only version sold in Canada - so it's not as if we have the option of getting the 2GB/16GB version.
US$220 is still a good deal for a new phone, but it's edging into OnePlus One territory on swappa.

Moto uses an android skin however light it may be, it's there. Moto is one of the better companies in this regard as most of their work is done in the background and the end user doesn't even realize it.
I can understand that some may not be able to spend more or just don't want to, that's a personal preference and that's why I said I would rather get the moto g 2015 if I wanted a smaller phone in the same price range rather than the 5.5 i3. As far as the moto g 2gb version not being available in canada, I didn't know that but I honestly wasn't thinking about those abroad when I wrote my comment.
The price for the I3 5.5 is in the opo price range new and I still chose the i3 and zf2 over it. Imho the moto g and the 4.7 i3 appeal more so to people who are looking for smaller phones so that knocks the opo out of contention. Also, at least here in the states I would add the LG g2 to the list, which can be had for $150 and has better specs.
Just returned my Moto G 2/16 gb since I bought the Idol 3 4.7. Had it since the 11th. The Moto G has no NFC or Gyroscope. Cameras are comparable. After taxes the Idol 3 is $50 cheaper. It comes with headphones. Better Speakers, display, cheaper, and without the missing features.

I'm thinking of doing the same with my 1/8gb. My main concern is battery life and I see the 4.7 has smaller battery?

I wouldn't worry about battery life. 4-6 screen on easily and it charges faster than the G especially using quick charger, though it doesn't really support it. I get like 1% a minute.
Also someone from android central forums stated that the idol 3 has the ability to wake up from off using alarm. I verified it and it's awesome. Such an old school feature that no one does anymore.

What didn't you like about the moto g other than the lack of nfc and gyroscope? I'm thinking to get thisor the moto g. My 4gb zf2 is nice, but that dim screen is killing me outside. My other concern is hows the perfomace of the idol3? Feeling any lag? Also not so sure about the multi touch screen. I mean 2 points....come on.

The screen on the Moto G was washed out. Kind of bothered me. Idol 3s screen is better and brighter. No real lag. It is a great well rounded phone especially for the price. As far as multi touch points, I've gotten 5 with this app.
How about the visibility of the idol 4. 7 outside directly under the sun? This is what bothers me the most, I can't see anything outside on my zf2 when is nice and sunny.
I have the 5.5 idol 3 and the screen reaches over 600 nits outside and has excellent contrast. Cannot say about 4.7 model.

So what you're really saying is that you wouldn't buy a US$180 phone? Cool, everyone has different priorities.
So why state that the 4.7 is a worse deal than it's competition at the same price?

Yes, paying more gives people more options - that's the point.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it after you've used it for a few weeks. Any lag/stutter? Does it heat up when navigation is running? Any issues with BT? How's the screen holding up (some phones don't have a very good oleophobic coating)?
